Hi, Is it possible to config a PS3 controller to work with GTA 3?
Any ideas ?
only if the program supports external inputs. Try it out
I only use mine for emulators for now.

It's not quite that simple. The default mapping is completely different than what the game expects.
So far, I've worked out the following mappings (Map these keys to whatever buttons you feel are correct, I'll dig out my PS2 copy tomorrow and check what everything is supposed to be)
A = Look Left
C = Change camera (Far\Close\Above)
D = Look Right
S = Look Down
W = Look Up
R = Change radio station
F/Enter = Get into\out of vehicle
Back = Return to menu
Space = Jump\Brake
Direction keys for directions & accelerate\steer
Still working on:
Punch\Shoot
Next\Previous weapon
Unless I've missed obvious instructions somewhere, it's just a case of trial & error. If I could work out where my mini bluetooth keyboard has gone it might expedite the process a bit...
Yes I am rooted and using Sixaxis Controller app. So for only the analog stick is working in GTA ... Still have to config the keys for rest of the actions like run, shoot and stuff.
There a tutorial about ShadowGun to work with PS3 controller, well need something like that.

Thanks! Where did you find these mappings though? I have a transformer , the SixAxis controller app and GTA III . I've gotten the analog sticks to move the character or steer the car, but haven't seen an obvious place in the options screen to map anything.
Edit: Also saw this link: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/12032-tutorial-use-a-sixaxis-with-gta-iii/

Mapping are in the settings for the Sixaxis "keyboard".
The tutorial method is a good alternative, I shall experiment.

Hey guys,
I just worked on this over the weekend, I mapped out the controls using SixAxis controller and below is a video that shows it working great on my HP Touchpad. Should work on any rooted device that will be able to play GTA III. Hope this helps!

Did you even bother reading any of this thread?
I've got a touchscreen mapping for mine that works with everything without needing to reconfigure GTA3 at all except for swapping the location of the handbrake & shoot buttons in driving mode, but I've no idea how to export it (it has an "import" function so presumably it saves the file somewhere in an importable form). The mapping I've used is setup exactly the same as the PS2 version (I have a physical copy of the game & manual that I was testing against). It's fairly similar to the setup MinusTheOh has come up with.
The only way to get shooting to work is via the touchscreen map, there doesn't _seem_ to be any keyboard equivalent to map the function to.
I'm also running it on my TouchPad as playing it on the little SGS2 screen is too awkward.

Just had a quick check, they seem to be saved in /sdcard/data/com.dancingpixelstudios.sixasiscontroller/profiles (.map files).
Can somebody release a profile which really works?
I couldn't find one who actually works on my Motorola Atrix 4G Cyanogen mod 7.

Can you give me a link where i can find this tombraider, i am a fanatic.
i found the link on google searching for tombraider pda

hope it's the right one
Just discovered the lack of buttons, I am going to try the different key controls A B C, have you tried those yet? I was hoping the save/pause button is remapped. Will let you know.
All keys are available
use the contacts and calender buttons and the rec button for the above mentioned functions.
The game is almost a direct port - with the exception of no multiple key presses - so you cant make Lara do that handstand climb manouever.
I am glad that I never played the game originally on the playstation - so I am slowly trying to complete it for the first time.
4 months in and I am only up to level 5!!!!!
Jayman
I remember I installed the game, but I had to take it out, because the only way that I could quit the game was resetting the machine, how do you quit?
Jayman are you using a xda?
I cannot access the menu or quit too.
Nope neither can I, how do you map those buttons to save/pause etc, as the man said, the only way out is a soft reset.
Right:::
I use control config A.
Flip screen left and toggle off both running and walking.
Within the game, all soft buttons(ie those on screen) should work as advertised.
D pad -directs Lara
calender - gets out current weapon.
contacts - fires or actions.
record/volume button - accesses menu.
In the menu u can go up and down 3 levels
Inventory - here are your weapons medipaks compass, press the soft select to use a medipak (Lara will groan) or to change weapon.
Above that is Items where you keep anything you have found.
The bottom screen is the options where if you select 'game' you have the option to load or save a game. You can also exit to the title screen.
Then from the title screen you use the same option to exit back to TODAY.
I have also found that if i press one of the phone buttons - it exits imediately without the need for a soft or hard reset and when you restart the game providing you have not hard or soft reset, you are exactly where you left the game.
Hope this all makes sense and is of help to you. If this does not work for you it may be the OS you are running or some software that is providing a conflict. This all worked on original OS and SE1.2 but I have not upgraded to WM2003 yet. If you have any other software that has the rec/volume button mapped - this may be the conflict to prevent you getting to the menus.
Good luck and Good Raiding.
Jayman.
(PS - I never enjoyed single player games on console or PC - always prefered to beat someone in the room - but it is great on a mobile platform when caught out with time to kill - yet would not carry a handheld - so this game is a godsend hence earlier post - MORE PLEASE)
Thanks Jayman.
The copy I am testing is probably a demo :wink:

