[Q] App Wikidroyd closing after waiting on A70 - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I installed the app wikidroyd.
On my Hannspad (similar to advent vega) WD is running fine.
On my A70 the app is closing after opening an article and waiting a few minutes.
This does not happen on my Hannspad.
Could the lowmemkiller settings be the problem?
They are on stock settings (Urukdroid 1.5.1)
compcache and swap both off.
PS:
I havent been around here for long.
Has UD advanced much since 1.5.1?
Is an upgrade advisable?

Archos 101 extremely slow?

I just received my Archos 101 yesterday, and after loading a few apps, some music/video on the external sd card, froyo, and LauncherPro, the tablet is extremely slow - to the point where it's not as 'responsive' as it used to be. Has anyone found anything (e.g. lagfix) that makes it a bit faster? I want to love this tablet because of the hell I had to go through with Amazon to get it, but it's really making me pissed off as of lately. Any help would be great - thanks in advance.
install os monitor, sort processes by cpu load and tell us if anything is eating all the CPU
http://www.appbrain.com/app/os-monitor/com.eolwral.osmonitor
I noticed the same thing on my A70. I switched from Launcher Pro to ADW launcher and it's noticably smoother without uninstalling anything else.
Why does os monitor show it is using 40% of my cpu?
Go to Settings / About Device
Register and upgrade your firmware to 2.0.71.
Go To Settings / About Device Power Management /
click on Overdrive
Go To Settings / Repair & formating / calibrate touch screen and accelerometer
do a google searck for gAppsinstaller_v4.apk
keep clicking untill it is installed on your device.
You will now have full google market.
Go to google market - Get Dolphin Browser - make it your default
go to google market - get vplayer beta to play all flash and other videos
recomended google market - get videos
google market - i music
Should be flying now - If running slow - go to desktop - click on system monitor - stop all programs - should be flying again -
tip - firefox is really slow and crashes?? dont install
When using touch screen never push hard - A light quick brushing action works best - or a light quick tap - always light on your fingertips -
tip - do not try to root - not necessary with overdrive setting - full root will come someday. No root is working right now for this firmware.
Good luck
David
i almost forgot
dont forget to go to android market and download and install adobe flash.
Try to erase all Mediafiles and reboot.
If your A101 is faster then you have a File that breaks the mediascanner.
Also if you are still on 2.1 the Mediascanner is running at every boot and scanns every file.
This has been fixed with the last FW.
Alright I did everything you guys have recommended and it is signficantly faster now. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't realize how sensitive the screen is compared to my Captivate. Also, is there any point in setting the cpu to 1000mhz using z4root/setcpu? (haven't been able to get that to work anyways, z4mod just freezes).
I got my Arcos 101 about a week ago and noticed the horrible sluggishness too. I tried doing the firmware update to Froyo and it was still sluggish. I'm now sure exactly what the option was called, but after the Froyo update, I went into settings and did a full format on the device. It reloaded everything from scratch, but I lost all of the 3rd party apps. So I called Archos and they pointed me to ftp://support.archos.com. There is a file called A101 HDD Contents.zip Just download it and unzip the folders. In one of the folders is the Archos customizations (apk files). Just install whatever programs you want and you will be back in business.
One other thing, you will need to set your CPU speed to Performance to get the 1ghz speed. The 2.0.71 build downclocks the cpu to 800mhz.
Oh, and I'm in the same boat with not being able to Root my device. Please z4root creator, fix this.
@dijitalm:
You don't need root for 1Ghz as you can easily set this in the normal settings.
And before you try again, neither z4root nor any other sw that uses rageagainstthecage is working.
The main reason I need root is to get my Tablet to see Ad-Hoc Networks. Specifically I have WIFI Router on my phone and my laptop sees/connects to the phone fine, but the tablet will not see the access point. I know that there are fixes for this that people have come up with but it requires root access.
Oh, and I have a Windows based phone (Touch Pro 2), so I can't get the bluetooth tethering option to work either.

