Advice from the group please ... - HTC Rezound

As many of you know (especially those coming from the Incredible), I am deathly afraid of having ANOTHER phone which thermals into bootloops.
I am on Rezound #2, and it seems to be behaving quite well. Last night at home, and on LTE, I was playing around with the maps and navigation and the phone got to 113 before shutting off. I believe it had run out of batteries.
Regardless, I do not want to run out of my 14 days to return the phone for another one, but if 113 (or something else) isn't particularly bad, then I certainly don't want to risk getting one which goes to 142 and has bad pixels.
Do you think I am still ok, or should I try for Rezound # 3. Is there a test any of you can think of for me to really see if this phone is bad.
My guess is that when the battery gets pretty low, it starts lowering the output, which makes the LTE radio strain, which raises the temperature. I am not sure that I would have had the same result with a much higher battery, but I am no expert here.
Any advice is appreciated ... I really like the Rezound ... I just want to make sure I have one that will last me the 2 years.
Thanks

113F isn't bad at all, as for your return period it should be about 2 months (January 15th IIRC) instead of two weeks if you bought it after November 14th. I'd say keep another two weeks and see how it fares.

[Q] AT&T Atrix Exchange/Return Options

Picked up an Atrix March 17th and have been having issues with it, not really sure what the best option is as far as replacement vs exchange vs return
Replacement would be fine if it's just a defective unit, but how would I know until AFTER It's replaced?
Exchange would also be great but what else is currently out that can compare? I only see LG Thrill and GS2, neither of which will be available by my April 17th return/exchange cutoff date.
Return would also work, but won't ATT insist on charging a restock fee? Would I retain my upgrade eligibility after a straight return?
Anyway, heres the issues I have been having
AT&T - Rooted .26 updated to .57, not re-rooted, not unlocked
Launcher Pro, no other major mods. No Auto sync'ing, no background data. Auto brightness outside, darkest setting indoors (8hrs a day indoors), BT off, Wifi off, GPS off.
1. Battery life - It is much lower than expected even with relatively light use, Drains 10-20% in 1st hour of use typically, Down to 30-40% by lunchtime typically.
2. Overheating - The device get abnormally hot on the bottom, typically within 1minute of use. Abnormal battery drain seems to be associated with the heat, but it only happens about 1/2 the time
3. Lockups/reboots - It locks up pretty regular and totally shut off a few times.
4. Wifi - It's terrible! Doesn't maintain connection and has very poor range vs other phones/devices on the same networks. I lose connection from LR to Bathroom, it's only about 15ft away with 1 sheet rock wall in between
5. "4G" Capping to 3G speeds is VERY annoying. What am I paying for getting a 4G device if theres actually no 4G? (And yes I know they are rolling out update to "Fix" this in April...Doesn't change the fact that they sold me a vette and I got a civic)
6. Colors - Am I the only one that's noticed the terrible hue's in the yellow/brown/orange color range? Maps roads seriously look like baby puke green on my device. I've compared with SGS, Iphone 4, Iphone 3gs and blackberry's...The colors are definately WAYYY off.
Outside those issues It's been a pretty solid device, very fast and responsive with Launcher Pro loaded. Love the fingerprint scanner, resolution, HDMI + media player. I'm leaning towards straight return, use old phone till SGS2 releases, or maybe Iphone4. Ideas/suggestions?
your performance issues are something is running out of control. Rapid battery drain and warmth indicate someting is running.
My phone never locks up, never reboots, and battery lasts all day with heavy use.
I returned my Atrix as well. I think there will definitely be a bit of a wait before any of the phones you mentioned come out. I am using an old phone at the moment and am biding my time until the next batch of phones come out.
Patience is key.

Yea I had the same thought but couldn't figure it out. Looking at task manager/process explorer didn't show anything actively doing anything, or at least not to the point of extreme battery drain and heating.

