I'm sure that HTC is working on ICS/Sense 4.0 for us, but between them and Verizon doing what they have to do, I'm sure it will be at least a month or two before we see an update.

HTC stated ~6 weeks from release of the Nexus. Don't expect anything before February.

Hmm
I have to admit, i've been browsing over at the Nexus forum with a little jealousy.
I know I know, once we get s-off we are going to be sitting pretty. Then of course waiting for ICS also.
I don't plan on exchanging my phone, but things sure are tempting.

The rezound is a better phone hardware wise. We will get s-off and they will be pissed they didnt get a rezound
Anyone with any doubts just needs to go look at the GN screen. Teeth and eye-whites look yellow! You can also still see pixels on the GN.
Also, go play with the GN camera and notice how the angle of view is narrower, it doesn't focus on objects as close as the rezound can, and it has some pretty obvious distortion. Turn off image preview on Rezound and the shutter lags are so close its hard to tell which is faster.
For the screen alone, I will happily wait forever for S-OFF and ICS or whatever.
This is not even going into the build quality. The store demo I played with last night was falling apart already (battery cover wouldn't stay on and the whole back felt creaky) and it's only been sitting there for a few hours. The Rezound, which had been sitting there for weeks, still looks to be in pretty good shape.
Also, my Rezound seemed to be pulling in better signal for the few minutes I was playing with them next to each other.
I am very happy with my Rezound, although I would like to be able to test drive the Galaxy Nexus with out a barrel of restocking/activation fees.
Oh yaaaay the Galaxy Nexus is finally on sale...Oh wait, I have an HTC Rezound and this is the HTC Rezound forum....I should be posting about purchasing my Rezound in the Galaxy Nexus forum...my bad.

Really? I was pessimistically guessing the last possible minute in "the first half of 2012" -- do you have a link for that?
My guess is April '12 we'll see ICS
HTC did say the rezound would get ICS. For that 6 weeks things, HTC may have it done by then, however, Verizon may be the cause for the delay in its release.
Does anyone know if it will get Sense 4.0 with that update. If they show Sense 4.0 off at CES, they might make the timeline of six weeks. If they don't, I don't mind waiting for both Sense 4.0 and ICS.

dood, phone has been discontinued by tmo, it's not got much life in it. I just happens to be one of the 2 soon to be 3 available hspa+ 42mbps devices! once the s drops you can expect more price drops on the Amaze.
The phone may be going EOL but it's probably their best phone and is still comparable to the new One S. Also those ads are completely one sided, note that they are using an iPhone for Sprint which is only a 3G phone. I used to be on Sprint before switching to T-Mobile and their 4G service was decently quick... if you could get it.

My friend up here has an EVO3D and never switches 4G ON. I asked him why and he said "by the time it even connects or finds 4G signal, the web pages could already have been loaded on 3G"
Don't know how accurate that is but Idk why it would take so long to connect.

That would only be the case if you switch it on to check one page then shut it back off again. It does take about 30 seconds or so to connect to 4g, much like it does to connect to WiFi. Personally that sounds like a dumb excuse to not use 4g. We don't have 4g here but if we did, I'd likely leave it on all the time since my phone is near a charger all day anyways.

I am very interested in it, Asus is one of my favorite companys specially for gaming, i love their ROG series. i have the Asus G74 laptop right now and plan on getting the Asus Tytan.
Note that its never good to get any phone when its just released. i wait a few months for all the problems (if it has any) to be fixed and development to start and prices to drop. while the samsung galaxy ii already been out for quite a while.
according to this site it wont be too much more than the one s: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Asus...mer-Pad-300-Get-Priced-in-Europe-264743.shtml
only $15 more for just the phone. i will wait till the price is around $400 on ebay then ill buy it in a heartbeat
edit: look at their website now. they updated the information about it. http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone/ you can get 102 hours of battery from padfone (the phone), the station (tablet), and the station dock (keyboard). they all use the hardware of the padfone (cpu/gpu/ram/camera), but they all have their own battery. also its all one data package (from the phone). this is going to get huge IMO.
the camera should be better than the amaze as well, has the same aperture, but a better lense made my asus.
Development has pretty much come to a stop. There is no AOSP, sense 4.0 still isnt flawless and other phones are getting further and further ahead.
Jelly Bean and iOS6 are coming out and maybe i should get a new phone.
I have always been a huge android fan despite having a macbook and ipad and I dont think i should get an iphone, right?
Should I get a gnex? Galaxy SIII? What do you guys think?

