[OBSOLETE][How To] Run Hulu Plus On your Photon! - Motorola Photon 4G

THIS THREAD IS NOW OBSOLETE - GO HERE FOR A MODDED APK THAT WORKS WITH THE PHOTON
So after a bit of digging and messing around, I managed to get the Hulu Plus app working on my Photon. This is the original thread I found the information on how to do it, but I figured I'd write it out in a guide and post here and on the Xoom subforum.
Root access is required for this method to work as well as Titanium Backup. You must also have a Hulu Plus account in order to log in to the app. Sorry, no free videos via this app
1. You will need to first download this Zip Folder.
Inside you should find 3 files.
2. Take these files and move them to your Titanium Backup folder (where all the backups are stored). All three files need to be moved here.
3. Open Titanium Backup. Toggle on over to the Backup/restore tab and scroll toward the bottom. You should now see the HuluPlus app here.
4. Click on Hulu Plus and select Restore..
5. The key step! You must select App + Data. Selecting only App will result in Hulu+ being restored but upon opening, indicating that your device is not supported. Select App + Data!
And there you go. Open Hulu Plus and you can begin watching.
Let me know if it works for you if you try it! Enjoy!
If you have any issues, I suggest going into settings -> applications and finding hulu plus and clearing data. Then return to Titanium backup and restore Data only.

It works. Now to try with a dummy account.

back to the drawing board :(
if someone would be so kind as to test
this is a flashable zip

Works for me.

Installs but says device not supported. You guys actually seeing video?

Works for me. Thanks. Had to restore data a second time but it worked.

Did you follow the directions exactly? I know some people who have tried installing the apk file first (not linked in my thread, from elsewhere) then doing a backup + restore.
As far as I can tell its best to have zero data of Hulu+ on your phone and follow my steps. If it doesn't work, try rebooting. If that doesn't work, uninstall, remove the files and try again.

Titanium Backup Issues

Picked up a Vibrant a few days ago, but Im having some issue restoring my apps using Titanium backup 3.3.2.
I having an issue where Titanium Backup says its restoring, but just sits there doing nothing. Somehow Ive managed to get it to restore once, but I had to wipe and now I cant get it to restore for the life of me. Tried w/ original busybox and the one that downloads inside titanium, both w/o success. Seems that titanium has some sort of issue w/ the Galaxy S.
Has anyone found a solution that allows you to restore your apps? Thanks!
EDIT: Whats really strange is if I try to hide titanium, relaunch it, and try and backup. It gives the message "backup already in progress" but for whatever reason it moves onto the next app...so strange
EDIT2: FIXED IT thanks to Joel, the awesome dev behinf titanium. Go into options and change the install method to "AUTO, Indirect" and it should work. Hope this helps others!
AWESOME!!! Thanks!
I also think Joel has one of the best apps for android. Great support and Dev.
I need a little kind help runing this.
When I press any of the batch RUNs I just go back to the previous screen.
I have the latest version, busybox install, rooted.
I can backup individual files, but nothing from the BATCH screen works.

open TB and before doing anything click the menu key.
Now click Preferences, App Installer Mode and change that to Auto INDIRECT, by default it will use Auto, Direct.
Now try to run a batch restore

Still nothing, when I press RUN I just go back to the Backup/Restore screen.
Should I then be looking for a GO or LAUNCH button?
This same thing happens on my G1, so it must be an evident stupid mistake I'm making, but I can't figure out what.

If your on the Vibrant now. you would once you open TB, push the soft key all the way to the left and a menu will come up.
Go into preferences from here.
Ah. had a bad install of Ti Backup.
Reinstalled and works as ordered now.
thanks.

Appreciate your patience and assistance here.
Yes, I've gone to Preferences and made the change your suggested. This is not my problem.
I can not run any batch commands. I can not backup/restore/verify or any of the other choices.
When I press any of the RUN options, I drop back to the Backup/Restore screen and nothing happens.

