[Q] Bypass Sprint activation - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hey Folks, I am an owner of a new HTC Evo View 4g hoping to find answers to the following questions...
Is there a way to bypass the Sprint Hands Free Activation when you power up Evo View 4g?
Is there a way to cancel the constant sync of nothing? When it is powered on an connected to wifi the "sync" icon shows up, but when I go to Settings>Accounts & Sync, there is nothing checked. So I click on "Cancel Sync" and it stops.
I have S-off, root and CWM recovery, with HBoot 1.13.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would like to know how to disable the hands free activation as well, it is super annoying. My View is bone stock, unrooted.

Bump!
Anyone have any ideas?

Install No Lock - click on No Lock to switch on Locking Disabled - when you next boot up No Lock blows away the Sprint Logo and Activation screen - at least that worked for me

I think you can get rid of the nagging prompt if you can somehow obtain the MSL/SPC code.
If I am thinking this correctly, after you obtain the MSL/SPC code, you need to go into EPST mode (read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146127) then change the phone number to something else...
The hard part is getting the MSL/SPC.
OR you can just sign up for a service, have it activated, then just turn the radio off and cancel the service within 3 days for a full refund.
Done.

No Lock works for me too!
Thanks matthew2582. The No Lock app trick works for me too. For the benefit of others who wan't to try it, i noticed the following caveats: The tablet must be in Airplane mode (yes, wifi still works in airplane mode) and you must turn the tablet off rather than use the restart option.
Love this forum. I looked for solutions on this issue for hours unsuccessfully (well, I found options that involved rooting the tablet, but didn't want to go that route) before finding this.

Does anyone have a link to NO LOCK? I have purchased these as gifts so I want to give them the information on how to remove the activation menu if required.
Also, can this be done from STOCK without ROOTING?

No Lock is free of charge and in the Market here -- https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
And you don't need to do anything in terms of changing any wifi or airplane settings -- just install the app, enable No Lock and you are all set
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using Tapatalk

And I forgot to mention -- no rooting required -- just stock app for stock tablet
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using Tapatalk

Matthew...good news. Thank you! One last question, if you uninstall No Lock, will the Sprint items stay gone?

Nothing is being changed or removed in any way -- No Lock just turns off screen locking and has the coincidental effect of zipping past the Sprint boot screen and their activation screen
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using Tapatalk

I installed No Lock and still get the sprint boot screen and activation, any tips or tricks I'm missing?

I wonder if there is an app in titanium backup you can freeze to get rid of this...

Hrmph, not finding any place that has a phone number to change here.

Has anyone contacted sprint or htc to see if there is anything that can be done to remove the activation? I'm sure there has to be someway to disable it. I mean I'm sure not everyone that's buying them is using them on the sprint network. Maybe if you call HTC they can help out.
Also an easy way to get the MSL is in terminal emulator just type "getprop ril.MSL" (no root required) I'm not sure if it works on the view but I know it works on sprint phones.

Has anyone tried this?

I found that I could disable the sprint activation by disabling the /system/apps/vdmc.apk
I wonder if sprint 3g/4g will still work after this?

You can use Titanium Backup and I believe root is required. You can also do it by typing a command into Terminal Emulator. "pm disable /system/app/nameofapk.apk"

how do i lock my phone?

BAMF 1.6.3
i know i can quickly depress/release the pwr button to lock the screen, but is there a quick method/setting to "lock" the phone requiring a password to unlock without powering down? i'm sure there's an app out there. just wondering if i'm missing something native to the phone or to bamf.
thanks

You can put your screen timeout down to 15 seconds.

would prefer not to do that. would prefer something like a short cut/keystroke.
by the way, is there a way to create a shortcut for settings>security>lock phone after>immediately?

Why would you need something like that though? I don't understand the benefits of it compared to just pressing the power button. j/w
I don't have an answer to the original question, but thought I'd point out that in addition to locking the phone, you may want to lock your "SIM." Doing so prevents someone from using your SIM in another phone and running up your bill.
I believe the default SIM PIN1 is 1111 for all VZW SIMs.

I thought that each LTE sim is registered to the MEID of your Thunderbolt and is unable to be used in others. (without extensive EPST work) Hence the reason people were getting brand new TB's also had to get brand new SIM cards?

You didn't read the material Verizon provided with your phone, did you? Right there on the front of the Activation Guide: "To learn more about your 4G LTE SIM card, visit verizonwireless.com/4GSIM" Poke around, and you'll find this:
the SIM card is portable and can be used in any Verizon Wireless-certified 4G device. All usage will be billed to the account associated with the 4G SIM card.

Ahhhh, so i am actually supposed to read those pages with words on them? I thought it was just packing material.
I've honestly never read one phone manual i've ever had. Not cause I know everything about a phone before I get it, but I just rather find out everything myself. If i had to get a replacement shipped to me I'm sure I would have found that out then.
But also, I don't know if you saw some other threads or not, but i remember people saying they went in and got replacements and had to get a new SIM also. They said the VZW reps had said that the SIM is not transferrable. I don't know for sure, just saying what was said.

