[Q] (Q)Best rom and kernel for longest On time - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After 2 weeks using my At&t atrix I realize that this handphone doesnt meet my requirement. I hope i can have a phone that will stand minimum a day without plug in for charging. Using my atrix for twitter, browsing and 4 miling list, it only can stand for maximum 8 hours.
Can anyone suggest me what is the best rom (and maybe kernel) for longest on time...?
thanks before

I have tried a bunch of ROM's. All give good battery life with Faux Stopgap+ 1.0GHz kernel. You will have to UV to get the best life. I am now getting 12+ hours with pretty heavy use, and could go 40hrs with low to medium use. Currently on Darkside ROM, but get same results with CM7 also.
I have WiFi and data on all day, but get best battery life using WiFi with screen on only and turning Wifi off while at work, which is how I can achieve the times above.

Ok, thanks for the info, already flash the kernel and will see if this kernel can make my phone stand for a day

CM7 nightly build 20 gave me the longest standby time. But I guess every phone is different.

After using the kernel for a day, the result isn't very good. Only stand for 6 hours.I attach the batt statistic. Why when the phone in idle the batt consume still high?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk

I think that the answer to this question isnt as clear as one may think...
1. CM7 while working good is still in beta, and Im assuming that it will stay there until CM9 arrives...
2.MIUI one of the more popular roms is currently in Alpha stages.
I believe that these two are probaly the most popular ROMs around, and not just for the MAtrix. I think that once we start seeing stable builds of both, it would just come down to a matter of preference.
For the time being, I use CM7. Its stable enough for everyday use, however it still has bugs here and there.
I'm desperately waiting for CM9 and I think that MIUI definitively deserves a try. In the near future I'm positive that this question would be a little bit easier to answer.

Btw what the best way to do UV ?

Have to experiment. Every phone is different. There are already numerous threads with info on this. Also, I now use System Tuner Pro instead of SetCPU. More options and better overall in my opinion.

You have to UV as I mentioned before to get the best results.

Joker's kernel cm7 better battery

Who knows which kernel I can use to undervolt and how do I do that using CM settings? And will this give me better battery life? thanx guys

there is only two so try one for a couple of days to see which one is better for your phone. you need to go through a couple of charge cycles to get a true test.
use myrt from the market to uv.

Thanks for the feedback, now testing -100 uv'd, i noticed that 3g-hdspa in GSM kill really faster the battery, anyone noticing that too?

Post your battery life pictures here. (Post your new ics battery life here)

Hey guys. Thought I'd make a thread on battery life just so everyone can show how long the battery lasts and with how much usage.
So people can get a good idea of what your using please post 4 things.
And please make sure you take a screenshot of all 4 things.
1. Post a picture of battery usage and of display time. Also please post a picture of the battery graph.
NEW: Please Post a screenshot of the app better battery status when reporting stats. We want to see what apps you're using.
2. Post what Rom version you're on and what kernel version. (ie im on Checkrom v4 with siyah 2.6.7)
3. Tell if your using a script such as init.doh or something like that.
4. Tell if your using another battery if not stock. (I'm using the stock battery by the way.)
5. If your on ics please post battery life of roms.
Altogether the post should look like this.

What do you suggest then?
It also appears you didn't use the phone. What did you do for that long? Your stats say you starred at a black screen.
Attatched is me surfing the web for 3 hours and still have almost 50pc battery left. Its real easy for me to get 5 hours battery if I use the phone for a long amount of time in one sitting. Impressive stats are when people get 3 days and 4 hours screen on.
I use a bunch of things to save battery. Safe to say its all written up in my init.doh thread.

Stick with what you enjoy. Each ROM base will have it's negatives. I'd use most functional ROM. Battery life isn't a mystery. Your display time of under two hours must have been very heavy use. One thing I've noticed with kl1 base is initially and few days after it always posts great battery results then after things settle it posts noticeably lesser battery life.

[Q] Help - poor battery

Hi, I need some battery help, this is my first android phone after running with ios for the last 4 years, I'm using th S3 and loving it however I'm having to charge the phone twice a day. Like I say this is my first android so rooting is new and I unsure what I'm doing here. I've followed plenty tips to save battery life but it's still running down too quick.
After 3 1/2 hours of very little use my battery is at 70%
Standby has zapped 24% of that
Screen another 24%
Internet 21%
System 12%
OS 8%
These safe the main culprits for the battery use, I understand you can do something when you root the devise, any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
This should be in the Q&A section, but please be specific as to what exactly you were doing? (Gaming, browsing in 3g or wifi, etc.) If you just got the phone however, just wait for about three and four days and the real battery life would start to emerge. This is the time when most phones can actually last for almost a day or two. Another thing is that you should download Better BatteryStats and find apps that give the most wakelocks. Just take a screenshot and upload it here if you need help. And live wallpapers and widgets do cause some unnecessary battery drain.

