Update zip file - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Just wanted to pass word along to the rest of the Devs that I came across a factory restore zip file that works off SD card.
Mount the Factory block device somewhere on the filesystem and there should be a factory.zip file. If you rename that file to acclaim_update.zip, it will actually wipe /system and do a factory reset. I would host the file somewhere, but I'm not sure if that would violate any copyrights, and would rather avoid that mess altogether since its on each tablet already.

Thanks, this means we dont need to force 8 bad boots anymore at all.

Do we rename the file in place or copy to SD Card and rename there and then boot w/SD Card in?

Copy to sd card and rename. If you rename it in place, you WILL break your factory reset.
Also good knowledge to note, if you toast your recovery, this will not help you at all. Neither will the factory reset. Thanks to loglud for proving that.

Cant flash zip files anymore

I wiped everything, re-partioned sd-card and tried to install a new ROM..
But something have happend..
After i re-patrioned / wiped... and flash the rom (have tried a lot of ROM's now) i get errors..
Install from sdcard
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/Cronos-2-0J_.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Happends now on every rom i install, have already tried again to re-partion.
What is the most basic way to re-partion ? settings i mean?
Anyone know what could be the problem..
The zip files cant be corrupt either.
* I also noticed that if i upload a ROM-file, then re-partion and wipe everything..
The rom is still on the sd-card..
I then deleted the rom from sdcard and re-partion again, and still..even duo i already deleted the file.. its there?
Maybe it is because of the SD Card.. So if you have another one try it
I had this same problem i had to do a full format of the SD card then all worked fine never had the problem again strange
If you ecejt the SD card before its done (or eject it wrong) you may and up with a bad file.
What you could do is:
Format your SD card.
Then put a rom on it.
Then go to my pc, and find ur card, then right click and select eject
Yea something strange with your sdcard.
Try as they stated above. Remove the sdcard from your phone. Insert it back in.
Try to reformat it with a different sdcard setup like: no swap, no ext only fat32.
Then check if the card is still behaving the same if not good. If so maybe the sdcard is just defect?
Good Luck.

+1
same issue here, solved this way.
Did you flash an exotic recovery image by any chance?
You can always reflash 1 back by pushing it to /cache/ and flashing from there.
A radical way to overcome this would be to delete the partition table on your SDcard and let your current rom reformat it.
Im bumping my own thread.. Last time i bought a new sdcard..
Now this **** have happend again.. I get the same error as before!
How should i do this? Is there any other way then whats posted now?
Happens on all Roms
This is quite obvious but you make no mention of what recovery image is on you sd card?
I assume you saved the old image you were using and put it back on your sd card
Yes,maybe you recovery image is damaged.
Try to install again!
It sounds like your sd card is not actually partitioning since the rom is still on the sd card. To partition the sd manually try this:
I'm going to assume the following:
You are using Amon Ra recovery
You have not downloaded Clock Work recovery
You can still get into recovery using Amon Ra
You have SDK and JDK installed
You're using windows
Plug your phone into the computer. Open a command prompt (hit start and type cmd and press enter). Direct it to read from the tools directory of sdk " cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" for most people. Now follow the directions from this how-to http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/. Stop after step 4 and type "quit" unless you plan on repartioning your sd card (in which case, choose which partitions you wish to make). Move the new rom you want to boot to the sd card and try again.

Restoring My Nook To Factory Settings?

Hello All!
I purchased a new Nook Tablet 16 a few weeks ago and I want to restore it to factory settings.
Currently my NT16 has CM7 installed. I used the "boot from SD card" method to install CM7 and everything worked great so that's what I have running on my NT16.
Prior to installing CM7 I made a full backup of my NT16. When I made this backup I got the following files:
boot.img
cache.ext4.tar
data.ext4.tar
nandroid.md5
recovery.img
system.ext4.tar
The thing that I am confused about is when I boot into recovery to flash a new rom it always asks for a .ZIP file and, as you can see from my file list above, I don't have any .ZIP.
So my question is, how to I recover my NT16 to factory settings given the files I have above? Do I just zip them up and use that?
Thanks!! :victory:
Use the "backup and restore" menu item, then navigate to folder with the date that you created the backup.

