Anybody using HDMI out?? - HTC Rezound

I bought the official HTC adaptor for this and I can't get it to work.
I plugged power into it, used a brand new HDMI cable and nothing works at all.
The first time I plugged it in, an icon came on up top saying HDMI out but nothing showed on the TV screen.
Now, when i plug it in the phone starts charging but nothing else happens at all.

There are a couple members with the MHL adapter. You might just have a faulty accessory because to my knowledge none of them have issues.

MHL adapters do not work on their own, you have to plug a micro USB cable into the side to power it.

Yep, I'm using the HTC mhl adapter and it works, but a USB cable has to be plugged from the wall to the adapter.

Here's the one I'm using.

Probably find a cheaper one out there, but this one worked for me.

Just out of curiosity, what would be the purpose/need to hook HDMI up to your phone? (And no, I am not being snarky or a d*ck, just curious as to what it's used for...)

That's the same one I have (and that's where I got it)
I have an AC power cord plugged into it and it charges the phone just fine but it only recognized the HDMI cable once and now it does nothing but charge the phone.

You can plug the phone into an HDTV and show pictures or play movies at their full resolution on the screen. This phone can probably play HD video better than my (aging) laptop can.

Not sure if you tried disconnecting all of the cables and reconnecting them, but I'd give that a shot if you haven't already. A battery pull may not hurt either. Could also be a bad adapter or phone. Saw a few similar issues in the accessories section.

Did you choose the output in whatever application you are playing the source from? In the standard sense player, for example, there is a button that says output right next to the beats logo. I have heard that the option "TV" appears there when you are connected via HDMI or wifi to a televison.

For me, as soon as I plug in the adapter to the phone an hdmi icon appears in the notification section and the display shows up on the tv.

Yea, mine did that the very first time I plugged it in but it hasn't done it since.
The adaptor has to be defective, I have read a good percentage of them do not work correctly.

I'm using the cheapest one Amazon sells and it works great. I remember seeing someone else had a defective phone. You may be in the same boat. I'd try another adapter and if that doesn't work I would return the phone(exchange)

This is somewhat counter-intuitive, but the Samsung MHL adapter works extremely well. Oddly enough it works better on the Rezound than it does on the Infuse or Epic Touch 4G.
All that to say, yeah, you probably have a bad adapter.

Here's an MHL adapter people posted about using successfully in the accessories forum:

I am also using the one from monoprice. It works like a champ no problems and is only $15. Highly recommend it!

Mine was getting the HDMI logo at the top but no output I was useing the USB OWM rezound wall plug that came with he phone. Well I used a better one i had here and now HDMI out works great... It just will not work with the HTC rezound wall plug power.. even works off of my PC's usb power just not the OEM one.

HDMI Mirroring

I ordered the MHL adaptor from T-Mobile's website yesterday, so I should get it today (yeah, I paid the extra $6 for overnight shipping).
Does this phone support FULL mirroring (i.e., when plugged in to TV, TV screen mirrors whatever is on the phone's screen)? I used the full HDMI app on my Evo 4G, and it was great for watching shows from HBO GO on my TV.
Has anyone tried it yet? If not, is there a review out there somewhere that specifically demonstrates this feature?
I guess I'll know tonight when I get home from work!
Thanks,
Rob
I haven't seen it specifically on this phone, but I've seen the Qualcomm MSM8660 demos showing full mirroring. We should be capable of it, but I haven't tried it out yet.
I'm surprised nobody's tried it yet!
Can you use the normal micro HDMI or do you have to buy the adapter to use HDMI? Lol kinda confused how this works with the new port? Could anyone explain? Thanks
You need to buy an adaptor. Basically, it's a dongle that plugs into the USB (charger) on the E3D. The dongle/adaptor has a HDMI port on it, along with a USB port. You plug an HDMI cable into the HDMI port, and into the TV. You plug a charger into the USB port and into the wall.
So no, the HDMI cable from the EVO 4G (I have one too) won't work.
Does that help?

Back to the issue at hand... does it do HDMI mirroring or not? I have this bad ass HDMI integration in my Prius that is preventing me from upgrading from the 4G until at least HDMI mirroring is confirmed.

