Question about the Stylus and drawing apps - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hello all, I am currently debating getting the 16GB wifi Flyer. One of the great features I am interested in is the stylus, however I have read how many drawing apps (AutoCAD Sketchbook) don't process the pen input and a message comes up saying "you can't scribble here". I was wondering if this is still an issue in honeycomb or if its limited to gingerbread?
Thanks for your help!
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.

Sketchbook works now in honeycomb with the stylus. You can't use the special pen features but aside from that it works great, you get good precision with the pen.
In honeycomb the pen works everywhere and apps built for the pen switch to pen-mode automatically. It's kind of like using a pen on a Windows-based tablet PC, it works like a mouse/touch in normal apps, and then you get features like the button to erase in special apps.

Thanks for the response. So long as best buy doesn't physically remove them from their shelves, I think ill be picking one of these up soon.

Text input continues to be a thorn in my side...

I don't know how else to explain it. I honestly think my screen calibration is off in some fashion with regards to keyboard input. I've tried changing the keyboards and I continue to miss letters left and right.
I figured with a larger screen that this would be much less of an issue but (not exaggerating) 50% of the time I go to key in a letter above the spacebar, it registers the space instead of the respective letter. I also have issues with hitting the return symbol when trying to backspace.
I hate to admit it but I never had anywhere close to these kinds of problems on iOS. I refuse to go back to that platform but I SMS way too much and this might be the factor that sends me back. Voice works pretty well but I much prefer to type.
Any suggestions?
Try swype.

Yeah I've tried Swype a bit and not really a fan. I type too many abbreviations and it still requires you to initially tap on the first letter which is where the problems I'm having occur.

Are you using the Samsung keyboard? If so I would download the gingerbread keyboard from the market and that should fix your problem. When I use the Samsung Keyboard for a lack of a better word I feel like a retard I can't spell or anything.

had the same issue but only with the android keyboard when i switched to the samsung keybopard and turned off all the auto correct crap my issues went away but i did have horrible accuracy issues

Yes I have the same problem with the Android keyboard. I am still not sure if it is a bug or if I have to become used to it. It doesn't happen all the time.

I noticed that the android keyboard does have this problem but the samsung keyboard does not.
Yes but the Samsung keys are larger that could be a reason.

Thanks all, I'll give the Samsung kb another go. Glad at least to see that I'm not the only one having this challenge...
The thing I don't like about the Samsung keyboard is the bar that keeps popping up and going away, making the screen size change. I also really like being able go tap a ? without having to press the alt key. I'm going to try the Gingerbread keyboard in the market, it worked great ln froyo. Now that I know I am not fat fingering everything.

I must have tested a dozen different keyboards not only with this new SGS2
phone but on my two previous phones (Captivate and Infuse) and I have
found that nothing is as good as the Samsung Keyboard unless someone
happens to be a wizkid or someone has fingers as thin as a pencil.
For average people there is nothing as good as the stock samsung keyboard.
One of the reasons for this is that the size of the letters on the samsung
keyboard are noticabley larger.
Another reason is that when you use those keyboards from the market
they all have a slight but noticable delay when pressing the keys.
I loaded gingerbread keyboard from the market. Yes, its basically the same as the android keyboard, but performance has been much better for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
There is another issue with the android keyboard when you have 2 input languages installed. It switches by itself the input language without a swipe of the spacebar.

I have issues to. I have tried the stock android, Samsung, gingerbread, touchpal, swiftkey, and perfect. They all suffer from the same issues. HTC has a calibration app I was hoping to find here. Anybody? Oh and i hate swype.

This is the debate that never ends, but my two cents: Honeycomb is great on the Flyer. You won't notice the loss of the capacitive buttons, and the on screen buttons will soon seem natural.
Plus, the ability to use the pen in any application is great, as is the superior handling of bluetooth keyboards (if you ever find yourself using one).
I'm 100% pro Honeycomb on the Flyer.
How do you plan to use it? For games honeycomb status bar don't go away. Many have complained of accidentally touching it during game play and losing their work. Also, if you use kindle and/or nook app, the honeycomb bar also don't go way. Therefore, you lose screen restate. In other words, if you need the maximum amount of space DON'T UPGRADE TO HONEYCOMB

LOL.

