I have the WiFi only Flyer and I am running the offical leaked honeycomb ROM and I noticed that cell standby was back yet again. I have fast boot disabled as well. Please someone fix this, it is getting VERY annoying.
Is this because the leaked version is GSM based? It's possibly the radio software is causing the battery drain on the wifi model(???) . Just a guess though. I remember dell streak owners going through a similar thing.
I apologize if this theory has already been debunked or addressed. Haven't been following the development thread.

Well I had the issue with LeeDroid 2.3.4 so I disabled fastboot and that fixed it. However fastboot is already disabled on the honeycomb ROM.

Leedroids (awesome DHD dev) is GSM based too I believe. Did you experience the cell standby on the stock wifi rom?
If you're running Globatron's version you may want to try his development thread. I understand the support has been awesome.

If you are running the latest HC from GLobaltron, you should not see this IF.
at the start-up initial screens you picked Wifi only, NOT wifi / 3g when you selected your language, Google account etc. If you did not do that correctly, then the Flyer is trying to initialize a non-existing 3g radio. You might have to reset to factory default and go through user setup again.
I know that I chose WiFi only. I didn't have the issue in stock gingerbread ROM. I did use Globatrons method.
I'm on GLobaltron's leaked official HC and at first everything was great. Standby battery is fine, no mobile network. After installing some apps (I feel Skype might be the one to blame) I suddenly noticed that Cell network (whatever it is called in settings) was eating battery on Wifi only Flyer. After some research I got to several fixes:
1) Disable Fastboot (was already disabled)
2) Open Calculator and punch in !+!+4636+!+! to get to the setting and turn mobile network off. For some reason that thing doesn't want to stay off on my flyer. I'm suspecting some stupid app is doing something wrong there.
3) Open up Root Explorer and delete/move/rename phone.apk, telephony..apk and mms.apk.
After some screwing around with this, my Standby Battery run time is back to normal. For some reason "Mobile Network Signal" shows yellow (in battery info) instead of not showing anything like before. Well at least it isn't Red anymore, like it was when I was having problems (I guess because it was actively looking for signal). I usually turn Wifi off when screen is off, and last time I checked it Flyer lost only 1% of battery during 9 hour night sleep (from 100% to 99%) which is OK in my book.
I try to delete them in File Expert with root permissions and they don't delete.
If you have a wifi only Flyer and the HC latest root ROM, ( the wifi version, not the 3g version ) is installed you should not see any 3g signal bars. So I suspect you installed the wrong version perhaps.

I don't know about OP, but I personally have installed Wifi only version on my Wifi only Flyer. I didn't see any bars, but when my Flyer was misbehaving I went to battery stats and have seen Cell standby (of something like this) eating battery. It showed something like 10h (or whatever time it was disconnected) on battery, 100% without signal. And once again, I didn't have that issue right away. That issue came up after some apps where installed. I have tried to track it down, but after some time didn't feel like dealing with it anymore and just renamed system files. It fixed my issue.
My Wifi only Flyer on Wifi only ROM shows Mobile Network Signal in battery stats as a Yellow line. Have no clue what that means, but at least now it doesn't drain my battery.
I did download the WiFi only ROM. Tried using the calc trick, and it was working fine for a bit then the radio was on again.

This is a weird, weird problem I can't seem to find anywhere else apart from the MoDaCo forums, which is funny because the problem started after I flashed MCR 3.2, but all the fixes in that thread aren't working for me.
Basically, since flashing MCR 3.2, I no longer get a 3G/'H' data icon in the notification bar AT ALL. In the phone status information it says I am connected to Orange 3G, but it doesn't work - using the browser it says 'no mobile connection found'. WiFi works fine. At first I thought I could just reflash another ROM/the radio again (I'm using the latest one) but nope, 3G appears to be dead. I've tried 4 different ROMs covering everything from 1.5 to 2.1 Legend dumps to no avail.
I've never had a problem like this before... anyone know of any possible fixes I could try?
Cheers.
P.S. I'm using a GSM HTC Hero on Orange.
hold power button down, check if mobile network is activated.
the 3g/h icons become active when you have an active data session. so it is possible that your are attached to a 3g network, but don't see it because you are not data attached, only voice.
have you tried villainrom 3.4? fixes it for me worth a try
I think the issue is called "data drop"? Anyways, although I am currently running Axura 2.0.3, it doesn't seem to matter, all 2.2's seem to do it. There will come a point in the day when I try to open something web-based, the 3G activity on the notification bar just does nothing. I suppose rebooting solves it for a while, but going to settings>wireless & network>mobile networks>network operators>search now and then re-choosing T Mobile somehow resets it as well.
-Can somebody explain what the bigger issue is here (why it does this on 2.2)? -Is there some type of a "fix" out there, or one contemplated?
-If there isn't, is there a better way to re-set the data than either of the 2 things above? If re-registering solves it, how does it get un-registered in the first place?
-On 2.1 ROMS (and even stock) I was routinely getting data speeds of between 4-5M. On 2.2 it's hardly ever more than 3. Is this something inherent in 2.2? Seems like we went backwards a bit???
Hmm, I haven't seen it yet. I did experience Airplane mode once on one of the earlier Onyx releases, and the only thing that solved it was to reboot the device.
I have experienced a strange issue with the browsers though, I will get a notification that internet connection is required, but the page loads, I even tried to download and install an alternative browser, and got the same annoying pop-up, mind you I was on 3G, and also used the market to download the app to install it at the same time in the same location.

