Okay, around last month I've been discovering the many different customizations of Miui. I've stumbled upon Miui's extended settings mod and have been trying to get it onto my phone. I've downloaded the .apk, but I also need to get another file on to make extended settings work. The only way to do that is to get onto Clockwork recovery. Every time I go to recovery I get Miui's included Glitch kernel CMW-based recovery. I want to get to Clockwork Recovery. I've tried Odin and ROM Manager, but nothing is working.
I've tried to get the .zip file to work on Glitch Kernel CWM but I always get installation aborted.
I'm sorry, but I'm incredible new at all of this and just need a lot of help.
P.S. I'm probably trying to get clockworkmod on odin wrong, and when I try to do it on ROM Manager it says something about not having official supported clockworkmod and if I installed it manually.
Glitchs recovery should work for flashing any zip that's for mtd...you shouldn't need to install another recovery...not sure why its aborting install. maybe its a bad download?
The extended settings also requires some changes to the framework, I'm assuming you downloaded the correct .zip for your release and are flashing the entire zip, not just installing the extended settings.apk?

Yes, I downloaded the correct .zip that it wants me to, but it get installation aborted.
Do I possibly need to change frameworks maybe? I have no clue!

so i just bought a vibrant with firmware 2.1 update 1 and the build ends with ji6.
i was able to root the device with no problems and now that i installed rom manager i cant seem to install clockwork recovery. every time i click on it on rom manager noting happens. Is there another way for me to install clockwork recovery ? i searched everywhere. please any help would be most appreciated
i had the same problem yesterday, ROM manager pretty much just downloads an update.zip file, so when you hit reinstall packages it takes you to CWM... well i have the newest version of the update.zip file i could find (still outdated).... but after you flash a new ROM the clockwork mod should be installing fine, it did for me..
so i attached the update.zip file that i found.. so just put this in your sd card (not in any files), delete any update.zip files you may have and then rename this to update .... it will automatically turn to update.zip... then just reboot into recovery then hit reinstall packages -- then it should work
wow thanks that did the job.now it if isnt a much of a bother but can i flash to a custom mod 2.2 axura and then unlock? cause the unlocker cant seem to find a unlock code
Hello - I'm new to clockwork. I am running Eugene's Ginger Clone ROM, rooted, and undid OCLF.
I downloaded ROM manager from the Market and installed. I noticed I now have an update.zip file on the internal SD. I rebooted into recovery - but when I click reinstall packages, I get this error:
Finding Update Package
Opening Update Package
Verifying Update Package
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation Aborted
What am I doing wrong? I am DYING to get Nero v2 flashed!
Any help is much appreciated!!
Thanks,

on ROM MANAGER did you press FLASH CLOCK WORK RECOVERY? its the first option. YOU MUST HAVE THAT.
if it still doesn't work, on TITANIUM BACKUP, press menu, and click CREATE UPDATE.ZIP and it'll re-do it, but u'll need to re-flash clockwork recovery.

I did Flash Clockwork before the error as Galaxy S Vibrant. I flashed again same error.
I went ti Titanium, created update.zip and reflashed clockwork. Still getting the same error.
Any other ideas - or can I get an update.zip that's known working?
Thanks!

try re-downloading the ROM and try again..

IDK how to fix this besides ODIN back to stock, and then re-flash it.
I SUGGEST you just do odin because it'll erase everything and it might be a small bug in your system doing this.
I even tried older versions of clockwork. I don't think redownloading the ROM would help because I can't even get CW to start.
Strange damn thing.
I guess I'll odin back to stock.
Thanks

yeah it happens sometimes, and you need to ODIN once in a while so your ROMS ghosts don't stay back and haunt your newer roms.
Good Luck on it working.
Odin'ed back and had to reset phone. Bone stock and re-installed Clockwork. Did the reinstall packages and it rebooted this time and looks hung on Installing Multi-CSC. I guess that takes a while? Babysitting...

same here
Yes I'm having the exact same problem. I'm running nero beta 3 and I'm getting the can't verify signature error with clockwork. I've read elsewhere that this has something to do with having 3E recovery vs. 2E recovery, but I'm not entirely sure what that means. It sounds like we need to Odin back to a stock version to fix this problem, but can anyone tell us which one? Can someone provide a stock version that has the CWM with 2E? Or a better solution? It would be much appreciated, and thanks to funky for starting this thread.
I odin'ed back to T959UVJFD.tar
That wasn't enough so I wiped all user data via recovery mode. Re-installed Rom Manager - and now I'm on Nero v2.
I figured out the Installing Multi-CSC issue by reinstalling packages again.
Some things just take time I guess.
Thanks for the help guys!

