recently i have been having issues with my games and apps that are installed in my phone.........all of them say ether "application not installed" or the force close messege while the day before all was ok... so what can cause this issue
Have you made any changes to you phone recently, tweaked, anything...? Or did it just happen suddenly?

Hi @ivanrcks95...
After reading your post I sat & scratched my head for a while...
1. do you have any apps etc moved-out to sd...? If so, are there many & what app did you use to move them...?
2. Are you running any ram tweaks or partition managment tweaks...?
The reason I ask these questions is because I have seen this behaviour often when an "Ace" is switching back from USB data transfer mode to Internal & SD memory...
The status of your ram at this point can cause a severe lag with the mounting of the necessary partitions often returning the error messages that you describe... on occasion you will also get "Problem loading widgets" etc. If a particularly bad lag occurs then the data & partitions can become corrupted...
An easy cure to get things running again would be a complete wipe & restore from Nandroid backup (assuming that you have done one...?)... A selective nandroid restore would let you just repair the system partition, which I feel would be adequate.
Have you tried re-installing 1 or 2 apps...? if they install successfully then that tells us that the partition is now functioning but some of the data contained has become corrupt. If the apps fail to install then I think we can safely assume that the partition is corrupt...
Again the simple solution would be a nandroid restore... If you do not have this option then I would suggest the following... :
1. backup all data from your sd card where possible & reformat & partition using CWM 4 or 5 (if ya runnin CM7.2 then you "MUST" use CWM5)...(sd card partitions may be cause of issue)
2. complete a full wipe (system, cache, Dalvik), Wipe battery stats (Always do when installing a new rom so battery can correctly callibrate to new power requirments)...
3. Re-flash rom, modded kernel etc. (always check if system, data partitions need to be mounted before flash from CWM to prevent boot errors & wrong permission assignment)...
4. Re-boot phone after flash to check all is well... Then copy back to sd the backup that you made at the beginning...
You should now have a fully working phone again... Downside is that you may have to re-install ya apps etc...
Nandroid backup recovery...
======================
1. Follow step 1 of my guide above...
2. If doing a "selective" nandroid restore then wipe just the Dalvik cache then just select the needed files and restore them... If doing a "Complete" nandroid restore then do a complete wipe before restore...
3. Re-boot phone after restore to check all is well... Then copy back to sd the backup that you made at the beginning...
You should now have a fully working phone again...
!!! IMPORTANT !!!
==============
If after formatting & partitioning the sd card, CWM has trouble locating the Nandroid backup after you place it in root of sd card then do the following :
1. Open into "Root" of sd card
2. Create a folder called "clockworkmod" all lowercase letters...
3.Create within the above folder another folder called "backup" again all lowercase...
4. now place within this folder your nandroid backup...
5. unmount usb (assuming your phone is connected to pc for folder creation)...
6. now complete the nandroid recovery...(should go without a hitch unless the backup has been altered in any way (MD5 hash file check will fail if file is altered after creation)...
Hope this info is of help to you given that you did;nt really provide many details of your problem...
Stay Breezy n Be Lucky...

ok i am running my own ROM that i havent published but its a mix with cyanogen and ice cream sunday put into one( so some bits from each rom to make my own) well when i re-install apps they work but ive noticed as soon as i reboot my phone they force close again i can try to reinstall my rom and do a full wipe to solve this but all my apps are in my sd card so it could be that my sd card is a bit mest up or maybe ive mest something up with my rom

I should probably post this in the dev forum but I don't have enough posts. And I should probably search first but I'm in this panic mode of being cut off from having a phone so I'm terribly sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.
I was running CM7.0.0.RC4 and decided to upgrade to CM7.0.3 and since all the other updates have gone so extremely well I decide to do this while in my car on a drive.
So first thing I did was Nandroid backup.
Then I wiped the cache and the davlik cache because that's been my recipe for success. Not thinking I also wiped the data/system stuff. Then I installed the CM7 update from a zip file.
I didn't realize what I did until I booted the thing and came up on a screen with none of my icons on it.
So I went into the reboot recovery screen and tried to do a Nandroid recovery but when I did that I just get the HTC screen staring back at me they pops up before anything else and it never seems to go anywhere else. I had to pull the battery to reboot it.
Am I doing the backup wrong? Does the Nandroid ISO have all my settings, programs, etc on it? If it doesn't I might as well do a fresh start.
When you do a Nandroid restore it should restore your data and system partitions as well (including your apps and settings).
When you do the restore, does it give you an error?
First off thank you for the reply.
I didn't see an error so I just did another restore to check.
1 error message pops up and it says
"sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restor of /sd-ext"
When I reboot I get the same thing, it hangs on HTC screen and never goes beyond that.
It's ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.1

This is normal if you don't have an ext partition on your SD card (for apps2sd or simple2ext support).

