Anyway to reset Sense? - HTC Amaze 4G

Every time I Reboot my phone and Sense loads up a lot of my program icons are not shown (see pic) but occasionally Sense has stopped and rebooted by it's self (this used to happen on the Sensation due to lack off memory) and when this happens all the icons are shown correctly. Is there a program/app to do a software reset for Sense. I know you can do this for Windows 6.5 but can't find anything for android.
cheers.

What do you mean by reset , you could unlock your bootloader
Root
Add CWM
& flash a stock / custom ROM in TWRP / HBOOT

Fantastic, that's just what i needed. (I looked but only under Running, strange it wasn't there!).
I only needed to do a force close. I had a feeling if i cleared data i would lose all my layouts/folders?
cheers.

You would of lost all your layouts / folders good you didn't do that . Enjoy it now .

If you're having a memory shortage on this phone then you're definitely doing something wrong.

4.0.3 ICS stuck on "Installing applications"

Updated my Galaxy S2 from 2.3.6 to 4.0.3 and everything went fine but when i got to installing applications i got to about 80% so i restarted and it went to what i think is 99%-100%, a wiped cache and it reinstall applications but same thing stuck on installating apps.
When you say 'installing apps' do you mean when the phone syncs with your google account and re-installs your apps from the market, or are you trying to manually install them yourself from the market or backups i.e. titanium?

no the screen is black and there is a bar thats full and a text above that says installing applications the phone is in "desktop" but its above so i cant use the phone, it was first improving apps (318) and then this.
Its all a part of updating the phone to ICS
Ah sorry yes I remember that bit now when I upgraded. Didn't have any problems for me, Maybe a full wipe of everything including the cache in CWM before flashing again might help. Besides that there's not much more I could really suggest. I'm sure there's someone here a bit more advanced that could help your problem.

Is the version from samfirmware that I'm using along with cfroot with no problems. Make sure to do all the wipes (FR, Cache, Dalvik Cache). It worked for me the first time. Also, it's an awesome stock rom.

i was stuped not to write it all down so i dont know versions beside KL1 when i was picking firmware file, a really dont want to wipe everything cause i lose all my data etc, a did a backup with cwm manager on 2.3.6 but i dont know if i can use that when i have 4.0.3?
I had a similar issue when i first upgrated to ICS. Stuck on "Installing Applications" screen for a while - but i just left it and eventually it went through ok.
Did you ever resolve your issue?
Hi guys, i have the same error, my phone is stucked at the "Installing Applications" screen. I have contacted samsung trough the chat service at their website but they told me to leave it at the samsung service but i don't want to leave it there for around 30 days. I read that with a hard reset it will go back to work again. My question is: How I do a hard reset with my phone stucked? I don't have root.
Will take time if you were updating , if 15 minutes or more have passed do a data cache wipe from recovery.
And remember what wipe means...

Hi, thanks for your help. I did a wipe cache but it didn't help. Wiped data and now my phone is working again and with ICS. But without my old data.
Hi,
I've just got the same problem, but could solve WITHOUT WIPING. Do the following:
- Restart phone
- on the lock screen, instead of swiping and getting stuck in "installing applications", just drop down notifications
- on notifications menu, tap where it should say "low on disk space". It will open "Applications" from the setting menu.
- Uninstall some apps until you get around "250MB" from the 2GB reserved by the system (250MB was what worked for me, that's the reason of the number; I had lower than 200MB before). I tried to move apps to SD Card to no avail, that's why I uninstalled the apps.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem too.
Tried something similar to mbernstein
I had wave launcher still installed since it was an upgrade and i opened up my file manager with it and deleted around 1 GB backup stuff. Then restarted. It didn't work. Restarted again and then it didn't get stuck at the same place
Hope it helps

Worked for me, but, because I have locked my phone with a pattern, when I unlock it sends me direct to "installing app...", so I had to run the Task manager and from it drop down notifications then follow the rest. Thanks mbernstein!

