I have to say I was a little hesitant picking up my EVO-3D on Friday, with all the so so reviews, was worried it would not live up to the hype. And I LOVED my rooted EVO 4G with Myn's ROM.
When I first got the 3VO, I was like yeah it's cool, but nothing super special over my EVO 4G. Getting used to the taller and narrower size was weird, I liked the wider feel of the 4G. Fast forward a few days, and now i can say for sure, the 3VO is a much better phone, feels very high quality, and every part of it is just a better design over the 4G, way more refined, solid build quality, and Sense 3.0 rocks.
I have to say this is HTC's best product out right now ? The spec's alone are top notch, Sense 3.0 is king, battery life is much improved, screen resolution and colors are great. I can't think of any better HTC phone out, or due out until next year ?
Best htc product period.....tablet or phone....best specs best features best performance...but with all android phones, its supremacy will be short lived...damn you technology, you move too damn fast.
I mean there really isnt anything else they offer at this point other than the old Evo and the Epic so thats pretty much a given.
They'll have the Photon and Samsung 2....but regardless of how they sell this'll be they're flagship for 2011.
Now the Nexus4 looks to push Smartphone functionality into another generation so that might change if Sprint gets it.

Nexus-4.0 sounds bad ass. But nobody really knows who will be the manufacturer ? Could be HTC...Samsung...LG...Motorola...
Besides the Nexus-4.0 I don't see any phone beating the EVO-3D until 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S3, or EVO-III.

I was beginnning to think that reading is a thing of the past. Thanks for pointing this out!
Im not worried, just like the OG evo, the 3VO will be on top till the next one replaces it since it has pretty futureproofing specs, a strong following / community and best support. There may be devices that will be faster or have more memory o better specs but it will fade into the background like the Epic did imo

If I'm not mistaken the next Nexus is a 3, not a 4.
If I'm not mistaken the LG G2x and SGS2 are a 'tad' faster. And all three are so fast we'll probably not notice a major difference. Definitely slight difference from techies. And it's a bit sad were using a Cortex A8 and not a A9. As stated neither are HTC.
They also don't have 3d and Sense 3.0. And for now Samsung hasn't had a major Dev Community, yes I do know SGS2 was sent to a CM dev. The 3vo has the Evo community + HTC community to boot. It's got a nice dual core and some other cool features. It'll be a great high-end phone. It's definitely Sprint Flagship phone. The Photon and SGS2Within may have somewhat of a shot, but I don't expect it too. And the Epic2 or Epic+ is dead in the water in comparison to the 3vo.
HTC Flagship will most likely be the 3VO. Except maybe the [Kingdom I think].
Title says it all... Now that we have had some time to use the Photon for a while, how are you getting along? I bought one over the Evo 3D and I am happier with my choice now than when I got it August 4th. I have tried the Evo 3D, as I picked one up on CL for a song and after giving it a full week to see if I liked Sense 3.0 / 3D goodness, I could not wait to get back to the Photon! I realise there are lots more options for customization on other phones, but the Photon is the 1st Android phone I am happy with after a simple root and wifi tether. This phone is FAST, has ample storage, and a feature set that is not equaled on any other smartphone from Sprint. Webtop is a great tool for being on the go, and getting some browsing done. The tegra 2 has a great selection of 3d games available. The business features this phone includes are also a godsend. Finally I can have conference calls dail automatically, and sign me in afterwards! Then we have the radios, which are without equal on any CDMA device I have used! Call quality is superb, and the speaker is loud enough for a boardroom full of people. The camera is much better than the Evo 3D as well, both for stills and video. The screen is fantastic, bright and easily viewable in direct sunlight. I don't think I have ever been so happy with an Android phone as I am with this one. What do you all think? TIA...
Oh no another thread on the Photon being great or crap
Anyways I can truly say I love the Photon to bitz beats all my other devices hands down and I've had the best, seven handsets this year alone which I can't be arsed to list again. Sound and call quality are great, looks great, feels great, root, unlocked bootloader. Just a fantastic phone