If you set it to lock phone immediately, it will lock when you press the power button fast. The screen will turn off and the phone locks. When you press the power button next, the screen turns on and you need to swipe to unlock screen. You then enter password to unlock phone.
I have done it this way and it works fine. Hitting the power button once fast is the same as if you had an icon for it. The nice part is you can be on any screen.
just use the app i posted and if you need a password set it up in settings in security and viola just what your asking for software app to lock and password on unlock
also here is the patch to make the volume rocker wake the device also so then you could wake the phone with volume button and power buttton

[Q] Signal/Service drops at random- Restart required

I recently purchased an HTC Evo V 4G on Virgin Mobile. Otherwise known as the HTC Evo 3D (it even says Sprint on the case.)
I'm having this problem where seemingly at random I will attempt to make a call or a text and it won't go through. My signal bar will suddenly drop to 0 and when it comes back I am unable to do anything. No data, calls, or texts will go through. I am then forced to restart my phone (with Fastboot off otherwise I need to take out the battery) to get it working again. It's hard to notice when this happens unless I notice I'm not getting any texts back. At that point I call my voicemail to see if it works.
Was this a problem people had with the phone on Sprint? Is this new to VM and caused by that? I'm not a new VM customer either. I never have problems like this. I don't know if there's conflicting apps causing weird behavior, it's something on VMs causing the behavior, if this is a known issue, etc.
Any help or guidance I can get will be much appreciated.
More info:
When SMS messages won't go through it displays:
"SMS Error
Radio Interface Resource Shortage"
Details:
"SMS Error
Cause Code: 64
Error Class: 2"

I'm not sure about the error but I have had weird things like that (not same) happen to me since flashing the vm firmware from the leak and using an ics rom. Going to airplane mode and back usually helps me, might save the trouble of restarting.

Same thing happening here!!!! I flashed the vm firmware so I'm guessing it's that
I've tried airplane mode to no avail.
I'm on Virgin Mobile... I wonder if it matters that I have a Sprint labeled phone? I assume that VM users are getting old stock of the EVO 3D and they didn't want to bother re-branding until they ran out. Which means that I'm in nearly the same situation: I have the EVO 3D flashed with the VM ROM. Maybe that's causing issues?
Try one thing, I believe I fixed my problem for now at least. Dial *#*#4636#*#* , go to phone information, scroll all the way down and the preferred network mode should be set to "WCDMA". Change it to "CDMA auto (PRL)" then restart your phone. If you are already on the one I'm telling you to change to then I got no idea. I was getting the exact same error codes as you and that random service drop, haven't had it since I made this change. Let me know how it goes

I don't know the technicalities but I just know that it fixed for me and in the past have seen people recommended that.. it all comes down to just messing with it yourself you know, it's not dangerous to change if anything goes wrong just revert back
the same thing happened to me, and i flashed back to the sprint firmware using the firmware recovery thread, and that seemed to fix things, however i don't know what flashing sprint firmware is going to do

##3282# from dialer
go to edit mode and enter msl(use msl reader from market if ur rooted, if ur not rooted u will have to ask sprint for it)
hit menu at top right corner of edit screen "reset"
This will re-provision ur data profile with Virgin Mobile and clear out any hodgepodge. But if u bought the phone from VM and its doing that I doubt a data profile restore will fix the problem. I had the Sprint 3d and flashed the VM ICS leak and it caused the same problem for me and most of the other Sprint users that flashed it. I think it has something to do with how ICS interacts with the carrier network (radio interface daemon) hence the "radio interface resource shortage" error. Once once the developers realized the VM firmware was not need to flash ICS, it worked flawlessly with Sprint firmware.

I knew the first thing I should have done is root this phone... especially since I'm coming from an Optimus V that was rooted 90% of the time I had it if not more.
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it!
I tried getting my MSL and was unsuccessful. Is this something phone specific or account specific? I found my MSL from my last phone since that's rooted.
I don't know if it's caused by ICS, my Windows setup, or what but attempting to finding my MSL was a hassle this time around. I can get pretty far into the steps but since the guide isn't written for my phone there seems to be something I'm doing wrong. I read through hundreds of comments and tried everything I could, too.

If u asked them for it and they wouldn't give it to you just tell them you are having problems getting your phone to access data and send texts with the network and can they walk you through how to reprovision it. They should tell you to dial ##3282# and enter a code. That 6 digit code they read out to you is your MSL. Write it down.

WIFI Calling

So I did a restore using the LG tool and I am missing the wifi calling app. I can't seem to get it at all from any source, I've read some discussions about it but haven't gotten anywhere with it.
Anyone have some advice ? Ive tried all the ## diag numbers and all of that to try to get the sprint software to load but it doesn't load the WIFI calling app or any other sprint apps.
Can someone maybe provide me with the APK ?
Hopefully this helps!

I am not sure how to make this stuff active..I've tried every procedure possible on this to get it enabled. ##RTN# and nothing no Sprint boot or shutdown or Sprint apps including the wifi calling.
I'm not sure if it's a blessing or now I can't use any of those features anymore.

