greetings all,
i have a new phone and unfortunately the phone came with a rom of our service provider t-mobile who but some custom apps witch can be only removed if the phone has been rooted.
of course i did some research on how to root my device but i get stuck and have no idea anymore how to root my device. i made luckily a screen capture.
could please someone help me how to root my device and send me links of file that i need during the root proces.
many thanks in advance.
Those pre-installed apps are part of your firmware, which is branded. If you want to get rid of them, flash one that isn't branded. And if you want your phone rooted too, just go with a custom-ROM.
If you need help with it, tell me what country you live in and what language you want your UI in.

you mean just instal a custom rom using odin?
This depends on your desired outcome.
Do you want a stock ROM, a custom-ROM, CyanogenMod or MIUI?

i want to use cyanogenmod or miui, i have no idea what the difference is between them but it seems to nice.
CyanogenMod is as close as you can get to the "naked" Android. It's like the nexus-series.
MIUI is like a mix of Android and iOS. Very simple, yet powerful and allows a lot of customization.

many thanks for explanation, so in my case i should probably choose for miui, so how do i get it on my phone?
First backup your data. You will have to factory reset your phone. What language is the UI in? I assume Dutch, but I'm not sure.
You can already download Odin and the Siyah-kernel (the tar version).
Edit:
Just checked your profile. ;-)
You can find ether latest MIUI on
www.miui.nl/
Tell me once you have all the files.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i downloaded the Siyah-kernel and also download the miui rom from miui.nl.
so what do i need to do next?
You need either Odin or Heimdall. In your case I'd go with Odin, as it's simpler to use and you won't need it much. So, download Odin and get the drivers working. Close KIES competely, put your phone into download-mode (turn off, hold volume-down & home, then turn it on) and connect it while Odin is running. It should detect your device.
I'll post the further instructions once you got everything working so far.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i am ready
When you are ready with Odin, make sure that Repartition and flash lock are NOT checked.
Auto reboot and f. reset time shall be.
Tick the "PDA" box and select the Siyah tarball. Then hit start.
When the phone reboots immediately hold volume-up and home until you are in ClockWorkMod.
Go to mounts & storage and mount the USB-storage. Put the MIUI-zip-file on your device, then unmount the USB-storage.
After that proceed like this:
Wipe data
Install zip from sd-card and choose your MIUI zip.
Wait till the installation is finished and reboot.
If your phone does not boot, go into ClockWorkMod and install again.

Thnx for the quick reply.. i found the Siyahv2.6.4.tar file, i will try tonight!
I it doesn't work I'll use the tar files from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 to gain root..
It worked! Thank You.
After 6 our of putting all the information across the web together so i could try to root the S2 GT-9100 i got it working. So i want to give you the credits, there your post was my main lead of info to get started. I have the MIUI: Miuinl SGS2-1.12.30 Signed version installed, after i routed the phone through ODIN with: Siyah-v2.6.7. My Baseband version is still the I9100BOKJ1 (no idea what is means), but got it working now. It is a blessing, will thanks on the Miui site as well for this great piece of work. Thanks, and for the other new visitors: it works, just read from the beginning and have patient.

GingerMOD is also very close to pure AOSP. I'm actually considering going to it because it supports TV-Out via MHL, whereas CyanogenMod does not, as far as I know. Could be worth checking out for you.
use another kernel
hi it have worked for me too, but i have a question, could i use another kernel with a stock rom is this possible, im not that smart and have for the first time a smartphone the same as karamanoglu, i just got lucky to got my phone rooted, first i did a hard reset and it got in a loop by rebooting and going to the tmobile logo back and forth, so i got frustrated and decided to root it, but i dont like the custom rom and want it back to the stock rom, but am affraid it will get a brick with my luck. can i use the kernel bokg2 and with the original stock rom from samsung but still rooted and can delete the apps from samsung if i want, sory for the bad english.
I am new to android so I'm trying to learn, and in the process jacked up my phone.
So I did something not so smart and updated my AT&T Galaxy S2 via these instructions:
androidauthority samsung-galaxy-s2-ice-cream-sandwich
(sorry it won't let me post the URL)
It actually worked, however, my back button doesn't work, and my search button doesn't work, I can make a call but can't hear anything and they can't hear me and vice versa.
I realized there are some samsung glaxy's out there that just have the home button, I figured I must have loaded one of those roms so I tried to load the "stock" rom to go back to where I was.
I can load the stock rom but when the phone boots up to the green android symbol startup wizard the phone just sends a cascade of errors one after another and you can't proceed any furhter.
So I went back to the orignial ICS from the post above, and the phone comes back up, only same problems but at least I can load it up and surf/get e-mail/text.
So I start playing around with mixing parts, and I find out that basebad is the "radio", and I can change that to different versions without changing the OS version, so I figure I must have some kind of mis match going on.
I used Odin and there is PIT, BOOTLOADER (I didn't touch bootloader) PDA PHONE and CSC.
Is it safe to assume if everything works but voice calls, that I need to find the right "phone" version? what about the back button and search buttons?
I have the "stock" PDA version, but I'm guessing that doesn't work because I need the matching PIT, and CSC? Where do/can I find those?
My phone shows network state connected, shows IMEI number and can surf the web but no voice, all other audio works.
Please help a newbie out, and help me understand what PIT, PDA/PHONE/CSC is all about so I can get my phone working again.
And just to be clear, I don't care if I'm back to 2.3.4 or whatever, I just want to get this thing working again.
There isn't a ICS ROM for our version of sgs2- i777. Only the i9100 international version. That's why your search and back button don't work. Also without kernel source we prob won't have a working ICS ROM. that's also why the in call audio doesn't work..

