Installing VillianROM using CWM and Format/Factory Rest in CWM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
First Post WHOOP WHOOP
I just installed my first ROM (infected V3) using CWM on my s2 and wanted to know if there is a procedure to do the same on the VillainROM using CWM.
Also i used the format/factory reset function in CWM and now my phone is displaying a top hat with a semi-circular arrow behind...its been like this for about and hour and i dare not stop it just in case.
How long would it take to factory reset and reboot....this seems a bit excessive
Thanks Guys

Do you only have the CWM logo, or do you have some text at the top of the screen. The logo should be telling you that you are in clockworkmod recovery.
If you have text at the top of the screen choose reboot now to complete your factory reset or if you have a nandroid backup saved restore that.
If you only have the logo, I would pull the battery and try booting again.
Villainrom is installed through clockworkmod same as most rom's. Put the downloaded zip on your sd card, go to clockworkmod recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, advanced-wipe dalvick, install zip from sd, choose zip.
Hope this helps.

Thanks mate,
I have successfully installed VillainROM
what can i do to it now?
I have been reading about cynogen mod, but how are these mods installed
Thanks

Q- Hanging on Cyanogdenmod Splash Screen after flash?

I have just flashed my Galaxy 5 with Cyanogenmod latest and it is now stuck on a reapeating splash screen of a little blue droid guy, its not doing nothing i cant access my phone as it wont advance from this splash screen, i have removed my battery but nothing has worked.
Any quick tips/fix please?
have you wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache?
I havent a clue what you mean so i'm guessing not aha:/
whats your custom recovery?
for amonra, there should be an option called wipe and it has everything i just said.
for clockworkmod, theres wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, and under advanced, theres wipe dalvik cache
I am not 100% positive but i used Clockworkmod v4 in order to get Cyanogenmod 7 onto my device if that answers your question? (im new to all this stuff).
All ive did is;
Installed clockworkmod v4
rebooted my device.
installed cyanogenmod as a zip from my sd card
rebooted my device.
Turned it back on and just this splash screen repeating
Im sorry i suck at this aha
with your phone off, hold home+vol down+power.
when it boots into clockworkmod, on the first menu, there should be an option to wipe data/factory reset and another one to wipe cache. do both.
then after you are done with that, go into the advanced menu and select wipe dalvik cache. now reboot
When i hold that combination down it brings up Download mode for some reason :S
oh yeah. my bad i was thinking about my phone.
try reinstalling the recovery (using odin) and see if it boots back into recovery (do this at your own risk; since i dont have a phone that uses odin, im not sure if this will work or not)
Could this damage/brick my phone?
Thank you so so so so much sir! Id take my hat off for you, if i wore one!
I love you.
im guessing it worked, right?
no problem
Yes ahah, longest 3 minutes in my life though! Thanks alot.

Stuck on loading screen after flash

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I think this is in the right place.
I used this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206746 to flash my HTC Sensation. I rooted, S-OFF and everything went fine. I flashed and backed it up. Now there were no error during flash (I flashed with the Clockwork app) and it rebooted and now for the last 40 minutes, its been stuck on the loading screen where it says "HTC, quietly brilliant" and then it starts again, and again and again. Slightly annoying now...
I have no idea what is wrong or what I should do.
Let me know if you need anymore info...

Did you wipe EVERYTHING before flashing?

have u tried to go to recovery? and what does it says?
Reflash. If not go to recovery. And wipe data. You might have a boot loop.

Thanks for the quick reply's and help. I realise now that I did not wipe EVERYTHING because I wanted to keep my HTC "scene" layout. I've restored it from before i flashed it and i'm going to flash again. Thanks again. Ill post if it worked.
Edit
I'm using Titanium Backup to save it all by the way and I've "Thanks" you all.
Well, did it work cuz I got stuck in that constant boot up mode yesterday and I just took the battery out and than held down volume plus power button went into HBoot than recovery and I had my original system backed up so I just wiped than restored my original than went in and flashed the ROM properly and all good now just thought this might help?
In ROM Manager, "ROM Pre-Installation" is "backup existing rom", "wipe data and cache" and "wipe dalvik cache. My question is, what is dalvik cache?

It seems I was flashing the theme for the ROM without the ROM. Anyway I downloaded the right one and it still doesn't work. Can someone just check this list of what I'm doing.
(Already Backed Up ROM)
- Open ROM Manager
- "Install Custom ROM"
- Choose the "P3D_Full_Wipe.zip"
- Let that flash and what not
- Boot into HBOOT
- Recovery
- Install zip from SD
- Choose "CdTDroid....zip"
- Let that do and what not
- Click "Reboot and start system"
Also, I'd like to know how to flash from Recovery. I think ^^that's^^ how.