I think he's talking about underclocking the max cpufreq to 800 mhz when you're sure that you're not going to be using the device for a while. I think it's a pretty good idea actually, but certainly not practical for everybody especially heavy users like me

Yeah. I sometimes do that when im not near a charger and my battery is dwindeling. Anything less than 800mhz is pretty bad though when your used to the rapidness.
Looks like im selling this badboy anyway. Hopefully get a lg nexus next week. It seems to me that to acheive proper butteryness you have to use toichwiz ui. None of the cm10 or even when i use nova or any other launcher. None of are as smooth as tkuchwiz.Im mad for mods and flashing so think its time for a switch.

Thinking of the same too actually. But based on the rumors, I hear more nexuses coming from other OEMs are to be actually revealed rather than just from lg. Although if the nexus 4 really does come with just 8gb of internal storage without a microsd slot then I'm sticking with my S3. Although I hear that new parts of code are already starting to show up in the Origen-board-something for exynos processors, this might turn out to be a gamechanger for our problems with cm10 or other pure android goodies.

[Q] Could anyone please help me out with overclocking?

I've already flashed two kernels in hopes of overclocking my Note 1. On one, it hung at the Samsung screen and on the other it booted (after doing something with each app) but kept showing force close messages that I couldn't close.
I really want to overclock my phone because it freezes a lot.
Also, I haven't had any luck with radios, either. These flash okay, but with dramatically slower speeds. Right now, I get on avg. 10 mpbs, but I've seen people with upwards of 50.
How could I do these things? Thanks.

I'm running Blackstar XI with AT&T. And I've only tried flashing overclock kernels, with no success. SetCPU lets me underclock, but the current kernel doesn't let me OC.
Kind of the same with the radios. I've only tried flashing them, with no faster speeds.
Are there other methods then these ways?

Well hopefully your flashing correct kernels for whatever ROM your running first thing ... And the 50mbps is probably due to the LTE speeds tmo released in a few cities .. Kansas is one I know of .....and over clocking isn't always the best ... I underclock myself to help save battery ... I'm not calling you a noob by any means but read up on android news and check our forums and you will fins your answers I promise

I'm not saying don't over clock I just don't cause of battery drain ...... You can just watch CPU temperature and be careful ...maybe don't over clock to max just a little bit like 1600 or something

The only kernel capable of over clocking right now is ptmr3s kernel but I believe it only works with that hong Kong firmware. There are older kernels that can over clock but won't work with the latest cm merges. Like Shane said don't max out most notes can't handle it I never go higher then 1792. Over clocking is great but I don't think we will see a over clock kernel any time soon maybe look into scripts and tweaks.

Under clocking does not reduce performance. Mediocre gaming does not need 1.5ghz if you UC to 1.2/1.1 your performance will remain the same... Out of the extra hour of battery life that doesn't reduce performance its kind of a no brainer. Anyways stay on topic.

Best battery life ROM or Kernel?

There are quite a few JB Rezound Roms out there. I've mainly used Neos ones, either Infection or his version of PAC. But the flashaholic in me gets the better of me and Id like to try something different, this time with a focus on better battery life, which on the Rezound has never been anything more then fair at best.
Any recommendations of ROM or kernels that have good battery life or a combination of both?
I can't recommend the "best" ROM/kernel for battery life (I've only tried a few) but I'm having some really good use with the 10.2 CM ROM. You can also use a kernel that lets you change CPU speeds (specifically underclocking). The 10.1 CM thread has some great tips for getting the most out of your battery, in the FAQ.

Bad luck not meaning actual problems just really bad battery life and its just not as smooth as ASOP. I just don't like it.
Im on Shrikes Pac Man rom right now and I like it but I get at least one hot reboot a day on it and right now Im getting some other odd things.
best batt life?
I've been using/abusing custom roms since the Rezound first appeared.
But, I keep going back to Ecliptic Rez.
You have a choice of stock, Lunar and Funky for kernel during setup.
I like newest "funky kernel" for battery life because it throttles way down when screen is off.
And best of all, tether and everything else Just Works in this rom.
Runs very smooth when you use a trimmer like LagFix occasionally.
Thank you to Hawk and Snuzz!!!! Nice work....