That also happened to me yesterday. The pages in the browser does load but it's annoying that a pop up message will always appear when using the browser. I'm using Froyo now for almost a week and it happened the first time yesterday. Then i reboot then it's fixed.
I am getting a lot of disconnects too. But it also happens when I am on wifi, sometimes wifi refuses to start and errors out. Onyx 3.1.
Just happened trying to post this - wifi.

Did your area recently have 4G go live? I've had data problems on both mine using froyo and my girlfriends running stock ji6. So I don't feel the froyo roms are the cause. Last night neither of us could get data to work for more than a few minutes at a time.

I too have noticed this on all the 2.2 roms. What I see is the up/green arrow on the 3G icon light up but not the down/orange arrow. I'll try loading stuff up on the web/market and nothing but all the while that green arrow is lighting up. I'm guessing green = upload and orange = download? Idk, but its annoying as hell.

Not yet. Philly always gets hit up last. I did some more searching and found this in the early part of the Axura thread:
"The Lib & Bin fixes are for the battery.
I haven't had any problem.
It seems to be a hit & miss type of thing.
He told me That is was probably the same issue that was causing his network location to not work, and that he fixed in with the lib and bins. Just waiting on a release. Everything else seems great in this rom. Runs much smoother that the JPM build."
I have no idea what this means or if it's relevant, but there's something ain't right...
Running Axura. Since 2.2 does not see the hsdpa, I loaded the ji6 modem and all is working great. No data issues at all.

how's the battery life?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
No update on this thread. Anyone got a fix?
I am experiencing the same problem with all the 2.2 ROMs, currently on bionix-v 1.2.1 with KB1 modem.
When it is in the "data drop" condition, sometimes voice calls would not connect and SMS fails to send. But signal status still showing full bars (I live next to the tower).
I'm on an UMTS/HSPA network, so it does look to be a ROM rather than a radio problem. I've tried almost all the available modems - same problem. Yes, I use my phone heavily so there is always one or two apps trying to access the network - and they would be all be stuck (or errors) at the same time.
If I'm tethered, either via 2.2 AP Mode or USB tether, the session is stuck until reset/reboot.
However, the free "WiFi Tether for rooted users" app from the market gets around this condition all the time... somehow :
Hi Guys
I've got a BestBuy WIfI only Flyer and I'm running Paul O'Brien's HoneyComb 3.41.405.1 and it runs great.
The battery life seems similar to GingerBread but I've noticed that the thing using most of the battery is the mobile radio (via 'battery use' in settings). When I switch to Airplane mode and then turn on WiFi battery life does in deed seem to be much better !
I could leave it in Airplane Mode - I just have to put up with the irratating airplane mode lock screen instead of the beautiful HTC sense one but I'd like to understand why the radio circuitry appears to be turned on. It suggests something is not quite right.
Can anyone shed some light on this ?
Thanks
PS - Since the battery life is about the same as with GingerBread I wonder if the mobile radio circuitry was getting turned even in the standard HTC rom as well ?
Are you using Twitter? THat killed a lot of battery when I was on HC.
I don't think Twitter is running. It is installed but I've NEVER signed in.
In any case all data would surely be over WiFi? The Issue here is that the mobile radio (I.e the 3G circuitry) is appearing to draw some power from the battery on a WiFi Only Flyer !
On initial set up when it asks for if you use 3g of wifi you may have clicked next so it tries to use 3g. the only way is to wipe data and when it asks for wifi or 3g you pick wifi only.
There is an issue if you do not declare wifi only during initial setup screens then the cell standby code runs continuously trying to initialize a non-existent radio, and eats the battery. The only way to fix it is as described in the post above.
Thanks Guys
I'll try wiping the flyer. Whats the best way to back-up my apps under HC?
Regards
There is a way to fix this through the easter egg menus hidden in the flyer. There's a thread on how to do this somewhere, but I'll give the instructions here anyway.
Open the flyer's calculator app.
Put the flyer in landscape mode so you can see all the advanced function keys.
Enter: !+!+4636+!+! and hit = .
From the easter egg menu which comes up, select "Tablet Information."
Click "Turn off radio."
That's it!
Note that you have to do this each time the flyer reboots. It isn't sticky. Luckily the symbols entered into calculator ARE sticky, so just go into it again and hit equals (unless you have to use the calculator for something else, of course. I recommend downloading a different app, like RealCalc, for everyday use).

