Hey everybody, been following this forum for a while, but I eventually found the need to register and post. I have a LG Optimus One from Koodo (here in Canada). I was so excited when I heard that LG finally pushed the Gingerbread update. I decided to update and then...yeah.
I was initially thrilled. Everything seemed pretty good. Nice change in colours, felt smoother, all was well. Then I noticed that my battery was dramatically affected after the update. Pre-update, I accidentally left my phone overnight sometimes and was pleasantly surprised to see much of the juice still available. I'm not sure if this is a widespread problem, but I've read that a few other users have experienced the same thing.
So, I feel like I should just go all out and try to flash mik_os CM7 rom. Now for a tech noob like me, just reading the guides/tips is pretty intimidating. I know about the possibility of bricking, so it's putting me off until I know exactly how to execute this. Or is it not possible to flash mik_os CM7 since I upgraded to 2.3.3? I read something about basebands, but I have no idea what that means. Will I have to use the KDZ updater (again, only heard about it, never actually used it) to downgrade and then proceed? I assume I'll also have to root the phone, and have read that there are many ways to do this.
Well, that's the end of my little story. I'm just very interested in flashing the CM7 rom and just want to know how to do it precisely. If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.
from your position it looks like you'll need to downgrade to froyo to flash mik's CM.. but now AdFad666's new port of CM is available for the new baseband.. so you don't need to downgrade to enjoy CM7..
what you DO need to do is..
Root phone, Install custom recovery, flash rom.
excellent guides for all these are available here itslef.. read well before attempting these.. but not to worry.. follow the instructions to the line and you'll have no problems

Ok firstly im no stranger to Android, and not entirely new to Moto (Atrix 4G), but I have to say that the RAZR has me pretty confused.
I have a Rogers RAZR being delivered that I picked up on the cheap. Its brand new and supposedly "unlocked". I would love to get ICS running on it, but despite reading the treads here for the last couple of days im still uncertain if its possible
I have used RSD before with the Atrix, but it was only to apply a patch that would allow you to unlock the bootloader (also surprised to see that the RAZR is still locked down). I know that you can flash ROMs via RSD, but what I do not understand is whether or not root and custom recovery is required? I assume that if you're flashing an official ROM, then no it is not. Correct? I also thought that flashing full sbf files was dangerous to attempt. Maybe im way off here, I don't know.
Im still a bit confused about the GSM patch for CDMA ROMs too. People seem to report issues with their phones when this is done. So im not too sure that it is a good idea to go that route either.
I understand that when things start to happen for a phone in terms of ROMs, recovery, work-arounds etc... that it can get a bit messy in the forum and things can get buried a few pages back, but i've been reading until my head hurts and i'm still uncertain where to begin. Also, there is an update that is also "supposedly" beginning this month for official ICS, but we all know that could be delayed, and delayed, and delayed. Wondering if I should just wait.
I guess I'm really hoping for someone to say do this, then this, and this...viola! I don't need an in depth step by step as I know how to figure out instructions from their respective threads. But if someone has a min to post a point form list like
Root with Motofail
Install Boot to CWM
Flash this ROM
Then this ROM etc etc...
Any help is appreciated and I hope no one thinks im asking to have my hand held here, but im at a loss. Just don't want to F my new phone when it arrives.
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help a fella out.

A. Yes. If you're flashing an official rom you do not need root/cwm. Flashing full sbf with rsd is safer than cwm restoring a nandroid backup. But if you do you'll not be able to receive further otas updates. Bootload is locked in Razr also there's a region signature verification. So you cannot flash another region rom. :/
Im still a bit confused about the GSM patch for CDMA ROMs too. People seem to report issues with their phones when this is done. So im not too sure that it is a good idea to go that route either.
A. Most of related problems on that is due bad procedure following.

A. There's one official update for latam razrs, like yours. The 2.3.6 > go into dev section and you'll find out. Ics will out in a month. Fingers crossed!

