[Q] Emulators and connecting a controller - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

So I was able to root my tablet with no issues and I was just wondering if I can install an emulator and possibly a controller to use with it. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

People are running emulators with great success. I've always been partial to the Tiger line of emulators, but experiment with a few.
As to a controller, there's no Bluetooth (yet) so you'd need a hardwired controller to plug into the NT.

Has anyone used the mini usb for game controller yet?
Geez... I am a bit ignorant on this subject.
Am I to understand that I might be able to connect something like a PS3 controller to the NT via the min usb? Does anyone know if many/any emulators support such a setup?
Has anyone tried this with the Nook yet?
Thanks!

If the emulator supports HID (which is most likely) they will work. Game controllers are just HID devices (like keyboards, mice, tablets)

[Request] PS3 Controller For Motorola Atrix?

I figured with the Webtop-over-HDMI hack now up and running, why not try to get a console controller, other than the WiiRemote, working to play games on Android. Full screen PS emulator with a side of PS3 controller would be nice via Webtop.
As I've been reading, I keep hearing that that Android doesn't have a kernel to support BT pairing.
What do you guys think?
As far as pairing, it is possible. There is an app called BlueputDroid that is in early beta stages, but it works. It works as a touchpad/keyboard for the PS3.
I have read the same thing in regards to the bt stack not being compatible but I don't believe it. It would be great to control my ps3 dvd playback from my phone.

I think the original poster wanted the opposite of what you guys are replying about... he wants to use his bluetooth PS3 controller as a gaming controller to control games running on his Atrix.
Don't know if what you guys want is possible but I would think that would be a lot easier through a network interface than bluetooth... have you explored the DLNA tools? You should in theory be able to control the PS3 through DLNA commands.
Sorry for the threadjack.

This is correct. I work a desk job and emulators on my phone are what keep me from losing my mind. A PS3 controller is a preference, but a controller that works will suffice.

The WII remote works as seen in a couple videos. Could grab one of those, and you'd be good to go.
off topic, kinda, but would a 360 remote ever work with the Atrix?

Bluetooth controller have posibilities
I would certainly be interested in this as well!
This is what I got...its the retro controller for wii but it doesnt need to connect to a wiimote, and it works with the wiimote android app
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Retro-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B001ULJGDU
good luck finding one though, I had to import mine for like 40 bucks from codemasters, but that was a while ago.

The problem is not the kernel or BT stack.
Someone has to decrypt what the codes are that are sent on button press into an input method. (See WiiMote Controller apk for an example). On top of that, the app requires the ability to pull the pairing code from the ps3 controller and pair it using the existing BT stack.
But no one has created such an app at this time.
Once full-blown webtop linux (or at least repo access), the desktop pairing app can be used while in webtop mode (if such an app exists).

Just bumping this because I could have sworn that I saw a project to get the PS3 remote working on the Atrix. Am I just hoping and wishing or was there a project going on?
(yes, I've tried searching to no avail)
I would love to help and fulfill attempt to get the ps3 controller working with the atrix but have a few problems...
Never played a ps3 except in store demo lol which also leads to me not having a controller to even test. With that said, I need some info about the ps3 and the controller. Use bluetooth for connectivity? What is ps3 based off of? Linux......etc?
If based off linux or similar then I could give out a go. If not, then I can't help. Lastly, can someone link me to a ps3 os dump (or whatever it's called).

I've never delved much into the PS3 Homebrew and emulation scene mainly because it's security was clamped down on so hard. But with the recent cracks, I imagine their online communities are probably buzzing.
Wish I had some resources to share. I'd really LOVE to get a PS3 controller working with the Atrix!!!
Don't know how much it helps, but with the recent Ubuntu hack, I figure I'd share that QJoyPad may work. A simple Google search should find it.
I never had trouble pairing PS3 controllers with it. It even allowed me to toggle sensitivities of all of the axis, including L2/R2. Every button worked, even L3/R3.

This is an ancient thread, I know, but I've had this question for a while. I don't yet have an HDTV, so I cannot test this, but aside from Hero_Lief's suggestion above, I also ran into a program called QtSixA (http://http://qtsixa.sourceforge.net/) for Ubuntu, which is supposed to be able to pair a PS3 wireless remote with Ubuntu through Bluetooth 2.0 or higher. Has anyone tried this yet? If not, someone wanna give it a go? Whenever I get an HDTV, I'd really like to use my Atrix for some bigscreen emulation, but I won't be enticed without a proper controller. Thanks!
Has anyone given a thought about pulling the drivers or what ever from a honeycomb build? I've read somewhere that you can connect a ps3 controller to a xoom.

[Q] Which game pad is recommended?

Which game controller do you recommend? I'm mainly looking to use it on my tab for emulators and whatever android games are compatible with a controller.
I was looking at a sixaxis just because it looks like it can connect wirelessly with the app but I'd be willing to buy a USB connector and flash a kernel to make a controller compatible. Also I don't know if the dual shock 3 controller works with the sixaxis app. (I'm not sure if that's an entirely different thing)
I guess I'm mainly wondering which controller is most compatible, meaning full joy stick control and things like that.
Thanks if you can help me out!
I'm currently using my PS3 controller with the new Sixaxis App from the store. All you need is Root access and to pair your PS3 controller with a PC to tell it what your tablets Bluetooth MAC address is and it should work. I've been using it ever since with all my emulators and it works like it's supposed to.
There is also an app from the same dev to test if the controller works with your device but if its a GT 10.1 and a regular PS3 controller there shouldn't be an issue.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
If not I'm probably going to grab a sixaxis but I want to be sure I'm getting the best since I'm not tied down to a controller for a console I already own.
Thanks
There is already another Q & A thread started by me from a while ago where some people listed a few alternatives. Just search the Q & A forum or check the first few pages and you will find the thread. Since I already own a PS3 and the other controllers aren't that available in my country it was an easy choice for me. Hope that helps.

gaming with controller

has anyone who has a dock been able to connect their dual shock 3 controller to TFP? I thought it was plug and play.
Just watched a video of someone doing exactly that. I believe its wireless via bluetooth also, but that may happen in ICS. Don't remember.

