Dev forum rant - HTC EVO 3D

Now with Poll!

I really don't blame him -_- I don't know how these development forums get so off topic. Just think of the benefits of clean threads.. Noobs and vets alike could find the info they need with ease! We wouldn't have to post the same info over and over to keep it current! Now I love thanking my devs, and telling everyone how kick ass my favorite roms are, but lets learn from CM7 and start some threads in the general forum. Maybe we could even have a rom discussion forum! How cool would that be?

Maybe talk to a admin
I think it may help over time.. but just like all sections people post in the wrong section or triple post in every section.
And most people around here are to lazy to use HTC unlock method because they will have to flash from a computer. Let alone flash a rom... then talk about it on a different sub-forum....
Ill +1 the idea
Anything at this point to relieve tension in some threads and make the moderators jobs easier is a good thing in my mind

That's alot of work to sticky and link every thread tho. Lol
I vote xhausx should do it!

But then the GSM people will want their own thing to. Uhh could be a mess...

Honestly, GSM and CDMA should just be two complete separate forums. Different General, different Q&A, etc

It would take an admin to add forums though and that would be a mess with how many people there are working on multiple devices

Yeah it was strange coming back here when I traded my epic touch
They really have nothing that can mix so what's the point of having them share general, themes, and Q/A sections.

I helped get the G2X forum opened before its release date. I did my one good deed this year.. lol
But you should talk to jay and see if he can start to sticky threads in Q/A for now. And you can help keep them up to date
Only joking tho lol

Yes the Q&A probably has more potential.. i like this idea.. but general rom specific comments wouldn't belong there.. I dont feel its my place to contact anyone about this.. I'm barely not a noob.. but if anyone would like, please contact someone!

That is so sweet!!! That was contained in their q&a subforum so no new forum would be needed. So who's responsibility is it to start the q&a thread? I noticed some were started by a mod while others were by the rom developers.
It might be worth making this thread a poll so mods can get a gauge of public opinion about this. Personally I would vote hell yes!

I encourage devs to start a separate thread from the actual rom thread for off topic q&a type stuff. Miui has it here with the miui one stop shop thread. Cm had it for the most part in general. I support the separate thread idea.
And if only jay, haus and I were mods here.. Where is that petition?

I for one offered to help you, just not in this section. Telling people to F... off doesn't help either, in fact it's worst. While people are tired of getting flamed for posting in the wrong section people are also tired of sorting through Q&A threads to find threads that actually have to do with development, that's what we have sections for. I for one try to be civil with these sort of things, and while it's primarily the job of the moderators to move and or close threads as community members we have to police ourselves as well. The rudeness on both sides should stop, but....people should post in the correct sections too
Edit: I see the mods moved the thread, all is well that ends well.

Agreed, takes 10 posts to post in dev section. His 11th post is this crap!
I've been a member here for a long time, but do not speak much as most questions I would have about any of my devices have clearly been discussed.
I also understand where new members would not know much about whats going on at times, but its nothing more than a simple search. I (and all other members new/old) have to search like everyone else. Its really not hard.
Its also believed with the great devs that are doing what they can (and I THANK YOU for that) to get root available for our device. I'm SURE they will have something up (as in a new thread) that they have achieved what we have been waiting for. Its going to happen. Be appreciative that we even have devs that are making the time to find out all that they can. Without them, we'd be in a world of hurt.
Just my .18 cents.
You 'section police' people are fkn pathetic.
Seriously hate coming to this forum now.

Think of "development" like a business...professionalism is important in business, no? There is a job that is being done here.
If you are looking for the tavern take it to General, if you are looking for the visitors assistance center take it to Q&A. This is all spelled out in the rules. If you have no "developing" to contribute to the "development" please take it elsewhere.
Posting non-development related posts is like showing up drunk to work, and your post is like an even drunker guy proclaiming how BS the professionalism is at said business.
I'll shut up now, as this is unrelated to development.