this but I'm not unlocked yet ... waiting for working CM7 first
I'm fine with it, although I don't need the reassurance from other people that many here seem to require.
it's way better than the evo 3d, that's for sure. i still liked my evo 4g better though. mainly cause of CM7 though. i think if the photon had CM7 it'd be better than the evo 4g, the evo 4g only winning with screen quality.
The only thing going for the evo3d is the development, adreno 220 and the qHD screen, photon IMHO is a higher quality phone all around, its just lacking in the screen resolution. If the photon had the evo3d qHD screen it would be the perfect phone.
I'm not sure how someone else feels about your phone choice has anything to do with this topic, but moving on. The adreno 220 is certainly more powerful than geforce in the tegra 2, but the cortex a9 seems to make up for it somewhat. The phone certainly doesn't feel slow in any way. You know how it is, once the "perfect" phone comes out, something better will surely be on the horizon.

Love the Photon, but loved the EVO 3D before that and the Evo 4G before that. And will love whatever's next. No phone is perfect, though of course by definition since I've kept it, I think the Photon is the closest so far. Some people do seem to have their self-esteem directly tied to whether you agree that you love their phone and that your different phone is clearly inferior. Don't think that the OP has that issue. Just following the previous poster's tangent....
But, back on topic ....
I quite like the Photon's screen outdoors and like that it has a SIM card slot. It was quite nice to slap a cheap Asian SIM card in my old (1 year ago LOL!) Touch Pro 2 and call the US for $0.06/minute instead of $2.99/minute. One of the reasons I bought the Photon, and hope that I am not wowed by the new Samsung (not likely, I think). And Photon so far has great radios - my HTC phones all struggled in my home, a bit of a Sprint dead spot.

Yeah - no phone is ever perfect, or remains the newest/best for very long. But, I'm quite happy with the Photon - no complaints or issues. Love the screen, radios and form factor (not just a rectangular slab). Feel like we'll continue to get good updates from Moto.

We all have different eyes and corresponding perceptual differences. I was prepared to hate the Pentile display based on reviews - but when I went in the sprint store, was quite surprised to find that my eyes definitely prefer the Photon over my old (now wife's new) EVO 3d. To my eyes, the Photon is whiter, brighter, crisper and better in sunlight that the 3D.
Also, the 3d and Photon are the first phones where I feel I can just happily live with a rooted stock ROM. So community ROM development not important to me anymore. Just want the phone vendor to push Android fixes and updates to me; feel Moto will be #1, HTC #2, Samsung #3.
love the photon
just like a lot of you guys i love the photon, but also loved the htc evo 3d and before that the htc evo 3g....they all are great phones....the main reason i like the photon is that it has the capablities of the webtop feature and also has a lot more device orrientied accesseries which make the phone even better.....
Im reasonably happy with my photon. It for the most part gets the job done. Am annoyed with it rebooting a few times a day. Also I don't have the same feeling about it as I had when I had my nexus one. That phone was great.
Sent from my Photon.
Got this phone last week, actually brought phone back to Sprint to exchange for the Epic 4g Touch then decided not to. Reasons are:
1. Even tho the ET has a bigger screen, the resolution blows even with the new amoled. The amoled makes things more 'vibrant' but it overdoes it. The pinks look red and whites look off-white. You can fix this by lowering the vibrance to 1/3 but that still makes it look off. The photon is more lifelike in pictures and color quality.
2. Holding the phones, the ET feels like a toy. Photon feels more like a premium phone.
3. Camera quality is equal.
4.Call quality and speaker quality is better on the photon.
5. ET has a faster processor and smokes the photon in quadrant tests. But in real word applications, they are both similiar speed.