I *think* it will be PnP in ICS. Till then, you can purchase SIXAXIS app in the market, it's less then $2.00
I went out and bought a PS3 dual shock controller just to do this then found out that it only works if you use a usb cable, bluetooth is not compatible.
I found that to be lame.

You should check the Android Market, I'm pretty sure you'll find some applications letting you play with bluetooth.
Only certain game actually support a joystick. I think there is an app you have to install that works like a driver for it, but I have not tried it myself. However, it was said a WIRED PS3 or Xbox360 controller would work.
Bluetooth is supported too, but there are very few joysticks that match this. There is a Logitech PC controller and a Gamestop Tablet Gamepad that are supposed to work via bluetooth. Not sure on the requirements. I plan on getting the Logitech one to try this out; however, not sure when I will get around to it.
Here is a video of it in action:

Gamestop appears to sell/support a wireless controller.

Actually no, any app on the android market that would let you use the PS3 controller via bluetooth does not work on the prime unless you root it.
I had the gamestop controller and it is a total POS. It works with some games but they are not controls you can use to actually play the games just using that controller.. GTAIII for example.. You can only control your movement, you cant attack or jump or anything else.
The only game it works for is shadowgun. It doesnt works for any emulators, fpse, snes, sega or n64.
The Sixaxis app will let you connect a PS3 controller to your tablet, but you have to be rooted for it to work.

I imagine the emulator apps would need support for the controller programmed into the app itself, the tablet just recognizing the controller is there wouldn't be enough. each app will have to know what part of the screen to associate each controller button with. with PnP supported in ICS hopefully many more games & emulators will support controllers.
i got it to work. It is plug and play. You just have to go into controls and configure buttons. awesome for gaming.

The way the gamestop controller works, its not registered as a controller at all. It replaces your input method so basically its registered as a wireless keyboard that you cant setup.
My PS3 controller worked just fine being plugged into dock. I love shadowgun on it now. It is a hard game to play without controller.

Through bluetooth on the Droid and Nexus phones I've used it on. I assume it will work the same way on the Prime once we have superuser.

[Q] Does Splashtop THD support controllers?

So finished setting up Splashtop and I'm loving it. I have horrible internet speeds but it still works pretty well. I only wish I could find a way to control my PC games using my PS3 controller that is connected to my tablet. I have not tried a USB controller or my 360 adapter so that may work. If anyone knows how to get this to work it would be greatly appreciated.
The program is just a simple remote feature and runs on just basic commands and doesn't recognize game pads. There would have to be another layer to the commands to a virtual game pad installed on the pc that could relay the commands.
It does support controllers, just connect it through USB and make sure you are in gaming mode (3 finger tab).
I've been playing skyrim that way using a ps3 controller

I've been wanting this specific answer more than anything. This makes me so happy to hear.
I suspect that it's using the native gamepad element in ICS, which makes me hopeful that someone using a PS3 controller & the Sixaxis app with the "Enable Gamepad" setting checked would work too. Good God this makes me excited..

how did you get it to work. I have been messing around with this for days and can't get anything but the D pad and Select button to pick up.
Despite the thread being old I wanted to let everybody know that I've had some success with this, maybe it'll help somebody else in the future. I recently tried using my DS3 with Splashtop GamePad THD via Bluetooth (on a Nexus 7, but it shouldn't matter) and much to my surprise, it works.
I used Sixaxis Controller to pair my DS3 via BT and I enabled the option to have it appear as a regular gamepad. I opened up Splashtop THD, connected and it worked! What I found though, was that it actually depends on the profile you choose. I couldn't play Portal 2 with the profile because for some reason it didn't have enough controller buttons mapped. I switched to Skyrim, reconfigured the key bindings in Portal 2 and it worked well. I find that it's very badly designed, rather than having to use some specific profile, they should just have a way to configure the controller for each profile. Maybe there is a way and I haven't found it.
In any case, the DS3 works via BT, but mind that you're not going to get analog movement control on your PC, since moving the left stick just sends WSAD.

[Q] Bluetooth connect with PS3 Controller

I am not finding any possible way to connect a PS3 controller with my Rezound due to the bluetooth packet build of the stock ICS. I just recently rooted. I see everywhere other devices that are able to pair with the controller. Any thoughts or evidence that this will work on the Rezound with custom roms? Using Amon ra recovery. Before I flash any roms, this is a big feature that I am looking for as I do a lot of gaming. Thanks for any direction.
I just saw a thread about this last week I think. Something about an app called sixaxis or something like that.
Pretty sure if you search "controller" in this forum you'll find it.

try to download sixaxis controller app and sixaxis compatibility and when u do that download an emulator of ur choice like N64 for droid or psx emulator , i believe there's also a tutorial video on youtube on how to pair ur android with ur sixaxis controller
here's what you need
PS3 sixaxis controller
supplied usb cable of ps3 controller
laptop or pc runs on windows xp or 7
sixaxis compatibility app
sixaxis controller app
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
The Sixaxis app will not work with the Rezound. The Rezound does not support otg as it does not have usb host control support. It will not recognize any usb device. I read it's mainly due to Sense. Has to be a custom rom I guess that the builder enabled this option. Possibility of AOSP roms might work, not sure.
