Advice Please- Galaxy S2 as in car entertainment OR cheap android tablets - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I want to setup an in car entertainment system for the rear pessengers of my car for a very long drive thats coming up. Previous I used an old laptop strung between the driver and front passenger seat which provided movies etc. I would also like to display navigation info on the rear screen.
So the choices I have- get a small HDMI screen in the back- connected the S2 to it and that give me everything. Nav from the S2 and movies if required.
The other option is to have 2 seperate 'cheap' android tablets in the back (mounted via a headrest mount) with movies on both- but the cheap tablets don't have gps built in. So can I via wifi send the gps data from my S2 to both tablets a the same time- so I can load NavFree. Also is it possible to stream from the S2 to 2 tablets at the same time. What I mean is use the S2 as a media server with the movies on it's micro SD card- and stream via WIFI to both tablets. That way I can get really cheap android tablets.
The last option is get android tablets with built in GPS- prices are dropping for the cheap 'non brand' tablets- GBP130 should be enough for a 7 inch tablet with GPS built in.
Let me know what you think.

Connecting Note to Car Stereo

I currently have an IPhone 4s and have a car windshield mount (which the note will fit in), but I have a separate cable (iphone cable) that connects to the head unit which charges and of course allows me to control the ipod from the head unit. (shows song titles and such).
What is the best way to connect to the head unit? Is there a head unit that has android integration?
BTW...my current head unit is a Pioneer AVIC N4.
TIA
Does the head unit have an aux input jack or Bluetooth? If not (and I don't think it does) you'll need to swap head units

I can get the Bluetooth Module for it but that's only for calls. It does have USB Mass Storage capability though.
I assume that will work (or that's what I need)??
Are there any head units out there that are more Android friendly?
Not really. The USB port may not read the device and only let you use a flash drive. I bought a normal unit with auxiliary front and plug my phone and satellite into that. Gotta get the car dock if you want to charge while driving but I never run low batt and I drive like 5-8 hours a day.
usb mass storage should work with all android phones. it would read it just like the usb flash drives. ive had tried this with an htc inspire on a kenwood stereo. all function controls with file discriptions works.

Sounds like this might work then.
As a side note...anyone know what the best head unit for android would be?
majority of after market stereos now are intended for the use of ipods but will work for all standard usb drives. if you are unsure, you can always test the demos at your local audio shop.
edit:
for your pioneer avic n4 you need this add-on for usb connection. pioneer cd-ub100
I am looking for a car dock but one that dose not have that stick thing at the end because I need to take it off each day and I don't know if you could do that with the one that's out now
Still looking for a good head unit. I currently have the Pioneer AVIC N4, but to add either bluetooth or USB, it will cost me about a hundred bucks. (Bluetooth is voice only).
I saw the Parrot Asteroid online, but it seems a bit steep (and a bit young...needs some updated firmware I think)

Any other options out there that you think would be a good fit?? I assume since my Note is nice and big now, that Navigation isn't necessary in the head unit.
I have a pioneer that I use the USB with a 32gb thumb drive just loaded up with music. The phone is also bluetoothed to the head unit for phone calls. I am going to work on using the samsung car dock with a usb host cable and an external hard drive to play media in the car. Only problem I have yet to figure out is how to power it while still using the usb host cable. If I can't find a way I am going to try out a seagate satellite hard drive my buddy has sitting around. Could be a good option, Ive just heard the seagate app kinds sucks

[Q] Allshare issue

I can get my samsung 58inch plasma to connect to my gs3, but how do you go about playing a game on your gs3 and see it on the tv. Or do you have to have the dongle to do that
If you're looking to pair up a brand new GS III with a bigger screen, but you're not yet part of the Smart TV generation, then this little accessory could get you out of a fix. It's palm-sized with a single blue LED light indicating a connection, but honestly you don't ever need to look at it: it doesn't need line-of-sight to your handset because it uses a wireless protocol called WiFi Display, which means you can happily leave it dangling out of the way behind your TV. The unit has two cables: one for power and the other for the HDMI connection to your TV, which can transmit up to 1080p video and audio. As you'll see in the hands-on video after the break, it works for direct mirroring, so you can watch movies, play games or reel off holiday slideshows. But it also has a more enterprise-focused feature, in the form of a slideshow function in cahoots with the Polaris Office app, which means you can use your GS III as a controller for a presentation. It's a simple idea, but it all seemed to work smoothly and we can imagine it coming in pretty handy.

Well the allshare dongle is handy when it works, untill now I tried it with some rooted rom's but was not able to get it up and running.
From the forum posts I read that you probably need a stock rom like this to get the allshare up and running with the dongle.
But if anybody knows a better solution then a stock rom I'm willing to try!
regards,
TreMain
i will be buying the wireless dongle tomorrow.....im on MiUi i hope it works.
i want to surf and game on my super big new TV as well. so the 89 for the dongle will be worth it since it will probably work on my next phone as well.