I agree on this one........ET got it right screen size IMHO. Great antenna here though and speaker
Guess I'm one of the insecure one, since this is my first Android phone. But I agree - the MoPho just works. Light years ahead of my Palm Pre, though it has its quirks. If the proximity sensor issue could be fixed, that would be nice. One I use bluetooth to make a call, I have to hit the power button, unlock and then hit the call end button just to end a call.
But in the scheme of things, it's a pretty minor annoyance. I am on my second bad headphone jack, though. Thinking of just going BT for headphones as well at this point.
But I love this phone.
I'm in love with this. Device what's not to like about it? Running blazing steady with great battery life at 1ghz dual core steady 3g and amazingly fast 4g where it's available of corse, and screen size is just right rooted for tethering when on the road couldn't be any happier with a phone I and the the build quality and design is great!!

These kind of threads are useful for people like me who are looking for info on (potentially) their next phone.
I started on Android with a Moto Backflip, which was not a bad phone with Motoblur removed. The idea of a Motorola Android phone with no MotoBlur is interesting. I am actually looking at the US Cellular version of this (the Electrify).
Really wanting to get one next month for sure on my birthday!
I'd have to say I'm very happy. It just works, both my pre and Evo 4g seemed to have issues that forced me to root to compensated. The Photon just seems like a solid device, its smooth and has great battery.
The only down side for me right now is the lack video chat, I'd like the Photon to enjoy the same support HTC has, but I have a feeling that eventually it will all get worked out.
Ultimately its the right phone for me, but the choice is becoming increasingly difficult with Sprints line up.
My Own Opinion
I mainly purchased the phone because I'm going to be traveling to China soon and wanted an international phone. The phone seems fast and I love the amount of internal memory, but I find the interface and screen lacking. It is a personal opinion and other may feel differently. I previously had the evo4g and ran Sprint Lovers, Myn, CM7, and many others. In the end I settled on Synergy. My wife currently uses the phone now. Eveytime I pick up the phone I miss the interface. I like the tabbed notification toggle and really miss the exchange sync with the ability to view all new messages in all folders from one view. I also can tell a big difference in screens.
I do have to admit after giving it some time the screen isn't as noticeable as when you first get it and I understand the reason behind it.
That being said I do like the phone. Battery life seems on par if not better and the phone itself feels much more sturdy. I think starting out HTC spoiled my view on the android interface as well as the ability to unlock. HTC has no "fuse" that I ever read about and seemed simpler.
I haven't unlocked the bootloader yet because I use the 4g and the 3g sucks by my work. As soon as that is done it will be unlocked.

If you miss the HTC Sense UI (and I do a little), consider:
- a launcher like Launcher Pro (free, or Plus $3.50), ADW, Go Launcher; with
- Beautiful Widgets or Fancy Widgets (about $2)
After a bit of research, I just last night bought the first one in each of the 2 lines above for total about $6. I find the stock Android a bit bland myself, and also was a bit spoiled by Sense.
Also - from reading other posts at other forums, there may be different HW revs of the phone floating around. One poster commented on the Photon store display model showing lots of pixelation, but the new out of box one he got did not have it. My store model and one I bought were both great. Maybe you need to swap. And maybe I'm fortunate that my eyes just don't see it - but after reading the Pentile reviews and sample screenshots, I am convinced that they largely fixed the problem in perhaps rev2 of the display/phone.
I've already unrooted mine, but am happy enough with stock (with a few 3rd party addons like mentioned above) that I doubt I'll ever unlock it a flash it. (And I spent a lot of time cooking WinMo ROMs in my own kitchen)
I also miss the EVO 3d's "all emails from all accounts" in one view!

Agreed - I always read forums before buying so that I know what to pay attention to when I actually demo the phone. And again, I discard the top and bottom 30% of the posts and look for posts from people who don't appear to have the need for me to agree with them, and that are not trying to convince me.
I checked out the ET twice this week definitely like the photon more. The photon screen is sharper and a lot brighter, and the photon seems to be more responsive, and has better download speeds.
At this point I don't understand why everyone loves the ET.
Photon has been rock solid for me.