ah sorry I misunderstood.
Couple questions.
Does the backup/restore batch commands your running show a number to the right indicating how many apps are being restored/backed up?
TB should request Super User permissions when it first launches, but to make sure open Super User and make sure you see TB in the list of allowed applications.
Thanks for your help. Everything works fine now.
See my previous edited post.
Don't recall ever having to reinstall a faulty app before. Still it is something I should have checked earlier.
Since the OPs problem has been sorted, I hope its Ok that I post a problem.
I wanted to do a factory reset to see if it would improve some performance issues.
- DLed Ti
- menu > batch > run "backup all user apps and sys data" > select all > run (all items under backup/restore tab had check, smilie, or smilie with M)
- factory reset
- installed Ti
- menu > batch > run "restore all apps and data" > select all > run
- clicked "install" for each downloaded app (is this normal or should it be automatic?) data was reinstalled automatically
- rebooted
All downloaded apps were restored and settings were restored.
market dl history was not restored, system user data was not restored (browser bookmarks, text, call log etc)
- opened Ti
- menu > batch > run "restore missing apps and all sys data" > select all > run
- reboot
market links are now restored but still no texts, call log, browser bookmarks, wifi keys, bluetooth pairings etc.
I'm great full that Ti made restoring apps so much easier but I know it can restore all sys user data as well. What did miss or do wrong?
Ok so I have an issue where i was flashing the ROM Tranquility for my droid x and it was difficult to get it running but now it seems to be going ok. But now I'm trying to restore all my apps using Titanium and for some reason as soon as i try to restore even one, the phone quick reboots. So why are you posting it in the vibrant subforum? I recommend posting this as a new thread in the droid x, q and a section. Since we're on the wrong carrier with a different device.

I have a problem where I backed up all of my data, verified it successfully then installed the latest Continuum 5.5(updated from 5.4.1) and then tried to restore my system data(Contacts, SMS, etc.) but after the reboot, none of these show up?
If it verified without any errors then how could it just suddenly not show up?
Brilliant, I am glad this post is around because I was having the hardest time trying to figure this one out. Thanks for the info!!

This just helped me with restoring my HTC Sensation! Google is awesome, lol.
"AUTO, Indirect"
didn't do any good...
I'm up to try regular android restore, but will take ages...
I don't see this option "AUTO, indirect" in TitaniumBackup 4.4.0 version, but I have same problem here.
Finally found that "indirect mode". Works great now, thanks !!!!

I have a problem with some restored apps such as Gmail. If I restore app and data the app won't sync properly. It will delete the emails but they still show in unread and when I load Gmail on the PC the emails are still there.
I have found numerous apps to do this.
Has anyone encountered it and solved it? I've tried everything including indirect but all I can do is reinstall the apps and set them up again.

Contacts Issue and Apps.zip

I have found a couple people that have frozen or removed apps and are starting to get issues with their contacts. Not being able to remove, add, update, or anything with them. So I am posting a zip file off all of the apps for people that have removed them without backing them up. You simply need to restore the app that you removed which is most likely a yahoo contacts or email that is tied into the contacts. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2VU48HSU
Great resource this. I was going to post mine up soon, but you beat me to it. Only had my X2 for a day.
Do you restore these with titanium backup? Because I backed up the bloat ware and later tried to restore it to no luck. However the apps were frozen when backed up so perhaps that caused an issue?
I don't think titanium backup is good at restoring. I've tried it a couple times with no luck. if you place a copy of the zip file extracted on your sd card and open it with files select the application you want to install you can install it from there. I personally only like titanium backup for freezing the application I don't use and cannot remove.

Sorry, I'm rather new to this whole root thing. I uninstalled backupassistant with Titanium backup and my contacts got screwed. I downloaded the zip and tried to install Backupassistant.apk but it says "application was not installed". Is there a specific way that I need to reinstall? Root explorer does not allow me to change permissions from read only for "system" so I can't move the apk files in there.

Check and see if you are rooted first. You cannot install system files as a normal app. They must be pushed to system/app or placed there using root explorer. Check and see if you are rooted or that you superuser has blocked root explorer.

Edit Below
I think I know what your talking about, follow Nitros instructions but when you are at the starting folder in Root Explorer press the Mount R/W button, I believe as long as you stay in the program (or don't press back too many times, because if you are at the base folder and press back it will go back to R/O) any folder you go into will say "R/W" at the top. So just press the button when its available and THEN go into the folder you need to go to and the setting will stick.
Edit: actually I just was messing with my phone and the reason I saw that behavior is because I was in the SD card where its always R/W. If its not showing up then yeah I'd listen to Nitro on this one, though I have no idea how you got rid of Backup assistant without root.
So I just copied the app list you posted onto my phone and now its in a boot loop. I thought that when I copied all of them over it would let me choose to not replace files already there. Now the phone is in a boot loop.
This may sound stupid, but I am kinda hoping its reinstalling the apks, one with each boot? But I kinda have a sneaking suspicious that I just ruined my phone since there is no SBF
Also, the boot times before restarting are not consistent, does this mean anything?