Do you think google is gonna release a new nexus soon? Should I wait?
I'd like to think they will release one end of this year or early next year... I'll definitely be buying the next one even if it is isn't flagship material.
Is the rezound pretty much dead? I've tried everything possible and I just cant get a smooth, fast feeling. Any ROM suggestions?
I'm going to wait and see what this "Eris" I've heard so much about does with the Rezound before deciding whether to stay aboard or jump ship. If he does something great and the source happens to come out soon enough, I'm definitely staying. If something happens and the source doesn't come out or his progress hits a huge snag where he quits, I'm probably going to pack my bags and look into going back to Sprint.
Their service really does suck in my area, but at least their price was a lot better. If I do jump ship and get an Evo 4G LTE, I would be interested in it if only to run FreshROM again, just like on my OG Evo. Plus, I sort of miss the small things about the Evo family, like CWM, FreshROM, etc. I know Sprint is finally switching to LTE, and if I had to go back, I would be willing to tough it out with bad signal just a while longer, since it looks like Sprint is actually serious about LTE over WiMAX this time.

Do you think the nex is better than the rezound? Yeah its awesome that theyre getting jellybean really soon, but i really like sense and there hardware is pretty much the same
i think any high end android phone is better than the iphone, right?
I've really been considering moving to the nexus since I'm not eligible for my upgrade yet and I can get a used one pretty cheap but I'm still undecided.
The rezound was my first HTC phone and I really love how well built it is compared to Samsung phones but I've had so many problems with it. Plus, with Verizon taking so long to push out updates and practically killing development, it makes the nexus slightly more enticing.
What do you guys think? Should I stick it out with this phone a little bit longer and just hope that the development gets a little better again soon or is it best to just move on now?
Can we at least wait until the end of the month before everyone flips their stuff? We're supposed to get ICS officially this month, and shortly after that HTC should release the ICS kernel source on the HTCDev website. All we need is our fantastic developers to get the RIL working and we'll hopefully be swimming in CM#/AOKP by the end of the year.

Well, it started with the many replacements of the tbolt, then HTC's hard stance against updating their tablets kinda pushed me over the edge, then they updated the flyer/view to broken software and they wont even fix it. Now the Rezound is having touchscreen issues. So I'm just tired of dealing with the problems and the lack of OEM support after purchase. I appreciate the Dev community for the zound, but sammy seems to be stronger in that dept. So I think I am going to give them a shot. I won't touch Moto with a ten foot pole. It may be a bad move, but I'm willing to take that risk after all the issues I have had recently with HTC. So for me, from here on out, it's going to be Nexus, or Samsung.
Samsung is worse.
I love my Rez and I still think of it as probably one of the, if not the most undervalued android phone released to date, but I don't see myself going for yet another carrier exclusive device after this. Of course, reviews might be so great for the DNA that I could change my mind but so far I am not that impressed.
Having said that however, the lack of a LTE capable Nexus 4 kinda limits the options for those looking to upgrade atm and I really cant see myself with a Galaxy S device. Wish Sony would be given a chance at penetrating the US market, they seem to strike a fair balance between corporate dev support, hardware and software quality.
I'll be getting this. The hardware and build quality will be top notch, it can be unlocked through HTCs dev website and be able to load cm. It was between this and the note but son, I am dissapoint at it having the older gen exynos and 720p screen on a 5.5 inch screen.
no, my next phone will be honor 2 or note 2
battery is important factor to me now

samsungs radios and signal are 10x worse.
in my house, my gs3 gets about 6kbps download on 3g.
my rezound, when its not pulling 4g in my house (which the nexus and GS3 CAN'T), pulls atleast half a meg to a meg per second. doing anything on the gs3 on 3g is terrible, and ridiculously slow. fb app won't even load. rezound loads it no problem. hell, i even tethered 3 tablets to my rezound last night and while we were all browsing at the same time, ti was STILl faster than my gs3
i don't think i'd buy antoher samsung phone ever again, and i really want the DNA...dunno if i wanna fork out 600 bones for it tohugh

The screen is what keeps me from upgrading.
What more can be done that already hasn't been done? It's not dead just hit a stopping point for what can be done. The rezound has a vast library of great roms to run. We all have seen this with countless phones in the past Luke the dinc, original droid and so on. It's not the phone is useless just people likes to have the latest and greatest that's out there. I came from the bolt and to compare the development of the bolt to the rezound and it blows the bolt away.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I see it slowing down, but not dying. All of Android development is dying off until the release of KLP though.
I'm thinking you're going to see this more and more as devs are more likely to want the newest phones. The Eris had good development for the full two years I had it but, from what I could tell, it was pretty easy to get stuff running on it. New phones seem to be a little more difficult and eventually, development hits a wall. I'm hoping things pick up again in May after KLP is released.
Sometimes you have to be smarter than your smartphone.
It's now called the RIPzound. J/k! Not dead, just slower which is normal.
Still here I have the one pre ordered though, but I'll be keeping my Rezound as a wifi only device. Or maybe my music only always in the car device

I'll still be around for a good while, though I've been inactive on the Rezound portion of XDA. I'll probably learn some necromancy and do themes if things do get too slow. It's been relatively good development, a few hiccups but fared well all in all imho. I expect it to rock some KLP someday, too good a device not to.