Alright, for the past few weeks, I've been developing a unified tool that would update your S-OFF amaze from whatever you have on the amaze currently, to a rooted, stock ICS rom.
This would allow newbies (and experienced users as well) to easily and painlessly update their S-OFF amaze to a stock ICS rom, with tools necessary to customize their phones. This would include superuser installed on the device, alongside with 4Ext recovery and the free 4ext recovery application. All you would have to do is open the program, let it run and answer a few simple questions. It does everything for you!
I've done a lot of testing on my device, and I believe it's ready to be released, but however, I cannot release it without other people testing it. I cannot test it as thoroughly as other people can.
I am creating this thread for anyone who is interested in testing this tool.
I would need several (3-5) willing testers that meet these requirements. (Please note, these requirements may change later on)
REQUIREMENTS:
-The HTC Amaze 4G must have S-OFF
-The device must have SuperCID!
-The device must be rooted
-Battery must be *FULLY* charged
-A Windows computer with ADB/Fastboot/HTC drivers installed
-You must have an USB *DATA* cable. -- If you can transfer files and send adb/fastboot commands with the USB cable, it will work
-Experience with ADB/Fastboot is recommended in case something goes wrong during installation
-Did I mention that your device must have S-OFF? (S-ON phones with unlocked bootloaders will not work! I know what you're thinking!)
-Most importantly, you must have the ABILITY to follow directions
If you feel that you meet these requirements, go ahead and make a post, stating that you meet the requirements. Noting your experience level with with ADB/Fastboot would be nice, but is not required. I will PM you if I deem you a good candidate. Please do not PM me about being a tester.
I am currently uploading this tool, so it'll be a few hours (or days, due to my ultra-slow connection speed) before anyone can actually test it out. Mind you, this tool is approximately 500 MB, since it includes the 531.3 OTA.
Before anyone makes a post like this - "Will this S-OFF the device?"
The answer is a resounding NO. This will NOT s-off your device, but is a tool intended FOR s-off users.
I'm down for testing, think I have enough experience, lol.
A quick reminder to everyone, I will PM you guys about the tool when the upload completes.
I was actually gonna PM you about when you are gonna release it lol. I was getting curious since it's been a while since you talked to me about it. But good luck! Let me know if you need anymore help

I certainly will let you know if I need help!

I presently have an Amaze. It is completely stock...short of the ICS update. I am not at all happy with the Bluetooth reception and have been considering "rooting" my phone with a custom ROM. Some people have eluded to a Bluetooth fix with a custom ROM. Therefore I want to root my phone. I haven't done so up to this point because I'm not sure what custom ROM is the most stable and will solve the Bluetooth issue.
I am not completely a noob. I have and HD2 and have rooted it many times (prior to the HD2 Toolkit.) I started rooting Android ROMs onto it a couple of years ago...not at all happy with WM 6.5.
I can follow directions and I want to root my Amaze. I should be a good test subject being that I am not completely familiar with the process for rooting the Amaze. I am a simpleton that can do what I am told.
Let me know if I can help. Thanks....
I'm willing to help test if you still need testers. I'm currently S-Off and have SuperCID. I have some experience with ADB such as pushing and pulling files, but other than that not much else.

I don't think is for you bro, this is for those that have already completed the things you want to do, so you could take a look see in the amaze bible thread, get familiar with things, root, unlock your bootloader, etc. When you think you got the hang of it and you can successfully do it all with less fear that you're unsure what you're doing, then hop right back in.
I can test and meet ALL of the requirements >
I will PM the testers later in the day today. It's all uploaded!
I still need a few more testers though.

