Hi all, am I being thick? I've tried searching to no avail.
Okay, say you're in a call and the person/machine at the other end asks you to input a long series of numbers. You bring up the keypad but you accidentally enter a wrong number. You look for the backspace key to correct the error, but it's not there. It WAS there, when you first pulled up the number pad to dial the number, but now that you're actually inside a call, it's gone. There is no backspace key when you pull up the numpad inside a call.
Like I say: am I being thick? I'd love someone to tell me. I hadn't noticed this until yesterday, when I had to enter a very long number whilst in a call.

Like any good XDA2 owner, I have messed about with loads of utility programs, only to un-install them when they proved a waste of time.
Somewhere along the line, I have messed up my Missed Calls utility. If I miss a call, the red LED flashes for a while, and a balloon with lines appears at the top of the screen, to the left of the O2 symbol. When I click that, there is no info in it.
I am sure that this used to show me the name/number of a missed call. Any ideas how I can get that facility back?
In phone sreen, you can press call history button to see the detail of missed call.
Missed Calls Details
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I realise that the missed calls are logged in the telephone Call History page, but I was hoping the resurrect the facility to show the details on the desktop.
Has something gone wrong in the registry?
Surely in normal, you can see the caller's number there if you click on the balloon. Recently, I sometime also have problem with that, when I click on the balloon, the information board appears with one flash (no information displayed on that) then disappears immediately. I saw it after I install the spb Pocket plus 2.5. But after softreset, things will be OK.
Someone can help us?
This dialer is really aweful considering there is no smart dial..
plus you cant tap the contact and have their numbers popup so you can choose which you want to call.
these are basics of wm and i dont have these features. I love the phone and it's features, but smart dial is extremely important to me and im sure to others as well.
is there something i can do to replace the dialer?
help if you can
Thank you
There is Smart Dial on my Sprint Touch Pro. The thing that bothers me is everytime you touch a name under the dialer it automatically starts calling them. I would like it to go to the contact so you can pick which number to call.

You have to click on the input bar at the very top of the screen before you touch a name. This will search instead of dial.

Use your D-pad to scroll through the numbers, press Left or Right after you see the name.
Possible threadjack...
...How do you input extra numbers to be dialed after the phone number, i.e., to dial a pause and your password for instance).
I thought it was "," but that didn't work. And for short numbers like traffic "511" plus the highway, I put in 511,4951 and it converts it to 511-4951.
^^ the letter p is for pause and w is for wait ^^

Too bad you can't make the input bar a little bigger, I find it hard to tap the input box without using the stylus. Most times I can tap everything with my finger but that input box always messes me up.
I use the Sprint Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) feature almost exclusively now to dial numbers from my Contacts. Regardless of what Sprint calls it, it's Microsoft Voice Command and it works quite well. There's no training and you don't have to record voice tags. It just works
It even works well with a Bluetooth headset. Just tap the answer/call button on the headset and tell your phone who to dial. If there's more than one number for the contact, it will ask which one to dial. I rarely take my phone out of the holster to make a call.

Yeah, I dial everyone with it unless there's too much background noise. I LOVE it.
You can also tell it to start programs by saying "Start " then the program name, OR, you can tell it to play media files by saying the same thing. You can even ask it for the date and time and your battery level. I never even really knew how good it was until I used it. Not one review I read talked about it.
i dont think you guys understand what i am saying... i owned the xv6800 for 2 years and the i760 also... smartdial does work on the touch pro but when you hit the number with your finger it calls that number.. with the xv6800 and i760 you tap and hold and all the contact info comes up in a little popup and you tap the number you want to call..
as for the dpad.. the dpad takes alot to get use to..it's too easy to make mistakes using the dpad.
i brought back the original dialer through the reg and it still did not help. htc has completely taken over the os with their proprietary software. not too smart on their end. i have also disabled the touch flo and you get the same ugly white dialer.
Just read!
And the answer you were given in this thread is that when you see the number in your call history, you use your d-Pad to scroll through the numbers in your directory and when you see the one you want you hit enter and your phone will "F"-ing dial it. Can you not read?

