[Q] SD is not mounted - HTC Rezound

Anyone else having problems with the "dual SD card" setup? Dropbox says there's no SD mounted. Gallery loads no pictures. Root explorer can access the "external" SD just fine, but also says the "internal" SD is not mounted.
WTF???
I have a corporate email setup, so I have to have all the encryption BS.
Once in awhile I will manage to mount it but it will be read-only.
Am I missing something, here????

I remember reading about someone having problems with the SD card after using encryption.
This may have been it:

My Rezound has the options for full encryption and SD encryption in the settings. However it hasn't worked well for me.
I turned it on right after I purchased it and then added all the apps I wanted; two days later it said that the SD card (sdcard2) was connected to a computer so all the apps were read only. A simple reboot didn't do anything for it, so I powered down and removed the battery and SD card and then put it all back together and booted - that time it said the SD card was no longer encrypted and needed to be formatted to be used. I never got it to accept the SD card, so I finally reformatted it and then re-installed everything.
The next day, the phone was unable to access the internal SD (sdcard ), after trying multiple times to get it back, I finally turned off encryption, allowed the phone to format the internal SD card and then reconfigured everything again.
If it was a dev phone, I wouldn't mind and I'd spend more time to figure it out and get it working correctly, but I need this one to work correctly for everyday use.

I searched the other two forums I've been at and didn't find anything so I think the above is what I'm remembering. Looks like encryption may not be working too well.

Keeps happening when I use temp root (not the sole cause but makes i worse). Guess I will not be using it anymore...

[Q] Phone doesn't detect SD card

Dear XDA'ers.
I've had an S2 for a while now and I've been running CM9 since early alpha. Recently I decided to buy an SD card (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005FY61EK/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00) so that I can use it to store my movies. After I got it, I realised that MoboPlayer or AirDroid couldn't detect the SD card and the only way I could put something on it was through a physical USB cable. Now, today I wanted to try something but I found out that my phone doesn't show the SD card at all anymore. I tried taking it out and putting it back in several times as well as flashing the latest CM9 nightly but nothing happened. The only apparent difference that I can see when I put the SD card in is that in the Storage section in Settings, under the SD card tab, I have an option "Mount SD Card" but when I press it, it says preparing SD card yet nothing happens.
Is the SD card fried or what's wrong with it?
I've had the SD card for less than a week so its hard to believe that it's dead already.
Have you got a micro SD card reader that you could use to see if the card is fried? Connect it to your computer, and if it shows up it isn't fried. Also check the format of the card to make sure it is in FAT32 format.
Chris.

Ahh, I know the problem now (I completely forgot about this).
I formated it to NTFS just before I stopped working since I assumed that it works the same way a USB does (but clearly, I was wrong).
I'll format it back and see what's what.
Have u tried going into settings/memory/left softkey/storage config and select the only options there is?
have you tried other system folders?
i had the same problem before, I found out my sd card mounted as a system folder called "emmc" I'm using resurrection remix rom 2.3
Yep just fixed mine today by downloading https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.qbanin.binder&hl=en if you are unsure of what to select just see the screenshots i followed this selections and it now works fine
Alright, I've fixed it.
Basically, I had formatted it to NTFS because otherwise it gave me some error about file (the file was around 4 gb's and it acted this way with anything over 3) being too big when I was trying to copy it onto the SD card. Now that someone said it has to be in FAT32, I formatted it back and now it works perfectly.
Thanks to everyone who helped me.

