[Q] Poor wifi signal after dissembling streak 5 - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My streak 5 report an e2fsck error, the inner SD card is wrong, when restarting.
So I dissembled the phone, and replace the inner TF card with a SanDisk C6 mobile ultra card.
The error is fixed. But the wifi signal got very poor.
I must take the phone very near the wireless router/AP, about 1 meter to get a connection.
What is wrong and how to fix it?
The original stock ROM version is 322. I have flash this ROM after replacing inner TF.
I have also tried the stock ROM 354. Today, DJ_Steve's gingerstreak 2.4.4 is flashed.
The wifi signal is still very poor. ( I do remember to flash dsp1 and amss, factory reset, etc.)
Any suggestions?

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

I think you may have disturbed the wifi ariel. I seem to recall reading about someone else doing the same whilst changing the internal SD.
google for Dell Streak Spares and there's a UK based guy selling parts for streaks. There should be enough pics on his listing for you to work out exactly where it is and what to check for

microSD card beware!

Had to return my 3125 because the microSD cards would become corrupt for no reason. This happened twice. Thank goodness I was able to return the microSD cards as defective. This is what happened: Folders/Files would disappear out of the blue. No programs running, no nothing. Listening to music thru my Motorola Bluetooth transceiver(A2DP is very cool). Shut everything down. A couple hours later, Music folder invisible. It's still there, you just can't see it or access it. Take the card to my PC and it does not recognize the microSD card anymore. Hangs everything up. So, from my phone I delete everything from the microSD card. Check the Properties and it shows there is still a gb of data on the card. Now I'm just pissed, so everything goes back to the store. I still had a few days on Cingular's 30 day return policy (Cingular is great). I read a few other threads where people were havng the same issue. Buyer beware. [Applied the A2DP hack to my 2125 (which is a better phone - better reception, easier to use with one hand, ect...) works great - see http://richtech.wordpress.com/2006/05/11/go-wireless-on-your-cingular-2125/
for instructions. I did NOT upgrade my ROM before performing the modification. I still have ROM version 1.0.9.0 and everything works fine.
could be a microsd card problem
would you please post you microsd make and model?
i am currently using a transcend 1gb (normal speed)
been using it everyday for music(yeah a2dp is great) photos documents .... etc
all is fine .. the normal speed doesn't lags so much like when it was on my ppc
I was using a Sandisk (normal speed) microSD purchased from a Verizon Wireless retail store.
I lost a folder (Application Data/Home) during the night without touching the phone. Had to send it in, and received a brand new one back. I do NOT have a memory card at all!
I too is using a microSD card of Sandisk but it dosnot has ne problem.
there is a similar post on howard forums. I had this same problem happen to me twice. Both times it was a sandisk 1gb card, but one of them was the ULTRA model. There is something frying SD cards...and it's not based on brand. I have the qtek 8500 and it happened

I have read somewhere on these forums that if u let ur device to charge for more than 3-4 hrs or leave it by accessing gprs for some time then the device gets hot and can fry ur sd cards or ne internal chip.
dude... i am having the same problem as you... the funniest part is that my Micro SD goes corrupt every 3rd after the reset of the phone or i uses the handfree kit.... but i am using a Dopod S300... is it really the card problem or the phone? i am still figuring out.. cause each time i take my phone to the shop the Micro SD will just be back to normal after 1 hour... but i am using only 512mb

[Q] Dell 5 "sd card blank or unsupported" what to do?