Battery life better now
Hi Guys
I used the Calculator 'Easter Egg' to turn off the mobile radio.
I've been running the Flyer ON-STOP for the last 8 hours and I've got 8% battery left. For 6 1/2 of those hours I've been watching YouTube videos (Just left it playing through my playlists) so it's been using WiFi for at least that long out of the 8 hours.
Seems like pretty good battery life to me !
Thanks again
Ok, we have numerous reports of GPS not holding lock after upgrading to Honeycomb.
This thread is for the purpose of identifying the resolution to this issue.
To begin with I'll start with asking for details from those of you who are encountering the issue and also those who are not.
What I want to know is, what software you were running and also exactly how you got to that version. For example ist is not sufficient to say you did my S-OFF upgrade, I also need to know the device (wifi or 3g) and version of the upgrade you used and whether you switched from a different version of the software to your current version.
For example, something like this:
Not Working: US Wifi Flyer, S-OFF, originally upgraded with the WIFI package built from 3.55.405.1 3G package, re-flashed with the US wifi OTA.
Casual observation seems indicate that it is all or mostly Wifi flyers that are affected.
Had trouble with my US Wifi Flyer, S-OFF, originally upgraded with the WIFI package built from 3.55.405.1. Updated that to us OTA package and still had trouble.
Started all over downgraded to GB then went straight to Globatron’s latest (the big file)
Working now

Thanks, this is consistent with my working assumption which is that it affects WIFI flyers that were flashed with the 3g ROM.
I have the US wifi flyer. S-Off, installed the 3.55.405.1 3G package followed by Leedroid rom. GPS was no good. Went back to the 3.55.405.1 3G package (from nandroid backup) and GPS no good.
Then installed the US WiFi rom. GPS is fine. Installed Leedroid and GPS is still fine.
hi globaltron,
US BB Wifi Flyer, S-OFF, originally upgraded with the HC WIFI package built from previous RUU_flyer_wifi_B10.zip, then installed LeeDrOiD HC V2.1.0 but GPS satellite lock wont stay on (dropping signal), tried all agps patches no go. Finally flashed new RUU_flyer_wifi_BBUS.B10.zip (2x) just to make sure over leedroid rom still the same results.
GPS Dropping
DEVICE: UK WIFI FLYER, 16GB
NOT WORKING: S-OFF, 3.55.401 - roms tried: LeeDroid, WestFire, Globatron's B09 (originally upgraded with the WIFI package built from 3.55.405.1 3G package)
NOT WORKING: S-OFF, 3.55.1114.31 - roms tried: HoneyPot, Globatron's B10
WORKING: S-ON, OTA 3.55.1114.31 (updated from Stock GB)
Also, worth noting that I (may) have experienced bluetooth problems. I use a OBD2 bluetooth adapter with my car and Torque App was having none of it with HC custom roms (including B09/B10). Basically, it connects to the OBD2 adapter, but but never negotiates the protocol. Works fine with GB and HC OTA. I could be alone on this since I don't trust the OBD2 adapter.
Navigation apps I use: CoPilot 8 & 9, Google Maps.

so, with S-ON no GPS issues good to know. I have been trying to find a fix with no avail. I'm S-OFF US HC wifi rom.
no, it's not hboot.
My observations using the GPS Status app.
DEVICE: US BB WIFI FLYER, 16GB
Working: GB stock rooted & GB Leedroid
NOT WORKING: S-OFF, 3.55.1114.31 All configurations below
1. Globatron's B09 (originally upgraded with the WIFI package built from 3.55.405.1 3G package).
2. Globatron's B10 Cross-grade from Globatron's B09 Wifi
3. Globatron's B10 full clean install of US Wifi RUU over Globatron's B09 Wifi .
Not tested : HC OTA update from GB
Setup: Turn off screen timeout. Open GPS status or another app that uses GPS that shows you status constantly.
Symptoms to watch for:
GPS turns on and locks quite fast, first time will stay locked for 30 - 60 secs. Then it loses lock and starts searching, Acquires lock again in a few seconds, then loses lock again after about 10 sec. repeats the loss of lock from this point acquiring and then losing lock every few seconds.
Tried clearing AGPS data and re-downloading, no help.
Referring to DigitalMD's post above
I have the BestBuy WiFi 16GB Flyer
I purshed it stock and took the OTA HC update.
Over the last two days I have since Rooted S-Off and am running Globatron's US Wifi RUU build.
Before I rooted my GPS did not maintain lock. It was symptomatic like your findings.
After I rooted and flashed HC, GPS was still symptomatic.
I have since edited the /system/etc/gps.conf folder.
The first string of text by default is:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
I have changed it to read:
NTP_SERVER=us.pool.ntp.org
I used Root Explore and long pressed the gps.conf file and selected open in text editor. Make and save changes and reboot.
Having owned the HTC Thunderbolt, that device was plagued with similar GPS issues and this was a fix that was offered up in other threads here at XDA.

