Dell streak recovery contact - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The screen on my dell streak (5.5), mysteriously cracked. Is there a way I can still look in my phone and recover any contact info that hasn't been put onto my gmail account for one reason or another? I was looking at clockwork, but I'm just a bit nervous since I'm not that savvy. The main option I'm considering at this point is to repair the screen but I want a new phone as well so I want an option that's as affordable as possible. Did you guys have any thoughts?

[Q] Bricking?

So, my Dell Streak has been sent off for warranty for the fifth time and for the fifth time I've received it back saying that it was a software issue and it has been updated. Yay! Not.
In other words what I'm saying is that I want to brick it permanently so I can get a new one since Dell have been a royal pain to deal with. Help is appreciated.
Why do you have to send your Streak to Dell for warranty? Why not just ask for replacement like others do? Where are you located anyway?

[Q] Getting replacement phone from dell

so yesterday at the gym i dropped my phone a few feet down of the elyptical and unfortunatly the lcd inside started bleeding, the glass was fine, but the lcd was obviously damaged inside, so after reading a few things on here i took a shot in the dark at seeing if dell would replace my cell phone for me, i guess i was one of the lucky ones and im getting dispatched a new phone, my question is, am i able to restore my new phone with a nandroid backup of my old my phone that i have saved, like would the phone then just be identicle at that point, does it work like that? and what would my steps be on getting my phone back to where it is, tho i am familiar with QDL tool to a certain extent and do have the drivers set up on my laptop am i going to have to re-root it then i could restore from nandroid? any advice would be appreciated! thank you so much!

That is very good for you. I wonder how much longer will we be able to get a replacement on damaged or a faulty Streak? . Whats up with Dell pulling the Streak totally from their catalog? Firstthere were onlinerumors that it was pulled for internal updates. Now the Dell.com site says "farewell Dell Streak 5, its been a long ride"' or something like that as its discontinued. Posted a question on their facebook page and still cant get an official comment.

[Q] Dell Streak 5 fully bricked - internal memory solution?

Hi, I have fully bricked my Dell Streak 5 device - it's totally dead and even a computer can't recognize it. Do you think it's possible to take out the internal memory from Streak and upload a new ROM on it?
Next solution is to use the RIFF JTAG BOX, but the device itself cost about 200$ in my country and also nobody uses it here for repairing bricked phones. And sending my Streak to USA for repair - it's a little bit risky I think.
Thanks for reply
The low level firmware, which isn't user accessible, is gone. You could load a ROM onto the internal MicroSD if you wished, but without the aforementioned low-level firmware it won't do anything.
Your options are to have the Streak JTAGged, or to purchase a replacement.

Hmm, that's bad. My Streak is still under warranty, so I have written to the service and they replied me that repair isn't possible, if the motherboard (they probably meant that low level firmware) is broken. So they will give me new device? I told them that my Streak have discharged and since then is totally dead. Can they recognize, that Streak was broken after the unsuccesfully ROM upgrade?
They likely can tell. They may still replace it, but obviously there's no way to know until you talk to them.

[Q] Moving data from one Asus Memo FHD to a new one

Hi all,
About a month ago, I dropped my Asus Memo FHD 10. It only looked like it cracked the screen in the bottom corner where it hit the ground, but it seems there is some other internal weirdness going on. Anyway, I bought a new one and was wondering how hard it was to open them up and pull the drive out of the old one and stick it in the new one? Is that even possible? Would it just boot up since the hardware should essentially be the same? Just the old one was already rooted and I had everything setup the way I like it. Hate to have to go through all that again. Any help or tips would be appreciated. -Thanks-

Theoretically it's possible but it requires some electronics knowledge etc. I would love to see someone do it.
Also there is always the risk of ruining your new device as well so even if you knew how to do it and you wanted to risk it I wouldn't advice it. Unfortunately the only safe way is to go through all that process again (root etc.).

ChromeOS Dell Official recovery stick questions

So, today i had a guy come replace my MOBO on my dell chromebook 3189. He left the recovery stick that came with the new MOBO on accident. He told me to keep it "just in case". The work order dell sent me said i was not supposed to keep it, but so what. Im thinking since there is all kinds of recovery files and miscellaneous files with the floor and framework stuff on it something could happen here.
I have a dell chromebook 11 3(120?) that i bought off of ebay ages ago, and it has a enterprise enrollment on it. I looked on the dell website, and the device warranty expired somewhere in 2015. Obv the school district doesn't care about it now. Im thinking there is something I could do with this stick to bypass the no dev mode thing. There is no way to enable dev mode on the device, from what ive found. I need some exploits, or some ideas on what to do.
The USB stick has all microsoft branding on it, and has all kinds of filing numbers on it. It has multiple portions to it, and it has computer files and recovery files. ChromeOS itself can not read the "USB Device" files, because im guessing its the same stuff the computer has on it.
If you guys have any ideas on what to do, let me know. This would be greatly appreciated!
That is a Dell OEM RMA Shim USB stick, here is a link with more information from google "https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/platform/factory/+/HEAD/setup/RMA_SHIM.md" only used when motherboard is replaced, as it helps write the service tag and reload the chrome OS.