If you are in a bootloop but all of your apps are still in place there is a slight chance that you could do a factory reset through recovery and the phone will boot.

Yeah I am rooted with gingerbreak 1.2. As of now Im not really concerned with the contacts anymore because I can still add and save new contacts. My concern now is that when the OTA Gingerbread update is out for the X2, will I be able to install it without the original Bloat.

Yeah my office tech support guy took a look at it and tried it, we got an error indicator icon when we tried. I don't think it finished copying, I think everything dying killed the copy process and left something important unfinished.
Now I am a little wiser for my new phone.

So I'm guessing the only way to get these programs reinstalled is if the SBF is available for the X2, which it is not?

Hulu Plus

All credits goes to huntken, i'm just posting here. Works on Malice and zen, should work on other GB roms too. Original thread here..
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=2526
Directions:
1. Delete Hulu Plus if you have it installed already.
2. Delete any backups you may have of it in Titanium Backup.
3. Get Titanium Backup if you don't already have it.
4. Download this file here: and unzip it, there will be 3 folders in it.
5. Place all 3 folders in the sdcard/TitaniumBackup folder
6. Launch Titanium Backup and restore the backup.
7. Enjoy?
And of course I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong and blah blah blah.
PLEASE NOTE: You can't use "Ad Free" or anything that modifies hosts for this, or the videos won't load.
It tells me device not supported. Could this be due to modified host file?
Hell yeah. Works perfect.

I did everything as described and it does not want to be restorable.
It shows up in titanium backup (free) as not backed up yet.
I am running ZenDroid v2.0.1 (Froyo 2.2)
Titanium Backup Free 3.6.0
EDIT: I rebooted the phone and it is restorable now.
I loads fine but requires a log in to view any videos.
^^
Well hulu plus is a paid service. You need a subscription in order to use the app just like netflix.

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Works perfectly for me.
nice!!! loving it
Doesn't work for me on stock rooted 2.2 Vibrant.
Worked fine for me on a Nook Color with CM7... so maybe Froyo stock is just not good enough for Hulu Plus. On the Froyo stock I get 'buffering' .. endless, never plays anything.. but login and queue works.
I haven't tried Hulu on my phone in a while, guess it's time again haha
Running Simply Honey 5.1 and I get device not supported too.
Hi. What ROM does this work with on the Samsung Vibrant? Thanks.
David
I'm using CM-Trigger-vibrant-0822 and this worked great. Thanks so much!
I used to use one modded by Racing19969 for the Galaxy S 4G when I had it, when I dusted off my old Vibrant I tried it out and all is well as I said all credit goes to Racing19969

[Q] Wanting to get my "feet wet"!

Been reading/researching for the last week or two; and the solid info keeps leading me back here to xda!
As a long time personal system builder with some OC'ing experience and flight sim beta testing, I'm starting my trek to the dark side of these android phones.
Just upgraded the wife from an original razr to the X2, and she's perfectly happy. I'm waiting on Santa for a new Droid Razr. So, my plan is to get started on the X2 with the goal of rooting it, then immediately doing a backup using Moon Shadow's excellent stickys along with the help of anyone else that wishes to post. Thinking the X2 experience should help to calm my nerves once I really get into the Razr.
Couple of questions that are sticking in my mind right now are:
Am I understanding the stickys correctly that I should be doing the nandroid backup immediately after rooting? This includes backing up before installing any optional apps such as TI, etc?
In Moon Shadow's Nandroid and Backup Recovery, it's recommended to use Dropbox to get the Recovery APK over on the phone and installed. Any other methods that will work equally well? Would a simple copy/paste of the APK to the sd card suffice? Or would I at least need some sort of apk "installer" to finish the install?
Also, any other apps to keep this X2 lean and clean so as to make it as simple and pain free as possible for the wife? She likes simple/easy to use. I'll be providing tech support and keeping it as optimal as possible.
I'll close this long ass post with a simple THANK YOU to all the members/devs here on xda for tolerating us "noobs" and providing a wealth of info for those wishing to learn the "right" way!
A nandroid is a good idea after rooting imo. Although you can always sbf back to stock if need be. The reason it's a good idea is if you are going to remove stock apps yourself, you can restore back to stock rooted if you remove something important that screws up your phone.
You can copy/paste the apk to your sdcard, no problem. You'll want a file browser to get to it and install. Personally I like Root Browser, Root Explorer, or Astro. You should be able to install through any of those.