Hmm. Others have gotten WM phones to work with BT tethering.
When I try to associate the Archos 101, they attempt to pair and then my phone says "it (the tablet) doesn't have any services that we are interested in". That statement on my phone is so enfuriating because I'll be the judge of what services I'm interested in having my phone use. My old XV6800 (Titan) did bluetooth tethering like a charm, and if it were still alive, I'd even consider going back to it.
Yup I'd be happy non rooting it if I could just get tethering to work.

I tried what is on post #5 here and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10022941&postcount=4
so far, the combination of both things have made a big difference in the performance of my A70. It's a pretty smooth experience now.
ADW and Launcher Pro
I'm glad my help with Launcher Pro helped you. I installed the new ADW Launcher EX yesterday. I will have to say, It is faster depending on the settings. I used the "Fast" [reset profile. Right off the bat it was flying faster than launcher pro. I would suggest that launcher now that it has been revamped.

[q] (q)how to prevent your folio from freezing or crashing

Hi everyone i was just wondering if anyone has some kind idea on how we can prevent our folio from freezing or crashing my folio doesnt last 2 hours before crashing witch would end if i reboot it or freezing for about 12 secondes any minute
i am using folio 1.3d
please help me ..............
Thanks in advance.
Exact same here, but we're probably not the only ones, and I guess they're still working on it...
I'm wondering if the FolioMod 1.3d default task manager is a good one? The memory value shown seems to decrease very fast...
(I don't know a lot, I bought my Folio (first android device) 5 days ago... I'm sorry if this is a stupid post)...

if it is like you saying. That memory keeps decreasing so fast it's noticible. The it could be a memoryleak somewhere in toshibas launcher/or what ever it runs from toshiba.
Could you verify this somehow?
Because I'm about to by this insanely device

Task managers only do harm on android, messing up the process lifecycle. I've never had memory ran out on me, ever. Not on nexus one, nor any other device.
My folio seems to be quite stable. 2 crashes all day and i've installed dozens of apps and tested all kinds of things. Just uninstalled all of toshibas extra apps with titanium backup to see how that affects the device.
By removing all the toshiba apps (except for the file manager) it seems that the folio gets more stable...
Right now the task manager tells me it has 94MB memory left, (I just booted it, and almost did nothing with it, and there are about 15 (not heavy) apps running atm)... when I kill all of them it says I have 128MB left...
It's the app that's just not properly written, or it's a real issue?
Mine has an uptime of 18 hours and 235MB of RAM available. After reboot it has about 317MB with launcherPro and a dozen widgets active.
RAM isn't very crucial on android since it manages memory more efficiently than Windows OS. Using task killers isn't adviced.
My tablet also freezes as hell. I believe that some of this could be due it to some applications, but thread a process managment could be a lot better.
Download task killer.
After reboot i have 250mg free. When i kill apps(10-20) i have 320mg avaiable. After that i go to settings-applications-running services and kill some apps that i don't want to be running in the background.

Task killers are of no use on Android especially with this much RAM in a device. It isn't crashing due to low RAM.

[DEV][UTIL]App to Kill the Mediaserver

Here is an app that will kill the mediaserver. The mediaserver will automatically restart. If you nook is running kind of sluggish, then use this to see how much CPU it is using. I wrote this for Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 and I don't know if it will work with anything else, but it shouldn't hurt anything if you try. It also allows you to see the PID of the mediaserver, reboots the nook, view mediaserver's CPU usage. Let me know what you think of it. If the demand is there, I will make it into a package. Must be a rooted nook! Let me know what os this works with.
Thanks Brian,
I just tried it out and it works well. Much easier than copy/pasting that script into the terminal emulator!
It would be cool if it could be automated to automatically kill on a timed basis like once every 1/2/3 hours or whatever.
Thanks for the efforts.
Great app works good! Thanks a ton!
Sent from my Nook Color.
Let me know if you are running it on NF or HC?
Nice app.
Is this the same as freezing via TitaniumBackup?
Im using NF
Idk if this was needed in CM7(phiremod) but I installed it anyways and it seems to be working
Thanks Brian,
I needed this with phiremor nook Beta 2 to kill audio when I quit YouTube. The Kill Mediaserver option did the job.
The phiremor nook Beta 2 froyo uses a nice looking virtual keyboard. I am new to this, what would I have to do to install this with your SD card version of froyo?
Just thought ide add to this I'm on the SGS2 i777 and it works on cm9
Is this for the MediaScanner or the MediaServer or are they both one in the same?

