In which directory are downloaded apps stored? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I'm looking to find the directory where apps go when they are downloaded. I have ES File Explorer.

Do you mean apps downloaded and installed from the market? If so, generally the .apk files go to data/app.

Is there a spot where they are stored after downloading, but before installation?

Try /sdcard/Download

Looked all through my SD card and did not find what I was looking for (I don't have a /sdcard/Download directory BTW). I'm looking for the ATVAndroidClient Amazon Video apk, because I saw one post where the user got it to successfully install when selected directly from its directory location. I too am having trouble getting it to install when I just select it from the popup window after it's dl'd.

The directory structure is pretty annoying on this (and I guess android). I find multiple (3,4,5+) locations for downloads (and books, media, etc). Each browser puts it somewhere else, etc usually without asking. Anyway, easiest thing to do is to do a search with a file manager (root explorer, file expert) to find where you downloaded something.

It is in /cache as downloadfile.apk

Not receiving picture texts.....

Hello all, I was hoping someone may have run into this and might could give me some feedback.
I have my phone rooted, and use Handcent for texting. I have no problems sending pictures......and up until recently, I've had no problems receiving pictures either. At first I thought it was just going to be iPhone users, but have since experienced the problem getting pics from various phones and carriers.
iPhone4 - Verizon
iPhone3 - AT&T
Samsung Eternity - AT&T
There are a few others as well. I have disabled the original messaging app, and only use Handcent. I've had no problems until the past couple of weeks. I am wondering if maybe it isn't an update issue from Handcent......I know it has manually updated a couple of times in the past few weeks.
Anyone have any suggestions?
What do you mean when you say you disabled the original app?
What ROM/kernel are you using?

Firmware 2.1update1
Kernel 2.6.29
I rooted simply to remove bloatware, I haven't changed to any of the different ROM's or anything.
I deleted MMS.apk. I wanted to try to reinstall it, to see if maybe one of the Handcent updates caused the problem somehow, after I deleted the MMS app......but I can't get it to install. I downloaded the MMS.apk on my desktop, and open it through MyFiles. I've done a few apps this way, no problem.
MMS.apk you have to push to /system/app
You cant install it like you would a normal apk.

You can install it with ESFile Explorer if you are rooted. You can find it on the market for free. You'll then need to find a mms.apk place it on your sdcard.. then using ESFile copy the apk and place it in system/apps/
Another option would be to download GeekSMS.. it runs on its on without the mms.apk. I've tried it and it worked fine for me.

Ok, I have it on my SD....and long press -----> copy, but can't figure out how to paste it into RE.
Sorry for being such a noob.
Ok, figured out how to paste in RootExplorer.
Now that I did that, I ran MMS after pasting......it still won't install. It boots like its going to install the app, then I get a message saying it didn't install. I got the same thing when I just copied the APK into MyFiles and tried installing it.
What am I missing?
You're not supposed to try and install it. You move it into the /system/app and then it should show up in your app drawer.

yea you can do that if you don't have the market
my favorite site i use is 4shared.com
Just put .apk after the app you want, without space.
and you wont really need to put it on the apk folder when downloading using 4shared
as soon as it finishes download just click on it and install
P.S. If you have the amazon android store on your phone, you should put it on the tab. That's a good market alternative.

Orginel Facebook on Tab 10.1 This one works fast and great on the Tab

http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/download/temp/1305810095_Facebook_for_Android_1.5.4.apk
Oke i know that the origenel Facebook from the market doesen't work that well on the Tab.
So i have tryed to install an old version of Facebook, wiche i have also on my SGSII, This version is the only one for me that gets all the newsfeed etc!
So i dowload the Facebook.apk (1.5.4) Then i used root explorer to move the apk.file to system/apps, then i clicked on the file and choose install!
It works great on my tab 10.1 (GT-7510) its works smooth and fast!

I'll try this out.
EDIT 1: I get an error during login "An error occurred during sign in. Please try again later" (my internet connection is working fine)
Stay tuned...It might just be one of my settings somewhere, give me a minute.
EDIT 2: Yep it was, I fixed it.
Looks like its working great, thanks for the download.