I am currently using the Win32DiskImager.exe to make a boot disk and I am going to boot using this disk. When I boot and get the menu will it have an option to "backup and restore?"
Thanks!
Yes, I believe that's the same option you chose to create the backup.

Ok I created the bootable SD card and I got the CWM Recovery menu. I put the SD card with all my backup files in the NT and when I hit Restore it says: "Couldn't open directory. No files found.".
The other question I have is this....
When I create the boot disk using Win32DiskImager do I also put my backup stuff on that same disk? Or do I bootup using the SD card with CMR on it then take out that SD card and put another SD card in, the one that has my backup files?
Thanks!
Is the SD card mounted?
EDIT: You could switch cards if you wanted, but why not do it the easy way? Transfer your Nandroid backup to the /mnt/media partition, then choose "restore from internal SD".

I bootup using the SD card with the CMR on it and do a "hot" switch of the SD card with the one that has my recover stuff. When I put the SD card in it doesn't automatically mount it?
By the way, does anyone else HATE how B&N made their SD card slot? You have to open that little flap on the corner and it's such a pain in the butt to put the SD card in!
Yeah, the SD slot is a pain, especially if you have a case on the NT.
And if you're not sure if the card is mounted, just go to the "mounts and storage" menu option and see what it says about /sdcard.

In the Mounts and Storage menu it lists /sdcard and /sd-ext. Which one is the SD card?
I tried both and when I choose mount /sdcard it works but when I choose mount /sd-ext it doesn't (it says "error mounting /sd-ext")
That's because you don't have a /sd-ext to mount. /sdcard is your microSD card.
Can I put all my recovery files on the same SD card that is made using Win32DiskImager or is it standard procedure to hot swap to another SD card that has your recovery files?

Well, the I guess my SD card is mounted because when I choose the option to mount /sdcard I don't get any failure notices. However, when I go back to recovery I still get the error that it can't find any files. :crying:
Well, I don't really think there's any standard procedure, just whatever you think is easier. Have you touched the original "clockworkmod" folder since you made the backup?

Touched? What do you mean (sorry)?
Touched, changed, modified? Sorry, probably not a good word to use.
Just to clarify I am going to list the exact procedure I am doing and you guys let me know if everything seems okay:
1. Using Win32DiskImager.exe create the bootable disk with the image cwm_sd_flashing_boot.img using SD Card A
2. Format another SD Card (lets call it SD Card B) using Windows using quick format
3. Copy my backup files to SD Card B
- boot.img
- cache.ext4.tar
- data.ext4.tar
- nandroid.md5
- recovery.img
- system.ext4.tar
4. Boot the NT16 by holding down the power button and the N button until the unit powers on and then off
5. Put SD Card A in the NT16 and boot
6. Wait until CWM Recovery menu appears
7. Take out SD Card A and put in SD Card B (without rebooting or anything)
8. In the CWM Recovery menu choose Restore
9. Should be success at this point but I get the file not found error

Actually, I am a UNIX guru and I know what touched means because touch is a command that, among other things, creates a file. I just didn't know if that's where you were coming from too.
You need to keep those recovery files inside the folder in which they were created.

When I created the recovery files it made a folder called 2012-07-31.03.48.54 is this what you mean?

[Q] Flashing ROM - Locating the ROM

I'm embarrassed to ask such a stupid question, but I've been digging around for hours and couldn't find an answer. Using TWRP, I was attempting to flash MeanROM. I placed the ROM in my Dropbox and downloaded it to my phone using the default browser. Booted into recovery and began to follow the steps. I created a backup, did my wipes, etc. So when I was finally ready to flash, I went into Install and have no idea where the ROM was saved. I thought it would be easy enough to find so I didn't bother checking where it saved before hand. I also couldn't find where my Backup saved so I couldn't even restore from there.
Could you please help me find my ROM or backup?
Switch mount points, perhaps the Rom is on external and not internal

I don't have an external SD card installed. I imagine that the ROM is in the default saving location for the browser, I just don't know how to navigate there. And I have no idea what the default saving location is for TWRP backups.
Downloads from the stock browser goes to my external sd card in the downloads folder. There's also a downloads folder on my internal card.