Basically what they are trying to tell you is to post in the correct place (General Discussion). This is the development section. To be honest, it took a mighty long time to get back to normal due to the fact that noobs and cry babies were *****ing about s-off which had everything out of whack. Now that XDA is coming back to life, I'm pretty sure members who have been around for a while would like to see it remain that way. Just be patient grasshopper. We just got root the other day. Let the developers bring you a stable kernel first then we will see SBC soon after.
My ''xDU4L C0R3 SH00T3Rx'' shot you down in 3D!
Great kernel. Thanks for making such a stable, fast and battery efficient kernel. Your the best kernel dev evarrrrr! I have a request and you better hurry. Agreed. The OP was unarguably development-related, and this was the correct place to post it.
Those whiners who incessantly demand that such posts be removed from the dev section have grown blind to the mission of xda, and would become dangerous and tyrannical power freaks if ever given mod status, and would quickly destroy the dev forum just as thoroughly as what almost happened a few weeks ago in this very forum. Xda exists to further development of the operating systems on our devices. The OP wants devs to see his request, and that's a legitimate expectation, so I can't fault him for posting it here. How many devs ever even visit the General Discussion forum?
Rant over.

This is posted in the wrong section but people don't need to be assholes about pointing it out. Is life so miserable that people must find satisfaction by being a **** to others on the internet? Ya'll need to find something else to do to feel better about yourselves.

Request for mods - add links before closing threads

Mods, when you close a thread for duplicating information/questions/topics, can you link to the thread that has the original information/answers? It becomes difficult when you are searching the forums for an answer, and you find threads asking the question you need answered, but all they have are a post from a moderator saying "Already been asked. Locked."
They would prob expect you to do a little of the work to find the topic or information YOU are looking for ..they r not secretaries

That was the point. When you try to do a search you get a lot of results with questions but no answers. This makes it difficult to do your own "work".
That's why its called "work".. If it was easy then you'd already know how to do it... Part of the experience is finding wrong threads that may not pertain to what you think they should, but you learn (how to search on your own and not have everybody cater to you) regardless.

Clutter does not make anything better. Not the board and not the users' experience.
I've never had an issue..usually I can even google and find an xda thread about what I'm looking for..I guess everyone's expectations are different..regardless its not the mods job to do it for you

I can generally find my answers too. But once in a while there will be a hot issue that lots of people ask about. Their questions usually contain all the key words, so search results come back filled with clutter.
A moderators first job is to protect the board and the integrity of the data. It is also a mod's job to help make sure the board provides a good user experience. Somtimes that means cleaning up threads. This might include merging them, moving them or deleting them. If a mod knows infor exists elsewhere then he already knows where it is. To expect him to put that link into a thread he locks is _certainly not_ too much to ask.
Hint: I run a forum too, and have several moderators.
What if the mods merged the threads and shot the op a PM letting him know with the link to the thread. I've had a mod do that for me once here in another section. It was very helpful. Just a thought.

we dont typically do this b/c at times it makes a mess when merged, is a complete hassle to do, and also more importantly wouldn't teach people to take a few extra min to look around and find what they are looking for on their own and learn...
and the reason you dont see a link a lot of the times when threads are closed b/c other threads are already present......its b/c 9/10 times the thread that they should of posted in to begin with was on the first page of the very same section they post in....
Also we dont always have the time to pull up and copy the link to the thread for the user...

Ramjet, your answer was great. You took the time to guide this guy in the right direction and even told him the thread starters name to help more, also adding that download links were there and notified him that this is the wrong place for a question. If someone couldn't find the thread with the info you provided, they don't need to be modding their phone anyway. I see you around here helping anyone that needs it. Good job.
Twisted, what's the sense in getting on Ramjet? He's not a troll by any means and was only trying to help. He probably didn't post a link because of the good directions he gave in finding it. The guy probably found the thread before you ever posted your link. Troll me if you want but that's just my 2 cents.

Why help? This is a community that's built on helping and learning (at least its supposed to be). I spent months asking stupid questions and then I got to the point where I could start helping. We need to let the mods sort out where the posts belong.
If I were on vacation and went to a gas station to buy beer and I didn't see any on the shelves, I might ask the clerk if this is a dry county. They would say yes or they'd say no we're out. I wouldn't expect the clerk to say "go do some f..king research".