I find it easier to just adb install it since my GT is already connected to the computer and I'm on the computer. No need to take all the extra time to move to SD card, open an app, move the file to system, then install it.
For those of you who don't know how to do this:
1. Connect the device to your computer with USB Debugging enabled
2. Open command prompt and type "cd c:\android-sdk\platform-tools" (or wherever your Android SDK adb files are)
3. Type "adb devices" and make sure it's reading your device
4. Put the .apk into the root of your C: drive if you haven't already. (of course you don't HAVE to if you know what you're doing and are comfortable doing it)
5. Type in command prompt "adb install c:\Facebook_for_Android_1.5.4.apk"
6. Wait for it to install successfully, unplug your device, and you should have the App in your App Drawer.
Note1: If you already have a facebook app installed, you might have to uninstall before doing this.
Note2: Don't add the quotes when typing in Command Prompt, just type what's inside the quotes.

I havent had that issue. Being rooted shouldnt change anything because it doesnt need superuser permissions.
Well first i instald it like the normal way, it worked... Except the notifications, when i looked furthure i saw that the apk file did't show up in system/apps.
Show the instalation worked but diden't push the file tru!
So then i removed the app, and thoke the apk file and copy it to system/apps by using root explorer. Then i clicked the apk file in system/apps and select instal, basecly its same instalation but now youre sure the file is pushed where it shoud be right?

Correct. Does it work fine after doing that?
Why would it matter at all if you install this normally or push into system/app? I don't think with an app like FB that it matters...installing the apk normally seems to be the same as getting it from the Market..
best FB app is the browser. no need for an extra app to access FB, IMO.

If you ever lose a system app again, you can do an "adb push" from your computer. Just download the firmware and unzip it and you will find the files you need. Getting the file posted can be easier but not having to wait for someone to respond can be quicker.

Related question... when I try to add an attachment to an email the "My Media" is the only option remotely close to being able to browse for a file - how do I replace it with (or simply add) a real file browser?
Also, where can I put a file so that it actually shows up in My Media???
Couldn't you just use ES Explorer or any file manager with root access and reinstall the gallery.apk located in "System\App"?
Or maybe I'm missing something.

Is that the Nook Gallery ("My Media") or the standard Android Gallery app?
I'm trying to replace the crappy and very limited Nook one...
Would I just install another gallery to replace the My Media?
EDIT: I just clicked on it and chose install, I guess it IS the "My Media". Have you used "My Media"? I want something like a regular browser that let's me attach files (when sending emails) other than just the pictures that come with the NT.... Also would like a gallery type browser in addition to the Root Browser I have installed...
With Enhanced Email, I can attach any type file from anywhere using Gallery, My Media, Quickoffice, sound recorder or any of my file managers.

Sdcard Question?

Does Anyone know how I can determine which app is creating a Folder on my Sdcard? When I click the folder its Empty, so its basically pointless...
Thanks in Advance!
The folder is usually named something similar to the apk, so if you search through your /data/app directory you should see a similar name as the created folder.

Usually when you go in to the folder you might catch a clue of who they are and what app created them.
Many goes by the dev name or software name.

Normally when a software stores in the SD card, it will create a folder with its name or the name of the dev company that made the program.
This is not always the case but its what usually happens, and this way you may have idea of why the (xxx) folder exits

I see what you say, I have that in my SD Card too. Sometimes its in reference to apps I've had in the past, sometimes its just for caching that the apps use it. In some cases I've seen that they where there when I've had another phone and because I've been lazy on cleaning it, it just carries on to the new on.
I would say, that if they are empty, then just leave them there, maybe one day if you start fresh on a new phone or ROM then before you start up to phone just place the SD Card in the PC and delete all the suspect ones, you should have a fresh start without issues then because you'll still be reinstalling the apps and they will create the folders they need.

The newest one I was getting was z7logs which I came to find was from outlook but like I said haven't added any new apps on this phone in months... Keeps me suspicious.. Did you ever find anything out ab the myrecord folder?
Directories myrecord & myalbum
Directories myrecord & myalbum are created by the
"Easy Downloader" app and also the "Pro" variant.
Creating empty files with equal names prevents directory
creation. But uninstalling is the only way to avoid this completely.