I've got a real love hate relationship with my dell, it doesn't do anything its supposed to but I still love it.
I got my dell last year in november, it stuffed up after having it after a few weeks. Wouldn't charge then couldnt plug it in to charge, and couldnt play media. I've been to buzy to get it "fixed" until now. It just came back last week it charges fine, but its still not playing any media and the sd card is blank or has unsupported files. Also when I plug it in to my computer the computer reconigises ive plugged in the dell it but i cant do anything with it.
I've tried restoring it to factory setting, and formatting and mounting the sd card all of which hasn't worked.
My network (02) dont seem to be able to offer up much support. They've offered to send out a new one but im worried im just going to have more problems. They've also offered to exchange it for a differant phone but I dont really want to give up on my dell.
I dont quite know what version it is apart from I know its dell 5 and it has stage.
Any advice atall (seriously anything) on what I can do to solve even one of these problems to give me faith in the dell streaks?
Im at my wits end with it!
Cheer to any anserws in advance
P.s Im new to smart phones so if possiable go easy with me on the lingo
Could it be something wrong with the sd card its self?
Please can anyone help? I would be soooo grateful for any reply.
If you can get a new one then do that. If then you have any issue post again and we will see what can be done.
Is the the original SD card?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i have the exact same problem with my 4 days old streak 5".
(unlocked dell streak, not rooted, no custom rom)
i tried the sd-card in a card reader in win7 with no result. the media was not found. even ubuntu was not able to find it.
also the galaxy s from my roommate showed the same error message "blank sd-card ... blabla".
so well, i will contact the dell support and then hopefully the problem gets solved.
someone tips for contacting the dell support?
i contacted the dell support (germany) and they send me a new 16gb sd-card.
maybe its a known problem with the streak.
i will report if its working properly with the new card.
Well, I received the replacement card today and its working fine so far.
in my opinion the problem was the broken sd-card.

[Q] HELP! Nook Tablet 8Gb [CM7] Reboots back to [B&N]

Thanks for this development and having such a great forum!
I have been reading the forum for a couple of months now and I need some help.
I'm running CM7 on a NT8 from a 8GB class 4 Sandisk MicroSD and it keeps rebooting into the B&N environment. This usually happens when I'm running the Pandora app; unattended. This is a new exchange due to cosmetic issues.
Had similar issues on first one, except less frequent. But could also cold start it into the CM7 environment as opposed to this one which needs to be plugged in to a power source to boot into CM7. I have re-flashed, re-downloaded and re-flashed, uninstalled and re-installed apps while troubleshooting but have yet to find stability. I am looking to be able to cold start into CM7 and have a stable long lasting 'ON' condition. In the meantime I would like to be able to backup my progress and pick up where I left off if re-flashing is required.
Reboots back to [B&N]...
Is Any one else having this issue? I have scoured without any luck.

i run cm7.2 internal... . but do you have another micro HC sd card laying around collecting dust ? . it would be a "no risk" action to build / flash yourself a second booting card. . was it mentioned that "not all cards" work very well ? . the card "needs" to work well at 4KB random i/o. . do you test your cards with : Crystal Disk Mark ? ( is free ! )
hth...
I am also encountering this issue. This is my first time trying this out, and I was following instructions found here by CelticWebSolutions and I installed everything to a class 10 PNY 16gb sd card and extended the last partition to use up all the space on the card by using MiniTool Partition Wizard. Everything seems to be working perfectly except it randomly reboots itself back to the stock B&N homescreen. Any ideas or suggestions? I should add I tried using Crystal Disk Mark on the card 4k gave 3.742 mb/s read and 0.015 mb/s write (which i don't know but i figure its kind of low) white 4k qd32 resulted in 4.137 mb/s read and 0.025 mb/s write. If the card is the problem, should I look into just exchanging the card or getting a different brand?
i'm going to 'stick my neck out' and say that sounds low. . i've test out some cards where the value is fifty plus times greater / better. . and i also read that it is tied to the voltage. . was said that it works better ( trouble free ? ) with the lithium charged up. . i think the senior devs ( fire / kernel ) are doing something with the voltage regulator . . .
Thanks for the reply O.F. I 'm enjoying playing with CyanogenMod that I'll just back things up and dive in to internal. I'll keep trying all the different solutions I find here but by the weekend I'm rooting. I think I lost a little focus messing with this 16GB microSD that will just not take. It acts right for storage but will not flash anything. I agree it has a lot to do with the flakiness of the cards. Crystal Disk Mark is a solid.
I have been experiencing this problem as well. I've been running CM7 dual boot for about a month now on a SanDisk Class 6 card. It was running okay up until last week, at which point I was asked if I wanted to update the ROM.
Ever since the ROM was updated, it's been rebooting at random into B&N until finally last night, it wouldn't let me boot into CM7 past the skating Cyanomagen guy at all! Very frustrating.
...thinking of returning the Nook and getting the Samsung 2 7.0 and not having to deal with this.
Thanks to the developers for their time though.