Ok, after successfully rooting and putting EB01 on my phone, I discovered that when I tried to install zip files from my sd card that I was taken into Samsung recovery (blue). I found out that my CWM was dated, and needed a new one. In looking for the most current version, I installed CWM 3.0.0.8. Now when I attempt to install from SD, I am rebooted into red CWM, but it doesn't like the script, so it aborts installation of whatever ROM I try to install. Update.zip kicks me into CWM 3.0.0.8, and when I try to install from there I get a similar message. I have tried to flash a different CWM through Odin, but nothing changes. I have also tried to use the "All ClockworkMod Recoveries" option, but it tells me "An error occurred while downloading your recovery" regardless of which version I select.
I am running Superclean 2.2 and have Rom Manager v3.0.1.0
I did see a similar thread to this for an HTC Hero phone, and it seemed to indicate the CWM I installed is for Gingerbread. Hoping there might be an easy fix to this I am overlooking so that I don't have to start from scratch. TIA!
It's not JUST for Gingerbread. The scripting language that the newest cwm uses is edify. And the latest cwm doesnt support the older scripting languages that the zip scripts used to be written in. so all the scripts need to be updated to use edify. And they'll work fine. Even on froyo.

Also, the newest version of Superclean (2.7) uses edify, so you should be able to flash that in CWM 3.x

Ok, that makes sense. Is there anything I can do to update the scripts?
I am trying to do the same thing. I want to have a Rom Manager version on my phone that allows me to use the 'install zip from sd card' function in the program and run the scripts correctly.
I have replace the update.zip and update-recovery.zip with th red jt1134 CWM zip, but the latest version of CWM seems to write scripts entirely differently, so it'll get me into recovery and then recovery can't run the scripts. Any idea of how I can go back to a prior version of Rom Manager?

Odin. Here's the page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Just use manual cwm for now. The ROM Manager is going to fudge it for the time being. I don't trust RM to do a proper wipe before install either. It would be nice to use the RM gui, but its better to just spend a few extra minutes to make sure things get done right.

If you already have a super clean rom, just hold your power button to pop up the power down screen. Then select the option for "Recovery".
OR
Turn off phone. While turning it on, hold the power button+up volume+down volume. The Samsung logo will turn on, then turn off. Release the buttons and it will come on again then boot to recovery. Then select the option "update.zip" to launch into CWR.
So far what are the problems with the new CWR recovery 3.0? I want to flash to the newest SCv2.9 but Im reading some iffy comments on it. What are the possible drawbacks and is the only way to get back to CWR 2.5 through Odin? because since I own a mac this is a ***** and a half to do! Can you also run CWR 2.5 on SCv2.9?
Thanks in advance.

I was able to follow the thread by jt that has a simple zip and install with my cwm 3.0.x.

Ok this is probably a noob question,
i have a vibrant 2.2 tmobile, i just did the 3e recovery mod so that i could root the phone, i finally got it rooted and Im positive it is (terminal emulator says # when i type su,and superuser is working so Im pretty sure its rooted) so when i go into rom manager and flash clockworkmod recovery it always says it works but i cant get into the new recovery only the stock and i cant backup my original rom, does anyone know how to fix this so i can get into clockworkmod recovery?
Im new to rooting so sorry if this is a extremely noob question.
from stock recovery, select "reinstall packages"
I tried reinstalling the packages from the stock recovery but it takes me back to the stock recovery, Ive tried that many times but i never get the clockworkmod recovery, i have no idea why it wont enter the clockworkmod recovery? Can i install it without rom manager?
Download "update.zip" that is attached to this post....place it on the ROOT of your sdcard (not in any folders)
now this is the voodoo edition of clockwork....we are going to want to disable this to avoid issues (sorry, i dont have a normal clockwork available). so also download the disable voodoo .zip attached to this post.
DONT UNZIP EITHER FILE. DOWNLOAD THEM, AND PLACE THEM BOTH ON YOUR SDCARD AS IS!!
follow these instructions exactly:
1. place both files on root of sd
2. reboot into stock recovery
3. "reinstall packages"
3a. if it brings the red clockwork recovery, move onto step 4.
3b. if you dont see clockworkmod, choose reinstall packages again...if you see it move onto step 4.
3c. if you still dont see it, i cant help you further
4. now that you are in clockwork, DONT REBOOT OR FLASH ANYTHING YET, we need to disable voodoo
5. in clockwork choose "install zip from sdcard"
6. choose "choose zip from sdcard"
7. scroll to the disable voodoo zip and select that...confirm install, select "yes"
8. it should take less than a second, youll see "installation complete". (if you see "installation aborted" dont worry, just move on with the steps...see my explanation below)
9. Reboot before flashing anything, very important
10. you are now ready to flash using clockwork mod
PS - im not sure if youre familiar with voodoo, what it is/how it works....but the disable voodoo zip is just a precaution. im not sure if voodoo is built into this edition of clockwork, or if you actually have to have a voodoo kernel to actually be able to activate it. even though i think you need to have a compatible kernel, its better to play it safe.
with that said THERE IS A POSSIBLILTY THAT WHEN YOU FLASH THE DISABLE VOODOO, YOU MAY GET "INSTALLATION ABORTED"....dont worry continue on with teh steps, that just means that voodoo does not actually exist for you, which is probably ideal anyway
It still didn't work, i must be doing something Ive tried everything but it just wont go to clockworkmod.