[GUIDE]CLEAN-SETUP of Eeepad Transformer Prime tf201

This is a guide for tf201 owners of how to setup the Eeepad Asus Transformer Prime from scratch to get a most stable installation of the tf201 and to achieve comparable mass-testing-results based on a totally similar installation of the device. The setup helps people to get as much out of the device as the firmware of Asus offers. It’s by no means a fix for bad & wrong coding or defective hardware but it will resolve any update/ firmware or user induced mess with the os and will givepeople a fresh start for a clean setup.
As the rooting of the device presumably won’t void the guarantee but offers the ability to get much more out of it I decided to root with sparkym3’ root tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588&highlight=root+sparkym3
Currently I was running on firmware .28 (this works for any previous firmware)and this is a guide for the clean-setup of a rooted device.
Make sure to follow every step thoroughly if you need/ want to participate in mass-testings and share results.
Added 120705
Only positive feed back on my guide but the rating is bad, come on guys don't be so stingy, help people identifying a useful thread.
Added 120724
I hope my thread, being viewed over 5100 times, gives you guys an idea about how to treat your device. I am still happy with mine. Had to install 'browser to ram' though. I will update post #3 4v1.01) SETTINGS SETUP: very shortly, hopefully before JB, as then I will have to restart everything again....
1v.1.01) PREREQUISITES:
- Electricity
- Transformer Prime TF201, I recommend rooted so TitaniumBackup can be used
- Asus ac-connector
- Asus usb-cable
Make sure the battery is almost fully loaded.
2v.1.01) CLEANUP unrooted/rooted:
Load the battery first no matter what state your tf201 is in. You have installed a new update, a new rom from the Asus Homepage and or just want a clean start. You have done a backup of all your private data:
(if you are not rooted just skip step 2a2))
2a1v.1.01) Start cleaning your device. You have to get rid of every single app and every stock-update (except for rooted tf201; spare “TitaniumBackup”, and “Superuser") either in the menu “Settings/Apps/All” by going through every app and first of all “Stopping” it, if possible “ClearData” and “ClearCache” and then “Uninstall” it.
2a2v.1.01) (if rooted) clean with TitaniumBackup:
- Open “TitaniumBackup”
- Click on the “BatchBackup/Restore–ALL” Menu in the top right corner of the screen
- Scroll down to the section “Uninstall” and “Un-installAllUserApps”
- Scroll down to the section “ManipulateData” and “ClearCacheForUser&SystemApps”
- Scroll down to the section “ManipulateData” and “WipeDataForUser&SystemApps”
2a3v.1.01) Now you will do a “FactoryDataReset” in the menu “Settings/Backup&Reset". Don’t use the inbuilt “Google Backup&Restore” function as you want to redo everything from scratch. Just push the “Reset” button, put in your credentials, if you are prompted, and “Confirm”:
“EraseEverything”
The tf201 restarts twice now and the android-clown starts digesting the mess it is deleting and organising.
On my device this takes approx. 2 min. and the reboot takes another 2 min. Then you can start to initiate you Transformer again:
3v.1.01) INITIALISATION:
a) choose your country and push “Start”
b) choose your keyboard language /Input method and push “Next”
c) connect to your network and push “Next”
d) set date and time (choose “Timezone”, “AutomaticDate&Time” set “ON”) and push “Next”
e) sign into your Google-account
f) don’t join “Google+”, push “NotNow”
g) untick the 2 settings in “BackupAndRestore” and push “Next”
h) tick the 2 settings in “UseGoogleLocation” and push “Next”
i) push “Finish” and the Initialisation has completed
Now you see the all new os on your device. But it still has some old data fragments in use and
k) by pushing a pin in the reset-pinhole next to the microsd-card slot of the tf201 for more than 30 seconds you will delete old information which is kept back until the residual energy has emerged from the transistors of the mainboard.
The device reboots and you do another two reboots. Now your tf201 is as shiny as it can get and ready to eat mud again.
Sorry people: Forgot to mention that you should now also wipe your interior sdcard. lAt least all the data which has been put there by some app and isn't part of your precious digital collection. We want every app, stock or downloaded, to have a clean setup with no old data.
4v1.01) SETTINGS SETUP:
(This part hopefully gets structured when I go through the menu ...)
I now will check and define the stock settings point by point but out of curiosity I just went into the menu for a first glimpse:
"Settings/Wifi/Advanced(menu in the right top corner)/KeepWi-fiOnDuringSleep" is set on "Always" and yes, the battery-reading is confirming this too ("Settings/Battery" tap on the diagramm and you see the timeline of GPS/Wi-Fi/Awake/ScreenOn//Charging). Okay, I will change the Wi-Fi to "Never" and observe it .(previous setup has learned me Asus fixed this setting)..to be continued
5v1.02) NOTE:
You can do a backup of your device first so you always have the clean basis handy if needed. This guide is work in progress and I hope I get some additional information into it in time.
After having followed my guide twice and done every step as described my root was still there both times. But the previously not uninstalled 2 applications were gone.. So the next thing I will do, is; install "Superuser", “TitaniumBackup” and “RootExplorer”. Then I will do my backup.
Depending on what basis you have started setting up your prime you can swap certain steps to still experience the tf201 at its “best”. Different apps may set you back to deleting everything manually and following this guide.
This guide is set up from my experience with four pieces of the Asus tf201 species and the many hours I spent in this forum as well as on the phone with technicians of an Asus repaircenter. I put up my thread how it is convenient to me and I hope the xda-old-timers show their goodwill towards noobs like me and won’t kill it as well.
Hopefully its helpful to some of you gals and guys and you have years of fun with your chopping-boards.
6v1.01) TRHEADHISTORY:

v.1.01 uploaded

...........
After having followed my guide twice and done every step as described my root was gone both times. And the previously not uninstalled 2 applications were gone as well. So the next thing I will do, is; reroot the device with sparkym3’ root tool (see op) and install “TitaniumBackup” and “RootExplorer”. Then I will do my backup.

7v1.01) FAQ:
Q: How is this different from doing a factory reset? Why manually delete everything 1st? [email protected]
A: My experience (was on a previous build though) I still had apps like "superuser" showing up in the applist after a factory reset only. The "FactoryReset" needs to be prepared also! Actually before uninstalling you should turn off as many of the running processes in "Settings/Apps/Running"(push "ShowCachedProcesses" in the top right corner) and running services in "Settings/Apps/Running"(push "ShowCachedServices" in the top right corner) as you can without corrupting the preparation of the "FactoryReset". Then you will be able to delete even more app data and cache of stock apps. But I will leave it out for the moment and hope I won't stumble over this.
thanks for the tutorial.

That's because factory reset formats /data and /cache but does not touch /system. Easy way to fix that is just delete busybox, su and superuser.apk before factory resetting. Much faster than the cleanup section of your guide imo.
anyone with screen flicker/artifacts/audio skipping issue tried step by step of this guide, if yes, are those problems gone?

I was reading in another thread the suggestion to wipe the data or factory reset, and then install the latest firmware version from the Asus site (which you would have preloaded on an external (? I've also read internal...) sd card). Would that take care of the system files in a more efficient way than going through and deleting each of them individually? Also, if the factory reset does wipe everything but system files, is there a need to manually remove non-system apps? Can I even get at the system files if I'm not rooted in order to remove them?

I'd also love to know this- it's my most frustrating problem, and if doing the reset isn't going to help than I might put it off (I'm scared to make something else break on me that would be worse!).

I tried the procedure suggested by the OP (i never wiped after the update, only cold booted a few times yesterday because of the prime that seemed to be alive - see related thread), and now, after an all-day use (all my apps and games reinstalled) i can say that it's more smooth, wifi is a little better and my prime does not move by itself like it's alive ahah. But immediately after finishing the procedure i had persistent screen artifacts on the very left (never had them), but a cold boot solved. And, after that, 2 or 3 very little artifacts during the day, just like before doing this procedure. Never had ANR before and after this procedure.
So i think that there's nothing we can do about screen artifacts: somebody have them, somebody not. Every prime behave in a different way. I hope they can fix this annoying problem (which, incidentally, i never had before .28).