Any Turbo 10.1 Tab Tips?

I've been running Overcome 2.3.1 for awhile now and I'm interested in possibly overclocking and/or using the V6 memory hack but I have reservations. I'm wondering what you guys are using that's stable to accomplish speeding up your tabs. I read about certain problems with Flash while using Pershoot's kernel and I haven't really found any substantial info on overclocking. I own SetCPU and have done it before but not sure what kernels support it on the 10.1. Fired it up on my Tab and it kept crashing and while changing the governor worked not much else was.
I'm not against changing ROMs to accomplish this but I'm not interested in buggy crap aka non-working camera/gps/usb charging.
Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.
update- installing pershoot's last hc kernel and then I'm going to try v6 - - any advice on what hacks boost performance the most besides OCing?
V6 isn't a hack. Its a script that modifys memory settings to increase settings. However, just run through the initial startup of V6 and it should automatically calculate the settings your tablet needs. Once that is done, you should also install the nitro lag nullifer (option 11 possibly) from the V6 script.
Also, task's v14 ROM is very stable and has few or no bugs and includes pershoots kernel. My wife uses it and she doesn't have any problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at Task. V6 is next on my list.
**update** I see that V6 is in Task so extra thanks. Trying Task Full now.
I'm running Pershoot's latest hc kernel (january) and so far it's nice. Only issue is when forcing OC to 1400 all the time. If I do that the system's camera won't load at all. 3rd party cameras work fine though.
Can't believe how fast and stable it is at 1400. Any lag I had before is gone. I was beginning to think many apps had memory leaks since I still had occasional lags using Overcome but OCing has made that disappear. Kinda shocked battery life isn't impacted at all either. Samsung really dropped the ball with the software on this tablet.
Not seeing the bump in HD mkv video decoding using BSPlayer that I expected.
Just a heads up- hack means modify, among other things. For some it implies some type of negative action but many people don't view it that way anymore.
No problem. And when I think hack, I usually think about something that isn't executed very cleanly and half-ass work-arounds are necessary for it to work (e.g. hack-job)

Yeah like the ROM Samsung released for our tabs. Then there's the half-assed professional meaning. Example - Those hack devs at Samsung.
So far I'm liking Task 14. Spent most of my time trying to defeat the media scanner bug. Tomorrow I'm gonna get on V6 unless the script is already operating.

Archos 70IT keeps freezing

Hello,
It has been a while since I bought my archos 70IT and since the beginning, it kept freezing a lot, I had to kill all the apps every 2 minutes...
So I didn't really use it but now I want to use it again. I have installed Urukdroid because I thought maybe I could solve this problem by lowing the memory level where the device kills the apps... But know, the problem appears even more often than before... I don't know what to do... Sometimes it freezes when I use the menu, or when I'm on Google Play or when I use some apps, I don't think there is a specific trigger, only the memory. It is the 250MB hard drive model.
The screens stops and I can't do anything but reset the device.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you.
Please do yourself a favor and read the UrukDroid threads.
It is clearly stated that UD isn't really suited for the hd versions of the tablet, as it is installed on the HD, not the internal sd, wich means everytime the hd powers down the os is stalled, or the hd can't power down.
The only thing you can try is the orginal fw.
Wich Apps did you install?
I installed the market with arctools but the device froze even before it.
I also remember the device freezing when I transefered some media with the USB connection, before I installed UD.
If I shouldn't use UD, what is the best way to be root then? I mean, on a HD device.
Thanks!
The only chance you have might be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930197
Check there if it is working with the A70H.
I don't even have my A70S anymore to check it ( moved to Ainol Novo 7 Elf II ).
P.S.:
Is there always a trafficjam on saturday afternoon around toulouse?
Drove by last saturday and it was bad ( not as bad as lyon though , but...)
Thanks but I think I will stay not rooted and without installing google play and google apps. It's not as good as it could but it seems to work better...
By the way, does anyone know a good calendar app available on appslib? To import calendars by url.
PS: Yeah, the Toulouse traffic is really bad! That's the main drawback of this city I think...