According to this demo from CTIA it appears it can, but this is unfinished testing hardware/firmware so it's still not a confirmation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ynmqtopi9g
This doesn't exactly give you an answer with the level of certainty you are looking for but it's a good sign. We should see some end users with feedback on HDMI features on the production phone streaming in any time now that hopefully confirms that it can do this across any application without problems or limitations.

hey rtmeikle . I also got the mhl from tmobile. I hooked it up last night to sadly find out that hdmi mirroring is not supported at all. It was all a big hype it appears. Were you able to get it working? I'm hoping that you were so maybe its just my device....if not, then this phone is going back.
Yep, I got mine yesterday and tested it. It works fine.
You have to have the adaptor plugged in to the phone, a charger plugged to the adaptor, and the HDMI cable running from the phone to the TV.
I got full HDMI mirroring which automatically switched to landscape when I tested Netflix and HBO Go.

Strange. The image of my home screen just popped up on my TV; I didn't have to do anything.
I tested it on the TV in my bedroom, a 3-yr-old Samsung 42" Plasma, nothing fancy.
Maybe tonight I'll test it on my other two TVs and see if it works on all of them.
did you allow the latest OTA upgrade or did you cancel it? I allowed it as soon as I turned the phone on. I also tried it on my 58 samsung plasma hdtv. Its not that old but also not that new.
I'm going to try it tonight on my smaller 32 inch lcd hd tv to see if that makes a difference. It shouldn't though.
Not like it matters since all MHL cables are the same but here is the MHL adapter I'm using: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns...4ec1-a08e-e133fa772d53&inCart=True&catCode=23

This is what I am currently doing. I have hooked up the following.
Mouse: Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000
Keyboard: Logitech MX5500 Keyboard
The keyboard works great. I can type in the applications and setup my keys in the emulators just fine (snesoid etc)
Mouse functionality though is different then you may expect. You don't get a mouse cursor, it just "highlights" selections then you "left click" to go forward. According to my research the right mouse button is supposed to "go back" but is not working for me.
I put up a thread asking others for help with it, so if I find an answer I will let you know.
Updating you on what I found out about the mouse.
"Well it looks like the fancy mouse support with a cursor and button functionality was something that was included in CyanogenMod 6.X then removed on CyanogenMod 7.
They then added a patch for version 7. But now apparently it is being included in his latest CyanogenMod.
Regardless, it appears you need root access "

the adapter has a USB plug that you use to hook up to a charger, and will charge your phone. Newer TVs are coming that will support charging over HDMI via the MHL adapter, there may be some out but I think will be a standard in 2012 TVs.

[Q] Monoprice HDMI MHL Adapter Doesn't work

I bought the HDMI MHL Adapter from Monoprice, great price and stuff, but it doesn't seem to work right. For one the power cord doesn't fit good in the HDMI MHL Adapter, it seems like it can't go in far enough to snap and hold so it falls out a lot. Also it took many tries of unplugging and plugging in the phone to get it to work with it. It also has frozen my phone quite a few times, especially if I have the HDMI MHL Adapter hooked up and someone tries to call me. I bought this phone because I wanted to be able to play my movies on friends TVs when I go over their house, but this just doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone else have experience with the Monoprice HDMI MHL Adapter?
I think I'm just gonna buy the one from Samsung.

Silly question: I bought a similar one from newegg, but I don't know how to get it to work. For example I'm watching a youtube video on the phone, how do I make it output to the TV? (Of course I had it connected to it through an HDMI cable).
I got mine in the mail last night and it works just fine.
The regular samsung usb cable connected without problems.
Make sure to connect the power on the adaptor before connecting it to the phone.

[Q] MHL HDMI out on Honeycomb?

I've searched on the flyer forum quite extensively, and there's talk of HDMI cables and so on, but nothing about HDMI working on the latest HC OTA.
Has anyone tried this out yet? If so, has it worked for you?
In my experience (tried with two TV's) nothing is coming up on the TV.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
Works fine on HC, as always the MHL box is required to interface and the box requires external USB power.

Doesn't seem to matter. I've used probably 6 or 7 different power adapters with no problem and also powered it from my PC usb port. As long as it supplies 5v @ at least 500 ma, the same as a standard USB , it should be fine. My favorite is a 4 port 2amp wall wart I got for $5 at a "5 Below" discount store.