Ultimate smart car aftermarket radio..appradio? nexus7? other??

I'm talking about the 90% of the world who doesn't have a fancy new car with built-in self-aware factory gizmos that mostly sucks anyway.
Those of us with older cars with 'traditional' 1 DIN (think traditional car stereo size) or 2 DIN (think the size of a nexus 7 turned sideways) panels and a pretty 'dumb' car.
Since this is an android forum and the people here probably believe this is the best UI going (particularly with custom ROMs) for car integration, I'm curious what everyone is using.
I really think the appradio 2 is a great option. Built in GPS antenna, car microphone and Pioneer's proven audio capabilities and a fantastic little app like ARliberator to push your Android screen to the head unit makes this a virtual no-brainer.
Its a drop-in $100 install at probably any best buy or car installation shop in the country (and easy to install yourself) as opposed to all the crazy stuff you have to buy to get a N7 to function as a head unit.
You can literally turn any old vehicle into a virtual state of the art car with the majority of the features in brand new cars that you'll pay a couple thousand for (built in GPS, car phone, HD radio, etc.) but you get the android UI for free! don't like something? just download a new app and GO.
So..any suggestions for a category killer here other than the appradio? It can even hook into your car rearview camera (if you choose to install one)
Is there a compelling argument for the N7 over the appradio?
Is there anything else out there that comes remotely close in functionality without having to buy an i(crap)phone?

Mini MX Review - very cheap media player

I got a new media player called Mini MX. This device will be interested for many people because the price is around $40,
so in other words it is really cheap media player.
Packaging
Except the device you will also get user manual, remote control, power adapter and HDMI cable.
Design and build
For me it is not too much important because 90% of all media player the design is more or less the same.
Anyway the case is made of plastic in black color, the case is also very thin. It has all ports on both sides like HDMI, USB 2.0, RJ45 and DC 5V.
Performance
For this price range which is actually around $40 it has really solid hardware, so it is based on quad core processor Amlogic S905
with maximum speed up to 2GHz. From other hardware information I can say that it has 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB memory
for storage which can also be upgraded using microSD card up to 32GB. The hardware is not maybe the strongest one but it is enough strong for every purpose like KODI.
Software
If you read everyday tech news you already know that mostly this kind of devices and other similar like smartphones from China
comes with Android 5.1. In my opinion the operating system is almost stock, it has just several installed applications like KODI,
Movie Player and Google Play Store. So you don't need to waste your time for deleting unwanted apps. It's self the operating system
is fast and fluid and during use I did not find any problems because all apps worked as they should to work including of course KODI.
For KODI I have tried several different add-ons and they all worked really nice without lags.
Connectivity
The Mini MX has all ports you'll need. It has 1 x HDMI, 1 x LAN port, 2 x USB and 1 x SPDIF. So you can connect your
media player with lan cable or by wireless, this is up to. It has also buetooth 4.0 and I have normally connected my
Bluetooth keyboard which works perfectly normal. The Wi-Fi connection is stable and it has good range for connectivity.
This media player also supports H.265 video code and thanks to that you don't need to have high speed Internet connection.
Conclusion
In my personal opinion if you are looking for cheap media player with Android OS, then you should definitely consider the Mini MX.
Because it has very low price around $40 depending on the web shop. It comes with KODI, it has a very good hardware for this price range
and it works really nice. For more information please visit this official website.
Also for more information about this cheap media player if you want.

Tab 10.1 as car head unit [A Few Questions]

Hi
I'm working a project to mount The Tab 10.1 in my car
i have a third party Bluetooth car kit in my car , and it's able to connect a one individual device ,
also i have i phone 6S as my main cell phone ,
I'm planing to use 3M double face to attach the samsung Desktop Dock (Galaxy Tab) on my dashboard ,
My questions are :
first of all , is the dock stable enough to hold the tablet on the road ? did anyone try it ?
is there any way to connect my phone to the tablet to receive music and answer calls on it ? Note that the tablet is connected to the car via Bluetooth ! but i have a portable router to connect both devices to wifi !
anybody there ?
I don't own the mount, but I think it should hold the tablet since the micro USB plug is anchoring it in place. If you have some support on the sides of the tablet to prevent it from tilting from side to side would help it from falling during hard cornering.
For phone to tablet connection, I've tried Tablet Talk, but it's android only, no iOS version. I think it's tough to do these things with iOS. Android is the way to go mostly because it's easier to root Android than to jailbreak iOS. And Tasker is only on Android.
My car didn't have bluetooth so bought a cheap Panasonic head unit with bluetooth and cramped it behind the tablet. This head unit was able to pair to my phone and tablet at the same time. I set phone to only pair for calls and tablet for media audio only. This works well with tasker automating the connections of wifi tethering.

I'm using Tab 10.1 in my car too. There is a product in Turkey as announced TTEC Easy Drive 2. It's a in-car phone holder but with very strong magnets in it. So it may help you to hold your tablet in your car.
