I need some recommendations on which ROM is good for playing video files without lag.
Any/all froyo roms. Go to my website in signature.
Also, this type of thing definitely belongs in Q&A or general.
I have yet to find a ROM that will allow me to use Google talk video >.< im so frustrated I want to sell my Gtab

Works on android > 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). Our camera does not work properly above froyo.
Hang in there. ICS should be ready soon for our device. While the camera is not being worked on yet it sounds like we have the information and it may be possible to get it working once we have a stable ROM released.

I was feeling the same as you and I finally sold mine about two weeks ago. Bought a Xoom refurbished for $350 on Amazon and I have never been happier. Xoom just got ICS and it is amazingly fast. My advice: Make the jump to a serious tablet.
i have a gtab and now a transformer. i found a thread in the transformer forums that gives you all the handbrake settings to make 720p videos for the transformer. they work on the gtab using the stock video app with no lag. the only deviation i did was limit file size to 1.2 gigs. still looks very good. also did tron legacy as 2.5 gig and it plays great. looks good too.
gtab is running frankentab 1.0.9 fyi

Has anyone tried out the slingplayer for tablet app? The cracked one I had for my phone doesn't work on the tablet. I'm debating on shelling out the 30 bucks for the tablet version, but it's had some mixed reviews on the Android Market.
I've been using it without any issues so far.
I originally thought I had an issue because it would only show standard quality, and wouldn't go to high quality at all. But I found out my router dropped the port forwarding for some reason. Once that was corrected the HQ showed back up on first reconnect and all is good.

Are you running ICS? Which slingbox are you using?
I have the Dish Remote Access tablet app for streaming live TV and DVR content and it works great. One of the perks of being a dish customer I guess... I got the SlingBox for free and the app is free.
I have a Slingbox Solo. Some people on android market said it didn't work with certain models or firmware on certain models. Some also complained that it didn't work on ICS.
I just can't believe they charge 30 bucks for that app and if you want it on your phone, that's another 30 bucks. I know you can't use the web plugin on the Prime... also lame. However, I guess it's working for them because I'm still planning on getting it. One of the key reasons I bought a tablet to begin with.
I use the dish version and it works good

Im using the Slingplayer for phones app on my Prime running ICS and haven't had any problems with it. I originally paid 30 bucks for it back on my EVO 4G and have used it on every device since then. It installs automatically as soon as I log in with my google account. Hell I didnt even know there was a Tablet version.

I'm on ICS, and I've got the Slingbox Pro-HD.
Used the phone version for a few days, then switched to the tablet version. Only downside, is they overcharge for the app by at least 20 bucks.
The version I have for the phone doesn't even work on the tablet. It installs, but it won't launch. Granted it is an older version that was cracked... I was still surprised it doesn't work at all.
Oh well... looks like I will probably pay for the tablet version. Thanks for the input everyone!

The tablet version is supposed to have some HD functionality on it that the phone version doesn't have. Some of the reviews say it was way better picture quality than using the phone version on the tablet.

I purchased the Slingbox client, it "does" have the HQ feature. It also works on ICS.
Decided to purchase it last night. Picture is good on the Prime with ICS. It lacks the quick controls for the DVR like the phone app. Hopefully, they will improve the UI a bit.

Hello. I've got a Slingbox that won't stream HQ in the Android App, just like you.
I've checked my port forwarding and everything looks in order. How do you know that the Forwarding has been dropped and how did you fix it?
Your help is greatly appreciated...

good to know.thanks
The Launcher is actually pretty cool, very very simillar to MIUI, but its got it's own twist... I'm actually gonna run this for a little while and see how it does, first impressions are pretty good though...
Thanks for sharing, I installed the All-in-one as well, just to give it a test run, Its interesting... definately not a 1 of a kind app, I'll play with it and see how it does,I don't usually need apps like this, but this ones kinda interesting for sure.

No problem. I've stuck w/ this Launcher b/c of how smooth it runs on the 3D, and the in-drawer media organizer is great as well.
As for the All-in-one, I agree w/ you in the fact that it is very interesting and fairy low mem usage when running in background.
I've been trying to keep up on updates, but given the fact that it's all in Chinese, it's been easier to wait for the translated apk to be released lol..

Hey guys, so I can land an excellent condition 16gb Touchpad for $160 today if I decide to. My question is, should I?
Just some quick background, my girlfriend has the original iPad which I have access to. I have a HTC Rezound phone that I have rooted. I would most definitely be buying this to root and just have a device that is bigger than my phone when I want to watch YouTube videos, surf the net while on the couch, play some games, etc.
I see that CM7 and CM9 is compatible with the Touchpad. I also see that CM9 renders the device not fully functional (mic, camera). I honestly would rarely use the mic or camera, so it's no biggie there. My question however is how the device other than those things functions with CM9? Is it a smooth experience? Does everything else pretty much work? Will CM9 get to a point where everything works great?
I just want to see if I should buy this or another budget tablet like the Fire or any upcoming ones.
Any advice would be great, thanks!
I recommend going for it if you want a tablet. I just got mine a week ago and I dont even pick up my phone anymore. Both webOS and CM9 on the Touchpad are super smooth. Yes, the mic and camera dont work but, like you, I dont need those. Android on the Touchpad is fairly new and with all the popularity its been getting lately, the CyanogenMod team has made it official on their site so the development for it wont be done anytime soon.
As far as webOS, I love that OS as well. Its just a shame there isnt as much development for it as of right now. But the OS is going open source so hopefully that will get some development going on it. Its really nice to dual boot both operating systems though and have a choice.
I dont think you would regret it though. I bought the 32GB version though since I knew I was going to install android on it. You might want to see if others say 16GB is enough for putting Android on it.