It's certainly strange. My suggestion is this:
1) Boot into Clockworkmod
2) Wipe data/factory reset
3) Wipe cache partition
4) Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
5) Partitions menu > format system
6) Install Cyanogenmod zip from sdcard
7) Install Google Apps zip from sdcard
8) Nandroid > Advanced restore > Restore data (don't restore the other things)
9) Reboot
Good luck.
Oh that's brilliant. I'll try that.
I've done a install of the CM7 and teh google tools and it started downloading all the apps that I had stored on the SD card so the only think I think I lost was some settings and my text messages but I'll try that anyway just to see if it will work. I have all my settings just the way I want them.
So I tried that and it didn't seem to do any better. None of my text messages were saved. I had to redownload all my apps again.
Now my SD card is almost full which doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless somehow the old versions of the programs are still on the SD card in which case if they are how to I clear that space up?
The other thing is while reinstalling some of the apps failed and I cleared the notification list because it was too long to sort through them all but now I can't figure out which apps weren't installed correctly. Can I bring up that error list again?

When you make Nandroid backups, it saves everything on your SD card under the clockworkmod folder. Each backup is saved by the date (GMT) when you did the backup. On a smaller SD card (like the one the phone comes with) even a few of those backups can eat up your SD card space quickly, so you should just go in and delete the ones you don't need from that folder.
When you did the Nandroid backup and Nandroid restore, did you go into ROM Manager to get to Clockworkmod? If so, you should try doing it the proper way -- turn the phone off completely, then use volume down + power to get to Clockworkmod. In general I would avoid using ROM Manager on an S-ON device like the Aria.
Also make sure the USB cable is not plugged in. it makes clockwork act crazy.

I've been doing the restore from the Clockwordmod bootloader menu. Turns out I made a backup of ADW settings and the desktop settings so I'm right back to where I was before the install just in a more round about way.
I am using the SD card that came with it but I'm thinking I might go get a larger one now. Is there any easy way to get all my apps onto the new card? Will just coping the content work?

If your current SD card doesn't have an ext partition on it (i.e., you didn't repartition it), then you can simply copy the entire contents over from the old card to the new card. It's as simple as that.
Hello
Here is my story
I was trying to upgrade to ICS by flashing the latest stock ROM XXLPS that I got from Samfirmware.
1- on the first try I did not perform a full wipe, the ROM was a no wipe ROM so It upgraded and all my apps are kept there,. after a while I start facing errors and restarts so I fall back
2- on the second try I flashed the ROM then I did a full wipe/factory reset. It was working well until I rooted it using CF-root and started to restore my apps using TB. I noticed that the problems are coming from Apps installed on external SD, sometimes it was unmounted automatically
Anyway I did a fall back using a CWM restore, I noticed after restore that CSC and baseband are still the ICS ones ? I thought that CWM backup and restore everything??!!
I have also had the same experience once....
when we select advance restore we can find these:
1) Restore Boot (which include boot image and Kernel)
2) Restore System (complete system files)
3) Restore Data (user data like apps and user data etc..)
4) Restore Cache
5) Restore Sd-ext (if we set a partition for applications in the externel SD card)
Unless the CSC is already integreted in system (2nd item) I believe these 2 items, especially baseband, are not backed up normally from CWM, otherwise there should be a restoring option too .....
Especially if you go from one generation to another (Gingerbread to Icecream e.g.) its more complicated to go back a step. You should flash a base Gingerbread ROM from samfirmware e.g. with ODIN (not a CWM version) and then try to restore your Gingerbread backup.
After you flashed the base you may change CSC before you restore your backup. This is the cleanest way to get back.
CWM nandroid is not what we know as a real image backup of a PC.
Thanks guys for the clarifications
BTW regarding the upgrade to ICS what is the best option to do it and restore back the apps or keep them ?