This is not for you, brother.
What you need is, go the main HTC Amaze android development page, and read the sticky roll up threas (first post) . If you ARE good at following instructions, u should have no problem rooting, S Off-ing, and Super CID- ing your Amaze. Then, you can qualify as a tester.
I came from g1 and HD2 too... Those 2 are walks in the park compared to Amaze.
Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have any question.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to do a buddy of mine a favor by upgrading his Vibrant to something a lot better (he's on stock) but I'm a bit unclear on a few things. First of all let me get out of the way that I'm a Fascinate (Verizon) owner that recently modded my own phone to run AOKP ICS Milestone 6 with great results, so I figured since he pretty much had the exact same phone I could do it for him. The problem I'm running into is the procedure I used to flash my phone doesn't seem to apply to the Vibrant (or at least what I was searching for) so I just wanted to clear up a few steps before I try to flash his phone.
He's not a very tech savvy guy, so he won't be updating ROMs on the bleeding edge or anything, he just wants his phone to run better so I figure ICZen is the way to go right, considering it's based off of what I'm using now (AOKP M6)? Everything needs to work, so that pretty much rules out any JB right now because of the GPS issues. Okay now onto the specific flashing questions:
1) This thread seems to be the go to thread for flashing the Vibrant, but it hasn't been updated since Dec '11, so would I just follow the same procedure for the newer ICS roms?
2) Here is the guide I used for my Fascinate (see section 4), which has a few extra steps that I notice are lacking for the Vibrant... namely installing cwm4 fixed for cm7 first, then installing THS Build 2, then flash over that with whatever ICS Rom you need.
3) Devil Kernel is what's considered best on my phone running AOKP M6... is that true as well for ICZen?
4) Since the Vibrant never got 2.3, what is the best modem to be using? On the Fascinate the EH03 (GB) stock modem is best, but I'm unsure what the deal is for the Vibrant since they never got an official GB update. Also along the same topic, Verizon has a code you can input that updates your PRL and improves reception... does T-Mobile have such a code or not?
I appreciate any and all input, as I want this to go as smoothly as possible. Thanks
You seem to have a pretty good grasp on what your doing.
From stock, install gingerbread bootloaders then go to recovery via volume rocker down and hold power button, until the logo. Might have to practice it a couple times.
Once in recovery click reinstall packages, might have to do it s couple of times. This installs your update.zip
From here I always perform wipes and flash a custom Froyo ROM. Maybe overkill but, only takes a second and I don't mind.
From here I flashed the latest CM9 nightly and on to Helly Bean.
Do your wipes in between flashes, and you should be fine.
I haven't ever heard about a T-Mobile code for tower updates, I think its automatic.
Well I didn't have to worry about bootloaders on my Fascinate since I was already on GB, so that's a bit new to me... but doing a quick google search I found this guide. Is that an accurate guide to follow? Alright so basically what you're saying is before I root at all I need to do this?
Also like I was saying earlier, he wants everything to work so I think Helly Bean is out of the question because of GPS, right? I was thinking ICZen looks the cleanest, with everything working nicely, and it's based on what I'm currently using on mine.
Can you clarify on why you're flashing a custom froyo rom? I won't mind to do that either, if it has any benefit.
Also, I checked his phone last night and it's on stock 2.2, not 2.1 if that makes any sort of difference. Thanks again
First root and get cwm recovery then flash bootloaders. The vibe never got an official GB, so that's why boot loaders are recommended. The guide you have is fine. Second the GPS on the vibrant has been notoriously hit or miss. I have a captivate, the GPS works great but my vibe couldn't get a lock to save my life.
Now as far as iczen or hellybean, you have to weigh the options:
Iczen is a great ROM and might have a better chance getting a GPS lock. IMO if you can get a lock with ICS you will probably get a lock with JB. But with ICS you have to be concerned with the EU bug. What's that you ask:
There has been an issue with people randomly looking at phone and a message saying encryption unsuccessful press to reset. If you press the button you have basically just locked up your internal SD card. If you don't press you MIGHT be able to recover it. There is a workaround if this happens, to use ext SD only but your friend will not like that.
I'm currently running hellybean on both of my devices and I love it. Like I said, cappy gps works great and my vibrant not so much. If you really want stable go with bionix as toast recommended or one of moped Ryder's ROMs . If you want to be wowed, go with hellybean.
There are some things you can try with it to get a GPS lock. The general consensus is turn on GPS, reboot, wait it out till you get an initial lock. After that locks will be quicker. I hope this helped in some way, if so hit thanks. As far as the guides etc you are good to go.
its peanut butter jelly(bean) time
That did help quite a bit, thank you. I have never even heard of that bug, do you know if that's Vibrant specific or can that happen on any of the others? I have been wanting to try Helly Bean on my Fascinate, but unfortunately my sdcard isn't very stable and I don't trust to flash anything until I can buy a new one. Honestly, I don't even think he cares much about the GPS, my original point was more along the lines of that I wanted to give him as much of a glitch-free experience as possible, so my fault for not being more specific. If Helly Bean is as stable as you're saying, then maybe I'll just do that instead then, especially after you explained that glitch. Also, since I don't have any Helly Bean experience myself, does it offer as much customization as AOKP? I've grown quite fond of all the little tweaks they include
