Tip - Shutter Button Spring Broken - HTC Titan

Be careful pulling the the phone out of the clamshell. The bridging spring for the camera button came lose and broke when I reinserted. Replaced at the store, just not looking forward to the hassles of adding another device/replacing in Zune for my music.

I also managed to break my spring as well. I sent it in to HTC though as the local ATT store didn't have any Titans in stock. At least it is easy to add devices/music in Zune.

I was actually surprised. I set Zune to forget the previous version, plugged this one in and I was dragging playlists over, no problem. I was expecting a call to MS to clear the previous phone's info so I didn't exceed the three device Zune Pass limit as I just recently added the Titan...

tg01 for 149 pounds in uk. join the tg01 club!

this the price of this phone in uk orange stores, for a pay as you go device. then unlocking it cost around 10 pound at unlockallcellulars.for this price you ve got the snapdragon cpu, a very nice lcd display(colors are better than the ones in htc hd2) and the usb host function. Come one guys!
btw, even if this phone cant phone proprely, a fix should come, and it is still a good gps , and media player.
That's if you can find one instore as they sold out of these phones on the Orange website 2 Weeks ago.
Stock instores has been running low aswell, there were only 3 left when I got mine from the orange shop in torquay. Just offering it on contract now afaik
so, the price in UK is 150 pounds (that means arround 180 euros)? i have a friend over there, maybe i can buy another one for my cousin.
i wanted to get one too, but im reading about those flashing rom issues, sounds diffcult, anyone know is there any stock near manchester? the price is really unbeatable 150 pounds thats like 1/3 of some other competitors headset

i got one yesterday in solihull birmingham they had 2 left instore i guess i was lucky when i say the price i asked not questions i just scooped up one a 1ghz cpu £150 you gotta be crazy if you dont get one.
These were available in Leamington Orange shop last week. I got one from Orange website a few weeks ago, but went into the shop to get one for my girlfriend. Thye are not perfect but still good value considering their usefullness for email, skype, messenger & media player. The main drawbacks I have are:
It's crap as phone: difficult to hear, screen locks annoyingly when you want to use touchpad, when the phone is locked and you get a call, it is impossible to answer. You have to wait till it rings out, unlock the phone then ring them back.
The motion sensor is not v responsive. I dont mind waiting half a second when switching from portrait to landscape, but sometimes it just refuses to switch.
No rdp client. I owuld like this for work, there was one on my PPC2003 devce all those yrs ago. I downloaded the finster rdp client and it doesn't work for me (yes I have installed it to the device rather than the memory card).
You can't get the Micro SD card out without removing the battery (and thereby switching it off)

I went to my bed today and i had £2.50 of credit on my phone, i woke up and i had a message from orange saying that i only had 90p of credit, please top up I am wondering what my phone was doing when i was asleep, i live by myself so i cant blame anyone else, whats going on. This is the umpteen time this has happened.
The only thing i can think of is that it is doing updates without permission, during peak times, if this is the case what can i do to stop this? Any help would be appreciated.

Call your provider and chek if you don't hav any inscription in some service.
It's easy to pud some one in some service without if he know.
In internet is just enter in one site for ex: music then pud in iscription the phone number of someone you hate and that is't.
Now hi has a some service without he know and they pick money every day. Somethink like 10p,20p or 30p every /f/ day.
All my credit was actually gone, so since i have had the phone, start of january, i have seen £4, £1.50 and £2.50 disappear from my original £10 credit. Basically i only use my phone for text messaging and using hotmail. I havent even looked at anything like music, radio etc, never mind subscribing to anything.
On the same day i lost the £2.50 i did instal the gchris 1.2.1 cab, excellent app but could the weather update have cost me the money? Or does the phone actually do updates whenever it wants, ie at peak times without asking
I did a bit of searching and installed nodata.cab and switched of orange intranet but kept orange sms/mms on.
Sorry if i am coming accross as a moaning twat here but this was my last phone, a samsung c300, if it said i had £5 of credit, i could go to sleep and wake up and still have £5 of credit.
Disable the `Orange Internet`, go to Settings > Connections > Connections > Advanced tap > Select Networks > Network Management page > use `My Work Network ` on both selections, you should be okay now.
It`s the weather update that cost you so much money.
Don`t use `Orange Internet` or you have to pay for it, use `Active Sync` to update your weather on PC instead.
If you want to use Orange Internet make sure you configure the program to use `Free connection` to update your programs.