First I'd just like to say welcome. You're in for a good time. Nandroids are just good to keep as a refference point so that if your phone gets messed up you can just restore the backed up image vs having to sbf, reroot etc. You are more than welcome to install any apps you would like before a nandroid backup but I recommended doing it before you flash anything or start making modifications that require root permissions.
As far as the recovery Apk is concerned, I just keep it on my external SD, that way I can just find it with root explorer or a similar directory app and install it from there. Very simple. There is no installer app needed, just turn on the setting that allows third party apps, select it within the directory and you should be given the option to install.
Not really sure what you need to keep everything simple. Maybe some specifics would help. I could suggest looking into different Widgets so you can have access to certain things right on the homescreen.
Glad to see you here!

I do nand backups regularly and delete the old(usually keep 2 most recent just in case) to keep up to date and before changing roms or updating. you can also restore just the data if you go into Advanced Restore and choose data restore as long as your previous rom you did the backup on and the current rom you are restoring it to are on the same version (2.2.2, 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5+ are all different). Its typically not required to restore when updating although some roms will in earlier testing stages sometimes or if a drastic change occurs to the rom but its a good idea to back it up prior just in case.
As far as apk files are concerned the easiest way for me to keep them is emailed to myself through gmail because you can install the app straight from your email without having to download it to the phone(there will be an install button in the body of the email when checking it from your phone). You can email them to yourself on the computer and move them to a special file to save space on your internal or external sd and keep the files for whenever you might need them.
As far as "keeping it clean"...just flash a clean rom and choose a script you can find and read about in the development section that will tailor your needs best. in my opinion apps that are made to save battery, free memory, and keep programs from running only make the phone slower and use more battery because those types of apps will always be running and therefore counterproductive. There are some good root apps out(search "root" on market) that help out a good deal, but they are few and far between imo. Just find what you like(or she likes), the more you find out about these phones the more uses you find in it.
Good luck

Yes, at this point I'd prefer to restore back to stock rooted vs. sbf; and it's good to know I've got both as options.

Glad to hear the simplified procedure for installing the apk. I'm sure once I get it rooted, and a solid backup saved, I'll take some time to evaluate what to add app wise along with the Widgets.

From my reading/research I have it burned to memory to always stay with the same version when restoring! Her X2 is currently on 2.3.4 via the OTA update.
Good idea on using the gmail account! Had no idea this way was an option.
Once I get over the initial shock of getting it rooted and backedup, I'm sure I'll look at a custom ROM if she allows it. Just need to do additional research on how to choose the right ROM for her needs. And right now, I'm totally in the dark on choosing a "script"; but I'll also learn this as I go.
Thanks for your feedback!
Preliminary Game Plan
At this point, I've put together an initial game plan. Currently have on the desktop pc: Pete's Root Tools v1.07, RSD Lite v5.6 along with the GB 2.3.4 SBF, and the MOTO_Bootstrap_signed.rar (apk).
Please feel free to confirm or correct my plan.
1. Root the phone via Moon Shadow's X2 Tutorial using Pete's v1.07.
2. Once Pete's tool gives me confirmation that the phone is rooted, upgrade SU and Busybox via the Market. Sure would like a confirmation on this step!
3. Prior to the backup, copy the Droid X2 Recovery APK over to the external sd card, dl Root Explorer which is going to let me "install" the Recovery APK.
4. Follow Moon Shadow's X2 nandroid/backup Tutorial by launching the Recovery APK and following his Backup prodedure.
5. My plan is to backup to the external sd card so I can also keep a copy on the desktop along with one on an external thumb drive. Sorry if I sound too redundant!
A few of the apps I plan on purchasing/dl'ing (don't mind contributing small $ for the pro/pay versions as I hope it thanks them for their hard work and encourages continued upgrades) are:
TI Backup Pro
Root Explorer (File Manager)
My Backup Pro (for the wife's contacts, messages, photos, etc.)
Again, all feedback/corrections/confirmations will be appreciated!
Thanks!

YES GET ROOT EXPLORER
it will.make ur.life SO MUCH EASIER in the.long run. You will definitely get your moneys worth within the first 2weeks of using it. Simple UI and very efficient set-up. All u need for a root file explorer. BEST choice
I don't use TI backup...
Anything TI does can be done manually by using root explorer to copy apks to sdcard..
I lied...ti can backup data for apps as well...but I have seen problems arise sometimes...I just personally don't use it...
I recommend bloat freezer if u plan on freezing any apps ...it is like dipping the apps in liquid nitrogen...best app freezer available PERIOD...((TI "freezes" as well but uses a different process and some apps don't "freeze" all the way))) ur choice tho experimentation is KEY and us the main point have fun with it..as long as u have a nandroid or sbf file u are good to try TONS of stuff knowing u will be able to get back easily.
Can't comment on "my backup pro" but I can say that if u store your contacts synced to google and/or backup assistant that they will always be available to u. They get backed up to an o line account (gmail for google...myverizonwirelessc.com>>>backup assistant ))) photos get stored on sdcard and shouldn't be deleted unless u choose to format sd cards.