No, you won't lose root, but maybe you'll only have to reinstall superuser app.

You are probably right. I did this guide for non rooted user as well and today I don't see any other solution to get rid of all the old data than by deleting every single one. Suggestions to do a factory reset but not pointing out to prepare this factory reset and finalising it by the pinhole reset seem to be in use for a long time and show different results.
So I took another approach which has been very reliable for me. Thanks for your input

Maybe you try my description step by step and don't forget, very often you have to do a reboot after installing a new app.

My guide starts after you have done the update. Now the trouble starts because even updated some apps still use old values. If you use the .zip-file to update you still should clean up everything after the installation and start with the procedure described from step 2 and not skip anything until you have done the pinhole-reset and two more boots. Now you are fine to start.

You are right about the screenflicker, but i don't agree about root permissions. I didn't lose them after your procedure, i only had to reinstall superuser app to manage them, but i had them. I'm sure because the first thing after finishing the procedure has been reinstalling superuser app and then ezoverclock.
Anyway, after this procedure and the tweaks of the ATP Tweak app, screenflickering is almost fine.
can anyone else who tried this method play a video, be it youtube or any video files and see if there is any random loss of audio during playback for abt 1-2 sec
because i keep having this issue, regardless of the number of times ive rebooted my device

Why don't you just try it yourself instead of keep asking? Your device will be cleaned an probably (hopefully) fixed. I don't have this audio loss problem at all.

[Q] AOKP 4.2.2 (Task650) ROM, missing lockscreen and notifications

I've recently installed AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.2) Task650 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808015) and the basic install seemed to go very well. I came from stock 4.0.4 (rooted) and for the record I'm using Recovery 6.0.3.0 and I did a full wipe including format system, data, cache, dalvik etc. I installed the new gapps after the ROM, and later restored apps using Titanium.
I have a few issues I can't quite sort out though, and I'm not sure if they are JB, Nova or AOKP related so I thought I'd start a new thread.
1) Lockscreen doesn't appear. At all. When I wake the tablet up, it just comes straight back on to the previously used screen. I've checked all the standard Security settings (unlock mode set to slide or pattern, lock on power button, etc) and also the fancier AOKP ones, but whatever I do the lockscreen just does not appear. I've re-cleared cache and dalvik.
2) Notifications are not showing in the Notifications area. I can see the AOKP 'Toggles' icons/tiles for wi-fi, bluetooth, GPS, etc; the clock; the battery level; the wi-fi SSID, etc - but no general Notifications at all (e.g. list of any updated apps, any download statuses, Poweramp mini controls, new emails/facebook messages, Samba active display, etc).
When these various notification are issued, I do see them appear briefly in the lower-right corner in a grey rectangular box which covers the clock/battery area of the status bar (so the notifications do appear to be triggering) but as soon as that brief message disappears, I can't see any of the notifications within the pop-up notifications area where they should be.
Does anyone familiar with JB, AOKP or this particular ROM have any suggestions, as I'm as a loss at the moment?
Andre
Ah, no-one with any ideas of where these issues might be coming from then?
I might have to try another full-wipe install, and if that fails just go back to stock 4.0.4 until (if ever) Samsung releases a JB update for the original 10.1 tab.

I'm not familiar with that rom, but there are a few things you can try.
1. Try posting in the development thread, it might be a known issue that has a quick fix.
2. If you really want to stick with that rom try the full wipe again. But since you already started with one I don't know if it will fix the problems.
3. If you want to stay with jb I would recommend Aopk build 6 by djmatt604. It runs smoothly and the dev is pretty active.
Hope this helps even a little.