"Tango" and future "Apollo" update

Hello, i'm looking to buy a new phone and the nokia lumia has caught my attention.
I've been reading about it and understand that we'll be seeing 2 major updates this year.
Will the lumia 800 support the new windows mobile 8 platform?
I expect it to support Tango, but what about Apollo?
Or should i just wait for next generation nokia?
No one knows the answer to that question yet. But if any current wp7 device is going to get that update, the Lumia 800 is probably it. It is almost a wp7 equivalent of a nexus device.
But if you don't want this phone as it is now, don't buy it ;-)
I'm just waiting for nokia to start pushing out the current firmware update to my Cyan... Still only got the 7740 firmware with 8107.79 OS.
What are your experiences with the phone?
Do the phones that sell here in Denmark also have issues with batterylife, random reboots etc.?
I'm experiencing pretty bad battery time now. Yesterday I had to charge it twice to get through a full day. That is unacceptable! My old X10 holds battery for a day and half easily doing the same tasks.
I hope Nokia is very very aware of these issues and is working their asses off to get it solved.
I bought mine in Germany back in November. Kept it on 2G here in Denmark until the update that fixed the battery issues (last update).
After that update I have kept it on 3G and gotten about one and a half or two days of battery life from it.
I don't know about the status of the battery fix in Denmark. They may very well be on the phones in store (go check ). I found the demo fw for Denmark on the fw site Nokia has.
BUT if you want the phone look outside Denmark.. They are horribly overpriced here.. Some places twice the price of the same phone in Germany or England.
Regarding update to Apollo.. I see no technical reason for lumia 800 not to receive the update.
Hahah slap af en dansker tråd
Translation: "For danes only"
Roughly the same story as jlor except I bought mine in Denmark. Like arkedk, I had very poor battery life on my first phone so I returned it. The new one has up to around one and a half day of battery life with normal use. Roughly the same as with the old iPhone 3GS. I think there is a very high error rate on this battery type.
And yeah, it must be pretty popular here in Denmark
Although I'm not so sure that I should have bought this phone.
Microsoft have confirmed that all current wp7 handsets will get apollo in a response to Eldar (aka the spaz idiot who sould be shot). Tango int going to be that big really just about adding more languages and cheaper hansets to get a wider market. Apollo on the other hand looks to be even bigger than mango
Thanks for them answers.
Definatly gonna get me a winphone one day. But i'll wait a bit longer until either a new version of Lumia 800 comes out or nokia/ms whichever it is releases a firmware that fixes all these issues. Battery and camera in particular.
I'll stick to my damaged htc hero for now

Ok, I'm going to elaborate this a bit.
Why I am disappointed:
This phone is supposed to be Microsofts and Nokias big gamble to reclaim the mobile phone market. Nokia economic situation isn't very good to say the least but they are still the largest manufacturer of mobile phones world wide. However Apple is close behind and so is HTC and Samsung and they are gaining market shares.
So I had expected this phone to be Microsofts version of a nexus phone. A showcase phone if you like to benchmark other Windows phones against. In my oppionion they failed to do this by rushing it to the market. There are just too many flaws for me to be completely happy with it.
I read a lot of good reviews of WP7 devices regarding their battery life. It is supposed to lightweight and without the pletora of third party battery draining services running in the background. And it is. Many WP7 devices get great battery life. But this phone does not have good battery life. Hands down, you are not going anywhere over night with this phone without a charger. Even if you dont use it at all, you will still be cutting it very close. Even with my SGS 2 running overclocked at 1600 MHz I could easily go up to 3 days if I was mindful of battery my usage.
The camera is usable. It's not great but good enough if the motive is more important than the quality of the picture. But it's not going to wow anyone. I had expected more from Nokia though. I am used to Nokia cameras beeing the best on the market from previous experience.
Sound quality in the jack stick is an insult. It's horrible even if you have very low standards and it will hurt your ears. If you buy this phone, go to a Telenor store and get the black BH-111 bluetooth headset for 199 kr. It has a decent sound output if you throw away the earbuds that come with it and get some better ones. (The tranciever is detachable and has a mini-jack output and a build in microphone)
But there are some good things about the phone too:
WP7 is an absolute joy to use. I love it. I come from the SGS 2 and I did a lot of modding, exceeding 2 GB of custom firmware downloads each month. But I don't miss that at all with this phone, because everything just runs smoothly. I have had a few app crashes, mainly starting settings and the browser, but I can live with that.
I like the design and the build quality is pretty good although the buttons do feel flimsy on some devices. I am not too fussed about that though. The curves makes the phone nice to hold, but the 4 corners aren't that comfortable when you hold it for longer periods of time like 5 minutes plus. The curved glass is great though and it sits close to flush with the rest of the phone. The plastic feels nice when you hold it and looks pretty good too.
Call quality is pretty good in my oppinion and so is the antenna. I get better signal strength with this phone than I did with the SGS 2.
Bottom line: I expected a better device from Nokia. There is no way in h*** this phone will last for two weeks on stand by which is in fact what they claim on their web site and even if you call Nokia Care.