Have you tried observing the actual status using a GPS status app? It may relock fast enough to satisfy some programs like Google maps and navigation even if it unlocks every few seconds.
Confirmed:
Monitored the GPS lock through the GPS Status App.
I have kept a solid lock status.
Theoretically that should not be enough to keep it locked , but might help achieve first lock faster. This is a strange problem so I don't know whats going on.
edited gps.config to NTP_SERVER=us.pool.ntp.org same results no go for me.
could it be a possible power saving related issue?
NOT WORKING:

Could someone try this for me … open the locations app and allow it to find you. Wait for the GPS icon, at the bottom to disappear, exit that app and open GPS Status … see if you maintain lock
A-GPS as cause?
Maybe I overlook it but what I see, is the problem a 3G ROM on a WiFi version. I am not an gps-expert but is this not normal because we have a A-GPS which is using also 3G and WiFi signals for a proper GPS signal?
I will check this theory and maybe it has nothing to do with the ROM-Version but with the build.prop and other specific GPS stuff which expect a proper 3G.
PS. And yes, I am no fan from removing some phone apps to have a WiFi-version. This is dirty and I am not sure but maybe this problem is the outcome.

As you said, A-GPS or Assisted GPS relies on a data connection to acquire some satellite information to make the lock faster. Therefore, it makes sense, if it was not as stable with out a 3G connection on the move.
But then again, whats confusing is that, it is stable on gingerbread, at least for me. but not on Honeycomb. i'm always tethered to my phone on the move, so A-GPS should work normally.
*EDIT: I forgot to mention, it happens on both the 3G HC ROM and WiFi HC ROM.
I thought I saw a fix for this but I can't seem to find it.This happens to me regardless of what ICS rom I am on. Sometimes when I turn the screen on the wifi won't connect. It says it is out of range or it will just say that the connection is save. I have to turn the wifi off and the turn it back on and tell it scan. Then it will connect. I have tried changing the channel on the router and rebooting the router I connect to but that didn't help. Anybody know of a fix for this?
Unfortunately no...
I have the same condition when using ICS ...
It's very frustrating as you know ..
Since the chance of getting a fix is slim, considering jelly bean is the hot topic these days ...I've reverted to GB.
It's not perfect ....but at least the data and wifi are solid ....with great sound and call quality...
I'm staying rooted stock for a while.....g
I personally have not had any issues with wifi. I am running the ics Gubment Cheeze and have been since the first test build. Not once has my wifi not been there for me. Ics wifi has actualy been MORE stable than GB for me.
Just a silly question ... Do you both have your wifi set to keep wifi on during sleep?

Unfortunately for my my issue is there even on GB based roms. Not sure what is going on. Doesn't do it on my sister's skyrocket or her husband's iphone so I know the router is okay.
Wifi setting for me is "always on "...
As I try to take advantage of wifi hotspots ...when traveling..
On the ICS builds, I get notification of an open hotspot, but no auto connect.
But on stock GB ....I get auto connect every time.
I can't remember if ICS has the auto connect toggle...but GB does ....at least in the hotspot system app.
If ICS ran as well for me ...I'd keep it....as I think flappjaxxx ICS build is far better than stock ...but between the dreaded lag and connection issues, I bailed out for a bit ...or until I get these connection issues fixed..
Maybe I should move ???.....LOL

I am on flapjaxx and haven't had any issues with auto connecting to any of my 'known' wifi's (5 of them as i move from site to site). It detects the at&t hotspots but doesn't connect (i actually never tried to connect ) so don't know about connect automatically. Might test it out next time i am close to McD's.
It's an att specific fuction using the hotspot app ...
If it's a wifi hotspot registered on the ATT network, then it auto connects when in range.
But I believe the UCLF6 upgrade pulled this feature out...
There is a similar app on the market from ATT too duplicate this in ICS ...but it's unreliable, and a battery hog for Me...g

Yeah, sorry if i hijacked your thread there. Was looking at what Greg posted.
Have you tried reflashing only the modem? Flapjaxx has some stickied in the dev thread or you can pull one from a pure stock and put it in an existing flash zip. That's what I had to do. I had all kinds of problems coming from GB to ICS with the radio. Once I found one that worked I made a zip and keep it just in case. Haven't had to use it yet but you never know.