Can't wait although I'm hoping for a 4" to 4.3" screen version. Nokia Ace?
They're really pulling some iPhone like secrecy with the ace, the rumor is a 4 inch amoled though.
People keep saying Nokia is dead and all that jazz. Actually that's just stupid. The latest Nokia meego/symbian/whatever phones kinda suck in terms of internals and software, but they bring some decent build quality to the table. Sure Htc and Samsung don't make bad phones (not even considering LG and Motorola here), but they have their flaws: Htc ones tend to use amazing materials but are generally badly assembled (dust under the screen and such), while Samsung ones are put together very well but i'm not a great fan of plastic, no matter how much "high grade" they call it, plastic will always be/feel CHEAP. I really hope that Nokia steps up the competition with the next WP7 phones, possibly also using up to date internals. If they do that and ICS doesn't improve the situation in the right way, then next year i'll be totally sold.
Trust me, while I love Android I don't go shouting all over XDA how good it is. I respect other opinions but hate them being shoved down my throat.
I am not a fanboy of any os whatsoever, Android just suits me most atm, but I have a feeling wp7 will catch up with especially in regards to synching multiple services and devices.
So please, please, stop trying to convince people wp is Da Best and let people decide for themselves.

Nokia is a very good and trusted brand. I'd love to see them come back. Problem they face is hw. There is no need for octa core tb ram phone to run wp, and while its a good thing, it's not very good for marketing when you compare components with HTC /samsung?.

there's no reason for most computers to run octa-core let alone phone, sadly hardware is android's selling point. I think as long as Nokia continues to put out the most aesthetically pleasing phones out there with the best cameras and outstanding battery life they're known for they'll remain relevant and boost wp7 to new heights.

I simply post my experiences as any user does. I'm certainly not one to post "wp is da best" there's enough of that in androids favor in every "google vs. ..." thread. My experiences and posts are reasonable and people tend to rage because my opinion does not match theirs. This thread is, however, about the only really aesthetically pleasing device I've seen in some time. The thinness and the shape that does resemble an old iPod nano is a refreshing change from Sammy's plasticky thick toy look and HTC's great parts haphazardly tossed together. I just enjoy the physical aspect, all OS matters aside. Even things like the nexus prime just don't look high quality hardware-wise despite internals.

windows 7 phones suck donkey balls. seriously. terrible OS, terrible, software, terrible idea to put that garbage on a phone. if windows 7 phones were the last phones on the planet i would revert to writing letters and sending telegrams because they have a more effective end result.
I'm thinking about doing it. Anyone else make the plunge? What do you think of the incredible vs the 4s?
I haven't but I guess it just depends on what you like or dislike about your operating system and the phone looks.
I've never owned an apple anything much less an Iphone. I will say this though, I do have friends that have Iphones and I watch them power it up, zip right to an app or go right to the phone and start dialing away, seems pretty fast to me. My Dinc is somewhat laggy compared to their speeds of hitting buttons, like waiting for my dialer to come up or say the market to load or other stuff.
Now I realize I got apps I've downloaded etc, but so have they. I'm not pitching a sales for Iphone because I am not an Apple fan however, I personally think the Iphone is a hell of a lot sexier than most any other makers phones available. That aluminum housing is just badass looking.
Also realize this is just my thoughts compared to an OG Dinc, I would imagine the Inc 4g should be a crapload faster than my Dinc....
My gf just got this phone from the iPhone 4 yesterday. She loves it so far and is absolutely amazed how much you can customize. She was a little overwhelmed from everything but that's just because the iPhone had literally nothing to customize. Screen is soo crisp, an phone is fast.

Yes. This phone is a world of difference from the original Incredible. I loved the original Incredible but there was never any question that the iPhone was smoother--just completely impossible to customize without jailbreaking. With the Incredible 4G and Ice Cream Sandwich optimizations, the difference is negligible. So now it's really just a question of whether you want customizability or not, and which UI design you prefer. I think Sense 4 is much more beautiful than iOS, but that's a matter of taste.

