Recover data partition? - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi all,
This is the first time this has happened to me.. A friend of mine wanted me to root their phone for them. I got the thing rooted, installed busybox manually since Gingerbreak didn't install it for me. Rebooted the phone and all was working fine. I then downloaded the market version of CWM and was going to flash recovery, but forgot to do a backup before flashing it.
Now my problem is that after it flashed the recovery and rebooted, the data partition appears to have been wiped. He never had anything like Titanium Backup installed, and I did not do a backup in CWM before hand.
Is there any way to recover the data from the original partition or is it gone for good? All of his contacts, SMS messages, etc are gone, it's like the phone did a factory reset.
I know it was my fault for not backing it up before hand, just hoping something can be done!

Hmmm...
Do you have ad or anything?
Look via root explorer to /data see what's in there.
But now DO BACKUP!!

Just an idea to restore large data.
An idea is coming to my mind where we can use recovery instead of titanium backup to restore large amount of data.
The idea is to backup only data, android.secure folder and ext via amonRa recovery.
Now, if you are changing roms, you can try to do this thing.
After installation of the rom, restore this backup via recovery.
(If you have ext, flash dt apps2sd first and then restore.)
Don't wipe anything after restore and reboot.
See how it goes.
If all goes well, this may be a good alternative to titanium where a whole bunch of data is required to be restored.
I will also attempt this shortly.
Another important thing.
Just two hours back I flashed cm 6.6.1, flashed gapps, flashed Franco kernel 40, flashed dt apps2sd in that order without rebooting and everything went well after first reboot. I had rom, gapps, kernel and ext everything working fine. So I think there is no need to reboot in between in this case.

Nice trick, but you can only restore all apps or none. You cant select which apps you would like to restore and if any of the data gets corrupt you will lose all apps.
Hows 6.6.1 treating you ? I am using 6.5.7 which is great in terms of performance and battery.

Often, while changing roms, we think of having our current apps on the new rom.
As for 6.6.1, its going very fine. Previously I had uninstalled it due to wifi problem, but I hadn't checked it with Franco kernel.
With Franco gb kernel its all fine.

Did you try with app2sd script ?
I've once tried this but with data2sd, it didn't work. (or maybe the script doesnt succeeded at first place).
Anyway, thanks for reminding this
i believe this may also work with cwm (make a backup, wipe the usual stuff, flash the new rom, restore data.img in advanced restore). please confirm this
I think it should work. We will have to select all three data/android secure /ext one by one.

It works!
Just used this method to upgrade from mike's os beta6.5.6 to beta6.5.8 with Darktremor's A2SD.
-Booted in the cwm recovery and did a compleat backup
-Wiped everything, data/cache/dalvkin..everything
-Flashed os (didny reboot as recomended)
-Flashed new kernel
-Rebooted to check if the OS was loading (think you can skip this)
-Back to custom recovery-> backup and restore -> advance restore -> restor data and sd-ext
-Rebooted to check if the os was loading (think you can skip this)
-Back to custom recovery -> flash darktremor 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 reboot (realy took long 5min+ to load)
Tryd this a couple of times ( hence the many reboots to check if everything was ok) at the end didnt manage to make it boot with darktremor's 2.7.5.2-1 had to go with the relative new beta.
just my 2cents
Yes it works fine - with Advanced Restore
Hello,
To Switch ROMS
I have tried this twice - 1st do a nandroid backup
Wipe data/ Factory reset/ wipe cahe/ Dalvik Cache
Flash new ROM - Reboot for assurance really
Advanced Restore/choose backup/ restore data then restore cache/ reboot X 2
I find this easier than Ti Backup/ and more comprehensive.
I do not recommend ROM Manager for anything other than flashing recoveries
Thanks for reading this far