[Q] Strange Recovery behaviour when trying to repartition internal sd

Hi,
I'm new to here.
I have a Computer Science Degree so my level of expertise with PC is high, but I'm fairly new to the Smartphones world, so I'm asking for help because there's something I can't manage to get it to work in my Samsung Galaxy SII (nobrand).
Let's begin with some info about the device:
The device was a 3.xx, then upgraded via Kies to 4.03 and succesfully rooted with CF's root. I routed my device since I wanted to have full control over it, but mostly because I wanted to install a firewall (to prevent some application from accessing the internet unless I specifically wanted them to do so) and widen the device's space reserved to install applications since it was over.
Before routing, I tried to pursue the "move to external SD" trick, but that resulted like a pain in the ass. The external sd was loaded discontinuously, so at eath boot up I was finding myself with broken or unaccessible application, frequent reboots, frozen system untill the sd was loaded, forcing me to cold re-boot the phone. That lead to sd burnout since probably at the 100th freeze, I cold-turned-off the phone during a write cycle and ****ed it up.
SO, this is the reason why I don't want to move applications to external sd anymore (here where I live it's said: forgive the first, club the second)
I noticed that there is a new trick that consists in repartitioning part of the internal SD to ext format and bridging it to the phone's memory tricking the phone to think applications are installed into the phone's memory where they are actyally installed into the internal repartitioned sd instead. (with some apps)
So after months of thoughts about resetting the phone and trying this solution, Yesterday I believed the time had come. In the meantime, Android 4.12 was officially released by Samsung, so I decided to take 2 peagions with 1 breadcrumb and did the match.
I first did a hard reset, then I installed everything new via Odin (downloaded the entire 900Mb pack and flashed it over). Everything went ok and I succesfully installed PhilZ Kernel 4.022b +root).
The Phone is now operative and fully working...
BUT
going to re-partition the external SD is a real nightmare I haven't been able to dig through.
I try to access the recovery with VolUp+Home+Power and the recovery loads. Immediately after booting, I receive the following error:
E: failed to Mount exfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard
"Nevermind I thought...I don't have an external SD card so that might be the problem".
I went to "Advanced" and then "Partition Internal SD Card", I selected the sizes (2048/32), some rapid flashes and menu back to where it was. Consulting the log, the error is the same as before: E: failed to Mount exfat /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard
Mhm...maybe I should select "external SD card". Result: Can't Mount SD Card
So we have...the internal sd card trying to Mount to /sdcard...that is the same as external? Something doesn't really work...
So...the card works in phone mode...but not in recovery mode...how strange...
Then i recalled that when I routed the phone, I installed the root via recovery/zip file, so It should actually see the internal sd card. BINGO! when I try to install something, It perfectly loads the internal contents of the card and a quick look to the path, unveils the problem:
THE INTERNAL CARD IS MOUNTED TO /emmc/
So...we have...recovery mounts internal card to /emmc but when he tries to repartition/reformat he tries to Mount...something to something else and fails.
So I'm stuck here. I heared this might be a problem because 4.12 changes mappings to devices and that I should tamper with vold.fstab but before destroying my phone I came here to ask some experts.
I also read that I might bind externalSD to internalSD, but I don't really uderstad what this mean. Is it something temporary? Will I be able to use external sd and internal sd or is it something I have to operate each time I want to use external SD.
Last but not least: Does that apply to my case? Because I saw that there is people applying that method that have problems loading internalsd in phone mode but my case is completely different. The phone works 100%, the only problem is that I can't repartition from recovery.
So CWM problem? PhilZ problem?
Please help me as I'm stuck.
EDIT: I found ICS SD Binder, but has someone any advice on how to map correctly internal & external SD card? Also...the phone when is on, mounts internal card to /sdcard. So where is the point? Should I Mount the internal card manually to /sdcard?
Man thats a long post. Most of it sounds greek to me. Anyway i have been using my s2 for sometime now. But i still could not fill 2gb of my internal memory with apps. And you dont have to partition your internal sd

If you read his first sentence, it states that he has filled his memory with apps, he does not have any more room on his internal sdcard partition. Some of those apps he uses could take alot of memory.

@OP You may have enough knowledge about computer but when trying to apply it to the phone, you maybe causing problems with the phone. A little knowledge could be a dangerous thing.

This means you didn't read paying attention... I don't want to move application to EXTERNAL sd card...just re-partition the internal and move THERE some of them.
CWM has an option "partition internal sd card", that does not work because it tries to do things on /sdcard while the internal sdcard is mounted as /emmc and NOT /sdcard.

SD Card unexpectingly stopped working.

