[Q] Hard bricked my O1? - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi!
I think I hard bricked my Optimus One. I had to recover the original firmware with the KDZ tool and the tool crashed during the installation of the original firmware.
Now my device isn't booting anymore, which means the display remains black, no matter if I try to start the emergency mode or anything else.
Is there anything I can try or should I get myself a new phone for christmas?

Haha, considering your nickname the sentence "nomen est omen" makes a lot more sense
I already looked around a bit and I couldn't find any alternatives to the O1 in the same price segment. I'll try to contact the LG support, maybe they can help me. Because it's chrismas time..

is it in warranty... if it is then go to lg service center and the PCB will be replaced for free...... i had bricked my pone once and got the PCB replaced......
dont tell te service centre people that you used the "KDZ TOOL"..... just tell them that its stop working while official update or say you dont know it just stopped working.....
they will never know what you did to the phone..... believe me..... dont worry....

Yes, that's what I found out after some research too. Thanks for giving me hope

did you get it working back?
or you bought a new one ?

As a last resort, try charging your battery.. If that too fails, then I guess you should get yourself a new phone. HTC Explorer seems to be good option in the same price segment..

1 thing is that I hve tried every possible tactic from the book before writing this read every site on google related to unbricking and trying to learn everything about replacements. everything points to hopless options.
If IPhone can unbrick itself i'm sure we can get this working Duh !
However everytime I remove and insert rapidly the battrey, i can see the screen flashing and the red light blicks along with it.
I cant seem to get it stabalized to get into the boot menu...
I'm willing to donate the phone to find jtag however i'd like to learn it myself any tips on how to find the jtag points ?
Question 2
When you say Bricked, I know that the only option left is to replace the motherboard, however what i'd like to know is, Can some1 please explain wht does it exactly mean when people say Bricked ?, which part of the board is not working so that I can get the Chips replaced. Can we take this as an option, yes ?

You can bring a bricked G4 back to life..sort of. Go to eBay and find a working Wizard with broken screen or cracked up case or something so it's cheap. Take the motherboard out of that one and replace the one in your phone and you're back in business! I did it with my last bricked G4 and got a bonus when I discovered the used phone I bought was a G3 (practically un-brickable!..until I broke the LCD!)

Ahhhh Please Help! Bricked i think ??

Help I updated my radio for vilain rom 10 and i thought something was wrong when i saw the phone and the box so i pulled out my battery and it wont turn on
That picture i normal when you flash a radio.
Never pull out the battery at that state. I Think its bricked
Yes sorry it's bricked
Sorry to hear, If you can get the phone to give you any sort of life then it is not bricked, just on vacation.
But if not you could always put your phone to good use.
Sorry i could'nt resist.

Well if you ever come beck then try this. If you haven't already installed the drivers for your phone onto your computer do it now. Plug your phone into your your computer do you get a light or try to plug it into charger if you get a light it's not bricked. What you want to do if it's not bricked is run a ruu on it.
No Light :'(
Would htc cover this and send a replacment or will i need to buy a new phone ?
Telling them you tried using custom ROMs wouldn't get a repair,... You could say you were just doing a "restore to factory settings" and your battery died. Its worth a try.
Okay thAnks i migjt try and say it ran out of battery updating to the new 2.1 because personaly i think its slughtly mire belivable what do you think, also just in case i was looking for new android phines kind of off topic here but has anyone seen the samsung beam i mean wow its a projector shame i hate the ui and xda doesnt have it
Oh also i forgot is there anything to unbrick it , like a pandoras battery and magic mem stick ( dw if youvdont know what it is.but it csn be used to unbrick a psp and works even though i went through six psp s in a year lol
Yes say that once it is officially released for your region.
You could check the dream and magic forums to see if they ever recover any bricked handsets?

Never Rooted Can't Boot Up

My dad's Optimus T supposedly can't boot up after he took out the battery and the device has been never rooted or anything(stock). I can't take a look at the phone to see whats wrong, but I'm preparing for the worst and want to know how to flash stock rom with kdz to maybe get it back up and running. I found the KDZ file and I am wondering what else I would need besides that? I've never done this before and looking for advice. Also, my parents never bought warranty so do you think TMO will replace it because it was never rooted and it also has the dust problem. So would they replace it since it is defective product, but then again it's been a few months since we bought it.
Thanks.

well to be frankily honest with you, get yourself a job and start buying your own phones so that you can get warranties and insurance on your phone's also yes check with TMO about replacing the phone, no sense in using a utility like KDZ if you know nothing about it, I cant help you with KDZ, ive never had to use it and never will, but Im pretty sure there are tons of threads that can point you in the right direction

It wasn't my decision to buy warranty or not and this isn't my phone. I'm using KDZ as a last resort so I'm not 100% set on it. Going to see what TMO can do first, but I don't have any hopes that they will do anything.