Flashing stock ROM and the going back to Cyanogen

Hello, I always find the people on this corner of xda very helpful. As usual, I think I know what I'm doing, but I'd like to check that I am proceeding in the right direction.
I've been using Mik's Cyanogen ROMs on my Optimus One. That's going well. But I need to SIM unlock my phone and I need to go back to a stock ROM to input the codes (please let me know if this is incorrect).
Before installing Mik's ROM, I performed a Nand backup. I have boot, cache, data, recovery and system img files. I think I can flash these through recovery and I should be back to stock.
Do I lose my apps and settings by doing this? Do I need to clear any caches?
What about returning to Cyanogen after I unlock my phone... Do I have to root my phone again or will I still be able to flash using recovery?
Using Clockwork, I just backed up my current ROM. I assume I will be able to restore from this later.
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
Thanks for answering my questions / clearing up my confusion.

this is correct

to revert back to stock, you must wipe data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik cache. you will lose your settings. as for your apps, you can back them up with titanium backup and restore them after you have restored your backup.
What about returning to Cyanogen after I unlock my phone... Do I have to root my phone again or will I still be able to flash using recovery?
when you restore your backup of the stock rom, you will still have root. i dont think unlocking your phone will cause you to lose root. your root access and custom recovery will still be intact
Using Clockwork, I just backed up my current ROM. I assume I will be able to restore from this later.
yes this is true
Is there anything else I should be aware of?
just to be on the safe side, please list the steps you are going to follow
Thanks for answering my questions / clearing up my confusion.
Thanks for the quick answer...
I on my sd card, I have a /clockwork directory with two subdirs. One is my original backup that I made before first installing Cyanogen. The other is the one I just made. Both contain boot, cache, data, recovery and system img files. The difference is that with my new backup the image files have an extra yaffs2 suffix: cache.img (stock) but cache.yaffs2.img (Cyanogen). Any problem here?
1. boot into recovery
2. restore stock from my sdcard using nandroid and wipe caches as you indicated
3. reboot, enter unlock code
4. reboot into recovery
5. restore current ROM from my sdcard using nandroid and again wipe the same caches
6. reinstall / restore apps (I'm not using Titanium, instead I backed up the list of installed apps)
Will I need to find and reinstall the GoogleApps (Market, etc) or will they come with the backup of my current ROM?
Pretty simple really. This make sense?

there might be a problem. what clockworkmod version did you use to make the backup of the stock rom? if i remember correctly, using cwm 3.x.x.x backs up a certain way (and also does not have the yaffs2 suffix) and using cwm 5.x.x.x backs up a different way (with the yaffs2 suffix) so backups may not be "inter"compatible (more info on that here). however, you can just flash back cwm 3.x.x.x right now (you can do it using rom manager), restore your stock rom backup, do the following steps, flash back cwm 5.x.x.x, then restore your backup
1. boot into recovery
2. restore stock from my sdcard using nandroid and wipe caches as you indicated (i recommend wipe first then restore)
3. reboot, enter unlock code
4. reboot into recovery
5. restore current ROM from my sdcard using nandroid and again wipe the same caches
(same here again, wipe first then restore)

i think you will have to flash gapps again

looks good (how sure am i? id say 80-90%. it definitely makes sense, but i have never done this before)
Good good. It's getting late so I'll tackle this tomorrow. Thanks for the detailed help... I'm glad I asked before going at it.

I followed your instructions (I downgraded Clockwork before starting) and the 10-20% chance of you being wrong came true... but in a good way
Restoring from the backup brings everything back: apps, settings, contacts, SMSs etc. So it was actually even easier than you suggested since I didn't have to use my backups at all.
Thanks again for the tips!

Yes... when I was back in stock I could access the unlock menu by entering 2945*#500# on my keypad. The SIM unlock code that I have worked fine. I haven't actually tested with another SIM card but the phone claimed to have been unlocked, so I should be good to go.

[Q] How do I retain the configuration?