I upgraded, and found I missed the phone ability. I'm now running leeDroid's HC and am a happy camper again. The loss of BT phone isn't a huge deal for me, as I only plan to use the phone part while traveling overseas and speakerphone is fine.
But aside from the phone, HC is a thing of beauty on the Flyer.
Ill upgrade when more apps are HC/ICS friendly. I use the Flyer for movies and occasionally for notes. Currently HBOGO's lack of compatibility is keeping me from upgrading.

I've found a few apps that hide, for lack of a better term, from me in the Market. Most seem to have been uploaded here, so they don't stay hidden long. But it can be a little annoying. Fortunately, since we can download from here directly onto the phone memory, it's only 1 additional hoop to jump through.

Using the Note as a Computer

I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus threads and saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI and decided I would try it out on the Note. I did this on my Evo when I had one so this isn't a new idea but I kind like it. This isn't an in depth video, it just shows you how it works with what I have working with it. The commands that the Nexus user can use with his keyboard I couldn't get to work with the Note. Not sure if its an ICS thing or what. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laUNz7QJ9Wo&feature=youtu.be
I too have been playing around with this and it is a pretty novel idea. It isn't 100% there yet in terms of being a setup I could use full time, but it does let me travel without my laptop and plug in to a hotel TV.

I just found an old Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard (it's a small black box that you set on a table, and it projects a full-sized keyboard onto whatever flat surface it's sitting on using a laser) I used to use with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA and tried to pair it with my Note today. It works flawlessly! This thing hasn't worked with any of my devices since WinMo 5, and even then it usually required a driver to be installed. Not with the Note! Just need to be sure I have the Samsung Keyboard selected (but it doesn't need to be open). I just keep getting more and more excited about this thing (except for the dark splotches on my display and low Quadrant scores).
Ok this is neat for traveling. Anyone know what cable we need to connect to the lcd monitor?

You have to have the MHL to HDMI adapter for it to work. I got mine on Amazon for $22 including shipping and got it within 5 days. Then of course a bluetooth keyboard and mouse..works good. Does your monitor have HDMI?
Edit: If your traveling I'm sure the tv might have an HDMI...unless you stay in a Days Inn as I do..

I had actually purchased this keyboard for a Dell Streak 7 I owned. I sold the Streak and had forgotten about this great keyboard until I was going through my email's and ran across the link / activation from where I had purchased it.
Anyway long story short, the version is now up to 4.5, it's skinnable and has many free skins to choose from. Also hand writing recognition like Samsung's keyboard. You can also set your own landscape / portrait layouts as well.
There is a 15 day free trial to see if it suits you, just thought I might recommend this, my old activation key worked with the newest version, if any of you guys have used it on previous devices your license will transfer fine.
Try it out and leave your comments here.

Lapdock...?

Hey guys!!
Well I recently have acquired a Droid Razr. My Nexus has given me MANY troubles and was able to trade it in for the Razr. Now I am intrigued by the lapdocks. I have a GIANT alienware which is a beautiful and amazing laptop, but its to damn bulky to travel with back and forth to class with. I want something I can do some basic term papers on, surf the web and just use for general use. My question(s) are:
A) How good are these docks?
B) Is the 500 significantly better than the 100?
C) Can I still get the on contract price with my newly acquired razr?
D) I have an HP touchpad rooted with ICS, would it make more sense to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse vs the lapdock?
E) Where is the cheapest place to get these and do they generally run for cheaper than on amazon?
Thanks in advance!
...this too, is relevant to my interests
I have the 100 and it's pretty handy. I use it at work since all of our software is web-based and it works well. I also use it for browsing at home and doing work for school. It can be a bit slow at times, but it's usable. I picked mine up from the local corporate VZW store for 199.97, which is the cheapest I've seen it.

I hated mine and i was thinking to sell it. The catch was using it with a wireless mouse. It is pain to use the touchpad. Once I used a wireless mouse the lapdock started to appeal more and more to me. I have an Asus G series and I used to take it to work. Now my laptop is always at home and I use my lapdock .

Hi, good to know that you can use the lapdock effectively
How do you use your quick office app , i cant seem to expand it to "full screen", when it expands to full screen it just comes in the center and that serves no purpose. Is there an addon or something so that i can add to expand my documents to full screen so that work can be easy.