well good luck to you on that, if you need any help, let me know and Ill try to get some info for you on w/e you need, keep me updated as to how KDZ works for you, I have no need for it but Im to damn lazy to actually do the research for a tool I wont use, the only problem I had was one phone I "accidently" semi-bricked, but was under warranty so I got it replaced and now my second phone is rooted, customed recovery and CM7 rom on it
If you haven't had a chance to take a look at the phone yet, then maybe you can start with that and trying something simple like taking out the battery, putting it back in, connecting the charger, and trying to turn on the phone? Then you can see what's going on. Maybe you'll want to try holding Power + Vol. down + Home to go into recovery from a turned off state. Keep in mind that stock recovery immediately begins its restore which (I think - custom recoveries spoil us) wipes user content.

Well, it's strange how it happened because this phone is completely stock and my dad or I never did anything to change anything to it. I really don't think it would get bricked just by removing the battery out.. I'll just have to wait until he gets back with the phone.
UPDATE: All phones have a 1 year warranty if something wrong with the phone so TMO took the phone in and sending a new one on the way.
Wait, so did you get a chance to look at it, or did someone else take it to TMO?

[Q] Need urgent help!! A SW (or a virus) can damage the HW of a Xperia Neo???

Hi, I need urgent help!!
I have buy a new Xperia Neo (for about 300 euro) , the phone perfectly works, but wen I try to update it with Pc companion and SEUS, it says me that the phone have a modified SW.
I'm sure I haven't do nothing like flash, root,..
I go to the shop were I buy it and they send my phone at the Sony assistence.
The assistance find a problem: that the software was bad modified, and says me that for repair it I have to change the all motherboard, because it's damaged and they can't repair it.
But they want 180 euro, the shop says me after a looooong talk that they haven't do nothing at the phone and maybe is a virus, and can help me paying an half,so i have to pay "only" 90 euro.
The question is it's possible damage the motherbord with a SW or a virus??
And what I have to do??
Pay 90 euro also if I haven't damaged it or use the phone like it is(it says me that is damaged and don't know for how much time it works)??
Thanks for help!!
Well looks like someone used that phone before, and looks like unlocked bootloader via official way(hence PC Companion or SEUS wont work), I can't think of another reason.
I wouldn't pay anything. I heard stories that people bought "brand new" phone from store, which have images on it from vacations..
Not sure how you will prove that you didn't do it.
They (Sony Ericsson) should have your IMEI, mail, name if someone unlocked BL official way: http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
If they say that you unlocked BL tell them to prove you, to show you info from above.
If they can't prove you, demand free fix, as you bought it new.
If they show you that, ether accept that device and go back here on XDA to relock your BL and use SEUS or PC Companion. Or ask/talk to shop to get you new device, which I doubt they will do As you can't prove that you didn't unlocked it.
few software modifications can do damage to the hardware in rare cases like extreme overclocking , extreme overvolting ....
first check if your phone is bootloader locked or not , try using flashtool software (of XDA) to flash latest firmware of your device & see if it changes anything ...
Before sending the phone to assistance I controlled and the bootloader was Unlooked,
but today the shop call me and they say that the assistance have tryied the phone and don't know the date of unlooking, and it's not for the official way.
After I tell that I'm sure, I'haven't do nothing.. they tell me that probably I have a virus, but have a virus apears to me a very very difficult probability, also for the use I have done with the phone. And I don't know if a virus can unlook the bootloader.
The problem is that I don't know how to prove the unlooking was before.

Yes.. but I think it's hard my phone is damaged for this reasons, I don't know..
It's possible that the motherboard is ok, but the assistance doesn't wont repair it and says me I have to change it??
The phone is unlooked I've seen it before sending to assistance, I haven't the phone now to try, it's in assistance, I have to decide if pay half for a reparacion (90 euro instead 180) or not..
If phone was just bought, just demand for a new unit. Maybe someone bought it from the store, unlocked it, then sent it back. When I got my neo new, my son stepped on it so LCD was busted. I had to return it aftr only 10 days of use. At first they refused to replace it but after some discussions, they did.
And honestly... Thats the first time I heard of a virus destroying a hardware -instantly I mean... But im no tech guru so how do I know.

Urban legend, software does not kill hardware instantly, it can shorten the life by straining it using it in a way it wasn't designed for but cannot cause instant death. Most of these myths come from old propriety software users, where a virus has damaged a driver or key library then the hardware stops working, stoopid then takes hardware to practitioner of dark arts (monkey who knows a little) who when asked states problem was a virus, stoopid then thinks virus broke hardware, monkey doesn't explain to perpetuate the myth that he can do magic, so that stoopid takes back to monkey when it next breaks.

