Is it possible to port the standard Google apps from say, a Galaxy Nexus image?
I downloaded the system dump for the Galaxy Nexus and tried copying the Phone.apk to the /system/app dir (renaming the existing one) but nothing happens- after restart for example the Phone app (Google) does not appear in the launcher. Also found this link but they apparently dont work :-(
Personally I think samsung has regressed ICS by using their custom apps. Fair enough, some may have found they improved say Froyo or Gingerbread (not sure what it originally came with) but vanilla ICS is just so slender!
It should be able to work s I've ADB pushed that plus Contacts and other apps from AOSP builds to this KP1 build. I removed most of TouchWiz from the phone and it still "worked" (visually anyways). I can't wait to get a full AOSP build, after playing with the others i'm just drooling more and more these days!
can you share the contacts and phone app with me? im just doing the same with deleting the bloatware.

First off, I will admit that I am relatively new to rooting android phones. I did have multiple Jailbroken iPhones, however that is something different entirely.
So I just recently flashed Eugene's Vibrant5 rom, and I absolutely love it... however I do miss some of the stock applications that come with the Vibrant. I was wondering if anyone happened to have the .apks for the original applications? I have a Titanium Backup from before the flash, and it shows the applications in the list... however when I try and Restore Missing Applications + System Data it doesn't do anything. There isn't a whole lot I miss, things like Thinkfree Office. I know there is Adobe Reader for free in the Market, but I did try it and it didn't work for me. Not being able to search through a .pdf file was an EPIC fail for me.
Any help would be appreciated
I also think having a thread with all of the stock .apk's listed for download would be a great idea. I am also rooted, and if someone could tell me how to get these off of my phone in .apk format, I won't mind uploading any of them, if not all, of course over time
are they located in /system/app/ folder?
I'm already on Vibrant5 rom, I can verify that there are a lot of .apk files in there, I can't say whether or not ALL the stock ones are there though. Is there a relatively decent demand for these to be posted? If so I don't mind reverting back to stock and pulling them all off for everyone.
Bump on this one, been really wanting the stock calender and the calculator .apk cause they both just have more features then those that are on eugenes roms ( google map points saved to calender appointments, much more complex calculations avail on the calc besides both just look better imo).....
A bunch of these apps can't even be backed up through titanium, it unity copies data fort some reason or another. Apks of these would be awesome or at the least some files and the required terminal commands would be appreciated.
Pooped from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA app...
Dont mind the skidmarks...
hey guys.
tried LP2 out and while it isn't polished enough (let alone the bugs) for me to stay with it ...i really did like a few things, task manager, browser, and the gmail app in particular ..
will the ICS gmail app run ok on KL3 ?
i grabbed the first apk i could find online and tried it just before, but popping it in the apps folder did nothing ....and trying to install the thing ...get a can't parse apk error ..
:/
There is absolutely no way to get the ics Gmail app running on gingerbread, even if you somehow managed to get it to install, you would never be able to open it, it would just force close instantaneously. The app relies on a completely different framework than what gingerbread has. It is kind of like trying to install htc sense apps on touchwiz, it is never going to work. Sorry to say, but you’re going to have to wait for a newer ICS build if you want those new apps.
If I have helped please press the “Thanks” button
You seem like a smart guy. Able to flash roms and 128 posts since 2008, could be worse.
Why would you ever imagine that any stock app from any major revision would work on the previous OS. Certainly even by dragging and dropping the APK??
ICS is a major overhaul of the OS, we're not even talking about the fact that Gingerbread (2.3) stock apps wont work on Eclair (2.1) but ICS (4.0) apps will never work on Gingerbread (2.3).
Just sit tight, ICS will be out soon enough for us from samsung in non beta form..
yeh fair call, suspected so but really liked it so ... ah well, one can hope.
kinda the down side that when you get to the end of a cycle , with KL3 being soooo solid and near perfect .... get a few mths out of it then back to buggy roms with ICS.
but yeh, a mth or two out yet i guess .... just wee things like trying to get the edit point in the ICS browsers address bar to the end .... nightmare on the LP2.
any chance google upgrade the gingerbread browser and gmail app to be along the lines of the ones seen in ICS ..i'm guessing no lol.
fingers crossed sammy end up with a really clean ICS rom for us in a few mths then.
PS it works on xoom/honeycomb ...thats what got my hopes up
Hey guys,
i rooted my phone some days ago, threw everything that's Samsung out of it (Gallery, Calendar, Tasks, the hubs etc.) and replaced it with stock ICS stuff. However, I haven't found a way to replace the samsung dialer or the contacts app with their resective AOSP equivalents. Is there a way to do that?

yes its there to replace, but from my past it will often give you problems over time. so its better to use some alternative dialers or simply you can try some custom aokp/aosp roms.
Use custom ROM which is based of Samsung with themed as aosp.
Do a search for aospcontactsmms.zip I used to have it but stopped using it due to it causing problems with the built in blacklist.

Thanks for the replies So far, I'm really impressed by how well everything works, even after removing some Apps Like all the hubs, chat, samungs e-mail and calendar app etc.
I really thought i would run into problems, since this is the first time i rooted an android phone and messed around with it. I will now try to replace the contacts app etc., and if that causes problems I'll go for cm9...or is there a ROM that's even closer to "stock ics"?
Stock ics .... Look under Android development.
While I'm not new to ROM flashing (I've done it with my previous devices), I'm new to flashing Samsung phones and the Note specifically.
I'm looking forward to trying out the early build of CM9, but I still want to retain the S-Note app. Is there a repository of the stock APKs somewhere? Or maybe I can copy it over? And if so, would it run on ICS?
Thanks in advance.
Im running OnlyOne ICS ROM and my S Memo works fine. Not sure about the .apk file tho. Sorry.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
I've actually tried to do the same thing. I got Supernote to work and MyDiary but SNote refuses to install. I do not remember if SMemo installed but all of the Spen functionality (screenshot, back, home, menu) kind of goes out the window with the CM9 rom due to framework qualifications.
However, there are a bunch of other apps on the market that you can look into that work pretty well (I enjoy NoteMaster).
Hope this helped.
Edit: I am running The Hybrid RC 6.2 and it is runs all of the S-apps amazingly so I think if keeping note specific apps is vital than you should try to go with that Rom.
Hi there. Recently I transferred from KA10.2 to the latest build of CM9. I really like what I've seen so far as the phone feels eons faster than it was on even the modded but stock ics. However I really do miss the unique aesthetic features that Sony provided. These included apps such as the films app, the Sony widgets, the camera app (even though I found an alternative that's better, it'd still be nice to have that), maybe even the contacts app, messaging etc. I've tried extracting the apk from stock roms and installing them on my phone but they'd just say not installed and that's it. I figured that there's more to the apps than just the apk.
Could someone with more knowledge about how these apps work please tell me how to port these apps onto cm9? I'm juggling between speed/performance and eye candy, right now I'm sticking with performance but it'd be great to have the best of both worlds. Thanks
Try to copy the apps directly to /system/app, and then changing the permissions to 755
Thank
I have looked into this a little and unfortunately most of the Sony apps depend on the framework which is obviously not present in CM9. I got notes to work by simply restoring the titanium backup but I've not managed to get calendar or messaging (the other two I'd like) working

you can download ka sspeed rom and use the app files in it.. although most of the apps dont work but i found out what does
ALBUM works but without online photos... take it from the ka zip file and install it like any apk file
Calendar works but a bit buggy when syncing.. it doesnt install so u have to replace the calendar app in the system/apk and change permissions (make a backup just in case)
Infinite view works (copy the apk to system and change permissions)
Notes work as was said before