The orange store in stevenage has a few of these left, and yesterday they had reduced the phone to £129 PAYG so an even bigger bargain.
Bargain!
I was lucky enough to get the last one of these in stock in Grimsby yesterday for 129.99+10.00 top-up. At least I assume it was the last one, they removed all the 'POS (point of sale)' as I left.
It is better than (most) of the reviews had led me to believe, a bit clunky in places, but at that price a bargain for sure.

Can I still buy the TG01 anywhere for that price?
Some smart guys some time ago bought about 10-15 models and after orange discontiued selling they sold it on ebay

Need ADVICE!! Please help.

I lost my phone last night in a yellow cab in NYC.
I had the tasker setup to locate phone when i text it a certain mssg.
I tried this morning to track down my phone but the taxi was all over the place and its nearly impossible to get my phone because even when it did stop moving...the adress it gave me was a large apt building and theres no way i can get my phone back even if i do know its in the building somewhere.....
I need any advice i can get please.
I would get in touch with the cab company.
Walk into the apartment with dual Uzis and go door-to-door until someone looks scared ****less. No, but seriously, just call the cab company, ask if anyone used the cab to arrive at that apartment or near the area, then yeah, how you confront them I'm not too sure.

The worst part about this is knowing where it is and knowing i have a limited amount of time to find it before its gone forever...and as far as i can see i think its still in the cab as ive been tracking the phone by gps and its been all over the city....I just dont know the cab medallion number and its nearly impossible to catch this cab driving around in the city.
I don't know if tasker gives you network or GPS location. There is an app called lookout plan b. You can install it from market.android.com from a computer onto your phone remotely and locate your phone with GPS. If that's more accurate, that may help you track it down easier.

Yes Entropy ive tried many times and at first it just seemed that it was still in the back of the cab unnoticed as no one was picking up. I went online and suspended my service and i also know now that the battery has died since my gps location isnt responding anymore and when tried to call goes straight to voicemail now.
One thing is that i checked my call log online and noticed there was a 911 call made from the phone yesterday at around 7pm. The phone is locked so he must have either tried to get in thru the emergency call or called 911 to report the missing phone.
Either way i called the 2 precincts in Manhattan that receive lost items and claim nothing was brought in. It seems to me that even if it was, they would not want to tell me anyway, and are really rude.
I lost my chance of finding the phone as it is dead now and the service has been cancelled. maybe if someone tries to charge it up and turns it on i can try to track it again.
I had no insurance on the phone. But i did pay for the phone with my american express gold card and they have a protection plan that covers stolen/ accidental damage till 90 days after purchase. I sent a claim to them so hopefully they will reimburse me the money paid . Then i called ATT to mail me another sim card to my house. My brother has an upgrade and i spoke to the rep and he said i can do a cross upgrade where i can get a phone for the upgrade price without having his line added to a data plan as well.
In the end i might get the same phone back for free but with having another line on my family plan under a 2 year contract. I loved that phone a lot...running your kernel and unnamed. Even if i get the same phone again...idk if it will be the same for me lol.
Also im so stupid i didnt have any nandroid backups on my comp and were only on my sd card. lucky i had titanium backup stored in my dropbox so that is good.
Also lookout for android is ****. After i realized i had lost it...i upgraded to lookout premium for 14 days free trial and tried to lock and wipe my phone. didnt work. tried to locate my phone using that as it stated it might be more accurate. didnt work. tried to use the scream function. didnt work. nothing worked and i tried searching forums and i think a lot of ppl have problems with it not working... I should have tested it out before i actually needed it.
Also thank god for 1.3.1 update that fixed the lock screen issue that i installed a couple days ago...otherwise all my info was just out in the open....im still worried tho...wish the stupid wipe function worked.

[Q View] view with no sprint = bad idea?