Your phone is a used one probably,if pc companion says it got modified fw(due to bootloader being unlocked on official method I guess) and you haven't done anything to it big chance its earlier used one.Demand a new unit from the shop.
>>The question is it's possible damage the motherbord with a SW or a virus??
very rare, but sometimesyes I guess.I remember reading in Neo forums about some battery sensor getting killed when updating android to 2.2 to 2.3.4
Wasn't that downgrading, not upgrading. More a case of missing drivers than physical damage, the battery still worked....

there is nothing called 'damaged by a virus' specially on 'android' , so yea basically any talk about virus damage is just the guys at the store which sold this phone to you are bullshitting !!

Yup, it is when downgrading. From 2.3.4 to 2.3.2. And it was for all Xperias2011, which started before 2.3.4.
Yup battery still working, but phone is not detecting juice from it
Still, until today noone(of course appart SE guys) knows what exactly killed it. And they(SE) replace entire mbo when you give them phone with that problem.

Don't be so sure. Yes they can. Regardless if this is the case or not with his phone.
@pioloo: did you bought that phone in some locale phone store, or at some tele operator shop?
Anw, we can all guess now and tell you what we would do. It's up to you. If you are 100% sure you didn't do anything to it, demand new phone, or repairing on THEIR cost, or money return. Don't know how are laws in your country.

I bought it in a big chain fisical shop, in Italy.
Yes, I'm sure I haven't do nothing, and a virus, in the few days i had it, appears to me very very difficult.
But the problem is that I have no proof..
The shop tolds me that the motherboard is broken, and it's possible that a virus can have canged some registers...
But I can't understand how a virus can broke a moderboard like this... How it's possible????
Also because the phone works perfectly when I send in assistance!
And why, with a flashing you can't have the originals registers??

You just answered your question.
Flashing new fw can restore old registry...unless you have unlocked bootloader. Search the forums here how to repair damaged bootloader. Maybe it can fix your problem.
Honestly, I have no faith in the skills of SE repair techs. The fact that they could not tell if my phone was previously rooted when I sent it for.repairs was proof enough for me.

After a looong looong talk with the shop finally I solved it!
They said, they change me the all motherboard of the phone for free!
But I had to insist a lot that I don't wanna pay ANYTHING! The offers me to pay only an half, after only 50 euros. But I refuse all! Because I know what I have done with the phone and a virus appears to me something almost impossible, knowning how a virus can work and how I used the phone!
I said I don't wanna pay if they don't have any proof the phone was modified after my buying date, and I asked to have the phone back as it was.
After this calls they call me and say me they pay for the reparation!
I bought it new with the receipt! In Italy in a big shop chain.
It was the last model in the shop and it was not sealed because they said me it was in exposition, but no one used it, and when I open it there was the full battery and the first android configuration, so I belive it and I buy it however.
A suspicion that someone had modified the software I would never have thought.
I don't know if this had happened to someone else who believed in the history of the virus or did not want to waste time discussing would pay a lot of money by no means.
Yes, also my think is the assistance don't want to loose time repairing it, they prefer change the all motherboard in this cases, and say it's impossible to repair.
Thanks to all for the precious help!!
Hey,
If you bought it with unlocked bootloader why dont you try to flash Stock rom via CWM ?
Jozinek created an Update zip of stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1518151
So basically you could try to flash a Kernel with CWM and then flash via CWM stock rom.

Yes, I thougth about flashing, but before trying everything I tried to have the phone perfectly new, that I paid for!
Because I don't know how was used from who flashed it, and also I don't wanna pay a modified phone like a new one..
Fortunely I solved it! And now I think I wanna save the guarantee at least to the exit of ICS and usefull mods for ICS!

i have tried to go these places but useless.. they only know how to replace the motherboard , they won't help us to deal with the back up issue
You can't solve that issue. It's not possible. The only people who might be able to (and this is probably a 1 in 1000 chance) is a company who specialises in data recovery from dead hard drives, and even that is very unlikely.
do others have methods to help me??
No.
i want to know what 's wrong with my phone....:crying:
when i try to turn on, i feel that the phone is still a bit warm... it's working right??
Something on the motherboard has crapped itself. No, the opposite. Having the phone warm up near the camera is symptomatic of every single case like this we see/have seen on here in 2.5 yrs. You're not fixing it yourself unless you replace the motherboard yourself, and you're not recovering your data regardless of what you or anyone else does.
Now, you can sit here for 4 days, a week, two weeks, a month in denial & maybe have people tell you to try things that might build your hopes up but have absolutely no chance of working, or you can bite the bullet & have the phone repaired or buy a new phone.
The choice is yours.

Take your phone to local mobile repair shop ... asks for checking short circuit for battery , and Two power IC's .. one located near camera and other lower Right..
ask him to check if something is wrong on both these..
if it does... asks for POWER IC replacement or Motherboard replacement..
If at last nothing works and you are finally going to replace your motherboard anyway
do this thing or ask a technician to do this.. may be it'll work:
