[Q] Cant find answer to this question, =/ - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Just brought an Att SGH 777 sgs2 and after hours upon hours of research, rooted my phone and installed unnamed ROM. My question is under ABout phone, you will see the KERNEL which is fine, that changes, but under android version it says 2.3.4.
From my understanding there is 2.3.6 so how do I change this? Does 2.3.6 come within the kernel I installed or ROM? Or do I have to dl the official 2.3.6 first then ROOT again and install the rom afterwards.

Your firmware is still 2.3.4 until you flash the latest leak (KK6). I wouldn't worry about flashing the leaks until ATT releases them officially due to random problems that every leak has in them.

ROM and firmware go hand in hand. It you flash the leaked 2.3.6 and then flash unnamed 1.3.2 or lower you are effectively flashing 2.3.4 back on. Until the rom dev builds a new rom from the newer firmware you are on the same firmware you were before.

[Q] Quick question with flashing ROMs

So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

Upgrading to 2.3.5

How can I upgrade to GB 2.3.5 without changing to another rom which include an upgrade to 2.3.5?
I'm not entirely sure how you're expecting that to work, or why you'd want to, but if you're not on 2.3.5 and don't want to change/upgrade your rom, you cannot magic yourself onto 2.3.5.
If you want to go to 2.3.5 now, your only choice at the moment would be to use an AOSP rom.
I think the only 2.3.5 at the moment is the CyanogenMod , which is still in the nightly

Not sure what how to root KG2 2.3.3

I upgraded my firmware today on my UK T-Mobile SGS2 today, but lost the root I had in the process. I was previously having a really annoying 'lag' that would make the whole phone jerky and unresponsive and that seems to have cleared up after this upgrade. I'm really keen to do the rooting properly this time... as I'm guessing it was a problem of incompatability that cuased the jerkyness problems I was experiencing before.
From the Chainfire rooting thread I see that there isn't a rooted kernel that is for KG2 and Android 2.3.3
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip - Is for 2.3.4
These files aren't labeled as being 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 - does anoyone know:
CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_JP_XSG_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.zip
If you were in my position, what would you root with?
My current phone details are:
Modellnummer:
GT-I9100
Android-Version:
2.3.3
Basisbandversion:
I9100BOKG1
Kernel-Version:

Thanks
If you are going to root then flash a custom Rom, then I wouldn't worry as the Rom will be based on 2.3.4 probably.
If you want to stay stock, then you could follow my route, CF-Root then flash VillainRom which is based on 2.3.4 and as close to stock as possible with a few tweaks to improve things such as battery life.
Hope this helps
Ideally I'l like to be able to get future official updates through Keis - and I would lose that if I switched to Villain rom right?
I also wondering if I'm going to flash a custom ROM, might I as well flash a more recent Samsung one like KH3? Looking at Villainrom it says there are problems with the stock browser and stock SMS.
Piecing together info from other threads I saw that someone said that you can flash a rooted kernel and then flash back your original unrooted kernel and it will stay rooted. Is this true? If so, perhaps I could flash a rooted kernel (either a 2.3.4 or a 2.3.3 for KG1 or KG3 (close to my rom), and then flash back my current KG2. Thing is, how do I get my current KG2 kernel off the device before I overwrite it with a rooted variant.
Sorry if my questions are a bit basic or confused. I'm still trying to get to grips with all this. Thanks for the patience!
1. Yes you will lose updates through Keis but the custom Roms are based on the most up to date anyway.
2. Don't think you can restore your kernel and keep root afaik busybox etc are baked into the kernel
3. Yes there is a lag problem, it is to do with odexing/deodexing (don't ask me) but there is a flashable fix if you search the thread. Villain Tweaks app should help with the SMS I think.
4. Find your firmware/kernel on Intratechs thread and download it and keep it safe. When you root you will replace the current kernel. If you need to go back then you can flash the original through odin.
Well, since it seems going with a full flash is the only way of rooting with my current officical setup, I'm gonna try KH3 and see how it goes. I'm quite relctant to get into custom romming because I don't normally have the time to deal with the inevitable problems (so I hear), but I do need to be rooted. Wish me luck! and thanks for your help.

Plus it can be many months later on Kies .

[Q] running motorola update

I am running motorola software update and everytime I try I get there is no software update at this time. I want to re-install the offical motorola atrix att update but seem unable to. My att atrix is rooted and is running the stock rom.
is your phone from at&t? as far as I know, there's no recent update since 2.3.4 was released.
Yeah what are you talking about? It sounds like you are on stock already, just rooted.
Sent from my CM7 Atrix 4G
Why do you want to install the latest again if you are currently running it, which it appears you are if there is no update available?
If you want to just reinstall your stock ROM, and you are already on the latest ROM, you cannot do this through update. You will have to flash the latest ROM (which would be your current version) via other means such as RSDLite and a SBF, or via fastboot per the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163342
Link above is for AT&T device.
It is adviseable to NOT flash a SBF though.
Simple search and some reading will give you all the information you need, but it sounds like you probably have no experience or you wouldn't be asking this, so I would say to be very careful and/or not do anything with your phone if stock is what you want.

Firmware for ICS 4.0.4 I9100DXLP9?

My Galaxy S2 I9100 is from Singapore and has the baseband version : I9100DXLP9
But i can't seem or rather can't find the way to upgrade to 4.0.4 as most of the custom roms require the ICS 4.0.4. Any help?
If you want to upgrade to ICS, first go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and search for a GT-i9100 firmware. Then, learn how to use Odin (do a search around here) to flash the firmware onto your phone
I'm already on 4.0.3 ICS. Rooted with CF kernel. But most roms require 4.0.4 like cyanogen mod. I can't find any firmware for LP9 for the 4.0.4
If you want to use CM9, flash the Resurrection Edition in Odin, then flash Gapps & the latest CM9 nightly. All the instructions are on the first page of the CM9 discussion thread. I suggest you read the first page very carefully & follow the instructions to the letter.
Is there a way for me to upgrade the firmware to 4.0.4? I can't seem to find the firmware version for I9100DXLP9. Or possible to upgrade via flashing a 4.0.4 custom rom?
You seem to be asking how to upgrade to the official Samsung 4.0.4. Well, there isn't one. And you wouldn't need to in order to install a custom ROM that is 4.0.4.
Ahh right right.. thanks for clearing it up. So i'm on a 4.0.3 rooted all i have to do is flash CM9 Resurrection and upgrade to the nightly build from there?
That's what was just said. And that's why I didn't even mention Android version numbers in my post. Because they're irrelevant.