[Q] Can an unrooted dell streak 5 just die and brick itself?

i recently got a streak 5 unit. its got a stock rom (olleh) and nothing has been modified yet for this unit. in fact it is still locked to at&t and i was still planning on having it unlocked by a professional. the wifi worked so i use it in order to have a 'feel' for the unit. now the other day it just froze up and the power button to shut it down won't respond so i did the next logical thing to do by simply removing the battery and putting it back. unfortunately nothing happened and it won't even charge nor lights lit up for any indications. i already did some time researching and did the fastboot short-cuts, etc, etc.. up to trying to get 3 computers to detect but to no avail. there are claims that this unit is 'unbrickable' by itself but made me really doubt about the claims and as to why dell itself stop its support. i'm guessing that maybe dell cannot replace so many busted units that they too had to give up or lose more money but that is their issue, right? now going back to the problem: i already borrowed a cable and a battery and both are working using a different unit. its just this one that simply refused to be charged nor power up using a different fully-charged battery. i still won't be giving up, not yet. so back to my main question: would it simply just die or conked out?
The problem is the internal card, if you replace the card the dell is going to start and rebuild everything. I help a friend of mine with a death streak, not responding. Replace the internal card and it was like new.

i really appreciate the reply. currently i do not have any spare 16gb card with me nor the unit, i set it aside for a moment with both the battery and external card removed and was planning to continue to thinker with it as soon as i get over the frustration (he-he!). this i haven't tried yet about replacing the card. would a 2gb card do for the moment? should i reformat it first using a pc? i never thought the unit would be 'boot-dependent' on its external card. i already did tried to boot the said unit without its stock 16gb external card to no avail. i shall try this when i get back home and keep you posted of the development.
hmm... you really missed what the guy said... it is internal card... the card is inside the streak where you need to open the housing of the hardware itself, not just the back cover.. see here...
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/1
good luck on doing it... while you on it, try to get a class 10 microsd card... though you might not see much the improvement of speed but it is there... get a 8gb card or below for max compatibility and detection... anything above 8gb usually needs some extra steps to make it run properly...
so what you have been talking about for external card doesnt have any impact to the streak at all since it is external card.. but internal card does...
i will stop here... any further possible question usually already being answered here on this forum... search for it...

yeah, in my early excitement i did missed to notice that he mentioned internal, not external. it's alright, no further questions for me. i've been on board since 2009 and usually i just quitely search for answers for windows mobile units, not android. i just brought out my old htc tytn ii and restored it back to wm 6.1 with my favorite bloat-free applications. i will just hold back until the first few months next year before i purchase a new unit but definitely a non-dell product. i also appreciate the 'take-down' links. in return i might send you a link where you can watch me blow up the dell streak 5 with a powerful firecracker during the upcoming end-of-the-year celebration. i'll make sure that no one will be troubled by its parts should it would be used somewhere. my lousy experience with a dell unit ends with me..
if you really wont use the streak anymore, how bout considering this?

i disassembled my unit (it was relatively easy after all) and tried to replace its internal memory to no avail.
this just happened 10 minutes ago. a slightly critic friend of mine whose got a same unit earlier tried to disclaim what i did before my unit died (i did nothing remember?). anyways, he demonstrated that even by removing the back cover a few times won't brick the streak 5. which he did and as of typing time, he could not charge nor boot his unit anymore. after witnessing the unfortunate event i really am stumped even more.
for your streak, how bout trying qdl tool? some member did report a success in making the device boot up like normal again...

So you change the internal card and is still not working. Wath kind of card did you use.