[Q] Help! Micro USB to HDMI on HTC Amaze

I recently purchased a "ikross USB to HDMI" adapter on amazon, supposedly supported by the HTC Amaze. However, when i plug the adapter in connected to my TV(s), nothing happens on the phone or tv.
Im guessing I need some kind of 'drivers' on the phone to enable this feature.
Also, my problem might be stemming from the fact that i am running Beastmod v2.2.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for these adapters?
Thanks

Mhl uses micro USB, so you don't need a special port on the adapter.
My guess for op is that it might be the ROM. I use bullet proof, and my Mhl to hdmi adapter works fine.
Final, try making a backup of your current ROM, flash a ROM with sense, and try again.
Edit: Also, this should be in accessories

Huh I figured cause if you look in the port beyond the USB there are other pins I figured it requires a special plug to reach those pins

The port on the Amaze is a proprietary HTC design, called EXTUSB. It allows the device to get more power while charging, but it is also backwards compatible with microusb cables.

I got one of those, and it works IF you also plug a USB charging cable separately into the adapter - thanks for the stupid design HTC.
In order to do the hdmi out can you use a miniusb or does the adapter have to have the extusb?
Edit:
Also if I am reading this right you need a TV with the MHL chip in it for this to work:

All wrong. A simple Google will show you that EXTUSB was the port HTC used in the days of the T-Mo Wing, G1, and myTouch 3G.
The miniHDMI connector does NOT fit the Amaze. I wish I knew what our port was called... I'll report in if I can find it. But I know it's not EXTUSB
I recently bought Cable Matters Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter from Amazon. I have had success using it on stock phone, quicksense v3.0.0 and currently beastmod 2.3.0.
Just to set the record clear. The port on the Amaze 4G is called an MHL connector. It's not a proprietary HTC port, but a seemingly new industry standard. Just search wikipedia for MHL and you can read all about it.
Punchline is that you get a single port that can output HDMI and connect via USB in one go. Supposedly with the proper adapter your phone will charge while connected to an HDMI source. You can definitely use a standard micro USB cable on the MHL port if you just need to charge or connect to a computer via USB.
The one I bought, the power cable must be attached.

That's what Mr. Moo is getting at. MHL ports allows simultaneous output and charging; though I'm not sure they both need to be connected for either to work.
In my experience, the MHL with power connected doesn't really charge the phone. My battery still drains slowly while connected. Is that just me?

HTC calls the port ExtMicro USB. It's backwards compatible with Micro-USB plugs (the five leads on the flange you see on the front), but the proprietary plug has 12 pins total.
I was getting intermittent performance with a Micro-USB MHL-HDMI adapter, and had to have a Micro-USB charger attached.
The HTC adapter for the Amaze (and Flyer, and Rezound) is AC-M500, a 12-pin adapter with HDMI-out, Audio-out (3.5mm) and an ExtMicro USB port. I have pics of these on WikiMedia, and in a thread in the Rezound section.
I wish I could tell you what the 7 additional leads do that a conventional MHL-HDMI adapter doesn't ... and HTC isn't talking. (US Tech Support couldn't even confirm the that the port is different, only the recommended adapter.) aLogCat recorded some HDCP messages when I connected the phone with this adapter to a Dell ST2410 24" monitor that's been reported for not supporting HDCP-controlled HDMI video. When I connected my Amaze to a Samsung T27A300 1080P HDTV, it worked fine.

Why do I need charger power for Samsung MHL Adaptor?

I was under the impression that Note 3 supported MHL 2.0 but when I plug in the official HDTV adapter from Samsung (model number ET-H10FAUWEGWW) I still need to also use a USB charger to get it to show through the HDMI input on my TV?
If I don't I get a continual on-screen message on the phone "HDMI cable connected/disconnected" flashing/cycling until I plug-in the Micro USB charger cable on the side of the HDTV adapter.
Any thoughts appreciated
Your TV would have to have the MHL adapter which would mean you would have had to buy it most likely this year. If you are just plugging it into a regular HDMI slot there is not power available this is why you need to hook up the adapter.

I believe you may have ended up getting a copycat adapter (A 1.0 instead of a 2.0), not official. I recently purchased a MHL 2.0 off amazon for $10 and it works just plugging in the tv hdmi without power. The one I got isn't a samsung one, but it is compatible with samsungs (11-pin I believe). The tv I'm plugging into is an OLD tv (got it when hdmi was just coming out) and it works without using an external source- also working fine on my newer tvs. I believe the power for MHL 2.0 is suppose to come from your phone so the tv shouldn't be the problem.