Good idea ;-)
The batter is bad compared to other devices yes. My Xperia Play I could easily get two days out of. Even three. Even so I charged every single night because I want full juice at the start of every day. So the worse battery life does not really affect me even though I know it's there. The camera and audio is confirmed by Nokia to be adressed on future seperate updates that hopefully will fix the issues.
But whats the point really if the majority of the userbase are still complaining about bad batterylife.
I'd say camera/audio comes in second until the phone can last more than 24hours on whats supposed to be regular usage. I hope its faulty software and not hardware.
For all 3 parts, battery/audio/camera
Amen.
I'm not too optimistic about the battery issue being software related.
I agree the battery is very bad. I'm coming from a phone that used 1% battery in 3 hours standby time. With very minimal use I could use that phone for a week without charge but I charged it every night anyway. Coming to this is a world of difference.
I'm just saying that I can live with it.
With light to medium use I am getting one and a half days use on 3G. My LG 900 struggled to last 10 hours.
got this phone 3 days ago and experiencing absolutely retarded battery life. not getting more than 6-7 hours with MINIMAL usage and all chats logged off. WTF Nokia?
PS: My other phone is the Galaxy Note which has phenomenal battery life.
Im not from Denmark...but I am close enough
I bought the NL800 a few days ago with fw 11501, and have no problems with battery at all, and I am on 3g all the time, I play music, surf, update for email every 1 hour, and my battery last aprox. 1 and a half day..And that is what I would expect from this device with my use.
Only thing bugging me right now, is of course the brightness bug and the poor quality in music playback. But those are scheduled to be fixed, so if that don't take forever, then the NL800 is a keeper for me.
But on another side..the screen is a tad small, but I will get used to it...if not, I will probably get the NL900/910 or w/e they decide to call it in europe
Same as above, i have firmware 11501, and at first battery was bad. But the more i use the phone let it go right down and charge it seems to have been last longer. So far i have been using it for 15 hours. Listening to music, facebook, emails as soon as they come in. 3G, texts, facebook chat. I am a really heavy user just now as its the honeymoon period. But anyway, the only thing that is really annoying me is the camera and the audio. I listen to my audio with headphones on (Dr. Dre Beats) so i get the base im after. But it shouldn't take a £80 pair of headphones to get the audio quality im after. Nokia get an update out now!
my lumia will arrive tomorrow, and then i will test the battery life agains my radar and my titan, my titan's battery last for atleast two days with minimal usage. same goes for the radar.

Second rezound still getting toasty... Opinions?

So, i will make this blunt... This non overclocked phone gets hotter than any other mobile device i have tried...
I am already on my second one, after number one hit 125 while sitting on my desk. This one has hit 114, which is still unacceptable really, since the room is climate controlled to around 74...what happens when I use it in the summer??
Now, by virtue of need (infrastructure tether) , I am using the ICS beta, but I cannot believe it will effect it that much. I have a 3.7v battery, so that should be good.. I will admit that I am in a building that does not do well for 4g, but frankly, my phone burning itself up just searching for a signal is unacceptable as well...
I am about ready to throw in the towel and try a GNex, even though its radio problems scare me too...Any advice guys?
what apps are running, also is this while it is charging?
Just want to start with a big thanks for all of your work over on the nook boards. The overheating has been an issue since the start. I am on my third because of it. I only reach high temps when playing games. I can stream movies all day long, and never get over 110. I am waiting for an aftermarket battery that can handle the drain from this beast phone. I guess it depends on what you will use your phone for. Glad to see you here, and hope you stay. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck....

Most apps won't affect temperature in any real way.
Tethering requires broadcasting wifi signal, and equivalently large wifi broadcast (broadcast SSID, and all data) at an equal speed to the ultra-fast 4g.
Now, this 4g phone (as well as ANY OTHER LTE PHONE RIGHT NOW) will overheat if you download a 300-500MB file at a fast 4g speed (like 25 MBit for instance).
Overheat. Untouchable.
Wifi tether (even on 3g) will overheat a phone if you're using a decent amount of data (rather than using it for short bursts).
My HTC Eris, I had to leave the back battery cover off, and put a cold can of soda (with a paper towl in between to stop moisture) to keep it from overheating.
The Rezound will get so hot that you literally can't touch it.
Charging WHILE you tether will make it a lot worse, as the chemical activity within the battery (to charge it) is going to increase heat. Add that to 4g cell phone connection, and the wifi antenna getting hot broadcasting, and you've got a 125 degree phone (which IS hot enough to start breaking solder points).
If you have it OFF the charger at that temperature, you will notice that the notification light is now flashing orange/green back and forth. This means that the unit is overheating and should be shut off, immediately.
Get the extended battery to hang out and wireless tether for a while. It generates a whole lot less heat if not on the charger, and seems to (maybe due to the case that has more space for air in it) not heat up quite as much, in my experience.
Tethering can overheat your phone. 4g can overheat your phone. Add charging to that, and it doesn't matter how many rezounds (or GNEXes) you get. These things have no real ventilation, and there's no indication that they're going to start designing them with good ventilation that I know of.
Good luck, power user. Users like you force them to think about their poor designs and improve them. But it definitely won't handle a lot of 4g tethering without overheating. I'd expect that, without ever even having a Rezound (even though I have one).
They say 130 is the kiss of death for the Rezound but even if you're peaking in that neighborhood I'd swap out the phone for a new one. 120-130 degrees...That's like keeping lava in your phone and hoping it doesn't melt.
I hit 130 with my Inc1, and it was fine. Just navigating, not charging, for 30 min did it lol.
Mine heats up excessively and burns thru battery even sitting idle with airplane mode enabled and GPS turned off (damn Verizon and their location agent they snuck in with the update). The issue here is:
A) I'm not using it nor touching it period for a few hours at a time and its still already below 30% battery without my having used it.
B) yes I have an extra battery but when I try to switch out batteries it goes into a bootloop and won't recognize the Sim card for the next half hour.
These are my problems. I have yet to exchange it cause let's be honest...who here enjoys setting up a whole other phone? Should I seek a replacement?