I've used the tool 5 times to get back to stock (things I've tried that don't work, never with the build prop except the multi window) and not once has all the apps installed. I.e. wifi calling. You must know your msl. Once you know that you're golden. Restore back to stock. Don't bother with downloading or really setting up anything. Go to phone, dial ##rtn#. Option 2 i believe, put in your msl and bingo. It will restart have you sign in again and all that jazz and whalla. Wifi calling and all the other Sprint bs is back. Have any questions please ask.

V10 - T-Mobile version - accessing the hidden menu?

I've done a search and haven't found anything so far, so, thought I'd ask here:
What is the purpose of the hidden menu?
How do you access it?
What will it break if I activate it (I've seen some saying that it will break knock on (which i don't use any way and just seems gimmicky)?
Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, found it elsewhere: To access it, you have to input the code 277634#*# into the dialer.

Hasn't broken my knock-on, either.

There was a specific setting you'd have to change in order to break it. I don't remember which one.

I have the T-Mobile version and it was too strong of a coincidence that knock on broke the same day I discovered the hidden menu and started exploring. I didn't notice which menu broke knock on but I do know it had to be something I tapped in the hidden menu because I wasn't doing any other kind of modifications to the phone.
Really it just depends how boldly you explore the hidden menu options. If you do just be prepared to have to perform a reset.
Good news is that if you do break knock on, a device reset will fix it.
Also the official LG backup software seems to back everything up, app settings and even side loaded apps. It's just a little awkwardly implemented in that for security verification it requires you to re-enter the google accounts you had on your phone when you did the backup in order for it to even begin the restoration.
Meaning reset phone, re-enter your google account(s) on your phone, say no to google's auto restoration, then perform the LG bridge restoration.
Since google can automatically partially restore you'll have to say no and just leave it to the LG restoration process otherwise you'll have Play store restoring and updating apps at the same time the LG Bridge is trying to restore.
Played around with the hidden menu and indeed broke my knock feature. Didn't even change anything. I thought something was wrong with the phone. Took it back to tmobile for an exchange.
You can use any shortcut app off play store to put a link to the hidden menu knockon setting and turn it on and off.
I also have accessed it to enable fast dormancy to improve battery life for my TMO V10. It did not disable my knock features thankfully.

Great, however when there are no settings to turn it back on readily available (ie, in the settings menu), it DOES break it. Back when the issue was discovered, the only way outof off the problem was a reset. I'm glad there's another way now, though.

Let's kill the "Mobile data is turned off" notification!!

Hi Fellow ATT S7E Owners,
Some of us have chosen to stay Stock on this phone. My primary reason is not tripping Knox and using Samsung Pay. I have been trying to fix most issues or workarounds:
1. AdBlocking
2. Mobile Data toggle
3. Package Disabler to turn down the bloat
But for us ATT users, there is this annoying continuous notification that pops when we turn off data for the first time, after a reboot, EVER IF, we have WiFi on ! It goes, "Mobile data is turned off."
Googled and researched ways of getting rid of this annoying message. Wondering if any of you had success with it? Getting all of us to talk about it to see if there is a solution, thank you!

There is very simple solution . Turn your data on. If you worry that you get overages turn off some background data for apps. When you on WiFi your mobile data is not in use.
For all the hype about having control over your notifications, not being able to change this one is super annoying. I'm also guessing AT&T is trying to get us to us as much data as possible so they change charge us more.

The only way to get rid of it for now which is not very fun btw, Swipe right on the notification until you see the gear on the left and tap the gear. After that tap "phone" with the green icon next to the word "phone" and then tap "force stop".
So far that's the only way to get rid of it.

The only way to get rid of it for now which is not very fun btw, Swipe right on the notification until you see the gear on the left and tap the gear. After that tap "phone" with the green icon next to the word "phone" and then tap "force stop".

Thanks, but couldn't that endanger us getting a phone call, necessarily 100% of the time?
any news ? any way to disable it permanently ?
Interesting. I've never seen this on my S7E & I have mobile data permanently off.
Is it solved yet???

It shouldn't have to be this way, if I don't want data on, don't you agree? Why have needless signal processing or searching when I don't need something?
Tell me about it bud! Wish we had a way to slay it... For people wondering what this is, I'm attaching a screen shot...

No Sir it was never solved and I moved on to the S8+.
The Theme I was using was called, "Red Strokes" I believe with custom icons and a wallpaper.
Hope someone cracks this!
Galaxy s9, Android 8.0.0 here. Following worked for me, check if it works for you:
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Developer Options
3. Look for "Keep Mobile data turned on". Uncheck that.
And hopefully, voila...
EDIT:
This method does not work anymore...
1. Settings
2. Apps
3. Select Options, then Show System Apps
4. Locate "Phone" (Maybe there will be 3)
5. Select every "Phone" App that you find and select "Force to Stop"
and the message dissapers.
(If you restart the phone you will need to do this again).