You definitely do not need an MHL input when using this adapter. The whole point of the adapter is to go from MHL (the Note 3 output) to HDMI (the TV input). If you have an MHL input on your TV or receiver all you need is a cable (basically what's in the white box is built into your TV already).
I second the opinion that you got a knock-off. I have both adapters from Samsung and neither of them need external power to operate with a Note 3.
The only restriction with the MHL 2.0 adapter is that it requires that you plug it into a TV and not a receiver, and it will tell you in no uncertain terms if you don't plug it in correctly.
The only reason to plug in power is that it stops your battery draining so fast, the charger provides about 700mA charging current to the N3.

Could you post a link to the seller you got yours from, or PM me with the info if XDA doesn't allow that? I'd like to get one myself, and like that you have already tried and had good results with yours.

Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/VicTsing-Micr...e=UTF8&qid=1384305065&sr=8-4&keywords=mhl+2.0
Fair warning though; this adapter is not perfect by any means, you can read my review on amazon (the one that tested it out on the note 3). As noted in my review, I am still waiting on a replacement one (since the original one I got functioned but didn't charge when I hooked up my power adapter), and I'll let you guys know if it's better once I receive it. Even though it doesn't function perfectly, for $10 dollars it does the trick.
Edit: They are sending me an extra without having to return the original, so even if the second one doesn't charge, at $5 a pop I'm happy.

Thanks for alerting me to the counterfeit reasoning that shows this part must be a copycat, I contacted the supplier of this part to us for a partial refund as I will use this as a backup and try and buy an original and prices drop from the £39 or take advice of the other replies in this thread and find a genuine 2.0 MHL non-Samsung version. I'll report back if I have any trouble with the supplier claiming that it is a genuine part and see how far eBay support me.

Thanks babyshanks and CraigAmey for clarifying and also confirming that I don't need it new TV to take advantage of MHL 2.0's not requirement for external USB power. As I said in my previous reply and with this information and going back to the supplier on eBay to us for a partial refund as I will keep this version of the adapter until prices come down from the genuine parts for fine art genuine MHL 2.0 adapter non-Samsung version.

I've read that you need to plug into a TV but haven't had problems. But I am using a samsung mhl 1.0 with 11pin adapter. Didn't need power also. Waiting for Samsung to get on the ball so I can buy a genuine mhl 2 from them.

I bought the Samsung one before it went out of stock and it works in any HDMI input also without the need to plug it to the power outlet, but I'm sure a full HD movie will drain the battery fast..

I think for the price of the official one your better off just getting a wireless dongle, unless you plan to game with it.
Hi guys, here's the response from the eBay seller, "These items were purchased From Kondor Ltd who are one of the major UK Distributors of Samsung Accessories. I would be extremely surprised if they sold fake stock and risked losing there multi-million contract with Samsung over some cheap fake stock. I can only assume the item received has a manufacturing fault of some sort as this is the first problem we have encountered for this product sorry.", so as you can imagine I'm beginning to think there my be a fault with my phone if this message is to be believed, what do you guys think?

The MHL 1.0 adapter doesn't care what it's plugged into, only the MHL 2.0 adapter has that issue.
I just bought a mhl cable through amazon. It has the USB connector for the phone on one side, and a HDMI connector on the other. Directly attached to the HDMI connector is a regular USB plug which I plugged into my power source for my phone (as this is how I understood it should work).
I don't get any messages on my phone that indicate that it is connected to my TV/Monitor and my phone also doesn't indicate that it's charging.
What I read from the product description was, that connecting this cable to my power source would also charge the phone. So could it be my phone is charging, even if the battery indicator doesn't say so? Like it would be charging just so much as that my phone doesn't drain? Or should it clearly indicate that the battery gets charged. Befor knowing this, I'm hestitant to send the cable back as defective.
Can any one advise?
Thanks

The phone should indicate it is charging as it normally would.

Thanks. I really appreciate your straight answer
I'll be sending the cable back. I wouldn't bother too much if it wouldn't supply the full resolution and such, but I'd at least would expect some output on my TV.

You're welcome.
I love using MHL, but I really wish there weren't several varieties of MHL cables (5-pin, 11-pin, 1.0 and 2.0) and also such a large number of fakes and very low quality ones out there. Makes buying difficult, as all these threads about MHL demonstrate.
Does anyone know if you can physical see whether you have a 5 pin or 11 pin MHL 2.0?