Back it up to your ext card and exchange. Don't forget to hard reset. They are sending refurbished units with prev owner data out there. Should only get hot when playing intense games or streaming lots data.
I had this heating and severe battery loss problem. There were times my phone would run fine and other times when it would lose 40% battery in 30 minutes. It seemed to be worse when I was moving around the city (changing towers???). I even had one experience where I turned the phone off and it continued to generate lots of heat until the battery died while supposedly powered off.
I tried every stock and rooted GB rom (no ICS) on XDA and a few not on XDA. I finally "fixed" it by RUU'ing my phone to the latest OTA, rerooting and reinstalling all my apps (no TiB). My phone now runs about 16 hours on a charge and only gets slightly warm (never hot) when you would expect it to.
I did a fair amount of reading and never did find an answer but my suspicion is that something between the rom and radio got out of sync resulting in the rom not controlling the radio properly. No science. Just a theory...
Hope this helps someone, somewhere. I know I've gotten lots of help from others on here.
Thanks!
Had many heat concerns/ issues with my rezounds in the past, now have a phone that games at about 115. My opinion after much research is that a 115 peak is about normal for this generation of phones (Gnex, S2, etc). Anything better than this is not the norm and if you get one that stays cooler, it's just luck. I had one that used to get around 150 so at 115, I never even notice anymore. My rule of thumb is to just keep exchanging the hot ones until you get one in the comfort zone. Unfortunately, it's just the reality we're dealing with until they start equipping better cooling solutions.
OK, first I think we need to understand if people are talking F or C when they throw out numbers like 124. If that is C, you have a seriously defective unit. If that is F, that is like moderately hot tapwater, and neither too hot to touch nor hot enough to damage solder joints. If it were, the computer I'm typing this on would be dissolving in my lap.
Welp
I have many a thread out there on this topic. I did 3 swaps for new units during my extended "no regrets" window, and this past week got 2 different refurbs for comparison. Here is my 2 cents (but based on a LOT of research and testing):
1) These phones run hot. If you look hard enough at XDA you will see people posting along the lines of "I don't know what you are talking about, I use my Rezound to chill a beer" and other such. You might be best to ignore those people.
2) There are some VERY bad Rezounds out there, but those are easily found. Those that jump to 130 straight off because they started to download some updates gotta go back. That was refurb 1.
3) My experience is that idling at 75-80 will produce 106 on a short HD game, 110-120 on a longer HD game. You might get 113 on Navigation. It will heat up to 100 on surfing (longer if you have more), but otherwise topping out at 120. If you fit within this, stop your search, and try to enjoy your phone.
Again, just my 2 cents.
I haven't done extensive testing, but I have noticed that when my phone has overheated it has always been when I left something running on it when I locked the screen. I've started hitting the home button every time I put down the phone for more than a few minutes and I haven't had many problems. I definitely get toasty when I play games while charging though.
As someone else already mentioned, the phone needs to get quite a bit hotter than most people are experiencing before it starts having problems. With how small the phones I would expect you would receive an instant 1st degree burn from touching it before the phone actually had problems. 150 C is somewhere around 302 F. For reference, I usually solder 400 F.
My first rezound got around 135 degrees I took it back the next day.

This laptop is running at 120F just looking at this website, and it has active cooling.
Imagine a 1.5GHz dual core PC and then unplug all the fans, including the one on the CPU, and then close up all the openings in the case. Do you think it might get a little warm?
Not only do you have the CPU generating heat, but the more current you draw from a battery, the hotter it gets. And we all know how this phone can draw the battery.

There is something wrong with your phone. I swap batteries instead of charging, swapping out 1 extended battery for another (got them onsale at verizon when they were 20 bucks), and the phone boots up in about a minute.
If it is bootlooping, then I would try a hard reset first, then contact verizon and tell them about it.
As far as the OP goes, if you are in a poor signal area, I have read in multiple places that phones use more battery and generate more heat if you are in a poor signal area.
Swapping this for a Nexus will probably get you no 4g at all.
I wouldn't worry about the phone unless it was consistently getting so hot that the LED starts flashing amber.
My Rezound has peaked at 140 according to System Tuner Pro. I was charging and web browsing as soon as I woke up, like what I'm doing now lol. Was on 3G. Also, I wasn't overclocked at all. Governor wasn't even on performance lol.