4 GB class 10. Please note that a friend of mine suffered the same thing when he just removed the cover and just like that his unit simply 'died'.

hmm, already did that. besides it won't do much good if the unit won't even power up (normal, fastboot, etc..)
QDL mode actually doesn't boot your device, it activates a small modem-like fw.
To check -
Remove battery, hold volume up, connect Streak to PC, holding the volume up.
If any new device if shown in computer management, there's a chance to restore device.

Wifi issues...

A little while ago, I'm not really sure when but my Wifi stopped working. If I tried to enable it, it would just grey out and look like it was enabling but eventually just returned to not on. I've tried flashing new kernals, new roms, new modems, and currently sitting on stock 2.3.4. I've factory reset, (without wiping sdcard data) on stock. Tried to see if there was an update (saw a post that had said if you update to 2.3.6 over the air it will fix wifi, however no such update exists) I've searched and searched and searched and I cannot seem to find any information regarding whats wrong or how to fix this.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
It may be hardware failure. The normal test for hardware/firmware issues is to flash back to stock. You have tried everything that I would suggest for such an issue, except perhaps flashing the latest stock. However, wifi works on all stock versions, so... your troubleshooting steps point to likely hardware failure.
Actually, there is one more step I can suggest. Install a custom kernel, and re-format everything, including USB memory (internal sd card- be sure to back up anything you don't want to lose) and remove any external card. Mr-cook has some scripts that can make the process easier. This is a little more thorough than just erasing the data from the partitions. Then install the stock firmware, preferably the latest stock UCMD8.

Hopefully, you have a basic understanding of memory partitioning. It is best to understand what you are doing, and not just follow someone else's recipe. That being said, you can use the first one, cook's rom wipe, which will format the system, preload, data, and cache partitions. If you also want to format the USB memory, you will need to do that from within recovery of the custom kernel: from the "mounts and storage" option, select "format /sdcard".
For installing the stock firmware, Odin3 v1.85 is recommended. Download the file from the Download Repository, extract the .tar.md5 file, and put that in the pda slot.
I actually have narrowed it down to a hardware issue, apparently I have the battery leaking issue. I've removed the corroded battery, and cleaned up the area which was effected. The phone still operates, however I still do not have Wifi. Is there something I can do to further fix the issue? I am missing a few tiny resistors in that area could they missing be the issue? I heard they just filtered the signal or something along those lines. What can I check or do before finally just needing a new mainboard.

I bought a phone cheap from the Swappa boneyard with a good screen but with the wifi not working to go with another phone I acquired which had a cracked screen but fully working main board. I combined the two into a fully working phone, and a phone with cracked screen and no wifi. The second phone sat in a box for a long time. Not too long ago, I read about the battery leaking issue, so I pulled that second phone apart and looked at the main board. Sure enough, the battery and the area around it was corroded. The phone was fully functioning except for the wifi.
I didn't play with it too much, but it looked to me like the battery was soldered onto the main board. Did you have to de-solder it to get it off? I believe that the battery is necessary for the wifi to work. I build electronics, but not on the miniature scale of a phone pcb. I have a professional soldering station, but I wouldn't attempt to work on a board like that myself. Unless you have the right equipment, and the experience to go with it...
I think you would need to replace the main board. You could try buying a phone with a broken screen that is otherwise working. It might be fairly cheap. But the I777 is getting old enough that it will be experiencing various kinds of failure, so it is a crap shoot.
I gave my original I777 to my wife, and bought one for myself on swappa over a year ago. The one I bought just went dark one day a few months ago. I don't know what part failed, but it was completely non-responsive, a true brick. My son had an I777 also, and he had cracked the screen, so I bought him an S4 for Christmas. I got his i777 and combined the main board with the good screen from my dead phone, to make a fully functioning phone. After setting that phone up and using it for a couple of weeks, one day the power switch failed. I'm still using that phone as my main phone, with gravity screen to overcome the failed power button, since I don't want to spend another $40 on it to get the power button replaced. The point of relating this is just to show how likely failures are.
Actually I just pulled it off, and cleaned the area. I've been reading that its suppose to keep the date and time, and I've also read that people don't actually know what its for. However I do know that since i pulled it my phone seems to heat up less. (It was getting rather hot) However wifi still does not work.