Was using my wifi tether while phone was plugged in and when I checked my phone, I seen the white sd card with the exclimation point and when I pulled down my notification bar, it said "Removed SD Card, Insert a new one." I put it in another phone, said same thing. I put it in my laptop, and Windows didn't even recognize it in any way. When I put it back in my phone, it said "Damaged SD Card, Reformat needed" or whatever. When I tried to reformat it, it said it couldn't be reformatted. When I rebooted into 4ext to reformat it, it kept giving me errors that it couldn't be reformatted.
I'm running Dastin's WILD FOR THE NIGHT 2/15 4.2.2 rom. My SD card is a Lexar High-Speed Class 10 32GB.
All I'm trying to do is recover everything that is/was on it. I have a feeling that that isn't possible. I had 4GBs of music, about 10GBs of downloads, custom roms, etc.
If anyone knows how to recover my files or format the sd card without errors please tell me. Thank you.
I had the exact same problem once. no card reader was recognizing it. what i did was go to recovery and format the card from there. I remember i had to choose 4ext partition option or something like that to get it to format
Whenever I go into 4ext, it says sd card can't be mounted. The only way I got it to do anything was I used a friends desktop computer and it recognized it in My Computer, yet when I click Open, it says it's not accessible. I right clicked on it, did the full format, and at the end it said it couldn't be formatted. I went to properties and the disk is blue and it says 0kbs in all sections. I tried data recovery software, partition wizards, etc and no go. Can I send it to Lexar and have them do something about it?
Sent from my WILD FOR THE NIGHT'd Fr3vo that makes iPhags Jellybean.
Go into recovery and then select make sd-ext4 partition option. It should format the card. then afterwards you can remove the ext partition by reformatting
What if the sd card isn't recognized by any computer? And I have data recovery software that "claims" it can restore your data even after a format. Is that even possible?
Sent from my WILD FOR THE NIGHT'd Fr3vo that makes iPhags Jellybean.
I was once able to restore around 90 percent of my images on a corrupted card but i have never seen a card restore all the data on a card. It's all your luck
I had app backups, game data, videos, and about 4gbs of music. Will it restore them or images only?

Re:
Due to corruption your memory card stopped working and need to repair corruption issue, go for Kernel for windows data recovery software for the recovery of your data from the corrupted sd memory card.
Well i put the sd card in an action replay sd card adapter (the one that you take the bottom off and it turns into a usb drive) and I was able to bring up everything that was on it. I backed it up and formatted it with win7 partition wizard or something, and I put it in a regular sd adapter and I got nothing. For some reason it only works with the AR USB adapter. How can I get the sd card to work in my phone now? I'm thinking I can just buy another 32GB (or 64) since I was able to get everything off of it, I'm just trying to avoid that so I can try and save this one still.

Micro SD problems in HTC One (M8)

I have a 64gb Sandisk Ultra SDXC card formatted in exFAT. I had been using the card in my NOTE 2 with no issues. I normally keep all of my movies, music, emulators, and ROMs on it so I can keep space free on my phone. This morning I got my phone setup the way that I wanted it and I decided to install the SD card into the new phone. Everything seemed to go okay, I got a message telling me that it was preparing the card, but after the message disappeared, the SD card was not recognized. There were no error messages regarding the card, it simply did not show any additional storage on the phone and all options regarding the card with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" were not accessible.
I took ejected the card and formatted it to NTFS to see if that would make a difference and when I reinserted it into the (M8), it recognized it as a blank SD card that was not in the proper format. It prompted me to format the card while still installed in the device, which it did without error. After the format was complete I received the same "Preparing SD Card" message that I received before, but after the message disappeared, the card still didn't show up as additional storage.
Through a root browser I have the option to enter extSD, but nothing I put on the card is there. I then took the card back out, installed it into my Note 2 and it worked with no problems at all. Finally I ejected the card, reinstalled it in the (M8) again, it gives me the same prompt as before, but after the message disappears the additional storage does not show up and all options with exception to "Mount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" are inaccessible once again.
I have tried the fix found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700310 to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening and is there any way that I can solve the problem?