There is no working ICS for our device yet that ICS is for the GT-I9100, as far as restoring back to stock. There is ODIN One click which will return you back to stock? Can't find the best threads but this might help.

I'll try to find the ODIN one click but the one I have doesn't have that option, my other problem is a lot of the links I'm finding for stock roms are hosted by mega upload and of course those are all gone now.

Hopefully whatever you flashed previously didn't have a PIT or bootloader...
Now that fileserve is down I'm going to try and fix the stock ROM upload links in a day or two. The question is - Where?
And anyone who says Dropbox dies - Dropbox is NOT suitable for uploading ROM images, it'll blow through the 2GB Dropbox limit in no time flat.

It had a PIT, I think I just learned a very expensive lesson, the phone now just stits at the screen that says firmware upgrade encountered an issue and it just sits there, can't even boot into download mode.

No, they limit total storage to 2GB for free accounts - I already have a few hundred megs for personal use, and 2-3 ROMs would blow through my remaining storage instantly.
I think it's possible to recover from a bogus PIT flash (and someone did manage to do it after an ICS screwup), but I'm not sure how - I've never done it myself.

How about minus.com. 10gb free storage and clean interface.
Ok I'm back up and running, I managed to find a download for stock firmware that wasn't hosted on mega upload, only took a few hours to download it
Odin could still see it so I loaded up the new firmware and it works, I don't fully understand it because no matter what firmware I tried the startup screen wouldn't change, the OS would clearly change, and I could change things like the baseband and see that change but that start screen wouldn't ever change.
After my phone "blew up" and wouldnt' even go into download mode I hit it again with stock firmware and the startup screen changed this time and it worked.
What is funny is I tried the same firmware more than once with no positive effects, it wasn't until I managed to piss the phone to the point download mode woudln't even come up that the firmware fixed my problem.
Why is that, was that part of the firmware locked or something?
What do the different parts control?
I think I figured out:
PDA must be the actual OS version with apps/kernal/bloatware
Phone is the modem version
what does PIT and CSC modify?

Unfortunately, that's old news. That video is of the old version of Galnets MIUI that is based off of the 4.0.1 framework and not true ICS. We have a much better 4.0.1 framework based version of the official MIUI ROM in the dev forums, and I use it on a daily basis on my I777. Shep is currently working on getting the MIUI 4.0.3 ICS ROM built for our phones, and it looks promising.

No, the Galnet stuff was a framework hack, not true ICS by any means (not even remotely). We should end this tangent ASAP, as Galnet discussion is not permitted here (For a wide variety of reasons, their releases broke about half of XDA's rules).

Yup. If you have the yellow warning triangle, you'll see I9100 on the I777.
If you don't have the triangle, you just see "Galaxy S II" with no model number - but we ARE SGH-I777. International is GT-I9100.

I did everything according to some guide but when i should get a green circle - meaning flashing succeeded, I dont get anything..it flashes something cause i see the (pink) line moving forward but after it finishes, there's nothing and when i turned on my phone was the same as before. I have used this website for Samsung ROMs before, and it's pretty great. You do have to make an account, but once you do you can just type in your model no. and it spits a .zip back at you. For Samsung firmwares, it's perfect.
I can't post an actual link, but the site is called sammoble. You could Google sammobile firmware, or go to samfirmware .com /firmware

Don't flash your firmware from sammobile if you don't know how to???
Most people have bricked their phone because they don't know how to flash or they make some mistakes in flashing the firmware !!!
So plz use caution or try the above link as i have given !!!