Polarimetric, that's good to hear, and what I was hoping to hear myself. One question though, I know I've heard of jailbreaking, and my interpretation of this was the same thing as rooting? If that's the case wouldn't the Iphone peeps have the same level as customizing their Iphones as we do our Androids?
I had a 4s prior. Yes pretty customizable if jailbroken, had nice themes. However I find myself preferring android, because of more options, connectivity, and 4G service, of course on Verizon.

Theoretically, yes. Jailbreaking and rooting are pretty much the same thing (they're both just essentially using an exploit to remove the restrictions placed on the phone by the carrier/manufacturer/OS developer), so iPhones and Android phones in theory should be customizable to the same degree. However, one of the reasons the Android dev community is so much more robust (and thus Android phones are considerably more customizable) is the difference between Google's attitude toward the dev community and Apple's attitude. While Google has largely taken a look-the-other-way approach (the only way in which they've really ever put their foot down is disallowing Google-branded apps from being distributed with custom ROMs, but they've never done anything about the Gapps packages that float around the internet), Apple has devoted hours upon hours of development toward addling or completely getting rid of the iPhone dev community. Although they've been unsuccessful and jailbreaking still exists, Apple's adamant anti-development, closed-source policy has turned many developers toward Android. While almost all Android phones are customizable all the way down to the system level (installing a custom ROM can completely change the user experience), iPhones are mostly just tweakable. An iPhone is always going to be an iPhone. If you like iPhones, that may not be a problem for you, but if you like being part of a community that pretty much guarantees choice, Android will always be the way to go.
im on the verge of switching from my 4s to the inc 4g lte due to the fact that i miss android. this is my 3rd time switching from the iphone to android due to the fact that i miss lte and the community :silly:
My dad just traded in 2 old iphones and got the inc4
i think he will like the switch from crapple to android.
esp once i steal and root his phone,
IMO the only thing this phone needs is an Amoled screen and it would be absolutely perfect. Battery life is excellent even in low signal areas like my home. I really don't have anything to complain about with this phone...and I'm pretty picky. I'm just not a fan of the larger screen phones...battery life suffers tremendously. My wife was playing with it all weekend, she has the iphone 4s and wants the Inc 4G immediately. And she is a die-hard iphone junky. Let's see how she feels when the iphone 5 comes out...hehe.

I don't see how that can be said. I went from a DINC 1 to the iPhone 4S and was amazed with how smooth it is. I miss Android and flashing stuff some, so I'm looking back into it a bit. Just don't understand the statements like this. The thing is stupid fast, takes some amazing pictures, and the battery life has been killer.
Not a fanboy at all, just can respect things. If the DINC 4G LTE came out before the 28th, I'd have snagged one and kept my unlimited. Now I think I'll have to buy phones outright. :crying:
If you have been sticking with iPhone or at least iPod or iPad, I strongly recommend you to move over to Android world. I had iPhone 4S before (although it's not my previous phone), it's dramatic but more fun to discover. iPhone was just too bring for me, and I didn't like jailbreaking because the system got unstable. If you like customizing stuff, I'm pretty sure you would like the phone!

While I agree his statement was childish...
You went from the dinc 1 to the iPhone 4s... That's like going from a tube tv to a 1080 Samsung flat screen. I owned the dinc 1 before but that was like 10 tech years ago...
Comparing the latest incredible 4g to the iphone 4s would be more fair. I am stunned how far android has evolved and HTC Sense becoming an actual benefit rather than a burden.
So far the incredible has a great camera, killer OS, and is smooth as butter. I just wish manufactures really did spend more time coming out with quality 4 inchers.
HTC is the maker. Cmon google! Give them the nexus.

According to the rumor mill, Google is giving everyone the Nexus. http://www.redmondpie.com/google-wi...h-november-to-commemorate-5-years-of-android/
So HTC getting the Nexus? How is that going to work?