Nope. It still doesn't work. No matter how many times I do it. I did it exactly right this time. I did it all from the ClockworkMod Recovery place. It still doesn't work. It just says HTC and it doesn't even come up with the slogan. I don't know what to do now.... Please help!
Edit
I've done everything in this post to root my phone with S-OFF and everything. I haven't used any other guides or anything.

Are you only trying to wipe by using that zip? Forget about that and wipe using the options in your recovery

Just trying that now and waiting..... How long will I have to wait for it to boot? So far its been 45 secs and its just flashed the slogan up on the loading screen.
It loaded! Yay! Now how to get the theme....
Can't you just do everything in recovery, your theme should still be in there if you backed it up just wondering?

Help help helllllppppp

Hi Guy,
I got a BIIIGGG problem.
After doing some VERY quick research i decided to get started by rooting and installing VillainROM, which worked lovely...no probs, however because there was a lack of themes (the main reason i rom'd the phone), I was swayed to go for Cynogen.
After downloading CM7.1 and installing through CWM my phone will not boot.
I have tried to do a factory reset through CWM, wipe the cache, and reinstall VillainROM but to no effect and stupidly i didnt backup my data.
Any advice on what i can do or have I bricked my phone?
What does the screen show? Can you get into download mode or recovery? Have you tried flashing the rom twice? This worked for me in the past.
Ricey
yep i can get into recovery and download mode, but when i boot the phone no joy
Ive tried installing the rom several times
Try formatting /data, /cache and /system from CWM recovery before flashing the new ROM.
If that doesn't help flash a stock ROM from Intratech's thread in the dev section via Odin.
1st- Boot into recovery.
2nd- wipe data/factory reset
3rd- wipe cache
4th- go to advanced/ wipe dalvik cache
5th- go to mounts and storage - format/system
6th- go to install ROM from SD card - select the ROM you'd like
7th- reboot system DO NOT TOUCH MAY TAKE A WHILE
8th- let it sit for 10 minutes once its booted so all the cache can build back up
9th- reboot, set up, and enjoy!!
Hope this helps!
Enzopreme you are a legend many thanks indeed

What the (*&^(*&^ am I doing wrong?

I was on a JB ROM that was starting to get sluggish for whatever reason. I just learned of Helly Bean ROM. I find the link on rootzwiki and download it and copy it to my phone's SD card. I press/hold power choose reboot and choose recovery. I know not to 3-finger boot to recovery in this stage so I use the ROMs reboot to recovery option. I make a backup of the current ROM. I then wipe dalvik, wipe cache, and finally i wipe data (factory restore) same as I've done a million times before. I choose install Zip from SD card choose the zip, the phone begins to install the ROM cuz I can see the little blue bar start and suddenly BAM! the damn phone reboots and stays stuck on the stupid SAMSUNG logo! WTF? I donwloaded the right ROM for the Fascinate and I didn't see any errors on the screen. The phone just reboots and stays stuck!
**** it! I'm going back to my Incredible.
odin back to stock and start over...if you need instructions click on the link in my sig!

[Q] Problem installing custom rom

Hi Guys
Im having some problems trying to install a custom rom into my new Galaxy SIII I9300.
The rom in question is OmegaRom V35
After roooting and all, yesterday i tryed installing the rom with mobile odin, following all the instructions.
The result was the phone rebooted after the instalation seemed to be ok, but got stuck on the booting animation, and never got out of there.
I Had then to inject cwm with odin desktop, wiped data, cache anda dalvik, and then proceed to install the stock rom with desktop odin. All went well and the phone worked great.
I thought that maybe the problem was with mobile odin pro. So today, i went and proceeded to install Omega V35 via CWM. I again put the file on internal sd card, wiped data, cache and dalvik, and the rom started flashing. It all started good but, with no warning, at the mniddle of the installation, when applications were being installed, the phone went automatically and wuickly back to CWM!
Of course the installation wasnt finished, so i was stuck with cwm on reboot. Again made wipe data, cache and Dalvik, tried again to flash Omega V35, and again, the same problem...
In the end, i had to flash the stock rom again.
I searched the forum, but i cant seem to find the problem for this. I followed all the instructions, and had no error messages besides CWM skiping the format of the card, and some message (that i've seen in videos as normal), when wiping Dalvik!
Any clue to what's happening?
A clue read the instructions for the rom .
<b>Installation:Install CWM Recovery with Odin - Get CWM Recovery here
Boot to CWM Recovery using volume up, power button and home key
Backup your device and make sure to keep a copy of the backup to your pc!
Wipe data / factory reset (Not needed if you already have Omega)
Install Omega
(Wipe cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step
Wipe dalvik cache will be done automatically during installation so you can skip this step)</b>

Maybe i didn't expressed myself correctly, but today i followed those instructions twice, and, at each of these tries the
same thing happened. When the flashing was running apparently problemless it simply stoped and went to CWM without rebooting.