I have searched and asked in the dev's thread, but I get the very clear impression that if it works on his hardware and no one else has the same problem, his opinion is that it's 100% up to me to sort it out - which is entirely his prerogative, of course: his ROM, his thread, his rules.
Thanks for the recommendation of another AOPK option (I assume you mean [ROM][P7510][4.2.2][UNOFFICIAL] AOKP Build 6 :: MR1 :: Mar 29 Nightly). I think I might go down that route since, like you, I'm rather dubious that another full-wipe will be any different to the first one.

Yup that's the one. I'd recommend doing a full wipe on the first install to avoid issues. Let me know if you have any other questions.
I went with [ROM][KERNEL][RECOVERY][JB4.2]Infamous AOKP 1.4 (14-Apr-13) in the end, from the same dev you suggested. I added Nova as my launcher and it all works like a charm (well, after I recovered myself from a stupid near-brick when I decided to format the user sdcard in order to clear out any remaining junk from old installs; it cleared out a lot more than I wanted!!!)

Yeah, I usually just wipe data / Factory reset when doing a full wipe and then go in manually and clean out folders that I don't need to clear space. SD maid is a good app for clearing unused space too.

Yeah, I'm normally the same but I thought I'd be nice and thorough for once and get rid of any remaining legacy ICS stuff which some JB updates shove into hidden folders when you upgrade. In hindsight, I shouldn't have bothered.
Still, at least when I finally did get the system recovered enough to install the new ROM, the free space was amazing!

I think the problem may have been with something that Titanium Backup restored from my previous setup, but I never found out what. I had to do a factory reset to clear it in the end (although not a full ROM reinstall).
As I'd already gone that far though, rather than risking re-installing apps again I actually chose another ROM anyway - Infamous (see above) - which I'm very happy with, and the devs there seem much happier to talk to you in general. Just my observation anyway, your experiences could well be quite different of course.

Have you tried without your sd card in it?
Formatting data and system and reinstalling from like bricked state yet?
Maybe your system files are fluffed and since factory reset only leaves you with an untouched system partition of the same you had before factory reset.
There's also to account what apps you may have deleted.
They don't come back after a factory reset either.
I'm not sure from where you started having this happen or if it always happened to you and it's just getting worse
but clean state may be the whistle you need blown.
Time Out,
start from scratch.
Backups? If so What method?
There's a bunch of specifics that need to be addressed in order to help you best.
Start from scratch again is your best solution!

mmm i see
can you tell me what packages do you flashed in the rom (ex. system img or zip)
you said that you rooted your tablet are you using xposed?
After thinking a while in the night i've to mention 2 things:
-is a system issue or
-is an user apps issue
In any of these i have some suggestions to :
For know if is an user apps issue you can try the "safe mode" that disables the user apps, if the screen still freezes is your rom.
If the screen not freezes you can to probe any one of your apps for search the problem (i.e root apps and xposed modules) or as the web says the task killers and/or battery savers, i consider this option because i installed a battery saver and after that my tablet freezes when screen off ( is not at the moment and i don't know when the screen freeze will appear )
And if is a system issue i have some suggestions to you:
-maybe is for some files ( maybe is only my tablet but a bootloop occurs when you overwrite a file that is not made for the rom i.e. a flashable zip made for other devices that improves the sound with modif libs.so or something), other possibility will be that you erase any, some or all .odex file(s) in the case of one or some more .odex files you can extract them from the package, paste them in the same directory where you erase them set the correct permissions (see in the folder the permissions of the other files and set it to the files that you paste in that folder) and reboot your tablet.
-In other options your root is damaged or wrong (i don't believe that but i want to cover the possibilities that comes to my mind). In that case you can try to flash again the rom and root again your device (with the same method or other method), or probe without root if the screen freezes.
There is other option and is change of rom, the dell venue 3830 has three versions of android ( i'm not sure of that i only have see three) two jelly bean (4.2.2 and 4.3) and kitkat (4.4.2) (i'm not count the developer version is 4.3 too ) download any of them and install, you can search them in xda
I'm not responsible for bricked devices it's at your own risk
I have probe these suggestions and my tablet still works but before to probe these suggestions you must have a method for unbrick your tablet if something goes wrong (i.e. CWM backup or rom zip that works in your sd card, in the case for USB logo i've read about something for intel devices (xfstkdownloader i think, i don't have probe it i not have seen this in my tablet .........yet)
If you have questions you can ask this suggestions may work for you
Sorry for my bad english
plz fix this dell
Did anyone fixed this???
Sent from my HTC Explorer A310e using xda app-developers app
I don't know nobody have reply nothing
Other thing that you can do is check your system storage (I'm not talking about the 11 gb of internal storage) The OS has aprox. 1 gb apart of the rest of the storage and with the kk stock rom these storage can only have 20mb free; The JB stock roms have almost 200mb free or more, I think that is the reason of the speed of JB roms and the screen freezing in kk
I have actually a modified kk rom by me (I only deodex it (stock roms comes odexed adding space)) and the system partition is near of the 150mb free
And its faster the storage tock ones so check your system partition
Other causes may be the use of the tablet while charging while playing hard games ( I have one of 7mb and really warms my tablet at the point of make my screen unresponsive) a solution of this is using an external fan
In the worst of cases your display needs to take it to service or warranty (but first un-root )
Exactly....thats the point
I just send my tab to its wrnty service (without root)
And they said they will replace the display+monitor
I didnt get it yet
Hope they can fix this
If u are in warnty
Sent it to dell