Hellybean is pretty stable. When I did my vibrant I didn't have to use a boot loader I went straight to ICS then jellybean. If you want ICS then you may want to try aokp for his vibe its nice. If you end up trying aokp milestone 6 and have unknown baseband let me know and I'll link you to a linario build that should fix that
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
I have a complete guide to install ICS ROMs in my signature if you feel so inclined. PM me if you need any of the files or I may just host them on my Dev-Host account. I'll be out most of the day, but I can upload them later on tonight.
When I need to go back to stock and root and flash cwm I use the AIO toolbox. I just put the rom on the internal flash and then use AIO to get cwm on it from the flash custom rom option. Then cancel the file and the phone will reboot into recovery where you install packages twice and should end up in cwm.
The EU bug has hit vibrant and captivates that I know of. It seems rare though, if you think about the number of users compared to the reported number of cases of the EU bug, its a small percentage.Hellybean doesn't have nearly as much customization but it does offer theming and some launcher/lock screen tweaks. You could always use a custom launcher. There are a few other jellybean ROMs you could try. Honestly any way you go will be better than stock!
*I forgot to tell you, you will need to Odin back to stock 2.1!
its peanut butter jelly(bean) time
Yeah.. I don't think root is actually necessary to do any of this. You'll be rooted when the process is complete however. The custom ROMs come with root access.
But to elaborate on Samsgun357's last post, if you are currently on Froyo 2.2 stock, you'll need to Odin back to stock 2.1 prior to starting, because Samsung fixed the bug that allows installation of custom recovery when they released 2.2
It's simple to do, search the forums and you'll find a guide on Odining back to JFD. That's stock Eclair. If I have time in a few I'll locate it for you and post it.
There are YouTube videos about it with links to the files as well. I think djeddie1west posted a good one with links to all files needed, if they are still working links.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990
There's the link for installing GB bootloader.
Also, I am on my phone and haven't tested links, but as long as they work, near the bottom of the post you'll find the files needed to Odin the JFD files.
Eh, I just gave up and told him to go get an iPhone instead, to increase his hipster status.
Or... that's right, I'd rather be dead than own one of those ugly bricks.
You have all been extremely helpful, and I think I have more than enough to go on. I think for now I'll just throw ICZen on his phone since it's based on the rom I'm most familiar with... and when I have more experience with Helly Bean (I finally ordered a new sdcard that's on the way, so I can play with it on my own phone soon enough :good I'll just flash his again. He'll be okay with the risks mentioned so far in this post, and honestly his upgrade is coming up soon so I'm sure I'll be drooling over his S3 when that time comes.
@Woodrube That guide you made to install ICS was exactly what I was looking for, and I wish I had found it earlier so thank you for making such an excellent post.
I'll post back here with the results, thanks for all the help once again
Hello fellow transformer prime users,
I have been looking over many threads on how to update to JellyBean and have not come to the decision of whether I should update at the current moment or wait. The reason I feel uncomfortable with updating is that I soft bricked my prime when I did the .21 to .28 update, all due to my human error of not triple checking over myself. Thankfully I have superior knowledge of the android system because I have been using Android since the G1 days (yup I am not a noob, but neither am I an expert in these things, you can say that I am an intermediate power user). Fortunately I was able to unbrick using multiple methods and abd tricks that I found on these threads, and I truly thank everyone of the big guys out there for helping out though my difficult time. Although I had alot of fun in that ordeal, I surely DO NOT WANT TO GO OVER THAT HARDSHIP AGAIN (sorry but I have been emotionally scared for life).
Although it may seem that this post is question oriented I would like to note that it is mostly a plead for an update method suited for my particular setup.
On to the details:
At the current moment my prime is being used as a daily driver. It is my college life all bundled in to one awesome device.
Android version 4.0.3 ICS
It is rooted
it has IML74. US_epad-9.4.2.28.2-20120529 build
stock to the root <----get it.... its a joke
It has latest superuser
it has been backed up
Voodoo OTA root keeper shows 100%
The device is NOT UNLOCKED, it does not say that it is unlocked on start-up, ITS LOCKED
It has CWM 5.5.0.4
My first method of rooting was done though vipermods exploits
Last time I updated I just flashed the proper/suitable stock .28 build that I have now through CWM
At the current moment everything works wonderfully and I love this device.BUT I am afraid of bricking it...I have had bad dreams....BAD BAD NIGHTMARES....
So the question is...I mean comment...(sorry if this does not belong on here)...
What would be a best update method for my current setup
I thank all that help me out and apologize to the forum members and admins if this does not belong here...
I have made a video showing you my current setup youtu.be (sorry, delete this stuff, sorry) /xCQP6O1NpAY , thank you and I hope to soon be playing around with JB
I will also make a video of my update process so others with the same issue can follow my methods.
Thank you,