This you have to do with Titanium back up not with CWM back-up...with Titanium Backup pro you can restore applications from nandroid (CWM) backup.
there should not be any problem while you restore only apps on the ICS, some may not work, just unsinstall such...better you select it individually and install... but dont attempt for any system data restore....
This is exactly what I have done, i tried to restore using TB but from backup taken by TB and not from Nandroid.
It was working fine but later start to hang and restart. I noticed that the issue is coming from applications installed on external SD? Is there any issue with ICS or CF-root kernel and external SD card?

try moving all apps from ext sdcard to phone for a while and check for any issues like hang or restart
I found an open issue related to crash and reboots when a large number of apps are installed on sd card.

I've read some other posts where this has caused a certain amount of controversy but no post seemed to actually answer the question..
Using the Wipe data\Factory reset in ClockWorkMod Recovery has started to wipe the ENTIRE device
(excluding the external SD card)
I have flashed dozens of custom ROMs in the past and what normally happens is my external SD card contents remains safe, this still happens, no problem there, and all my personal documents such as music, pictures, videos and all other files that are not part of the actual ROM itself remain safe too.
BUT
Yesterday, i flashed a certain ROM designed to resemble the S4 (with leaked 4.2.2). Its performance was shockingly bad and other reasons caused me to flash a new ROM which i had used in the past - but when i wiped data/factory reset through CWM - ALL MY INTERNAL SD CONTENTS WHERE GONE
Things i did notice with the 4.2.2 ROM before re-flashing were that:
-When i connected it to the computer (via USB) my device was seen as i9500 (the S4)
-Also, it had created a "0\" folderto store the system ROM.
-I also noticed, wehn re-flashing, it took longer to wipe data than usual..
NOTE: I DID NOT USE THE FACTORY RESET THROUGH ANDROID SETTINGS - THIS, I KNOW, WILL WIPE THE ENTIRE INTERNAL SD, PERSONAL FILES AND ALL. THIS WAS DONE THROUGH CWM.
Because obviously the 4.2.2 ROM wiped my entire Internal SD i had no ROM packages left on it to flash and because obviously i didnt know this until i wiped/reset it involved me having to use ODIN to reflash a STOCK ROM just to be able to boot up and transfer files (ROM packages) from PC to phone - which obviously then meant i had to reflash CWM aswell before i could install the new ROM.
Final Note:
The problem i have, is that i have to do the above EVERYTIME i want to flash a different ROM (i flashed 3 last night).
For some reason when i wipe through CWM my internal SD card is COMPLETELY WIPED!
The question is......Why???
Could the 4.2.2 ROM have re-partitioned my internal SD card and now CWM thinks the ENTIRE thing is data to wipe?
This is the only reasoning i could put to why it wont leave MY FILES alone...
If this IS the case, how do i get it back to normal??
I'm told, on numerous websites in BIG BOLD RED LETTERS that selecting 're-partition' in ODIN is bad and is just a ticket for a free paperwieght (the phone!).
Thank you to ANYONE who can help with this......
The clue may be in the 0 folder. Please read link in my signature to see if it helps