Not quite accurate.
I haven't tried the Volume button on Tomb Raider specifically, but there are plenty of games that allows you to use the volume button.
Between the ones I can remember are:
Motocross Stunt Racing, Morphgear emulator, Darxide EMP, etc.
i got the full version of tombraider and i could never get the medipk and options up to exit i had to soft reset :\ even when i remaped buttons it dont work for volume :|
Well pressing volume or any of the phone buttons does nothing.
Jayman, are you using an XDA, the phone buttons on mine do zilch, I cannot quit or get a menu once I have started a game.
Yeah I am using the XDA.
I did nothing special when I loaded it on so I can not see how yours would be different - unless you have mapped the buttons in another application that could be affecting it?
Try reinstalling and make sure all apps are closed right down before booting. Also - shouldn't make a difference - but i usually turn the phone off before playing games.
Jayman.
I have spent ages with this, without success, there is no menu at the foot of the screen, just have left/right arrows bottom right, and the movement icons, the volume key does nothing, neither of the phone keys red/green does anything.
i told you it didnt work but no one listened :| only way to exit is soft reset
gaz
i wonder why... i have an emulator, that emulates an old computer of mine, (colecovision ADAM), and IT allows me to map all 5 buttons to play the ADAM roms. hmmm
im sure its just a programing glitch.
i installed the game, great graphics.. but its too sufisticated for me
i like arcade cames, like TURJAH II, SIBERIAN STRIKE X and such.
Install this app to make these both work: LMT v0.8x. It is a Global Multitouch Gestures App for the HD2, and it includes a full multitouch onscreen gamepad as well as a 2 button version of the gamepad for mouse games in some emulators or apps. Get it from this page of this forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=629263&page=74 This 'x' version of this emulator has the '2 button version' of the gamepad that will enable Amiga mouse games to work.
FOR POCKETUAE (POCKET ULTIMATE AMIGA EMULATOR )
0.) Be Advised: No Keyboard in PocketUAE, just mouse (there is a keyboard but I cannot get it to work)
1.) I installed PocketUAE from sourceforge here: h??p://sourceforge.net/projects/pocketinsanity/files/
2.) I grabbed some kickstart roms via torrents
3.) Googling up "the game archives roms emulators" led me to a sight with over 500 games that download fast.
4.) I installed PocketUAE to my storage card and put the kickstart 1.3 and some game disks into their respective folders in PocketUAE install folder.
5.) the settings i'm using are:
chip - processor type 68020/68881
chip - graphics chipset - enhanced (a500,a2000)
chip - max speed
chip - checked box for fast copper
mem - max chip mem, 3 megs fast ram
video - screen mode 320x250 (st pocket pc)
video - graphics driver - DIB Driver
video - checked bubble for left rotation
video - 2 frames frameskipping
video - checked fullscreen and fast blitter
audio - normal/mono/11025khz
buttons - i opened lmt v0.8x's gamepad and cycled through rotations till i got to the 2button controller, then I hit the 'set' buttons for left and right mouse button in the button settings and clicked each lmt button to set them.
I have been playing some games on this amiga emulator and also making use of the pinch/zoom feature on the hd2 -- it is very cool. Its easy for me to hit the 2 buttons on LMT's 2button version of the gamepad, because they straddle the 'zoom preview' window. I found that you will suffer reduced framerates using pinch and zoom UNLESS you apply tip3 below this paragraph.
TIP1: Emulator will take over the screen and not want to close unless you assign an exit key to a button on the full gamepad OR you should assign an LMT gesture to either KILL foreground app or CLOSE all windows (quickmenu is good at making a shortcut command for this). At the end of this post is list what I do to 'prevent pulling battery' with games.
TIP2: because the emulator is 640x480 you see part of the app that is running below it, so I click a 'black background wallpaper' I have before I run the emulator, so that the app thats below it is a 'full screen of blackness' displayed by HTC's album manager. I do this with mortscript, but a task launcher like 'quickmenu' works good for it too.
TIP3: Increase zoomed framerates by disabling the 'blinking little arrows' inside HTC's zoom preview box. The 3 games I play so far had reduced framerates when zoomed before I changed this reg key to 999999 from 12. HKLM\Software\HTC\TouchGL\StayTimePerAnimation\999999. For me, this worked, but please remember your original value in that reg key.
FOR POCKET CULT MAME:
I installed mame and installed a bunch of roms and ran mame and then went to buttons to set the buttons whilst LMT v0.8x's gamepad controller was on the screen and it 'just worked'.
FINAL TIP FOR BATTERY PULL PREVENTION:
I made a gesture in LMT for pesky games that require a battery pull. I have an LMT gesture mapped to a mortscript* that runs a "close all windows" shortcut command that I made with an app called quickmenu* and that same mortscript just kills .exe's I've listed, like pcmame.exe and dosbox.exe.
( * - Mortscript is a simple scripting app for windows mobile - if you're not familiar with it already it would be too much trouble to try this tip.)
( * - Quickmenu is that 'cascading start menu utility app' that has some cool features to it. A lot of people call it 'ghetto' on the hd2, but I love it, but if you're not familiar with it already it would be too much trouble trying my tip to prevent battery pulling.)
I just got this app on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 using a Logitech F310 controller, switchable between X Input and Direct Input modes. After flashing a kernel module for X Input mode to work, I set up a "driver" in the app to map all the buttons/joysticks, then assigned those to DPAD UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT, button 1, button 2, etc. After mapping all of those in emulators, they work great.
One small problem though: no analog support on the joysticks. The driver creation part of the USB/BT Joystick Center app recognizes the full analog range, but I seem to only be able to assign it to on/off buttons. Thus, I only get to toggle between zero and full range movement, nowhere in between.
Is there a way to fix this, maybe using another app?
I've been looking for an answer to this as well... It's nice that I can now use all the buttons on my Xbox 360 controller, but I sure would like to have true analog stick support!
I got this app too but just cant figure out how to set it up, are there any help pages for it? tring to set up an old FF joystick which is recognised by the app but dont know where to proceed, thanks.