Oh...and updating the superuser app itself isn't necessary ....good idea to update its binary tho....but do NOT worry bout it....the first time u grant SU permission to something it will ask u if u want to update the binary and u can just press the notification in the pulldown window to do it....
Busybox ----. U can if u want to.
But if u flash eclipse it comes with busybox 1.19.gitadrynaline...
Not sure what is installed when initially rooted...never checked...
if u want to update I recommend that version...I've never had any issues with it. And it isn't an app. It is installed to system/xbin I believe....it allows for different commands/scripts to work properly....someone can explain better than me if u need to know what it does...
u can update busybox via busybox installer from market....there are a couple...most are pretty fond of the one made by jrummy ....

Thanks for all the detailed info! Things have been hectic the last few days, so my plan is to get started this weekend when I have plenty of un-interrupted time.
Really looking forward to this, and I'll post my results back once I've made some progress.
Truly appreciate the feedback!
No problem
Hahaha I didn't realize how long that.post actually got lol.
Sometimes I ramble and go on tangents so if I confused ya at any point don't hesitate to ask me to clarify
If you get titanium then you should probably pass on my backup pro, it'd be redundant as titanium can backup user data like texts and progress in games etc. just setup a regular backup schedule in TiBu and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for pointing that out! My concern was to have solid/secure backups of everything important along with the wife's contacts, messages, etc, etc, etc, so if I screw up the I can retrieve everything she uses daily/regularly.
Will do some more research on the apps once I get the root and nandroid bu secure.
Thanks again!

ash: since it appears your familiar with Root Explorer, I'm wondering if the app allows me to use it on other phones I own without having to pay for it again? I sent an inquirey to speedsoftware.co.uk, and their reply didn't really answer my question.
With TiBU Pro, they mail you a "key" and once the free version is installed on another phone, placing the .txt key file in the correct folder allows another phone to have the premium version.
At least that's my understanding.........

As long as the market on both phones is linked to the same account. You should be good. Just like buying a new phone. All your paid apps are still there to download again.

Rooted!
Wanted to follow up and let everyone know that I got the wife's X2 rooted following Moon Shadow's excellent Tutorials; and it worked perfectly! After rooting, I updated SU and Busybox through the market. After installing/launching the bootstrap apk, was able to do a complete nandroid following the BU/Restore Tutorial. Had one hiccup that was self-induced while attempting to start the system recovery, but removing the battery and rebooting allowed my second attemp to work flawlessly.
A big THANKS for everyone's help and support. Have to say TiBU and Root Explorer are definitely recommended apps. Have removed/froze most of the bloat listed here at the forum and have been backing up along the way. Phone is working fine.
Now, to continue my research on considering a custom ROM like Eclipse......
Thanks again!

Congrats
Let the fun begin!
Don't get left in the dark flash eclipse lol
Have fun in ur research. Reading and learning is one of the best parts doing this stuff..you will feel bit overwhelmed at first until you realize how "simple" things can be.
One bit of.knowledge for ya ---i... HIGHLY recommend that you use Bloat /CIQ freezer from.market for freezing any apps https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bloatfreezer.free
trust me on this. It will freeze apps better than TI does. I have read before and noticed first hand((I only used TI twice)) that some apps still run when frozen with TI. Those same apps when frozen with bloat freezer are like solid ice cubes floating in liquid nitrogen. They WILL NOT run until defrosted.
And if I want to remove any apps I just use root explorer to move the apk to my external sd card if I want a backup or I just straight delete it if I don't want it at all.
Have fun!