Hi
First please pardon my english
I'm new in all these android things, and i'm interested in buying Evo view 4g because of it's price and all it's positive review
but since i live outside us/europe (FYI i live in indonesia) i wont be able to get sprint contract
there's this 1 negative review, i'll paste it here
IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SIGN UP FOR A TWO YEAR SPRINT PLAN READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH !
If you intend to use this without connecting it to a Sprint Account there are some things you should consider before making this purchase:
1: You will NOT ever be able to update the Profile, Firmware or PRL of this device. This is very bad.
2: The Cellular network radios will always be on. They will create a SIGNIFICANT drain on your battery as they will be in constant scan mode unable to connect. There are ways around this. There is some software available on the Official Android Marketplace called "Network" that can take you to a page where you can modify the radio settings. It is not 100% reliable, and if you read through the comments on that Applications Review page you will see that it is not working for everyone. There are more permanent ways to deal with cell radios if you are willing and able to root your Evo View 4g. That is a complicated process and as of now many of the "fixes" for cell radios are PERMANENT meaning once you disable them , you can never get them back.
3: You are going to get nagged to death. Each time you boot the tablet you will be presented with a Sprint screen that urges you to activate the device. You will not be able to set your own homepage in the default browser, as, until you have activated the phone Sprint spams bloat at you instructing you to contact a Sprint Rep asap. This will happen during use as well, though it seems to happen randomly, and not very often, but it will happen if you do not disable the Radios.
4: Sprint will often interrupt whatever you are doing on the tablet to remind you that you have not activated it yet..........
5: The screen is not as sharp, vivid or responsive as that of the Best Buy Flyer.
This tablet may not "REQUIRE" a Sprint account for "use" but the features and functionality of this tablet are greatly lessened if you do not have a Sprint Account.
If you want to use this as a wifi only device this is a very poor choice of purchase. You are MUCH better off snagging a wifi only Flyer.
Bottom line the View / Flyer are great tablets, but, if you do not plan to sign up for a Sprint account this is NOT the right tablet for you. Sprint has purposefully built in crippling features to those who use it without a Sprint Account.
I am very sorry I purchased this. I really wish I had just gone with another Flyer.
I am pretty ticked off at the merchant too.......... Claiming that this does not "REQUIRE" a Sprint account to use is the same thing as saying that a Honda Civic does not "REQUIRE" headlights to drive.
Think this over very carefully...... The price really isn't that great.......

because this 14th of march my friend who lives in US will come to indonesia, it's $100-$200 cheaper to buy in US than in indonesia, so i have less than 2 weeks to decide on what tablets to buy
in indonesia CDMA have better internet quality compared to GSM, that's why i'm considering view to be my 1st android tablet, since i can't use sprint service, i'll have to inject the tablet with indonesian CDMA provider, will i miss a lot of things like the review above stated? especially #1
1: You will NOT ever be able to update the Profile, Firmware or PRL of this device. This is very bad.
Thank you
Wow, that reviewer doesn't know a thing about the tablet. All of that is completely false. Pretty much everyone around here doesn't use the device on Sprint.
1. The firmware updates come from HTC via the internet. While Sprint has a hand in approving them, they don't actually send them out. I had no problems downloading, installing, and using the OTA Honeycomb update without any Sprint service. You don't need any PRL updates if you're not using it on Sprint.
2. You can easily turn the cellular radios off - it's called airplane mode. You can still use WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS in airplane mode. There are also other simple ways to deactivate them discussed in this thread.
3. When you boot up the tablet from being turned completely off, you get a prompt to activate it, which you can quickly dismiss. There are no other Sprint prompts at any time. There's no "nagging" whatsoever. And you can even get rid of that activation prompt with root or without root.
4. There are never any interruptions to activate the tablet after the first one when booting it up.
5. The screen is exactly the same as the screen on the Flyer.
Now, as far as being able to use it on an Indonesian CDMA provider, that's something I can't authoritatively give an answer on. In the U.S., it can be successfully flashed to be used on only one other CDMA carrier - Boost - and that's because Boost uses Sprint's network. I'd say there's a good chance you may not be able to use it with any Indonesian CDMA carrier, but I can't say for sure.

One thing that kept me away from the view was the updates such as possible ICS will have to be pushed by sprint. I would assume just like a phone that the updates are controlled by the carrier and if they want you to have it. This alone makes the flyer a better deal in my opinion. This is am assumption of course. Also with out having a sim slot this becomes very limited on what carriers it can be used on. I know the flyer comes without sim access but the view is locked to sprint. The 32gb model looked very appealing at 250 but the negatives out weigh the positives.

As I mentioned in my post, this isn't true. While Sprint does approve the updates, the updates are actually built and sent out by HTC. This is the case with Android phones as well - the manufacturers build and send out the updates with the carrier's approval. The carrier does not push them out. My View has never been activated on Sprint, and I received the OTA update to Honeycomb shortly after I purchased it. It all works via the internet and has nothing to do with cellular connectivity. You'll still get any and all official updates on the View even if it's never been activated with Sprint.

