Anyone experiencing random screen brightness?
Every once on a while when I turn the screen on I notice the screen is brighter (kind of washed out looking). If I put the screen to sleep and then turn it back on it goes back to normal. Don't know if it's a defect or what. Just wondering if anyone else had noticed something similar. (Smart Actions are not on so I don't think it's that)

I've had my Razr for about 16 days now. So far, this has happened once. I always use the phone with ambient light sensor off, and brightness set to lowest setting, but one night when I turned I the screen it looked like it was on the highest brightness setting, and the screen had weird colors. The reds had turned to purples, if I remember correctly. I turned the screen off then on, and that seemed to fix the washed out colors, but not the excessive brightness. At some point later that night, the brightness fixed itself without intervention.
yeah I get that too, been getting it probably once a day for the last week or so. I have mine on auto brightness and I can get it sitting in the same chair in the same light conditions a couple of minutes apart from no issue.
Switch on from lockscreen and the brightness is through the roof, hit power button to suspend and its fine when I go to open.

been trying out this rom the past few days even though using sense roms is against my religion (i'll confess later and everything will be fine).
anyway, whenever i take it off of automatic brightness... like say, at night, i turn the brightness all the way down... once the screen goes off and i turn it back on, it's bright as hell again.
oddly, the brightness setting will still show that it's all the way down(even though it's bright as hell), so then i have to slide it up & then back down again.
and then it does the same thing all over again!
am i the only one experiencing this issue? is there a fix for it?
have you given up your booty to jesus?

Never had that problem, but I haven't messed with screen brightness manually on beta8. Last time was Beta7 and it worked just fine. It does seem REAL slow on the brightness level uptake though. Like when you use the camera and it ramps up brightness all the way... it takes it about 30 seconds or so to readjust it.
Just wondering if I'm alone with this issue... when I have auto brightness turned on, it consistently wants the display to be too dark. I shut off auto-brightness and move the slider back and forth, and it appears that auto-brightness never wants the phone over 25% brightness, ever.
When I set manual brightness the phone is plenty bright enough to see, even in direct sunlight. But auto-brightness never seems to leave the screen bright enough. Is this common or does my unit have a faulty light sensor?

Yes, this is a problem with all versions, including international. There is a MOD out on the international side that addresses this issue by setting the minimums to a much higher brightness. Unfortunately, we have yet to get any devs on our side to begin porting these over. Hopefully soon...

I actually don't experience this at all on my phone. At home, I have it set manually to the dimmest it will go. But at work, I will change it to auto brightness, and when moving from indoors to outdoors I can see the screen just fine (even with sunglasses on).

Seems to have fixed all my auto-brightness issues. Shame we have to use a third-party app to get auto-brightness to work flawlessly, but it's better than nothing. Plus the Lux app has additional features that I'm glad to have.
i also installed Lux, and set it to have the screen at 40% brightness at 0 Lux (default was 20% IIRC), and the screen has been at the correct brightness since.
My guess would be that the default settings in Lux are fine for most people. I do like my screen to be bright most of the time, hence the higher custom setting I put into Lux.

i don't know about all of you, but my screen is the biggest drain on my battery. my guess is the low auto settings is an effort to preserve battery life.
like someone said earlier, i never have an issue seeing the screen inside. only in direct sunlight does it make a noticeable difference. fortunately i have an auto-brightness toggle widget thanks to hd widgets
Not only do I have light bleed but I'm also seeing screen flicker. I really want to keep this device but I'm getting sick of this...
The first thing I noticed when I turned on the device was the light bleed. Its pretty bad, and I normally don't mind those types of things. No flicker here though.

I noticed if I turn up the brightness it goes away.
I don't have light bleed, but I do see flicker if the screen brightness is turned down. It's reminiscent of the original Nexus 7, which had the exact same problem.
I have the flickering too...really annoying. I was hoping that this would replace my iPad but it's not looking good. Although lollipop is pretty amazing so far.
Does it only happen you adjust the brightness? If so, i dont think its a big deal as long as it doesnt happen during actual usage.
I noticed the flicker issue when I first was using it. I then turned off auto brightness from the main settings and started using Lux Auto Brightness and the issue has been resolved as far as I can see. I suspect this is an issue with the Lollipop build's brightness manager and not a hardware issue from the backlight. Also as far as bleed goes, there is apparent bleed when viewing the screen at an angle and looking directly at the edge, however I have found that it is a complete non issue in normal use (even in a fully dark room), which stands in stark contrast to my Nexus 10 which has noticeable edge bleed when viewed straight on.

This issue seems to be related to auto brightness/adaptive brightness: The same brightness level set manually doesn't flicker.
Seems to be a software issue to me, and it seems highly likely every Nexus 9 flickers with auto brightness on (and at low relative brightness setting) in low light environments.

But, my screen flickers when I am on a constant brightness level. But, it doesn't show up as much when the screen is on at full brightness, just when the screen is at half brightness or just below half.

I guess we aren't experiencing the same issue, then: My screen only flickers with adaptive brightness enabled in low light conditions, seems like it is constantly readjusting the screen between two brightness values.
My Nexus 9 doesn't flicker at any constant brightness setting.
Yep, my Nexus 9 flickers as well.
About 15-20% brightness (fixed). It doesn't flicker all the time and it goes away if you change the brightness level or even by itself if you change the app you are using.
This leads me to believe this might be a software issue (N7/2013 had this too when it came out).
I have the AT&T H900 V10 and I can't figure out how to keep the second screen from dimming when the main screen is off. It's so dim that I can't see it unless it's directory in front of my face, and no buttons seem to brighten it without during the main screen on. Is this something that can be changed? I'm not worried about battery life since it stays plugged in 99% of the time.

So far there doesnt seem to be any way to control this, other than covering the light sensor until the second screen goes off, then letting it come back on at greater brightness for 3 seconds or so until it dims again. Maybe LG is trying to make sure it doesn't drain battery but maybe they will adjust it with updates or give us control over it.
It pretty much makes the second screen useless as I can't see any notification without turning on the main screen.... and no LED light so this kind of makes me want to rage.
It is quite bright, especially at night. Is there a way to control its brightness?
My Xperia 1 III is rooted if that's needed.

That's weird. My xqbc62-v notification LED is dim and has a narrow viewing angle. I can only see it at night.
I think there are multiple hardware revisions of this phone. My first phone was purple and crashed constantly. I returned it and bought a new one later. It's purple, but so dark that it looks back except under direct sun.
I see what you mean now. The BC62 notification LED used to track ambient light and it was always relatively dim. Starting with the Android 12 update, it's max brightness all the time. It's annoying at night.
Yep I can confirm that the LED is much brighter after A12 update. I charge the phone wirelessly at night beside my bed so putting it face-down is not an option. ;-)
What I have found to work is completely unscientific but works every time for me. I use a cable so not sure if it will do the same for wireless. After I plug it in I too notice that the LED is too bright. So I wait a minute or more and unlock the phone with my fingerprint (while the charging cable is still plugged in) and then double tap the screen to relock the phone. I use Nova Prime as my launcher which allows me to double tap to lock. Usually doing this makes the LED dim down considerably. Sometimes I have to do it 2 or 3 times but it always ends up working. YMMV
Anyone knowing a 2ay to disable the LED while charging? Maybe via adb command?
