[Q] [Poll] What root tool are you using? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hey everyone;
I am currently working on my rooting tool called NARS, and I was curious what operating system you all were working on. I'm trying to see whos using Indirects, who's using t-r-i-c-k-s, who's using mine, and who's using snowball. If you could just vote, so that us developers can have an idea of which one your looking for.

I dont see snowball in the poll yet

So, do I put down "scripts are for scrubs" or do I put down "snowball" when it comes up? lol

I was too lazy to do more than the stuff t-r-i-c-k had for the Mac. So I didn't even check the other routes.
Seriously though, my biggest concern was getting OTA update to 1.4.1 so for me it had to be the fastest way to root and get that taken care of.

I use Indirect's method simply because my primary use for the NT is reading.

Well to all my fellow leakers, here ya go..

Hi, I’m Christina, and I’ll be glad to assist you today. I understand how important it is for your device to function properly. HTC does not support leaked versions of the ROMS because of this we are unsure whether you will be able to install the new version of the ROM. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thank you for contacting HTC America Technical Support.
I hate how stupid HTC reps think people are. I sent three emails to finally get a somewhat decent response.
Now that it is quite humerous.... Thank you for that, I needed a laugh. BTW, why are you so worried about getting the OTA? The leaked v3 is very identical to the OTA.... just download that instead...

The ota wouldn't get you root anyway. The hboot image isn't updated by the ota so you would still be in the exact same spot you are right now.

haha like i mean see if anything new comes up by the time i get around to doing whatever i want to my phone. maybe if im patient then something bigger will happen
Well, the only development to come to the eris for a while is going to be new roms. root for leakers is still not here yet, and from what ive seen wont be for a bit. We already have root. and the Eris Master App makes it super simple. just get a new phone and root it. with root, you can install roms that have OTA included, plus better themes, and can do a lot more than with just 1.5 or 2.1 non root.
Just curious, how many developers are working on root for leakers?
According to VZW support's twitter account (http://twitter.com/vzwsupport), "@jfkerekes Yes, leakers should receive the OTA by 5/24. Manual download is not available. *NK"

[DEV] PS Downgrade for Nexus One

http://www.psdowngrade.com/
My idea is to use the same way Devs made PSFreedom for PS Downgrade. What we'd need to achieve and make it work ?
What is the aim to use psdowngrade for PS3 ? to downgrade firmware ? thought ps freedom what just update to be compatible with lastest ps3 update said engadget.
Yes, by allowing the user to downgrade to 3.41.
Sony wrote out the USB debug support so unless someone writes a custom firmware with it in, we're stuck at 3.41
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Well, firstly, you'll need to wait for someone to obtain and reverse-engineer the new device and work out how to get it working with generic devices, once they've done that then it might not be much work at all to patch it into psfreedom.

Exactly. The best thing we can do at this point is wait and reverse engineer the device when it comes out. Unless of course someone leaks some of the reverse engineering beforehand.
I think this will be usefull

There have been a few little things leaked in the past day that I've seen, but I don't think full working code is out there yet.
Anything useful (sources, working binaries, information) anyone finds (not just ads, demos etc of the ps downgrade working) please post here or forward them onto klutsh. As more information comes out I don't see why this couldn't be implemented into psfmod.

Waiting isn't fun is it?

Other than the "Official PSDowngrade" there isn't anything available yet. Still have to wait.... although lv2diag.self has finally been decrypted.

[Q] Pantech Breakout: Can it be rooted?

I had to upgrade my cell phone at Verizon yesterday and they talked me into getting a smartphone, so I got the newly released Pantech Breakout. It runs Gingerbread 2.3.3 and I was wondering can it be rooted? Has it been rooted? If it's not been rooted yet by someone, are there any chances that it will be since it's a low to middle-end phone? I tried Gingerbreak on it and left it running all night and all it did was stay stuck on the Rooting screen.
I need it rooted so I can replace the wpa_supplicant file and be able to connect to my ad-hoc network here at home.
Thanks for any help.
I'm curious too. Everything I've read says it can't be (yet). But I'm still searching. So far gingerbreak and superoneclick don't work =/
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Bump! Also, are there plans to have a dedicated sub-forum for this device?
Thanks
Thanks for the replies all.
@ lucf Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I'm new here and there are so many categories.
Does anybody else have this phone? If so what do you think about it? I think it's pretty awesome minus no flash and slower processor.
Yeah.....any luck with the root?
I am using right now. Not sure about root, being that I will only have it for a week or so.. its pretty nice and $49 on contract at bby isn't bad.. I am pretty sute the processor is the same as the thunderbolt processor.. the ram is less however.

No luck with the root yet, hoping someone will figure out how to do it soon, haha. I don't even know where to start or I'd look into it myself.
Did u guys know that this phone will do data and voice at the same time. Even on straight 3g.??