The lowest I can find for current prices via a quick search is $274.94 on eBay. It's been down as low as $239 brand new a few times over the past three months, so it will probably drop again. But if you're operating in a specific time frame for the purchase, that range seems to be what they're currently going for.

longstanding GPS navigation issue with UK titan

Hi Community,
I am writing again because I wanted to share my story about my UK Titan I have had for over a year now. I had won this titan at a windows phone party provided by microsoft and i was ecstatic about winning it, it wasn't until 6 months later that the navigation on my titan started to FAIL. It simply would not lock onto my location and tell me the next turn or my continuing direction for whatever navigation software I was using.
I sent it back to HTC for repair and it was fixed actually the navigation worked perfectly but then I had an issue with a loose battery back cover and purchased some non oem covers that did not fit securely either.
So my idea on a solution for this problem was to buy another uk euro htc titan from europe which I did and lo and behold its navigation failed miserably as well! I had since sold my original uk titan and have sent my current UK titan back to htc for repair THREE TIMES, I am not kidding i sent it back to htc for repair 3 times, i wrote long explanatory letters to please test this device before you send it back to me on but obviously this request reached no one.
I have had many horror stories having my titan fail in giving me directions but the worst was when i was at a party near the border ( i live in san diego) on a very foggy night and could not see 5 feet ahead of me, I was driving aimlessly looking at my navigation begging it to lock and tell me where to go , i almost reached hte border into mexico and had to figure out on my own how to get home, and to make it worst i continued to watch my titan as i drove and the navigation came to life when i was almost home!
I have opened a new escalated dispute with HTC in that there must be some resolution to fixing this navigation issue, and that is pending. I just can't understand how my first uk titan had an initial navigation problem i sent it back for repair and it worked perfectly but sold it (which was a dumb move) only to import a new one from the uk and its navigation gps fails miserably every time.
oh and recently i figured out how to get my navigation to work, when i am in my car, i have to put my titan on the dashboard ALL THE WAY to the edge past my steering wheel and in about 20 seconds or more the navigation will start to work! and it will work perfectly, but it shouldnt be like this i shouldn't' have to play with the phone in different positions with a clear view of the sky to get it work. If i set the device say on my center console in front of the radio, it stops working again.
i have become obsessed with my phones navigation and getting it to work, i dont want to upgrade to wp8 because:
1. I love my phones big screen
2. the removable battery
3. 7.8 custom roms have much more haking/customizing freedom than current wp8
4. the titan has been "jailbroken" for custom roms
so i ask has anyone else experienced this issue? any idea or solutions on homebrew solution to fix maybe?
update resolved!
after sending my uk international titan back to HTC FOUR TIMES, they have fixed the gps hardware portion of my phone, i can now use any turn by turn nav app and it works it freaking works so happy! moderator please close this thread

[Q] Lost S3

Hey Guys,
So i bought a new unlocked S3 as a gift and left it in my car and went out for dinner and When i came back my car was broken into and obviously the phone was stolen along with other things in the vehicle. So i called the cops and filed a report but i was not able to give any info n the phone like a IMEI number. So i filed a claim with the store i bought this from and they are being a pain. So i had to call my bank and put a stop pay but there might be an issue. So i am curious to know if this phone can be tracked or not, btw there was never a sim in the phone. I have been looking everywhere searching for answers. Any info on this is helpful. I paid $700.00 for the phone and now its gone.
Thanks!

Hey there,
I'm sorry for your misfortune, but you shouldn't have left such a pricey object in your car I suppose..
You don't know its IMEI so you should contact the person to get ahold of the store he bought it from to maybe check with the store about getting the device's IMEI number in order for you to track it..
Other than that, I'm not sure there's something else you can do..
check out Lookout Plan B
Was the phone still in the box?
yes there is.
1. is your phone rooted? if yes this will make this easier, if not its okay, there's still a lot we can do.
2. even without a simcard inside the phone, did you ever set up a Google account? hopefully you still remember your info, but if you don't, and aren't able to recover it thru Google's site, PM me.
3. go to market.android.com (it'll redirect you to whatever they changed their new URL to when they renamed it play store).
4. luckily android can remotely install apps to your phone even without you having the phone (scary isn't it? lol). you're going to want to install an app called androidlost .
5. from there, visit androidlost.com and even without you having the phone, you can setup and configure the app (also scary right? lol).
6. now this is where root comes in, if you're rooted, you can do all sorts of evil things, like listen in on that dude thru your phones mic, watch him thru your cam, dial numbers from the phone, track it thru GPS, take any content out of it, delete anything inside the phone, check call logs, location history, and when you actually find the guy, you can set off a siren to max out your phones volume, and never stop blasting till you take confront that SOB face to face. of course how much of this actually depends on if you're rooted or not, like remotely formatting the SD and such, the others, no root necessary! (now is it scary? lol)
also if you plan on having more of your phones stolen in the future, you should do all this before having your carrier shut down your phone lol. (you'll have to rely on wifi for now)
also, did you buy it with a Visa? if you did, and you live in the US, even if you bought it from outside the US, your store warranty is doubled, and if that didn't fix it, they'll completely replace it up to $500 per item, up to $50,000 per year (as long as said item wasn't stolen from your car ) (