Thanks for your help, however the info you suggested does not solve my query..
The info you've provided assumes that the data is stored somewhere else, ie. 0\
Although my device did create a 0\ location when wiping the data, no personal data was in this location.
When i flashed back to stock using Odin, i could see that my phones internal storage was only 1.0-1.5GB used.
Before i started this i only had about 900mb left on my device!
So its not that my data is hiding somewhere.....its gone, and everything on my hones internal storgare is wiped everytime i "wipe data/factory reset" through CWM.
My partner's phone has suddenly decided of its own accord that it wants to reformat the internal memory, presumably due to some sort of unrecoverable data corruption. The message that came up informing us of that was something along the lines of "Phone memory is damaged. The data partition is damaged, you should restore your phone to factory settings. Doing so will delete all your data" and then a single button saying "Restore phone to factory settings". (I say something along the lines because that is a translation from the actual Spanish message that comes up)
So, she has a bunch of data that she would prefer not to lose (mostly backed up, but some apps not, and photos missing for last month or so of our daughter - usual story).
So I have been hunting around to see if it would be possible, and mostly what I have found isn't too optimistic. I did however find the following link that did seem somewhat promising:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705
So it is for the Nexus and the title refers to internal data, but then also refers to SD cards, but the process does seem to refer to internal data. I have a bunch of questions about the process in the context of an S3:
1. Anyone think this process is transferable to the S3? If so what is the equivalent data partition name? For the Nexus it appears to be /dev/block/mmcblk0p12. Would that be the same for the S3?
2. I am going to have to root this device first unfortunately (meaning I am going to have to write to the internal memory ahead of doing the RAW dump, obviously not ideal, but I see no way round it). Is the process described here (root only option):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
appropriate, or am I going to need to somehow find out what version my partner was on (not 100% sure but I think it was 4.1.2) and adjust accordingly?
3. Do I have to have a fully working version before I can install busybox, or is that something that can be put in place using CWM?
4. Likewise do I have to have a fully working version before I can get ADB working or can I get ADB to work with CWM? I have found a couple of threads that suggest ADB works natively with CWM and others that suggest not.
5. I know how to turn on USB debugging if I can get into setttings of a normal Android system, but how do I do that without a working version, can that be done via CWM?
I guess basically I want to know what would be the minimal set of steps that I can run through to get Busybox installed on the phone, (presumably rooted) and talking ADB to my PC. I say minimal set of steps becuase the less writing I do, the more data might be salvagable.
I am surprised that there isn't some bootstrap version that can't just pull off the existing data and allow you to manipulate it elsewhere (which is what the process I have put the link to seems to do) but it seems much more involved than just a bootstrap.
Be gentle with me - I am just a noob!

if its only that I would do it a bit more simpler:
for app data: make a nandroid backup and after the reformat you can use nandroid manager to restore your apps and their data (if you simply restore the damaged data partition as a nandroid backup the problem could accur again). but maybe if the apps and data are damaged because of the damaged data partition they could maybe not be restored.
for photos etc. you can flash philz touch and then follow the steps in the main thread of philz touch on how to put the aroma.zip onto an external sd card (just search for aroma in the thread, you'll find it). aroma is like a file browser with root priviliges which can be executed through recovery. with that you can copy your photos onto the external sd card
btw. I am not sure if the standard factory reset wipes the internal sd cards data. if you only format your data partition photos etc. shouldn't be affected (for example through philz recovery you can just format data partition).
Data Recovery from sick galaxy s3 (installing custom recovery)
Thanks for that... that makes sense... any way I can get the custom recovery onto the phone without having already reformatted the data partition? All the methods I have seen for installing a custom recovery require normal access to the phone... and I don't have that at the moment - just to a screen that tells me that it will reformat the data partition - and I don't want to do that if I can avoid it - as it will modify the data I am trying to save.

Data recovery sticky ???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344125
Okay so I think I've f***ed up pretty big somehow.
I wanted to install a custom ROM (neatrom) on my phone and followed every guide on how to do so.
I backed up my EFS folder made a titanium backup, Clockwork mod back up, did all my contacts and sms separately and made a copy of all these on my laptop.
I copied the new rom onto my interal sd card, then performed wipedata/factory reset, then wipe cache, wipe davlik cache, format system.
Went to install my new rom and came up with the message (while still in recovery mode) "error status 7, installation aborted"
I thought it best to abandon this therefore as i'm not majorly clued up on flashing ROMs and so went to restore my origional backed up ROM but i'm now getting the message 'no files found' when I select it.
I am now completely stuck and cannot get out of recovery mode even when I take out the battery.
Can someone please help and if you could dim down the really technical stuff it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance!

Hi there. Don't panic! I'm assuming you have either an S2 or S3 since you are trying to run NeatRom. As many details about your phone and what software was on it before you started is always very important. However, this should be easy enough. First thing, if you just need it up and running again ASAP then grab an external SD card, copy the backups from the computer to it and reboot recovery and restore from external.
Status 7 issues often are due to checks in the update script that checks the build.prop of your system to see if it is compatible. If you have wiped /system then it can not read the build.prop so just assumes that it isn't going to work for your safety. So, how to fix that? Follow this guide as a general rule of thumb: http://highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/
If you do not have an external SD card, then you will have to get adb up and running so you can push files via adb to the phone. I won't bother explaining this unless it is needed.
