Milestone X2 Bootstrap - Motorola Droid X2

Hello. I recently got a Milestone X2 from a local carrier. It came with 2.3.5 and I was able to root it successfully. However, I am now trying to install the "X2 Bootstrap / Clock Work Recovery" mod, and unfortunately it is not working. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience doing this on the Motorola Milestone X2.
It was my understanding the phone is for all purposes exactly the same as the Droid X2. This is the thread about installing it (sorry I am to new so I can't actually post a direct link):
http : // forum . xda-developers . com / showthread.php?t=1169677
Unfortunately I have no posted enough so I can't post into that thread (developers thread). Anyway I follow the instructions, everything goes well it "installs", I select Recovery. The phone shuts off I plug it INTO THE AC ADAPTER NOT A COMPUTER. The phone starts up and the initial Motorola Splash Screen appears but it never moves beyond that. I need to pull the battery and restart the phone to get back into the OS.
Does anyone know if this simply doesn't work with the Milestone X2 or if Motorola possibly changed something? Thanks to anyone for the help. I really want to get some type of Recovery option before I start playing to much.

Did su ask for root access??

I guess I can not say this with absolute certainty. I can say for sure System Recovery asked for and was granted Super User. If I look in my Super User app the only applications currently allowed are System Recovery, Terminal Emulator (from my using su inside of it), Titanium Backup, and Unknown which is /system/bin/sh, I presume from me using ADB.
Is there something I could check to debug to verify this? Thank you very much for your reply.

I think then it installed the hijack. check data/data. Some chargers nonorig may not work.

Sorry I'm pretty new what does installed the hijack mean? I am also unsure on what check data/data (or is this a directory that I should be checking permissions on?) is. I am using the original charger if that helps at all. I'll do some digging on the things you suggested.

Read only is ok. Browse to data/data see if tenfars folder is at the end.

Yes there is a directory:
com.tenfar.a4.recovery
Inside of it is a lib folder and a files folder. The lib folder is empty, the files folder has the following:
# ls -l
ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x app_26 app_26 76592 2011-12-14 08:36 charge_only_mode.bin

Permissions are wrong

Are you sure you tried with actual AC power and not a usb dongle..
I get the same results when i plug to a usb dongle after reboot recovery..

Surunner rw-rw----
all else rwxr-xr-x
get root explorer
Edit tenfars folder rwxr-x--x
files rwxrwx--x

Oops I didn't see your post above this one sorry about that, I will look at that as well.

Hmm well I guess I just called the "charger" the AC power, so yes what I was referring to was the AC adapter that you plug the USB cord into. If this is not correct do I go need to buy just a straight up normal AC charger? If that is all it is wow I'm really sorry I guess I just presumed what I was using WAS the AC charger. Just to verify this is what I am using:

I use the one linked it works. Be sure it is motorola.
check my edits above about permissions.
Edit
I misinterpreted the leading dash - perms seem ok. Try fix permissions in rom mgr free not the bootstrap options they do not work.

Ya permissions seem ok. Ya the AC adapter I am using came with the phone and is Motorola. I'm just at a loss maybe they did change some subtle thing with the Milestone X2, I thought it was exactly the same phone just not branded. Are you using a Milestone X2 or do you have the "actual" Droid X2?

Just an FYI, I also downloaded the file from walk through in bookd's post, and I have the same results (as you mentioned it is the same file). I really am paranoid I am doing something wrong but man this is pretty straight forward.

Droid X2. What about fix perms it is worth a try. But you have no bu to fall on! So let this be a warning.

Ya I'm a little hesitant to do some of the stuff exactly because of that. Ironic I'm trying to get to a spot where I can back it up but am worried about not having a backup LOL.

[HOW-TO] Deodex your phone

I did this exact procedure and everything is working fine with my phone. No issues at all. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU CHOOSE TO DO WITH YOUR PHONE.
**Make sure adb and java are both installed on your system
1. Download and install xUltimate
2. Run Main.exe
3. Choose option 1 and wait
4. Choose option 2 and wait
5. Choose option 6 and wait
6. Choose option 3 and wait
7. Choose option 4 and wait
8. Once everything has been deodexed and the script did not come up all red with a major error then you are good. You will know the error if you see it. If you get that major error then DO NOT PROCEED.
9. Copy done_app and done_frame to your internal sdcard.
10.
Code:
adb shell
su
stop
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/done_app/* /system/app/
cp /sdcard/done_frame/* /system/framework/
rm /system/app/*.odex
rm /system/framework/*.odex
mount -o ro,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
reboot
You might get an error with the 2nd mount, and if you do just ignore and type reboot. You're device will take longer to boot the first time but after that it will be quicker. And all around will be quicker.
There is no point in doing this to your phone right now. There is no recovery or sbf for this phone at the moment.
I would advise people NOT to do this to your phone. There is no real benefit to this on a stock rom while on the phone. Your phone might actually be slower and use more memory.
You should probably post a link back to the original thread instructions as well.
Had no errors except when trying to cp so I rebooted and now stuck @ motorola logo
Rebooted into recovery and tried resetting phone with no luck. Since there is no SBF file available yet I'm assuming the phones toast until it's available? I've had the phone for past 14 days so I doubt exchanging it is going to be easy

