I im thinking about getting this phone and was wondering if you can flash ROM's from the international version of the samsung galaxy s II, i know that on my inspire 4G i can flash desire HD ROM's, thank you.
Not yet 100%, but it's on the way. It's called Hellraiser. Go check out it's thread in the dev section.

Many I9100 roms can be flashed using Entropy512's ROM Hellraiser for I777. Check out the thread in the development forum.
as said use the hellraiser just make sure its a samsung rom otherwise it won't work completely if i remember correctly
thank ya'll very much it seams very interesting
Yeah, CM7-derived ROMs can't be Hellraised - but we already have native CM7.
All the different ROMs that I have tried (Criskelo, CheckRom, Sensation, Villain) have worked fairly well with the Hellraiser package. There are supposedly a few small problems which didn't really effect me at all but will be ironed out eventually.

What phones would be good candidates to port roms from to use on the fascinate?
I was bored yesterday and tried to port a rom from the samsung epic. My logic is sprint and verizon are both cdma.
Anyhow I got a rom to boot, however i cant get the phone to make calls. Most everything else in the rom works, I tried loading otb kernel on it, that did not help.
I have been using the kitchen package that is in the android chef forums.
maybe the epic 4g would be good?

you will encounter serious issues without heavily editing the rom...many apks will work between sgs phones, but libs/drivers/other files wont without merging a lot of stuff
I found a rom for mezmerize, Heinz 57 rom, was able to port that and have it running, Did a Miui from epic 4g, and that one has the phone not making or receiving calls, looks like most of the mezmerize roms are ported from here.

Generally if you give credit to the creator it's fine. Most of our stuff came from the fascinate side anyway. The heinz 57 rom is well done and is using a lot of the tsm stuff.

There's a working ICS port for Samsung Epic 4G Touch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1475359
The phone is similar to the AT&T SGS2. Wondering if any developers out there can work their magic and port this to the AT&T SGS2 phone? It would be great to see this working on our device!
The answer is we do have ics. Just go to the i9100 forums and flash cm9 if your that desperate. In call audio does not work and the back button and search key don't work.
And btw this has been discussed many times
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
For that matter the Galaxy Nexus is pretty close too...
Why cant the DEV's figure out how to use the code from it???
Damnit - here we go again....
We don't have ICS because we don't have epic 4G touches.

No, the Epic 4G Touch does not have working ICS - that build could not be considered working or functional by any measure, just look at the list of things that are broken.
If you took an I9100 ICS release and flashed it on the I777 with no modifications, it would be more usable than that E4GT release.
Edit: FYI, that massive list of epic brokenness is the result of trying to make a 2.6.35.x kernel compatible with ICS on an Exynos device - it looks quite similar to what was listed as broken on I9100 CM9 before they moved to initramfs repacks of the leaked kernel binaries.

I'm sorry but this question has been bothering me for sometime. I have googled this question but have had no luck. What is the main reason there aren't a lot of custom roms like the international one has? I know our device is newer so I'm just simply asking. This isn't a complaint, ETA or a rant, its simply a question. I know when the atrix came out there were some pseudo roms out until the bootloader became unlocked and then the floodgates opened. Will most of the international roms make it over to this phone eventually. I'm sorry in advanced if this question has been asked before but I really tried to find it first.
the international phone uses a different chipset than this one so no none of the roms will work. the reason we dont have so many roms is because we dont have as many devs as everyone else does (my opinion) but this phone isnt that greatly wanted because of its size so we may never have a lot of roms. the ones we do have are great we just need more themes to go with them. you can port a rom from the skyrocket or t-mobile gs2 if you would like to. im currently running t-mobile ics rom now
Im hoping that theres lot of roms to come but what do i know. The phone is great, not sure why its not popular, yea its big but still sick.

I believe someone tried to flash a skyrocket rom to their note... didn't end well.
The moral of the story is: you can't.
Edit: unless you port it (something not so easy), as smartguy044 said.
You have to change a few files but it works. Im using tmobile rom with everything working great and a theme for the skyrocket

How did you do it? Which ROM and what changes did you have to make? There's a considerable difference in displaybresolution, so I'm curious as to how you did it.

Eh. The main reason is because this phone is so new. It hasn't even been out for 2 months. Thats not long in the dev community. Hell, it took like 6 months just to unlock the bootloader on my atrix and even longer for ROMs. With ICS rolling out and the note gaining traction, you will see an abundance of dev help in the coming months

I agree that the Note is "wanted", which will eventually be great for future rom development. However, the figure is 5 million sold globally since the global version's release, not just the US market.

Better than I expected.
We just had a few new dev's join our team, announcement of upcoming cm9, ics release... i'd say we're in pretty good shape for some solid roms coming very soon.
I know this is probobly a noob question but I was looking to install the new leaked ICS on my AT&T SG2 and wanted to know which of the 3 different versions I should be installing.

Newest is always assumed to be the best; however, the reliability and functionality of the modems vary by your location. What may work exceptionally well for me could produce lackluster results for you. Your best bet is to try them out for yourself. Flashing them is easy enough.
Good luck.
Thank you for your help!
I was also attracted to the leaked packages, until I realized:
Leaks have even less quality and effort put in, compared to the horrible firmware actually released. They're just early.
The leaks may be some android version, but they've been mangled by Samsung AND AT&T. Vanilla is now my only flavor...
(maybe the leaked nature of the leaks is appealing in itself? Makes you feel like you're getting one up on "the system"? BYPASS the system with CM9!)
All 3 of the leaks work well for me. UCLD3 is GREAT and I will run it until another leak (or an official release) comes along.
With that said...no ROM is perfect.
You will have the most choices and dev support using ported firmwares that are originally developed and others ported work.

I've heard of people doing what I described, so there's gotta be a way...
4.3 doesn't exist for the SGH-I717 in fully functioning form yet. The only "release" I've seen was from JamieD and he pointed out right up front that the sound did not work on that ROM. I flashed it and ran it for a while and it was very smooth but not ready yet. Won't be long though so hang in there a little while, there are a lot of us waiting for 4.3!

Ok cool, so what do I do to upgrade to the latest stable ROM and change the modem software so that it works on Wind?
When you say "stable", it can be interpreted in different ways.
The absolute rock-steady stable will be stock-based ROMs, like blackjelly and Padawan.
If you mean "stable enough" for a daily use, you can use any of the 4.2.2 roms. You will have to research and read to find out what is working and what isn't. For me personally, I am using uXylon rom with Uber kernel. Mostly stable, except reboots occasionally.
And you will have to find a modem and flash it separately. I believe you will need to flash a t-mobile modem, but I am not sure. You can search the forum to see if anyone else has done it before. I am sure it was asked before.
thought i would chime in since some people are giving extremely bogus information and should just not comment.
the only difference between the Telus i717d, Rogers i717r, Bell i717m and the ugly one of the bunch the ATT i717*I HATE PHONE BRANDING!* is the bloat loaded onto the phone and the firmware/baseband versions
every single rom in this section will work on every single i717, it may react different on some as not all phones are made identical but in everyday terms they are the same phone...
even the modems are interchangeable between all of them, i run an unlocked att i717 with telus modem, before that i had an i717m and ran telus modem.