Have you tried the toolbox?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
No i haven't tried toolbox yet but ill give it a shot.
I had a similar issue...
Are you getting the error "signature verification failed"?
No I haven't gotten a single error message, i flash clockworkmod recovery and it says success, I reboot into recovery i get the stock recovery, so Ive tried reinstall packages several times and i never get an error message although when I do hit reinstall packages it goes through in like 2 seconds but It never lets me into clockworkmod.
Use AIO Toolbox (recomended) -> install USB Vibrant drivers (if you don't have them, included with AIO Toolbox) and flash stock 2.1 rom (included in AIO Toolbox), after that use rom manager (from market) and install clockwork recovery, then download any kernel (for 2.1 rom of course) with root and flash it thru already installed CWM or flash ANY rooted custom rom - that's all (and it will take about 0,5h - not big deal).
toolbox is the way to go it will do everything for you just simply follow the steps from top to bottom. and you will be fine but before you go with tool box do read the noob guide it will surely make u understand the functionality of the toolbox. good luck
Hmmm......
Ok ill give that a try hopefully that will work.

This is the issue I am getting, even when using the files mentioned on this post.
How did you solve this problem?
EDIT: Just used the AIO Toolkit, restored to stock, rooted, installed ROM Manager, then went ahead and installed my custom ROM! HoneyGinger is talking to me and getting itself set up. Lovely!
Hey guys,
I was running 2.2 on my vibrant and was having issues with cwm as well. I followed the advice here and it worked great. Flashed Nero v3 and my phone is running like a champ!
Thanks again to everyone for their expertise.

Hi
I am running a Stock LSD 4.1.2 JB Rom on my I9100 and do not wish to Root my phone. Yes it was rooted once but I have a specific reason for not wanting to revert back to root.
On a few occasions over the past year I have wanted to flash an app via "Recovery Mode", a .zip file located on the phone's external SD card.
On trying to flash, the following is displayed in yellow: -
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have searched and searched this and other forums and although I can find many many instances when this has ocurred with other people I have not yet seen a generic solution to this problem.
It must ocurr because of a certain situation being prevelant within my phone and the references to it on forums usually suggest they are because someone is messing with a Custom Rom and/or a Rooted Kernal etc etc.
Could someone please tell what is happening, why this is the case and what can be done to sort it please.
I would say that my phone is just over 18 months old, never has had a problem, has been flashed with "Stock Roms" quite a few times and all without wiping or restoring to the factory settings. I do not want to wipe it to sort this problem out and am hoping an easy fix is available.
Hope someone can help
ps - I am trying to install the 4.2 Camera via the patched.zip and have tried to install the "Temporary" Clockwork Recovery" app with exactly the same problem. I stress I do not want to Root.
Anyone please?

u have to first flash the 'Temporary CWM recovery .zip' then select 'reboot to recovery' option in stock recovery to enter 'temporary cwm recovery' there u select the 'Camera zip file' to flash.
PS- after flashing 'Temporary CWM recovery.zip' do not reboot ur phone the normal way by doing so u will lose ur temporary recovery.
each time before flashing any zip file u have to flash 'temporary cwm.zip' file first.
Hi thanks but I know this.
Can we get back to my topic please? I would not have posted if I could flash the Temp CWM Recovery. zip file
I just need to know what causes the error I am getting and how I can irradicate it.

As the error indicates, it fails to verify the file's signature. You can't flash unsigned packages via stock recovery. The solution is exactly what was already mentioned to you:either root and install a custom kernel/recovery (you don't want it, that's fine), or use a temporary custom (non-stock) recovery. While I had problems with the stock recovery flashing unsigned zips (obviously), I never had an issue with flashing a temp recovery. Try redownloading and reinstalling it - it could be a corrupt file. Which recovery are you trying to use? I recommend the temp touch CWM by Phil (the dev of the PhilZ kernel; use link in his signature). Always works like a charm.

Nice one! Thank you
It must have been a duff file (temp touch CWM by Phil) as the one I just downloaded, installed without a problem. It was the very same program file but from a different source.
Just installed the 4.2 Camera too so now going to play
Thank you again