This phone just isn't for me, it's too locked down and slow to develop so I'm moving to a Droid Charge. Will send this back for reflash and put on ebay when it returns.
Maybe OP should also put in that there is no SBF available just to add the extra layer then the "Im not responsible bla, bla, bla,....." I love seeing any bit of development for this phone =) but we should make it bold that there is no way to fix any mistakes that occur right now. =)

I'm guessing thats an improvement for you but mine has hit 2700+ almost everytime since I got it. I've gotten a peak of either 3050 or 3150 after killing all tasks and running quadrant back to back a few times. Would be nice to have a vanilla android 2.3 running on it to really see what the hardware is worth but it seems to be a long way off for the x2.
If this backup works I'm getting a Xoom to play with instead of my phone. Never had any trouble with my HD2 like this even before nandroid was available but there was plenty of development for that phone.
Stock rooted: 2666
I just don't think the benefits outweigh the possible issues that can arise from deodexing at this time.
Taylor: I'm glad you posted this though... how did you find this out? This is awesome for the community once we (as a community) are able to develop on this phone.
Thank you.

Rooting a mytouch without usb connection

Hey guys, so ive been trying to root my mytouch 3g slide, however there is something wrong with my micro usb port, it accepts a charge however it does not accept data no matter what cable or computer i hook it up with.
How would i go about rooting this thing without adb?
i tried to figure it out myself, however i couldnt find the sql_lite_stmt folder or whatever with a file manager app and the main method lists exploid MUST be executed from that folder.
What do you guys think i should do?
Thanks for the help.
Download super one click on your computer and run it. Plug in your phone, set it to charge only and hit "shell root". Download mt3s rooter and run it AFTER the shell root is over. Close super one click. It will then tell you the rest of the directions.

The only problem with doing that is my phones USB is broken and doesnt transfer data. I need to copy the jailbreak files to the phone then execute them via terminal or file manager or something.
You're going to have to manually download and push the exploid through terminal on your phone. you also need to dl the epimg, cm mod and rename cm mod to update.zip and put gapps on a seperate sd card and rename that to update.zip aswel

does exploid need to be executed from a specific folder?
"Issue the following command: adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals. Note: It MUST be in that directory - NO exceptions."
on my mytouch the folder sqlite_stmt_journals is either non existent or invisible to terminal and file managers.
will push still work if i cant see the folder?
Must exploid be executed from /sqlite_stmt_journals?
No you just have to push it to that folder, then you should be able to run it. Is your mt3gs under warranty?

No its way out of warranty, im not the original owner and i had to take it apart to replace the digitizer.
i just cant stand the stock rom anymore
EDIT: i tried to push exploid via terminal but it says
"Push: permission denied"
cp was also denied.
:/ im at a loss, i wish my magical techno fairy godmother would push me in the right direction
ouch man, i dont know what else you can do, umm did you try jiggling your cable around to get some kind of connection?

ok i thought of another way of you doing this,
get a usb micro sd reader, copy all your stuff over then format the microsd to fat32, get the esp3img and throw it on there,
then follow the steps to install cm7.
the oneclick temp root program that g2s use(i think its called zeus?!? I cant remember what i used on my wifes g2) might help you get the exploid to work w/o usb. If your still stuck after you should pm the dev for help, im not super familiar with the espresso and Im having trouble gaining access to r/w on the system
i think i need to instal ubuntu and get s-off

UNIVERSAL New Root for all TRANSFORMER Units

Hello,
I have found this bug on the TF101 and I do have TF201 as well but its not a production model so i cant really test this 100%
If someone can test my root method. below i will paste.
This is a new root method.
This is a linux / OSX version only for now.
When you untar the file. Please make sure to edit the runme.sh it has a path for adb that you need to fix. Other then that it will work.
You just chmod 755 runme.sh and run it
http://www.mrcellphoneunlocker.com/V2/tf101_ics_root.tar.gz
Windows version of my exploit can be found at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515470
Reserved for later
im pretty positive it won't work, seems they made a lil mistake on the rights on your system folder after the backup utility been used bro <- it does work
but still, can't wait for someone to actual test it, would be funny if it however would work.
after all nice catch so far

Want to know if it works on the TF201.
You need to run the backup util on an app installed (This util is found in the app draw)
then once the script runs. it will ask you to do the same backup again and it should reboot and you have root.
it works >.<

I am afraid I lost my root as well, forgot to update the superuser after restoring root. So, after trying to run FoxFi, phone rebooted...and root lost.
This is what I did and it worked.
- First, download Matt's root fixer, link on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065995
- Extract it to a folder on your c: drive on your computer ( I used c:/tmp)
- Open a cmd prompt (in Windows 8, just type "cmd" in Search and it pops right up.)
- enter "cd c:/tmp"
- to verify contents of tmp folder enter "dir", you should see a list of the extracted folder contents
- If you need the Motorola drivers, you should have them if you downloaded Matt's Utility 1.82. Load those before connecting your phone.
- connect your phone to your computer via USB, ensure USB Debugging enabled. Your phone should connect as "Mass Storage" by default.
- enter "fixroot.bat" the FixRoot program should start
- The program will run, and reboot once. During the reboot, the cmd prompt window will display the program progress and the status after reboot. If it states "uid=0(root) gid=0(root)", then you have successfully rerooted your phone.
- NOW, GO AND UPDATE YOUR SUPERUSER APP!
All should be right with the world after that.
Cheers!

