Hi Frnds,
I am newbie in SGS2 Family i bought Samsung Galaxy S 2 and update my first firmware update with official update 2.3.4.
So my Latest firmware is : PDA:KI4 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KH1(DBT)
Now i want to update it with 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 as official firmware is taking to give update on my country and right now i m in india.
I don't know about which Rom m i have and what kernel i m using.
So kindly please please let any friend help me which kernel or rom should i upgrade with so ill be having latest firmware update on my SGS2 mobile.
Please pls help me.
If you updated via KIES, you have the stock Samsung ROM. You can see the kernel in settings -> about.
If you want something that isn't available from KIES, you have to flash a custom ROM, pick one from this list. I think the only one that is 2.3.7 is CM7 (and maybe MIUI), those are AOSP ROMs, a tad different from Samsung ROMs, so I wouldn't advise them for a newbie.
Other than this, please read around the forums, most of the questions were already answered, and no one likes lazy and stupid people asking lazy and stupid questions.

Following detail i get when i say on my mobile settting->about.
Baseband : I9100XXKI1
Kernel version : [email protected] 143 #2
Build Number : gINGERBREAD XWKI4
Ok ill not go for 2.3.7 but can u pls pls help me from where i can download 2.3.6 kernel which is compatible with my phone as i have (DBT) version German.
Actually there are so many thread i just have confused what to download pls show me one way rest ill findout promise ....
Sorry if i broken any of forum rules.
thanks
At the moment for India there is no official 2.3.6/7 available and if you look at the firmware your phone has you will see that it has a german csc(DBT).The only way to get to what you want is to flash something like KK5 and then a custon ROM with a built-in multi-csc package that contains the csc for your region or one that would at least do the same job.XDA have INU as indias csc although a neighbouring countries csc will quite often do the same job.Seeing as your phone is on a german firmware(DBT) Kies will search for the latest german update unless you want to flash it.

Look in the development section. There you will find the things you want to know. Flashing roms involves risks, so you should start learning what everything means. It will save you a lot of problems.
Give me alteast on way or that thread link only

Why do you want to update when you have just got a new phone ? You will hardly notice much, if anything, by updating. Use your phone as it is for a couple of weeks, find out what you like and what you don't like. In the mean time read about all these threads here regarding rooting, flashing methods, various ROM/themes etc.
Is it really that hard to find?

Everything you need is in that thread. Read read read.

If you dont want to flash a custom ROM you could go to the link below and flash from the "Frankinstein" section at the bottom the KK5 firmware then factory reset your phone, boot to download again and flash the India ODD KF3 CSC from the csc section given at the bottom and then when its done you need to do another factory reset again. This will give you KK5 with your local csc.Thats what I did on KH3 here in Spain to get my csc(FOP).Take into mind that these are not without risks if you dont follow the rules of flashing.A nearby countries csc will also do the job just as well so flashing KK5 and then a custom ROM with a multi csc package is always a go but its your choice.KK5 with the csc flash will be more close to stock looking and custom ROMs bring more mods and themes.