That's how I'm using mine, wifi and music. I just wish the Sense development would pick back up, I kinda want to see Sense 5 ported.
I still use mine... I was thinking about getting a note 3 instead of a GS4 but I haven't looked for an leaked info yet. May just buy an S3 or something in the mean time. I'm so bored with this phone D; I've had it longer than by other smartphone though. I usually buy something new every few months.
I'll be here for a while as well. The only way I would leave is if I came up on some good money to upgrade and there was something worth upgrading to. I've stated this before, and I truly feel this device hasn't seen its full potential. There's no doubt in my mind this thing could run jb with sense 5 without issues.

Yea I mean other phones with worse specs are running jelly bean and blazing through it. HTC just doesn't care about their customers lol.
For those of us who have to wait for our new contract discount, the Rezound will continue to live on with a great appreciation for our devs, past and present.

I just love my Rezound too much to switch to another device.
I've had it since release day; still immaculate. Although, I've been running CounterShrike since December...maybe I should hop onto the JB bandwagon.

When is your contract up if you have one? I'd wait until KLP comes out and see what devices are running in q4 this year

Those of you who have experienced trying NOT to accept the OTA. Will I be able to hold off long enough to facepalm it?
I know moonshine is coming, but there is no telling when it will be and I would rather use existing methods if possible.
You are stuck with 2.04 or 2.06 these the locked updates..basically they come updated 99% of the time so it will come with 2.06

Okay well that sucks. BUT if it's not 2.04 or 2.06 will I be able to defer it.
Then you will be able to flash a Rom of your choice if its not on any of those...very unlikely...you won't need to defer.

re
get the s4..
im pissed that my dna is locked and i cannot root.
the Samsung community is larger and they are easy to root and mod.
Used to be the opposite as htc had the bigger community of modders years ago.
This is my main reason to jump ship.
the Note 3 should be out in the coming months too...
If the Note 3 ends up having a quality screen / rez then i will jump on that in a heart beat.
I have to disagree. I've played with the Samsung phones and I'm a devout DNA keeper. Hardware to me is just more elegant... But It's a matter of personal preference. For others the Samsung is the way to go. Test them both before you make your choice. I've never been one to base decisions on modding alone.
The unlock for the 2.x version is bound to be out soon, then you can mod all you want. If you're lucky enough to get a 1.x off the bat, then you can start immediately.
And to answer your question, you can defer the update, but it will try to trick you into thinking you have to have it. Also, watch the CSRs at Verizon. They will try to automatically Do the update when setting up the phone... Don't let them!
For the record, I am bone stock and still waiting on the 2.x unlock and would never switch to a Samsung horn... Just my 2ยข

Beaups said just recently to go ahead and take the 2.06 update because when he releases the new S-off method it will be for 2.06.

If he manages to get a 1.15 phone don't update of course but if its 2.04 I still would not update *just in case*. Rule of thumb (that most people just can't follow): *If you want root, unlock, or anything in between, DO NOT UPDATE EVER UNTIL YOU ARE S-OFF*

Obviously if he is on 1.15 he wont want to but I doubt he will be.

That specifically states to go to 2.06. I know you're giving sound advice but when the developer that is bringing s-off back to the device says to update I will be listening to him on that.

naw don't follow bball.
just a little grumpy that my DNA gets 30% lower benchmark scores than most. and the whole waiting for root thing has my panties in a bundle.
I don't like the plasticy s4 back but after testing it out. I was blown away by its instant response.
plus my DNA has issues. if I'm in a bad area it will refuse to return to 3g or 4g when its getting awesome reception. a quick toggle of airplane mode fixes it instantly though.
that being said overall the DNA has been a good phone despite the few issues I'm having with it.
plus I'm a little ocd when it comes to phones, ie see Sig...

Haha your list of phones is very similar to mine. I had the BB Curve, Storm, Droid X, Thunderbolt, Razr Maxx, GNexus, and now my DNA. The DNA is by far my favorite of the mix though. If it had the Maxx's battery I would never look at another phone (for a good 2 years at least lol). I think once we get S-off on the DNA it will prove to be a very solid phone and one that is very worth while.

Thanks for trolling.
Yes benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt. But when you get a drastic difference in a benchmark... Then it can be a sign of an issue.
I would expect more of a classy response from a 500+ count poster.