If I read that right it says, "Google looks to be going all-out in an attempt to appease consumers in both software and hardware, the latter of which will likely be all provided by Samsung."
I really hope those 5 devices aren't Samsung!

Ooh. Should have read the specific article I linked to before I linked you to it.
That article seems to theorize they'll all be Samsung, but most other articles I've read have said that the 5 incoming Nexus devices will come from all different manufacturers, bringing more diversity to the Nexus phone brand. Here's a better article on the same subject that lines up better with what I wanted to say: http://androidandme.com/2012/05/new...from-different-manufacturers-by-thanksgiving/
So, essentially, if the rumor is true, the major manufacturers (presumably HTC and Samsung, obviously the Google-owned Motorola; the other two depend on who they can get--I'd bet Asus will be one of them) would all contribute a phone to the Nexus brand, making Google's Nexus store kind of like a carrier of its own.
I am down for that!
Considering I'm stuck buying phones at retail I'm in for sure. Very exciting news.

I'm thinking about doing it. Anyone else make the plunge? What do you think of the incredible vs the 4s?

The incredible is a way better choice, u will be happy with ur decision, considering ur going to root it, only get it if ur planning on rooting. I am purchasing this phone tomorrow, upgrading from the HTC Thunderbolt and I'm very exited.

Hi, I have been looking for a new android device for a couple of weeks now, been reading all sorts of articles about mobile congresses. It seems to me that no producer wants to build the perfect smartphone (for me)... Every new device has some major flaw that makes it unusable for me.
For example:
Nexus 4: Wow, great hardware, great screen! For that price? Nice deal! But wait... no SDcard slot? Small storage? Bad camera? Meh.
LG Optimus4X: Well yeah, great hardware too, but after the Optimus2X I'll NEVER buy LG again. Their software support is the worst.
Galaxy S3/S4: This may be a device that some consider perfect, but for me the design is a turn-off. I know, this is highly subjective, but the rounded edges and all-plastic look is so 2010.
Xperia Z: When this was announced I was very excited and wanted to buy one right at the release... Nice hardware, supposedly awesome camera, and above all, waterproof. But the first reviews revealed an average camera and a horrible screen.
HTC One: Top-notch hardware, revolutionary camera, alu unibody, big storage despite no SDcard... What could go wrong with this one? Again, reviews soon revealed the camera is not as good as advertised, and the battery life is poor.
All I need is state-of-the-art hardware in a nice case for a reasonable price. I could't care less about the stock ROM since I am addicted to flasing the latest custom ROMs, that means however that the phone should have decent support at xda.
Come on. I WANT to buy a new phone, why do you make it so hard for me? I cannot bear buying a device where I know beforehand that it has some big flaws that are going to annoy me for as long as I use it. I guess I just have to keep on using my old Nexus S until Google hopefully announces the XPhone in May.
I Totally agree with you on the Samsung's... Their supposed high quality "polycarbonate" - Just a fancy name for PLASTIC if you ask me... Quite a predicament... I personally own an HTC One, while the camera is DEFINITELY not as good as advertised, the quility is similar to the Galaxy S3... And as for battery life... It lasts longer than the S3, One X, HD2, Desire X and iPhone 5 (Just a few examples).. Battery life is actually quite good... Just my opinion... But you are right... There is no perfect smartphone at the moment... You just have to decide in which areas you are willing to sacrifice...
Good Luck...
Is it that damn hard to make good phone nowadays?
I do remember few models which are STILL awesome, though hardware is dated.
Every new model on market is flawed, as OP stated either it's missing some component(WHY?!) or is not functional.
I own HD2 and sometimes I envy quad-cores, but damn, my phone got everything.

Go away, troll somewhere else. Or add something valuable to this thread.
Anyway, there is some hope on the horizon, with new Intel based phones. Lenovo K900 is one of them, looks nice.