Hey can you explain how please. I'm a noob and i know I backed up the root but now it is telling me its gone and I'm figuring this is why. I apparently did not read well enough and now my root is gone and I am stuck on jellybean and can't get to titanium backup or my stuff and I am beyond frustrated at this point I want to throw the phone out the window. Thanks in advance.

First you need a file explorer that looks everywhere. I use root explorer. Find the file su-backup. Mine was in the /system/bin/. Once find where it is, edit the batch file (I used notebook) to chance the directory where su-backup was actually found. The close the file and run the batch file.
The batch file is in Matt's RestoreRoot utilty.
If I left something out, blame my ADD and ask again.

No, this only restores root if it was there before the upgrade.
Dang. I had a feeling that was the case that's why I didn't try it yet.
Matt's was what I used on my regular razr.
Guess I'll wait for an exploit.
su-backup not found
How is it possible?
It tells me that su-backup is not found!
There's no way I would have deleted it myself.
I doubt there is a way its located somewhere else.
I have all the drivers installed and the process is being followed correctly.
What kind of sorcery is this?
I had lost root randomly at one point but was able to restore it with Voodoo OTA Root Keeper. That app is a life saver. IDK where it saves the backup but has bailed me out on many occassions. If someone is rooted and doesn't have that you should get it immediately.
su-backup not found
I did not backup my root anytime before the update.
Does that mean I am stuck on no root forever?

temporary root over ADB

Prerequisites:
Dirty Santa
ADB
HOW TO: (UPDATE COMING SOON...)
Follow DirtySanta all the way through step 3.5
Step 1: On Windows, double-click "RUNMEFIRST.bat, DO NOT CLOSE THE LOG WINDOW THAT OPENS, then double-click "Step1.bat"
On Linux,
./RUNMEFIRST.sh
Step 2: Open a Separate Terminal, then run
./Step1.sh
Step 3: Wait for shell prompt then.
run-as con
chmod 0777 /storage/emulated/0/*
This will not give you full root access!
Please comment if you're willing to help me out in getting root.
Just so everyone knows I am not taking credit for writing any of the code, none of it was me, I just was fiddling try to create root and found this worked to get root over ADB.
when does this wear off?

I have not done enough to know for sure, but all the changes you made are going to reset most likely be on a reboot.

That should give you a temporary root. I am on android 6.0, not sure if this will work on five but I don't see why it wouldn't. from there i'm going to try to make root.

I will either tonight or tomorrow. I'm in the process to actually getting a full root, I think i'm on to something and may be able to get this to work. This is just a temporary thing for people to try.

OK, My mother language isn't Eng, so I can't understand the meaning of "Follow DirtySanta all the way through step 3.5".
Is your meaning that flollow the guide from step 1 to step 3.5?
Im not getting root access, root check is not recognizing it and neither is an app like freedom

Download v20.zip
extract it
run "RUNMEFIRST.bat"
give it a second and then run STEP1.bat
wait and itll show up as a normal shell "$"
then type in "run-as con" without the quotes
then you will see "#"

Yeah but then the next line does nothing, by that I mean chmod 0777 /storage/emulated/0/*
Plus even if that works how do I get root?

Do you see the # symbol after you type run-as con
if so then i believe you have a temporary root shell.
by the way, the line after that is just giving elevated permissions to your entire internal storage, this part of the code does not apply to us as we do not need to give more permissions to anything on our internal storage as we will not be using them unlike the other several steps on that dirty santa post.
the problem is, even though we have a sort of root shell selinux is stopping us from being able to modify any of the other files.

What are you thinking to get full root from here?
Flash a modified boot img somehow that still let's the phone boot but gives us root even with the SElinux still set to enforcing. Go reading on the dirty cow thread and get caught up
Is this an option if I wanted to change my font or do something that required root? Would it survive past a reboot?

This is still exactly what you see when reading through the post. Please follow the main ROOT thread from Albine45 (patiently wait for Albine's frequent updates on progress) and when full root is achieved, you'll know and a guide will show up to walk you through. For now, you can change system fonts in your settings menu on Android. There are a few free built in fonts and others you can purchase. Just look through your settings menu.

Thank you so much. I'll definitely be watching for full root?
After I run "run-as con" package 'con' is unknown
Any solutions?
I only need to delete or rename /system/bin/logd it's giving me some troubles, battery drain and over heating.