In my dialer, it has a Contacts button in the lower left corner. If you use that, then it works the way you describe: click a contact and then you can pick which number you want to use. Doesn't everyone have this?
I agree with the OP. I would like to have smart dialer access Contacts so that I can quickly pull up someone's full contact info and then decide which number to call. I also try to avoid using the D pad because it isn't 100% accurate (or at least not for me) and I have had trouble dialing the wrong number or person inadvertently.
Trying to use the current Contacts option isn't very finger friendly for me.
Update - I just used Advanced Config to turn off the dialer skin, and now I have what I was looking for. At least with Sprint, the basic dialer has smart dial that allows you to tap a contact and it brings up the persons contact info, rather than just dialing their default number. I'm going to give this a try for a while.
I use Spb's Mobile shell to do as you describe.

QWERTY stuck on compact, wont change to Full
I have been doing some tweaking to my phone and after adding the black dialer, my QWERTY that displays with messages is the compact and not the full anymore. I have tried to change it in the Today section but it keeps reverting back to the compact style. I have not been able to locate the cab file to delete it. Any help would be great, thanks I should specify, I am using the touch pro
come across a weird problem, wonder if anyone else is getting it.
When I call the bank or something, they often have "please enter your id number" or something like that, quite often, I dial the number ion on the phone and the number doesn't pop up on the screen, so I hit it again, but the "woman-bot" on the other does register it!!
not a huge problem, just have to be careful.
Hi,
I've got the HD2 WM6.5 and I reaaly love it. One problem though: I can't call numbers from within google maps. The device stops dialing before the slash ("/"), so it only dials the prefix of each number. I googled this problem and found others to have the same issue, but no result as of yet. Does anyone in here know a solution or workarround?
Thanks in advance
Tim
Hold on, not all at once. Cmon, I know this is an issue. Nobody with a solution/workarround?
Tim
Have you got the latest Google Maps?
I'm not having any problems. If I select a business for instance, it says tap for options. Tapping brings up all the things I can do (set as start point, call, etc.) Selecting call places the call correctly. I don't see where there's a "/" in the number.
Has anyone noticed that when you put a pound key (#, aka number symbol, octothorpe etc) in a contact's number, it doesn't work? I.e. the # dtmf tone is not sent when you call the number, while other tones are sent properly.
For example, I set my voicemail number to *86,,5555# (the 5555 part is just for illustration, and should be filled in with the voicemail pin)
Whenever my phone calls voicemail, it says "Sending Tones 5555" but it doesn't mention the #, and I can tell that the # tone is not sent, because the voicemail system waits a few seconds after the password is sent, which is exactly what it does when I dial it manually and neglect to press #. When I do press pound manually, the system continues immediately without a pause.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or has anyone else been able to sucessfully send the # key?
hi, i haven't had this happen personally, but would puting space between the password and the # give the sytem time to receive it.? don't know if it will but i never had this happen either.hope this helps. hp
I don't think you can add spaces, but I added a comma (which indicates a pause) after the pin. That didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion though.
##7764726(spc=000000) and *#*#4636#*#* are hidden menus so the # may be handled special.
I actually noticed this today when I was trying to get through a damn automated menu. It kept asking me to hit the # key after things but kept telling me "Invalid Entry". I literally used every other button, to include * during the call and everything else worked. This is no bueno!
What version of Android and what Rom(if any) are you running? I am on 2.3.4 w/Eclipse v1.1
Thanks, AtLemacks, It's nice to know someone else has experienced the same thing (misery loves company I guess).
I'm using the same android version and ROM that you are. But I'm pretty sure I had the problem even back when I was using using P3Droid's Rooted Gingerbread without any ROM. I don't remember if I tried it when I was on stock Froyo.
I didn't have this problem before, I call/go through that menu fairly often.
did anyone figure it out?
I am suffering the same problem. Did anyone ever figure out how to send pound sign #?
Try a alternate dialer like Dialer One or the like.
Edit try voicemail *86, the # key skips to the next msg on my Milestone x2 port.
Found a solution
Found a solution, not sure if everyone can use it. I am using Motorola Photon with Sprint. My solution is to create a contact like this for google voice dial out
15125553010,,2,3235551110,#,,,1234,0118521234567,#
and it works for me. I can now use a direct dial icon on my home screen to call. The trick is the first pound sign. It needs comma before the pound sign and the three comma behind it.
Anybody else find a work around?
I am glad to hear that I am not alone, but a little dismayed to not see any answers to my days of searching for a solution. Has anyone else come up with an alternative work around? The direct dial method above didn't work for me.
Using a Galaxy S i9000 rooted with paranoid android 2.52 (although I did have this same problem with other mods as well)
Thanks!