Hi ,
I am using SGS2 from Germany (unbranded)
My initial firmware for KE2 and I then flashed KF2.
My current phone config is
Code:
PDA : I9100XXKF2
PHONE : I9100XXKF2
CSC : I9100XAKF2
Ofcourse as always for me, Kies is not working for firmware upgrade (is it because i have it rooted?)
Anyway I was checking the fiwmare details on CheckFusdownloader and found out today that the firmware for Europe is
Code:
I9100XWKF3/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE7/I9100XWKF3
After downloading the file, the TAR looks like this
Code:
I9100XWKF3_I9100XXKE7_I9100XEUKD1_HOME.TAR
My questions are:
1. How can I map the above with Phone / PDA / CSC etc?
2. Is this the new firmware than KF2?
3. IS it worth moving to this firmware?
4. Would I be able to root?
My battery life seems to be somewhat improved from KE2 to KF2.
Thanks
The newest kernel is KG1 Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Move to KG1. Forget KF3. everyone's on KG1. Fixes battery life and other things Google talk+video.
It goes in alphabetical order efg so G is the newest KG1.
and I am assuming they are in order
So PDA then Phone then CSC.
My CSC is UNKNOWN LOL, true fact.
Latest firmware is KG2 and thats 2.3.3.
KF2 is slighly older than KF3 .
KG12.3.4 is not a Samsung release its a leaked test firmware .
Root yes read the root post in dev section ..
My view wait for 2.3.4 to be released by Samsung for next upgrade if phone is working OK .
jje
1- As long as you are on stock firmware Kies won't make any difference, rooted or not.
2- AFAIK KF2 is the newer build than KF3 and the latest available for Europe.
3- Press *#1234# to see software info.
4- I'd say you should wait for official KG1 to be released. The current one is leaked and have bugs, so better avoid it.
Regards.
Sent from GT-I9100
I'd look up Lite'ning rom 2.2 if i were you...
Roots your phone, KG1 and all in there. Also Gingerbread 2.3.4.
Works perfect for me. Why wait for the official update. Modders will implement it very fast.
Good luck!
If you change to KG1 dont bother flashing the CSC, use the one you have at the moment.
I am not sure if there is much advantage to that KF3 based rom over KF2, so if you are happy with KF2 and dont want to jump to KG1 (which is working perfectly for me, I dont use stock browser) I wouldn't bother.
Yes you would be able to root btw, just use the KF3 kernel from chainfire.
Thanks guys for your feedback
BTW whats with CSC what will happen if I mess with it? phone will get bricked? lets s say if I flash CSC from another country will i be able to go back to Europe CSC?
Is this only for language?
CSC is only a few text files and xml files with lists of networks etc .
Not really needed for phone to work and a new one can easily be flashed .

So that means i can flash any country's SGS2 firmware? Whats with baseband? have any info on that?
Baseband = modem/radio.
Yes flash any firmware and enter the networks APN manually as long as its on the same mhz it will work .
But if you flash Chinese firmware it will have Chinese keyboard etc .
PDA = firmware including kerel
Phone = modem/radio/baseband
CSC = country specifics with a list of local networks keyboard to use language to use etc .
Many firmwares are multi CSC say covering most of Europe .

Thanks mate for the clarifications
one quick question. What happens if i try to update phone with multiple basebands?

firstly use the search button with the query you have then you will find loads of the same questions that you have..but anyway go here

and then read here as well if you are going to root and want help on how to do it

follow the instructions and guides in the both of the threads and it will give you a better idea regarding the questions you want answers for
Hi,
Some providers hold back on updating their Android releases (they need time to add their bloatware)... a good was around this is by flashing either a custom rom or a base Samsung one. Flashing is a pretty simple task. I might suggest starting off by reading this thread .... Enjoy
thanks guys for your help.

U can Update upto 2.3.6 Officially
There is no 2.3.7 for ur XXKI4
search in this it may be useful
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
All 2.3.7 offers over 2.3.6 is support for Google Wallet for the Galaxy Nexus. So nothing worth noting for the Galaxy S2.
So go to 2.3.6.
Dear All (JJEgan, chinnupepsi4all, ctomgee)
Thnaks for reply. But the process is not clear to me. Last time I went through few post "How to root" and upgraded my SGS2 to 2.3.3 to 2.3.5, now could you please tell me how exacetly I can upgrade it and no matter whether its 2.3.6 or anything.
I think if you cant read and understand the threads already posted on riiting, upgrading, dont bother rooting or upgrading. Connect your phone to kies, if that offers one, that's what you do.

I'm sorry Mr Ravi. I wasnt even trying to say writing, but rooting. The O and I are really close togethor my fingers. What I was trying to say anyway is that there are plenty of threads on rooting. Don't ask people to spoon feed you. You have to take some responsibility and read. It is hard to stuff up on this phone, just play around and flash away.

Hi, recently i've updated my sgs2 from android 2.3.3 to 2.3.5
this update is terrible, everything is screwed, apps fail to run, wifi connection is not possible (it never connects), it lags terribly and also all the interface was changed (really hate that blue scrolling thing)
some people say that 2.3.5 improves battery life, but i didnt notice any change, seriously
so i was thinking of going back to 2.3.3, which was awesome and i didnt have any problem with that, now i know im stupid that i used the kies update and i will never do that again
what do i need to do it?
iam from czech republic, so i was looking for some czech version of 2.3.3 on google and also on this forum but found nothing
i bought my phone from vodafone (not branded) does it affect my choice of possible firmware downloads?
thanks for any help!

Use Google search or Checkfus to find it .
Look for the original firmware codes matching the firmware on the phone .
Or even take the time to read the stock roms post and instructions .