Back ups are stored in TWRP/BACKUPS

So I did a system wipe and it looks like that's where I went wrong. The directions said to wipe everything but I guess I got carried away as it looks like it cleared everything off. The only thing under the sdcard folder is a TWRP folder. But when I press Install and then go into /sdcard/TWRP, there's nothing in there. Shouldn't the back up I created be in there?
Please tell me I didn't brick my phone my doing the system wipe.

You didnt brick, you just need to put a rom on the card and flash. If boot fails, you will need to flash kernel through fastboot

When I tried mounting my phone to my computer from TWRP, it shows up as a drive on my computer, but when I try to click on it, I get the following message:
The Disk in drive F is not formatted.
Do you want to format now?
Is it safe to go ahead and format and will that erase all that's left on my phone?

Great, I'll give that a shot when I get home. One last question, which parts should I mount to format? System, data, or cahce?
you only need to select mount and then mount as storage, everything else can be wiped in recovery

Fat32 format of my phone, computer finally recognized it as a functioning drive, transferred the ROM over, and flashed it with no problem. Loving MeanROM. Thank you so much for all your help.
No problem

[Q] Boot problem LOST.FOUND

Hey Guys,
I have a Android/WinCE Car Radio.
So I got Android on a SD Card and it booted well, but one day it stopped booting.
If I mount the SD from the internal Android on the device, there is a LOST.FOUND directory on the boot partition where boot.scr and so on is.
If I delete the directory and restart, the system boots from the SD again. But if I do a restart, the system won't boot again. I need to delete the LOST.FOUND directory every time...
I'll Attach the boot partition, maybe you can give me a solution to this.
Thanks
bump
If you run fsck, the filesystem check and repair command, it might find data fragments that are not referenced anywhere in the filesystem. In particular, fsck might find data that looks like a complete file but doesn't have a name on the system — an inode with no corresponding file name. This data is still using up space, but it isn't accessible by any normal means.
If you tell fsck to repair the filesystem, it will turn these almost-deleted files back into files. The thing is, the file had a name and location once, but that information is no longer available. So fsck deposits the file in a specific directory, called lost+found (after lost and found property).
Files that appear in lost+found are typically files that were already unlinked (i.e. their name had been erased) but still opened by some process (so the data wasn't erased yet) when the system halted suddenly (kernel panic or power failure). If that's all that happened, these files were slated for deletion anyway, you don't need to care about them.
Files can also appear in lost+found because the filesystem was in an inconsistent state due to a software or hardware bug. If that's the case, it's a way for you to find files that were lost but that the system repair managed to salvage. The files may or may not contain useful data, and even if they do they may be incomplete or out of date; it all depends how bad the filesystem damage was.

Make sure your boot files in the root of the partition are ok.
Make a backup of the files, copy the files in the lost.found directory over the existing files or use the original one (firmware download from device supplier?)
And make sure you unmount the SDcard safe.
Good luck..
THere are no files at the LOST.FOUND directory.
If I take a other SD and put the stock image on it, it's the same problem.

Read only SD card. Contains corrupt cache. Can't download anything

Just recently I found my phone.
I resettled it after cwm went wrong
Then I repartioned external SD card. Through cwm. 6gb primary 1gb ext size and 196mb swap.
Then I downloaded zarchiver to move and delete stuff(internal SD card does not get wiped during factory reset.)I deleted the android folder and it failed I then went up a directory and back down. My SD card became read only. I can move and delete files with root browsers but the one cache file from the app tumble is not deleting. I tried through settings but to no avail. Then I read somewhere that someone had a similar problem. He tried RM and um but neither worked. So he rooted and tried again. He then used fsck_msdos to find the corrupt file and delete it and he rebooted and it worked. Now I have my fsck_msdos but not in its original filepath( I got rid of it because of media scanner problems).
Now a few things. Which partition is my swap size from my sdcard is (eg mmcblk"x"p"xx". "X" is a number)? Because I want to use swapper 2 .
Where is the fsck msdos file directory and also fstab.
And what command do I use with fsck or any other command to fix my problem. The guy I read about he did something like fsck /dev/vold/179:... I don't know and it fixed it for him.
Please help and thanks beforehand[emoji3] [emoji3] [emoji3]
[EDIT] I got my sdcard as read write. I turned my device on and off but the files still there. If I touch it it will make it read only again