Thank you,

More info....
Before my .28 update with sparky's rom i had the .21 vipermod exploit....i had flashed cwm and updated my rom from the previous .18, and even before that i had root through vipermods initial root method.
I know my bootloader is locked, but how than is it posible for me to flash roms for unlocked bootloaders. The sparky rom that i flashed is supposedly for unlocked bootloaders.
I am sooooo confused....i dont want to brick my prime again.
More and more info.....
HOW I BRICKED IT BEFORE:
so i was on .21 and wanted to update to latest .28 build
I manually downloaded the stock.28 rom from asus website
I updated through icon on bottom right hand area...you know
All was going well then boooooom i got soft bricked with a bootloop
Did the popular unbrick method through abd then i found sparkys rom.
Flashed sparkys rom through cwm (i uploaded the rom through this abd command file mover thing i found on another xda forum whiles in cwm)
Flashed and installed perfectly
Ok now what should i do....unlock my device and twrp recovery it or whatever its called and then go from there?
Or just wait....i dont know where to start...and frankly i am very displeased with the amount of clarity out of the top guides out there....and all i see is a plethora of bricked devices...sad face...
Ok once again Thank You for your time and efforts.

Hey, could you please give some more information and links about the cwm you used and which popular adb unbrick method?
Weired issue...i heard about perfectly unlocked primes, about primes with locked bootloader "forever" (like my device), but never heard anything about an invisible unlock after softbrick...
Maybe somebody can figure out where "the magic" happened...

I just replied to you but my post did not go through....i spend a good hour finding stuff out for an answer....and now all gone....
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ok simple answer: I unlocked device...I think through a vipermod primetime release that had it...i think v4 unlock tool don't remember
was on .11 then on .18 then to .21 now on .28
did root with vipermod, and installed cwm in .18 or .21 dont remember
got bricked when i manually updated to .28 from download from asus site
think that there is a method of binging back primes that are bricked
using quick abd pusher...thats what i used in cwm to get sparky's rom on prime and flashed
now working
I really dont give a damn anymore...I hate xda forums right now soooooo bad. I just wasted 1 HOUR, or even more 1+ hours with a perfect reply and all gone because of the stupid forum....
sorry man
I'm done