Hey guys,
Don't know if anyone will get mad for posting this but the "Gears of War" style game Shadowgun just barely released about 30min. ago on the tegra market.
This is pretty cool as us Photon users get too show off the power of our tegra phone first before other androids get it released at a later date.

Ya i did, played through the 1st level it's really good. The game looks like a unreal engine console game. The one thing that's impressing me a lot is the controls, compared to nova this is a lot more accurate. Another thing that is awesome compared to the ipod counterpart is it has gamepad support for joystick controllers, gonna get my ps3 controller hooked up later today and might get an hdmi cable as well. Not bad for 4.99!
i'm having a hard time getting the game to recognize the ps3 controller using the sixaxis app
anybody have any luck?
Edit: controller mappings to be able to play the game
figured it out. had to go into the settings of the sixaxis controller app and check the box next to bypass IME and then reconfigure button mappings in the sixaxis setting.
dpad center is for fire i set that to both R2 and R! plus the start key to be able to select menu options.
7 is for reload and i set that to L1 and L2
J is for analog 2 left
L is for analog 2 right

K is for analog 2 down
dpad left for analog 1 left
dpad right for analog 1 right
dpad up for analog 1 up
dpad down for analog 1 down
back for select which pause the game

D is for SMG set that to x

Hey all,
I've got a quick question which I've googled and all but am unable to find the answer to.
I have installed GTA Anniversary on my tab and have plugged a USB controller into the device and started playing, this works just fine however the button mapping is really strange.
I want to try and better map the controller to match that of a console version of the game but there isn't any controller mapping section in the options, so I downloaded USB/BT Joycentre which allows you to map keyboard keys to joystick buttons.
But so far I can only find that:
Space bar = jump
Enter = enter car
Movement already works so I just need to sort out the other keys....however I'm pretty sure I've pressed every other key on the keyboard and can't seem to find punch, sprint, change weapon, so on and so fourth.
Has anybody else tried/had any joy with this?
Thanks all.
I have the same problem.
I tried it with BT/USB Joypad app or something like that.
However, the asus didn't ask me for USB permission (like shown in the tutorial of the app) and didn't recognize the controller
If you can root and use the SixAxis app, I posted a video awhile ago on button mapping and playing GTA III with a PS3 controller via Bluetooth. My mapping was near complete but not quite there, if you check the video response someone made an improved one. Hopefully this might help you or others wanting an answer for this.

Tried those and most did not work (also missing some key ones). From looking around it looks like they changed the key bindings in the most recent update. Just briefly testing things I found most of the controls, even ones like 'shoot' that were missing. Sometime soon I will sit down and record all of the ones I can find, unless someone else wants to or already has? lol
Still no luck with touch mapping with sixaxis, but the developer knows of the issue.

it worked before the update on the 28th, but it doesnt seem to work. the controller works and everything, but the touch mappings dont seem to ever load. it seems to be stuck on the default key mapping.
