Hello. I have a few questions. I currently have a samsung galaxy s2 on bell with 2.3.3 firmware on it. The battery is not very good. I am thinking about upgrading the firmware or going with checkROM. Now to my questions.
1. I have downloaded a newer firmware version 2.3.5 but it is a zip file. I extracted it and don't see any .tar file to load into Odin. Where is the .tar file?
2. If I want to load checkROM RevoHD V4 onto my phone can I just do that? Do I have to have newer firmware than 2.3.3 on the phone to do this?
Thanks

Hi everybody.
I am new to android. I have SGS II with:
-PDA: I9100XWKF3
-PHONE: I9100XXKE7
-CSC: I9100XXKF1
STOCK FIRMWARE NOT ROOTED.
I downloaded i9100XXKG1.zip file which contain the following files.
-CODE_I9100XXKG1_CL349526_REV02_user_low_ship.tar
-GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG1.tar
-MODEM_I9100XXKG1_REV_02_CL1034110.tar
-u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit
If I rename this file and place into /sdcard folder is it possible to update my phone to the latest fw or not?

Do NOT do that you have to use odin and there are plenty of guides on the dev section on how to flash.
But a quick recap is install kies and then install odin, download the tar file put the phone into download mode and then ONLY click the pda button and point to the tar file and click start.
I REPEAT DO NOT CLICK ANYTHING ELSE.
Why do you want to flash a leaked non-official release the first thing you do if you're new to Android?
SGS2 is a great phone that gives a great experience out of the box, my suggestion is to update to latest official firmware for your region and then start to learn SGS2 and Android one step at a time.
There are tons of things to learn, it like learning a new language, it takes time. And starting with advanced stuff directly is asking for trouble.
Of course you're free to do as you want, but this is my recommendation.
The first step into the more advanced tweaking is to root the phone but I wouldn't hurry with that either.

I placed the low file in PDA, the modem in phone and csc in csc and then flashed, worked perfectly, that is the proper way to update I believe.... Don't do nothing with the pit file! Delete the pit, pit = danger

Thanks.
Thanks for your replies.
The only reason I want to update to 2.3.4 is because of video chat with gtalk.
I bought my phone In Sweden and it is Updated with latest available official firmware.
I am owner of a Bada phone and an Archos IT5 (Android 1.6) so I am not completely new to android os.
But anyway thanks a lot for your help.
Hi
After flashing my phone multiple times and running all sorts of roms, Im looking to flash back so Kies will upgrade me to an official ICS in the next few days.
However, Im a UK o2 contract, so downloaded from samfirmware this.
GT-I9100 I9100XWKE1 ## 2.3.3 2011 May MULTIO2UKE1 United Kingdom (O2) Download
I tried the newer (2.3.5) version too.
When I flash with odin it gives me lots of red errors on reboot (think it was cannot read directory/access directory).
IS this down to repartitioning? on some of my first flashes I included a pit file selected repartition in odin (as instructed). IF so is there an official samsung .pit
file and I will try that?
It didnt work after the red errors so I had to reflash the CWM Kernel back and do a nandroid restore.
Thanks.
I have a single .TAR file
I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100O2UKE1_HOME.TAR
and a PIT File.
u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.PIT
Is this all you need to return back to stock?
Put the Pit in the PIT section, tick repartition and have the TAR file in the PDA.
Thanks
Apparently you should NEVER flash a PIT file. Try reflashing just the rom, without the pit.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
yea, I havent flashed stock rom with the pit.
I used a pit file for a rom I put on a while ago.
Now im running Westcrips ICS 4.0.3 perfectly.
However, due t a few little niggles etc I want stock, when I flash stock it doesnt work.
Im wondering whether I need to use the original pit or just to keep trying without pit file/repartitioning.
You mess with pit you may end up down the bricked road .
Leave it well alone .
Rule is never use PIT or repartition for all standard flashes.
Problems with reverting to GB then flash an older bootloader .

Do they not post stock the roms on here in original Android dev section? Wouldn't it be easier to wait for that instead?
Galaxy S2 I9100 Android version: 2.3.5 Baseband: I9100XXKE7 Kernal: 2.6.35.11-ninmphetamine-2.0.5+ [email protected] #20 Build: villainrom 3.0 Theme: Clear Glass 1.5
cheers all, Ill try and see if I can find an older bootloader then
Old/new bootloaders attached. Use at your own risk, I am not responsible for whatever happens to your phone as a result of you flashing them, etc, etc

I'm curious, as I'm on an 02 contact.
Do you know this will be available through Kies in the next few days?
I spoke to 02 at the end of last week and they told me to keep checking their website for any news regarding Android 4.0 upgrades so i'm thinking it won't be any time this month at least.
I reflashed from CM9 back to O2 Stock I9100XWKJ1_I9100O2UKJ1_O2U. I used Mobile ODIN and it worked fine. Only problem I had was going back to a non-rooted stock rom was so restrictive, i ended up giving up and going back to a rooted ICS. I'll wait until the official release then go back again and try!
yea, flashed back to stock - forgot how bad it was, flashed now the new Official leaked European version (ics 4.0.3) - still not as good as westcrips remix. - horrible music player etc.
Gonna stick with it until people start modding the official rom now, now the code is out there.
Already had to flash a modded systemiu.apk for battery percentage etc.

Hello,
go to sammobile, search for your device. Select your country and provider even Gingerbread 2.3.6 or ICS 4.0.3. download Odin 1.85 too.
Unzip the downloaded file. You get a .tar file.
If you flash the .tar file (select PDA in Odin 1.85)you will return to stock and the phone will even be unrooted.
succes
Hello,
I am giving my S2 to a relative and looking to get my phone back to stock. I have the stock rom on my phone but am using the Siyah kernel. I've been looking through XDA and Google to find the stock kernel for India XWLST 4.1.2. I know the entire firmware file is avaliable on SamMobile but I am using a metered connection. If someone would be so kind to download the firmware tar and extract the kernel image in .tar format, that would be appreciated. Thanks.