lol dude, there is no point in ignoring us people who say our rezounds run cold, because of the fact that there's rezounds out there that don't exhibit behavior like yours.
i've seen all of your threads, and commented in all of them, and you got 3 shotty phones, plain and simple man. my phone never reaches over 100, even with over an hour straight of screen on browsing, facebooking, youtubing, gaming etc. so there, i have a normal rezound. it's from launch day, and it's never given me any problems like that whatsoever.
so no, don't ignore us who have cool running phones, because there IS such a thing..some people just have really bad luck dealing with it.
also keep in mind that the past two phones you got WERE refurbs. you do realize the refurb pool is gonna be full of hot running rezounds, since a lot of people returned the phone due to heat problems, right?
I believe some of the Rezounds get hot due to software issues. My phone will stay room temp and run for 16+ hours on a standard battery while running any GB rom . Once I flash any ICS rom my battery averages 90 to 120 degrees. As it is charging next to me right now, it is sitting at 104 degrees while doing nothing. I could switch back to a GB rom right now and it would be sitting around 80 degrees. So I believe some if not most are software/firmware issues. I am not saying their aren't ones with hardware issues but it can't be all of them.
I have ran the OTA update and am running Senseless ICS.

Battery gets HOT. Normal?

After a little smooth talking to a vzw rep, I was sent a rezound in place of my Tbolt.
I love the phone and its speed but I noticed that the battery gets very hot when the screen is on. Coming from a Tbolt I can say that my phone never got over 36 degrees even when tethering for hours. The rezound gets to 38-40 from 1 hour of continuous use (screen on) but no tethering. I have the 3.7 battery. The same thing happens on custom rooms and stock.
Now, I read in tons of places that this phone gets hot but very few provide numbers.
Is this normal or did I get a lemon?
It's normal'ish. Depends on how hot it gets. If you're losing skin or smell something burning it's too hot and you need to exchange it. If it's just warm then you're probably good.
There are a couple threads on this in the forum. Just do a search for battery and will find what you are looking for.
I see threads about really really hot batteries, but mine is generally quite cool. I never use 4G really, but I can tether 3G all day long and it never really gets warm. With screen on for awhile - like playing a game or browsing the net - it does get warm but nowhere near "hot" like my old Eris used to get...
I think the rule of thumb is if it gets above 120°F you need to start taking a look at what is going on.
Well, thanks everyone.
I haven't gotten to 120 yet but im easily at 113-115.
Do you guys think its the battery, meaning should i shell out the $ for a new one since i got the phone practically free from VZW, or could it be some kind of heat sink issue and i need a new phone?
Has anyone had to replace one for heat issues or did you just change the battery and everything was normal?
I exchanged my first one for heat. Probably just could have exchanged the battery in hindsight. Mine was getting in the 140 degree range, so hot, even on the charger i would lose about 3% battery/minute, until it cooled down. My new one is running about 120 with hard use, but I've been running an overclocked kernal, but underclocking to 1.4ghz, and that seems to have helped keep it under 110 now. I'm running the 1.7 kernal on joelz senseless ICS rom, set to 1.4max in the CM9 cpu controller built into the rom.
There are other threads where this has been discussed already, but if you have a defective battery Verizon will replace it. Likewise with a defective phone.

One of the biggest turn offs of HTC phones are the cheap housings they offer...plastic???!?!? Um, no thanks I'll take the heat dispersion aluminum of a Motorola

You may have a bad phone. I just had to swap mine for a new one. My old phone worked great for the first month but then started getting hot and chewing through batteries. I did some tests comparing my phone to my wifes and I would go through the battery 3x faster than hers did. Her phone was always cool to the touch too. I did try her battery as well and that's how I was able to determine it had to be the phone and not the battery.

Will all Nexus 6Ps eventually bootloop?

After looking at several posts in XDA and Reddit, it seems that the BLOD or BootLoop of Death is happening to devices everyday as we approach the 2 year mark of the N6P release. Seems like a hardware issue or maybe a combination of both. My question is that do you guys think that this issue is actually a large number of lemons or that there is really a design flaw. Will all 6Ps eventually BLOD? Is it a matter of If or When?
Also it seems that the batteries were indeed pretty bad, with 4 users that I know personally all experiencing the degradation.
Well, it's not all 6P's. I bought my 6P last January 18 months + and I still get 6.5 to 7 hours of screen on time. Using Accubattery my estimated capacity is still 88% 3,028mah. I can run my phone to 10% no reboots or shut downs. It's really in how you take care of your battery.
And before you ask, no I haven't changed my battery out. I've never opened my phone due to the fact I want to sell it soon and afraid they heat gun would warp things on the phone.