He is definitely right. If you are not 100% sure that you have the exact right firmware and know you are flashing it the exact right way, then you will likely brick your phone.
Flashing is a last resort in this case, but it may be necessary.

Ok, so that site didn't have the stock rom either and I think I know why...
All of the rom sites work by automatically downloading the rom from samsung's website when a phone's update comes out, but the samsung galaxy light has never had an update before (still at 4.2.2).
Here's my question: should I risk downloading kit kat 4.4 from this random blogspot page saying it has a hold of kit kat for my device or just wait and go without a phone for a little and fix it when kit kat comes out.
Edit: Nvm link doesn't work on blogspot... just going to have to wait
Why would you wait if you have your hands on a ROM that you know works?

1. Call Samsung Tech Support (1-888-987-4357)and say I blew up my system and I want you Samsung foos to re-flash my system.
2. It will take them about a day to get your device in their system, so call back in a day and they will ship your device to their Samsung place for free. (Well, I am not really sure if the shipping is free or not, but I know the service is. I will update when I find out.)
3. You will get your device back in a week or two fixed.
Note: This is how your going to have to fix any phone that you blew up the system for before a rom becomes available.
Glad you got it worked out!

Hello everybody!
I have an LG G2 mini D-625 from Mexico's TELCEL
also I have a RAZRi and a S3 mini fully unlocked and rocking CM and MIUI respectively, so I am not a total newby but still this is only my third phone with heavy mods.
I got to work on the G2 mini since I was planning on replacing my RAZRi.
I read a lot before starting, and downloaded all the drivers, tools and kdz's I needed to start.
Got the May release of the original ROM and was able to load it using the LG flash tool and the LG mobile support tool.(at this point the phone was able to get into S/W download mode)
I was able to boot with no problems and I proceeded to get root access, I did so using towelroot v1
at this point everything was still OK and I installed the supersu apk
then I trtied to flash TWRP to then flash some custom ROM and that's all there was..
next thing I see this error for a little bit and then the phone restarts.
[LGE_SECURITY] ERROR: boot image signature
[LGE_SECURITY] 5 seconds after Power is turned off for Battery saving
I have tried to get into recovery and S/W download mode and I am not able to do neither.. I actually stopped trying for a while, but decided to ask since reading got me nowhere.
I've read suggestions to just flash another kdz and that's it. But I am NOT able to get into any of those modes and I have tried every imaginable combination of keys (power + either up or down vol keys)
using the wall charger and the pc(same pc that has the drivers already since I was able to downgrade before) and still nothing.
Again, it was not my intention to bother with a Question, but I really exploited all resources.. (I even read some German, Italian and Brazilian forums.. so I DID read a lot before posting.

Thank you very much!
Thing is, I can't really follow these steps.. Since on that post says that the phone's screen goes black but the phone is still on. In my situation the phone never stops the rebooting until I remove the battery. I do have Linux as well, so I am trying right now and the phone just reboots.

Try while bootlooping or after removing and putting back the battery.

Here is another guy with one dead phone.
Flashed one modified boot image and can't enter in recovery, fastboot or normal mode.
The phone restart every time in the same error.
Anyone can solve this?
No, no solution found yet.
I think maybe this weekend I'll try to go to a Telcel store and try to return it. I'll just say I was trying to update using LG mobile support.. see if it sticks..
I'll be sure to let you guys know if this works.

Thats why i haven't unlocked the bootloader yet. Would have been really nice to have a custom recovery.. And of course the other reason is not much of custom roms...
Hello friends.
I went to a Telcel store today, and they took the cellphone back! They did say that it looked like someone tried to modify the software and that the solution for that was to send it back to the manufacturer. Do they did. Supposedly in about 12 days it should be back.. So I'll let you guys know.

Yup. And since they already noticed you modified it, they'll make you pay for it. Have fun.

Hope not!! they did check the warranty first and then they took it back. also I am under a contract, so they kinda force that warranty on you.
no money was mentioned.
as I said... I will let you guys know.. again this is with Mexico's TELCEL
No news?
They threw me in jail!!
Haha! Jk
They did however gave me the phone back as it was and did not fix a thing. And yes, they said it was because there was unknown software installed.
I got the address for their specialized technical team, but I'm to lazy to do it right now.
I'll post again to tell you guys how much they will charge me IF they can fix it..
Thanks for asking, and sorry I forgot to post the bad news when I got them.