Thanks a lot for the response! Yeah, I think I am going to pull the trigger on it.
Hmm, I didn't really think about if Android would fit on the 16gb, but I would find it hard to believe if it didn't. But you're right, can anyone else chime in about that?
Thanks!

It will for sure fit. But that leaves less room for other stuff you put on it. I currently am down to 20 gigs left out of 32. But I have game roms and game data on there too.

Go for it! You'll have a dual boot tablet. You'll find that webos is a great os. Battery life is great and you can always switch to android when needed. Even though android is Alpha now, it works great. You won't regret it.
I think 16 is plenty for my use. Like you I generally web browse, YouTube, etc. I really don't store any content on my device. I have all the apps I could want, on Android and webOS. Here is a screenshot of the storage menu - 820 MB of 1.46 GB left for apps, 7.79GB left of 10.75GB for storage. The device is partitioned when you install Android, so you do lose about 3 GB. But when do you even really get the amount advertised?

This just posted about an hour before your thread.
But edit...never mind.
Hey fellow rezounder. I had the touchpad since the firesale. Never used it really. I recently had a slow weekend so I threw cm9 on that beast. Now I use it every day. Webos is great but there just aren't any apps.
Cm9 is awesome. Everything you need is working. I even usesd titanium backup to restore all my apps from my rezound to the touchpad. I just bought the touchstone charging dock last night. I'm addicted to the touchpad again!

I'm currently running CM9 on my 16 gb Touchpad and haven't run into a shortage. Even with quite a bit of media content (Several movies, a TV series) I still have room to spare.
For your lighter usage I think you will have no problems with the 16gb version.
Get it... You get a good dual core and 1 gb ram tablet for a very cheap price. I use it more often than my brand new laptop for games, surfing, youtube, schools pdfs etc. 16 gb is big enough for tons of apps and stuff.

I concur. Heck, I torrent and then drop my stuff on my WII; right from my touchpad. Our computer (with 5 hard drives) barely gets turned on anymore.

I have a 16GB touchpad, and pairing it with a bluetooth keyboard its replaced my laptop as my go-to machine while out of the house. I take all my class notes and write drafts of papers using it, and its been very solid in terms of reliability. It does sometimes reboot by itself, but I've noticed it only happens after idling for a while and never while actually using it.
Storage isnt a big issue for me, after installing Android the SD card has about 10.5GB free which is plenty as long as you dont put a lot of music or video on it.
I'd say go for it. Its an absolutely amazing tablet for the price and with a dev community that's only going to grow as CM9 gets out of alpha.
Thanks so much for all of the responses guys! I ended up pulling the trigger on a 16gb one last night for $160 from a local Craigslist deal. It came in the original box with all of the original cables and paperwork. Everything is in brand new, mint condition! I was stoked.
The guy had no clue that you could even install Android on it. He said he was getting rid of it because it didn't have "all of the good iPad apps". LOL.
Anyways, his loss, my gain. I threw CM9 on it with ease last night and let me tell you, I am super happy with the purchase! This tablet is a steal for the price I paid.
Just a quick question, on webOS can you place shortcuts and such on the homescreen? I couldn't figure out how to do it.
Thanks!

You can drag icons from the drawer to the dock. That's it, there's no "desktop" in webOS.
I like a clean desktop and getting to my apps in webos is not a problem. I do have ICS installed and like the dual boot option but WebOs is so smooth that I really prefer it.

Works fine on my 16G with CM9 as well. I don't understand the hype. I do not get it... it is just a RSS newsfeed reader with added fancy flipping pictures. Limited topics and usefulness.

Just replaced pulse with this! Such a smooth program. It is just another rss but the fact that it is so intuitive and simple make it a winner for myself.
I installed this as well, but I think I'll keep Pulse as my go-to news app, for now anyways.
I really like Flipboard for the iPad, but you can tell this android version was made for a phone. It doesn't look as clear as it should. Hopefully there's a tablet optimized version soon.
After trying it out some more, i realized what everyone was saying, it is quite limited, however I still like the science articles. I am a masters student studying environmental toxicology and that is what interests me right now. So i think ill keep it until i find something better to replace it with.

It is a bit limited. Sure is pretty, though.
Won't replace Pulse for me any time soon.
Thanks! Very nice

I had the same thoughts as you. Flipboard is nice with all the flipping effects, but pulse is more like a workhorse - all the news content at one glance.
I like pulse much better...
Is anyone having problems updating their Flipboard app? I had it on my CM7 alpha but i updated to beta and now it won't install anymore. I can side load it just fine, but I was curious if it's an issue with the Nook Tablet since there's a BN app for it.
It updated last night for me on CM9.