Curious if you've seen or heard anything that'd validate your fear... it's certainly reasonable to be cautious, and it does NOT look like an easy process by any means but why the heat gun? It's a very common tool to use for jobs like this.
But to be clear, I too worry the phone won't look/feel the same after a successful battery replacement.
Of course skill levels vary greatly.

I've seen or heard nothing, but since I'm upgrading to OP5 I was going to sell my 6P to help cover some costs. Looks like they are still selling for about 300-350. That's a nice chunk off the 540 of the OP5. My phone shows zero signs of wear and have never once dropped a phone. It looks like it came out of the box last night and plan to keep it that way for sale.

Gotcha. And thats a hell of a deal! I've been thinking of upgrading, OP5 is really tempting. If I got $350 for my 6p itd be like a 45% discount. Much better than the trade-ins carriers give you.
Edit-No it's like a 70% discount! $539 for 128 gb 8gb ram. For some reason I thought the base model came in at around $700

Really glad to see that you've preserved your battery well. I had to repair/replace my mobo and battery under warranty but I'm worried that the issues will happen again eventually due to poor manufacturing.
I just saw this over at the google tracker and wanted to share it.

For those of you hit with this problem and who have been denied warranty or are having no joy with either Google or Huawei, I have found a solution, albeit not the best of solutions but one that will have at least have a 60% chance of bringing back to life your Nexus 6P.
So after running some solid tests over the last week and abit on a few Nexus devices hit with the BLOD, I have found the following:
* BLOD Issue is not a software related Issue, Well not in full only in part, 6.0.1 handles and reacts to the sudden voltage drop that happens with the shockingly bad battery in our phones, it reacts to the loss differently so something changed in the newer versions 7.X.X that must trigger the battery to do something different and then causes the phone to BLOD, though the 6.X.X train was not entirely immune from it, the phone would hold up longer.
* Through various tests both with electronic hardware and software on the phone, you can physically watch the battery health drop sharply on a daily basis, these batteries are really that bad.
* The OEM Battery is a POS, when it gets put under load the Voltage tanks and tanks sharply, when it is not under heavy load and running at <31deg/cel the phone will work but only if the following conditions are meet... (1) The motherboard has not been fried by the battery shorting it out, a small IC chip appears to get damanged by it from what we can tell when we did testing on about 4 phones, but not on every phone or (2) the battery health is well enough to keep powering the phone.
* Here is where the problem gets interesting, the more the battery gets put under load, the more it degrades and rapidly, my current Nexus 6P 128GB Frost White version which is getting replaced on Monday by Google is down to 36% battery health, meaning if it drops below 60% battery life the phone just shuts down, so to prevent it from going into bootloop I have to keep it above 60% and each day the battery health is dropping even more roughly a 1% very two to three days at the moment.
* So we decided to put in a Generic battery into one of the 64GB versions that is stuck on BLOD, and it was nothing more than a battery from HK some cheap no-name of eBay, and BOOM! The phone boots up and comes to life again...
* However I have noticed a pattern on three devices I tested this on over the last week, I think the original battery at some point ends up damaging the PCB (Motherboard) and from what we could observer this would be the norm, if your battery is spiking and doing all sorts of things it shouldn't be, it has the potential to fry other components. There isthree of us doing these tests with one being an electronics engineer and the other two of us just being tech heads who repairs phones as a hobby.
* Now if we put back in the OEM battery, guess what? The phone would not boot up, it would just BLOD and on the meters the battery would just spray out wild voltage and all over the joint, these are really crap and awefully bad batteries that Huawei have put in the Nexus 6P, In fact we are not sure why they dont blow up like the Note 7 phones did, given how erradic the voltage spikes are.
* I can safely say that the Huawei made Nexus 6P has a huge problem with the installed battery, which by extension is also causing electronics to fail if it gets caught in the BLOD for too long and overheats the phone. My advise, if your phone goes into BLOD then don't strain, stop using it stright away, dont stree the phone too much, get the battery replaced ASAP, find someone who knows how to open it and replae the battery inside of it with a $7-$16 battery that you can get of eBay, this will at least bring your phone back to life.
I have spent about $400 on testing this to get to the bottom of it, having to buy batteries, run multiple tests, and also buy broken Nexus 6P Phones, at least I can get some of it back by selling the phones that have been brought back to life I guess.
Good Luck peeps, and my advice is to stay away from any Huawei Phones, because if has happened to this phone which was supposed to be a flagship, then it can happen to other Huawei phones if they are using the same or similar batteries, unless they knew all along and have changed them.... Which now makes me wnt to buy other broken Huawei phones and see if they have changed them.
Cheers,
David.