Appreciate the info on bloatfreezer! Even though I've got TuBU Pro, I realize after a few uses that I'm more comfortable with root explorer! And I have noticed a couple of apps that are frozen but still appear in the apps listing.
I'll definitely consider bloatfreezer once I've determined if it can coexist (for my use) with TiBU or should I uninstall TiBU first.
Thanks!

migrating from root 1.4.0 to 1.41 rooted

I had some free time so I thought I would upgrade my nook. I had read some issues with sideloading 1.4.1 and using adb so I stayed on 1.4.0 until today. I also wanted a freshstart but more of a migration. To follow what I did today you will need the following:
titantium backup installed on your 1.4.0 (purchase the app)
micro sdcard installed to hold your backup apps
an empty 2 gig or greater micros sd card to root and install gapps
root explorer installed on your 1.4.0 ( you can choose to install this after rooting if you wish)
sqlite3 installed on 1.4.0 (you can choose to install this after rooting if you wish)
reasons why I updated and was happy after the fact.
1. heard better battery management.
2. 5% processor boost. (quadrant standard of 1786 before 1896 after)
3. had lots of crap and residue
reasons not to go to 1.4.1 and stay on 1.4.0
(I will fill this in if they come up)
Please read through all steps first. if you do not understand everything and feel confident then take the blue pill and go back to what you were doing before reading this post.
step 1: backup up applications.
using titantiumbackup, back up all apps you wish to keep and update backups of apps already backed up! do not backup and restore everthing and especially not system apps. don't forget to look for titanuim backup icons (their names are all green) and select "Wi-Fi access points"
remove sdcard of your backups and data from nook and power down the nook.
step 2 factory reset of 1.4.0
make sure your nook is charged to 20% or better.
while nook is powered down, hold both volume up and down buttons at the same time and keep them held as you you hold down the power button down also for 8 seconds. you will see the screen go black and the nook powers down at the 8 second mark. repeat this process 8 times then do a standard power up and allow image to reset fully and reboot.
or you can do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420408
step3 register with barnes and noble to receive update ota.
this could take some time to receive the update so what I did was use my pc and go to barnes and noble and log in.
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Software-Updates-NOOK-Tablet/379003187/
there I copied the 1.4.1 update file to my pc. do not unzip the file. Now, without an sdcard in the nook, I plugged my nook into a pc and without changing the file name I copied the "nooktablet_1_4_1_update.zip" to the root of the nook. after the file is copied disconnect nook from pc and let it go to standbye mode. this is when it applys the update. takes a minute or two for process to start automagically. you should now be updated to 1.4.1
step 4 rooting and installing google apps.
I followed instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413734
all they are basically asking you to do is download 2 files.
1 file is the image creator you will use with 2gb empty sdcard. the other file "Gapps_and_root.zip" you copy to the created image root of the 2gsdcard for installing root and google apps. so place card in nook tablet, boot it. it boots into cwm and apply zip file from sdcard called "Gapps_and_root.zip" use the volume up and volume down to go through the menus. use the "n" button to select. and use the power button to go back in the menu while using cwm.
step 5 your device is now rooted and on 1.4.1 and we will begin restoring apps.
press the n button once and select search. seach on "market" and launch the market app. login to the market and download both titanium backup and licensed titatinum backup app. if you did not purchase "root explorer" do that now. if you did not backup sqlite3 with titanium, do that now. Use titanium backup to restore your apps, wifi settings etc and root explorer and sqlite3.
step 6 enabling sideloading of apps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473973
step 7 kill ota updates.
do a search on this.
Apps I like on my rooted nook
zdbox
adfree
dropbox
myappsharer
remote rdp enterprise
quadrant standard
home catcher
button savior (gotta have this one)
go launcher
fakegps
es file explorer
home switcher froyo (go back to barnes and noble desktop)
quick settings
slingplayer
amazon app store (extra free apps for the kids)
xbmc remote.
Do u have the right link? Isn't that Indirect's?
I am so you posted this cuz this pc is my dad's, and I wanted to root with just a SD card. Your instruction will help, but those 2 files; are you talking about Indirect's link? Also the Gapps file, I downloaded two zip at Mediafire, one is just zip, the other is zip.md5. Which do I use? I am still at 1.40, nonroot, and I was waiting until I got hit with the update, and someone was out of town, then I read about the SD method and thought how sweet. Now I think I understand what I have to do. If I do it before I get hit, I have to do a factory reset as well? I do have a whole lot of third party stuff on the tablet.

nope. if you don't know what .md5 file is....as the song goes for you..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68ugkg9RePc
just kidding here to help .md5 google it.
you missed one of the files which has the winimage application and the .img file which you use winiamge to write the .img file to the sdcard. the reason this is required is because you have to addon special attributes to the first partion which is difficult for most users manually with applications like gparted(linux distro) so somebody very helpful made it easy for you.
horribly humilated.
Better battery management? Can anyone confirm this? Not that I don't trust you, OP, just wondering if it's a significant enough change for me to decide to update to 1.4.1.