- HTC One (M8) 32gb
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Rooted Stock KitKat 4.4.2
- Jmz WP Removal Custom Kernel
If you have a USB card reader, try formatting the card as FAT32 with your computer.
I believe most cards come pre-formatted as FAT32 by default. I've always just put the cards in my Android devices without any formatting, and they work just fine.
Not sure why the device's default format didn't work, but possibly formatting on a computer will get it working.
It's possible that SD may be dying.
I had a 32gb card that a friend left with me to fill with movies/etc, but since I wasnt going to see them for a while, I decided to use it with my old LGOG. Not 3 days later, I get what you described, and now the card isnt even seen by Windows.
Even with formatting the card, it would work again for a few minutes, but as soon as I tried copying more than ~3 gigs, the card would go corrupt again.
SD cards dont last forever yo.

I just tried it out a few minutes ago. I don't know why, but it's working perfectly fine in Windows, a Note 2, S3, and an S5. I have no idea what's going on, but no matter what I try, nothing makes it work on this phone.

I was able to get the card formatted form exFAT to FAT32 and it looked like it was going to work, same with NTFS. I inserted it into the phone, waited for it to prepare the card and this time I got a message telling me that the SD Card was damaged, but I could format it in the phone. I followed the instructions, just as I had before, it went through it's thing, got to the part where it attempted to mount the card, appeared as though it was going to mount, and then nothing, just like with everything else. I have no idea what's going on.
I ran some tools on it and the card appears to be in good condition, so I have no idea what to do. I don't know if it's the phone, or if it is the card. I'm thinking about buying a 128gb card, but I'm afraid if I do, I'm going to find myself in the exact same position that I'm in now and out a lot of money to boot.
I'm loosing my mind with this thing.
Surely you must know someone that has a MicroSD card you can try. Trying another would pretty much eliminate the card as being the issue (and possibly the card tray or similar component on the phone). I have at least 2 "spare" MicroSD cards laying around.
I had a similar problem few weeks ago and I did format my 64gb card with GUIFORMAT on my win 7 PC and since then no more problem. Here is the link: http://www.realmodscene.com/index.php?/topic/323-gui-format-fat32-drive-formatter/
Thank you. I'll give it a shot right now.

You, sir, just won all my Internets. I don't know what it was about that app, but it worked like a champ the first time around. I don't get it either. I had used so many tools to get it to FAT32, but this one did the trick. I formatted the card, inserted it...was totally waiting for it to not work, and I noticed "Unmount SD Card". I read it and thought "hmmm, that's not right", lol. Then it dawned on me that it worked. Copying folders over to it now. Thanks so much, bud. I really owe you one.

Nice. I've heard that the native Windows formatting tool is not the best (although its always worked fine for me), so this might be one of those instances.

SD card problem

Hi guys im having a bit of drama with my sd card and my samsung galaxy tab a 10.1 running android 7.0 unrooted
I first noticed this yesterday as utorrent kept throwing me an error during my download, when i selected the sd card as the download location i noticed it said app data then once i changed the location to internal app data things worked fine.
I tried to delete the failed download but a little error message came up unable to delete so i formated my sd card and it asked for me to select a file to allow write function, i moved my downloads over to the sd card then continued with another download. utorrent has again failed halfway through then upon looking it has actually wiped my sd card completely nothing shows up but apparently i have used 2.8gb but theres no files.
ive been looking around and ive been seeing bits about sd write function being removed after kitkat but i cant seem to find anything about my sd card being wiped or why i cant delete files. Please could someone help me understand whats what or point me in the direction of a thread that explains all this.
thanks in advance

E.g. SanDisk forces some of their usb pen drives into a permanent read-only state when the pen drive detects that it is damaged. Once this happens, this cannot be undone. It is a mechanism to try to save the data. Perhaps your sd card is damaged and something similiar occured? It sounds like a broken/damaged sd card. If you don't need the data on the sd card, you may try to format the sd card with your pc and then again format it with your mobile device. If this fails, it is likely that the sd card is damaged.

Thanks for the reply but tbh ive been really busy getting bits sorted for my holiday i forgot to update my post, turns out its the sd reader in the tablet at fault which is a bit annoying as its the 1st time ive used it in the 8 months ive owned the tablet. Its the 2nd fault to develop with the tablet 1st fault was unresponsive touch screen tight out the box that was repaired now i need to wait until i return from my holiday to have the reader fixed, luckily an OTG and sd reader works like a charm.