Yeah, fortunately I haven't had any issues with hardware on my phone. I'm curious if we'd ever see numbers hardware failure rate.
I've loved my 6P. I'm gonna miss the front facing speakers and QHD display. I may not notice the difference in 1440p to 1080p done I don't need with VR.
I share the same experience as Eric214, I have the phone since November 2015, my Accubattery show 93% 3191, I have all update installed thru OTA. Never rooted or installed custom ROM, here is my stat from Accubattery

I have literally never gotten that much sot on this phone, I feel like even if I didn't install any apps and left it in airplane mode I still wouldn't.
My new s7 edge gets me crazy battery life, but the 6p has been disappointing as far as battery life goes.
I think the bootloops and battery dissipation are caused by overheating of the 810, though that's just my professional opinion. Components don't like heat, especially when packed so closely together.
I had this battery issue after 14 months, replaced it 10 days ago - AccuBattery said my battery had something about 40%, now it says 101%. Everything back to normal.
Funny thing is: a month ago, AccuBattery showed 88% as well, everything working fine. Suddenly, 52% and the shutdowns began (no BLOD). I lived with this scenario for 15 days (battery health going down fast), almost bought an iPhone to replace it. Digging around I found a post from a Brazilian dude that brought its N6P back to life buying a battery from a given seller in a known online platform here and I decided to give it a try - battery and replacement costed 12% of what I paid on my phone. I expect to have it working until Pixel 2 pops up.
I'm in the group that after just 14 months my battery is at 67% of it original capacity and my SOT is around 2 hours. The worse battery performance of any phone I've ever owned. And I take care of my battery rarely will I let it drop below 60%, as I try to avoid deep discharges that harm battery longevity.
But no boot looping thus far.
as for the long post mentioning updates from MM to Nougat, i believe that the only thing i defintely did notice was with the battery behavior, the first weeks it took much longer to fully charge the battery , and it freaked me out.
now it is kind of normal again, i rooted my 6p the day i have got it haha.
i love flashing custom roms/kernels.
had the 6p for about 10 months now, i love it and really hope that it won't let me down quick.
at least another year would be nice, or 2.
So according to what @cyberedward mentioned from Google tracker replacing EOL battery with new Huawei made battery is like setting timer in a time bomb to another value ...
I don't know if they'll all bootloop but the battery is crap. After my experience that I documented in another thread, Id doubt anyone who's used the phone for a year has a battery thats holding anywhere close to full capacity.
Mine also shuts down at 20%. Now 4 days out of warranty. I'm gonna fight with the people at Huawei to get it replaced but best case scenario, I have to find a temporary phone for however long it takes to get it fixed.
3 year old phone?-I guess cut your loses.
But within a year?... complete BS! It's defective and they should recall them all.
***And to the OPs original question--what sucks is theres no known cause for the bootloop so you could get the battery fixed and within days, weeks, months you might also deal with that.