i bought my tablet in internet and i received it at the first week of 2015 but i don't know if still is in warranty also i never have to sent something to warranty.
my tablet works only with a bug:when i unplug it from pc tranfer with screen off, the micro sd unmounts itself
BTW i can live with it and with my part-modified rom my tablet is faster even with 1GB of free internal storage and many xposed modules
i hope that your tablet returns without the screen problem
Thats is a small problem....you have
I have some major bugs in my venue
Touch freezes..,..blackscreen,internel heating and lot more
For checking warrenty....you have to go to the dells official site.....if you are rooted....first unroot it ...and sent it to dell's service centre...if you are interested

More of that: my tablet has Cwm recovery so I don't think that only un-root can get back the warranty
Do you install xposed or something related to root?
When dell will give your tablet back?
Will get it in 28
I too installed cwm recovery
But i reflashed the rom to stock rom fullyyy:thumbup: via fastboot

Location of incallui.apk for this device?

I installed the Google dialler after flashing the Google Dialler Support (Framework) (.zip), made it the default dialler (with all permissions) and disabled the stock Dialler through recovery but whenever I make or receive a call, both dialler's {incallui}s show simultaneously, sometime the stock in front and sometimes the Google one and both their notifications also showing. I wanted to disable the stock incallui but can't find it in the priv-app directory(in recovery). Does anyone know how to disable the stock incallui? Any help would be much appreciated...thanks!!

If you're using TWRP, you'll have to mount system to access system files. The option to do this is in the main screen of TWRP: Mount>System. Then you can go to Advanced>File Manager and access system files.

I haven't tried the back up and restore feature and I don't want to as I've got a 64 gig SD formatted as internal and I'm not sure if all my data will be retrievable if I tried formatting and restoring from the back-up.
Okay now can anyone help me with my problem, please!

I'm not looking for the dialler, I've already disabled that...I want to disable the stock incallui (the screen which appears when placing or receiving a call). Also, I don't remember the actual name but the dialler is not named phone.apk. Generally, the incallui is simply placed in an app called incallui.apk but weirdly, this phone doesn't have it making it really frustrating to deal with 2 call screens simultaneously.

This is not because of root. This is due to unlocked bootloader which, I'm guessing, triggers the developer mode for the device. This doesn't affect the functionality of the device so you don't have to worry!
Turns out, the incallui is bundled up with all of the telephony frameworks or whatever and deleting this makes the phone not detect the SIM and lose connectivity. If someone with some knowledge of code and how sh*t works could look at the apk and just remove the incallui part, I'd buy them a beer or two. I've posted the link to it below. Thanks!