I'm getting this phone sometime next week. I hope it becomes popular enough that somebody might try for root on it. Every where I look more and more people are picking this phone up for cheap LTE.
When I get it I'll see what I can do, but this may require a whole new root method.
I hope to see root soon! I am sick and effing tired of seeing my wife futz with the stupid system apps autoupdating themselves and taking up precious app memory!

I have had the phone for a few days now and love it for the most part. You are right though, you have to make sure you move new apps to SD or the mem fills up fast.
I got it for free through TigerDirect, so I am not complaining too much. lol.
I keep 4g turned off unless I am surfing or using the Market etc and that VASTLY helps the battery life. Also loaded Launcher Pro to get rid of the stock UI.
All things considered, I think this is a good little phone for the price. Rooting would REALLY let it shine though, IMO.

Oh, and BTW, we now have a Recovery that works. See info here:
http://androidforums.com/breakout-all-things-root/449139-recovery-done.html

Rooting, unlocking first timer - did her homework now needs help!

So um, I posted this a few hours ago waaaaay up in the VERY general Q&A forum but now realize I can and should have put it here. So here goes:
I've read all the rules, terms, threats about what happens if you don't SEARCH first - guys I've done it all and for a long time. I have been studying up on how to root / flash my MoPhoton 4g since I got it last August. I think I'm finally ready....but now I'm afraid I'm too late. I got involved in that soak test, which installed 2.3.5. Now, if I've searched/read acs and xda correctly (and other less intelligent sites), here's where I think I am:
1. There is no way to downgrade from 2.3.5
2. Shabbypenguin's wonderfully simple and sweet One Click Root won't do the trick on 2.3.5 (and boy did I try it MANY times). Had correct drives installed, etc...but no go. I assume you guys know what I'm talking about, but I can and will paste what the script read if you need me too. Short story...got all the way to "you should have root"....but I don't.
3. Currently the only way to do it is with a root method called Torpedo....which I don't know enough about yet but I'm about to get into it... I am nervous though. Since I'm a rooting virgin I would MUCH prefer something easy like OCR.
4. And finally, even if I get root, I won't be able to unlock bootloader, again, because of 2.3.5. So no flashing anything at all (had been planning on cm7 or 9) to replace the stock OS.
Sound about right so far? If so, here's my big question:
If I can ONLY root for now, will I obtain ANY of the benefits I am looking for (mainly increasing/unleashing the SPEED I know this phone is capable of)? Also, I'd like to get free wireless hotspot too, cause if you're gonna dream, dream big.
2nd question: If all the above is correct (and I'm hoping it's not), are the odds decent that one of the geniuses around here will solve this bootloader problem sometime......soon?
Thanks in advance for any help guys!!
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Yes, you are correct that you can root with photon-torpedo, but will not be able to unlock your bootloader, (for now). I just did it a little while back, and found that using terminal emulator didn't work on my phone, and had to push the .tar file in using the command prompt on my computer with the instructions I got from here.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. When you say "a little while back" you mean when exactly? Your link was an active thread 10 months ago but it's now abandoned and the links don't work. Not a big deal tho, I know where to find torpedo.
Any help out there from a senior member or mod? Most specifically about my last two questions...

Root will allow you to use root apps, access file systems, and yes let you use the free wifi hotspot. You could also clear out the bloatware that Sprint/Moto load your phone down with. It will NOT allow you to overclock(although you DO need root you also need a modified kernel which isn't possible with a locked bootloader) Rule here about bootloader unlock of 2.3.5 is don't ask for ETA's so it may be tomorrow or may never happen. Realistically im sure it will come eventually but can put no accurate time frame behind it. Torpedo is really a walk in the park, just read through instructions and follow them and it will take you no more than 10 min.
Torpedo Root, universal deblur/debloat and zepplinrox V6 supercharger. You may not get overclocking but your phone will be significantly faster/smoother than stock.
Awesome, thank you! Hope to report back soon with successful results.

You should be able to use the bootstrap recovery to flash a rom, this won't touch the kernel, so no over clocking, but i imagine that most of them are already debloated with the supercharger script (dont quote me on that one). So there are still ways to play around with a few of the roms here anyway.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Nook Tablet root

I want a root that will JUST give me access to the Android Market/Amazon App Store. No full Android UI, no extra hacking/rooting tools, JUST the App Store(s). Does anybody know of a root that will do this?
Thanks!

Plz go read this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354487 . . imho, you want to block OTA.
Permanent?
Is there a way to UNroot it?
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630
The phrase "a root" indicates you don't fully understand what root is, which is completely understandable. We all start somewhere.
I highly suggest you read my thread here before you do anything.
OP - I originally got onto these forums a few months ago for the exact same reason: to gain access to the Market. I performed the (very easy) root method outlined in these forums and quickly realized how much of the world I had been missing on my NT. Since I rooted it, I've had an absolute blast with my NT. I know you don't want to actually root your device, but you just may want to consider it in light of how much fun you will have with it.
Just my two cents from a new guy with absolutely no experience with doing stuff like this. It's really been worth it.