Hi, I've signed up for an account quite a while ago since I was on HTC Tattoo, but this is my first post because I've gotten really desperate here but I couldn't figure out what has been wrong.
I've done searching around xda-developers and tried Googling. I have an Xperia mini pro SK17i and here's my problem:
What I've done:
1. I've unlocked its bootloader.
2. Flashed Rage Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398910).
3. Using CWM included after flashing Rage Kernel, I flashed Hybrom V6 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1373435).
4. Before this I partitioned my SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB Class 6 microSDHC for sd-ext (27.7GB of FAT32 and 4.06GB of ext2).
5. Installed Titanium Backup.
6. Yay, from Titanium Backup I could see that a2sd is enabled.
Then came the problem:
7. I POWERED OFF my device.
8. Pulled its battery out.
9. Put it back in.
10. Turned the phone back on. When it's at the homescreen, Titanium Backup is gone.
11. So, I installed Titanium Backup again. But this time, I can't see a2sd's remaining free space, means it's not enabled?
12. So, I went ahead and rebooted into recovery, reflashed the rom again, and it all goes back to step 1.
While I was doing those, I tried checking whether a2sd was enabled each time, and it seemed that it was random. Sometimes enabled, then after a reboot, it got disabled, then I reflashed again and so on.
I'm really frustrated now. Any help is really appreciated!!
Try installing Hybrom v7 now
And when ever you flash your rom everything which is inside your SD card and was associated with system files will be of no use as you have to reassign it to system after you flash your rom
To solve this, when you think you have fully working system and now you want to keep it as backup to avoid reconfiguration when you reflash your ROM then make a backup of current working ROM for this
Reboot in recovery mode of CWM
Go in backup and restore
Make a backup of your ROM and you are done !
(This backup can be found on SDCARD/clockworkmod folder)
When you want to reinastall the "Same ROM" then you can use that created backup to get back to the status where you made backup. So there is no need to reinstall software and no need to make settings again.
This backup creates MD5 check sum so it can't be used for any versions of ROM.Use it with same version of ROM.And you will get ex-sd back as you mod in before back up.
I hope you got what i said ... cause when ever you completely flash the ROM and start it freshly you will have to go to step 1 as you said and do all things again so backup is good way to avoid this frustration and problem
And because of that sd-ext will not work...
Thx for the advice.
But I still can't get a2sd to work.
I connected my device to my computer, then I via adb shell I typed
a2sd check
everything seems to be okay except that sd-ext is not mounted. :'(
What should I do to get it to work?
I managed to get a2sd working consistently.
What I did was to partition my sdcard and format it separately.
Whenever I did a wipe data/system/cache CWM would wipe and format the sd-ext partition too, because of this, upon flashing a new ROM, a2sd would not be enabled.
But now I have another problem, I would love to move dalvik-cache to sd-ext, I tried doing it with:
#a2sd cachesdreset
then it reboots my device, but it ended up in a bootloop.
What should I do next?
I found out another issue. Everytime I pulled the battery out, my Xperia mini pro would fail to mount sd-ext.
THEN I would have to first do:
# a2sd repair
then the device reboots, then:
# a2sd reinstall
then it would get a2sd back again. But this time, all of the settings for the apps on sd-ext are lost.
i don't know bro
sorry

[Help] Serious app problem after ICS alpha flash

[Solved]
Hello XDA
(Please tell me if this is the wrong forum for help)
So, I was plodding along happily with CM7 on my Optimus One, then I decided to Nandroid backup and flash a CM9 alpha ROM here.
Once I wiped user data through amon_ra recovery, I flashed it and it worked fine (except I was on old baseband, so GSM didn't work).
When I decided to Nandroid back to what I had previously however, BAD THINGS HAPPENED.
All the user apps didn't show up in the app draw. All the widgets had a problem. The CM7 theme had vanished. Even the google apps had vanished.
I tried to reflash the Market but it didn't work and was still missing.
I was able to Nandroid back to the ICS alpha rom and it worked fine.
I then tried to restore the stock LG firmware through the official updater app. It refused to boot, getting stuck at the ANDROID logo.
I then had to manually flash Clockworkmod recovery through emergency mode. I then proceeded to Nandroid to my CM7 save. Which booted, but still had the same problems. (I flashed amon_ra from there so I could use my other backups)
All the normal functions work properly eg. Camera, USB, ADB, GSM, 3G, Data, web browsing.
I also noted that everything is sitting normally in the data partition when looking through ADB, but not through File Manager, is that normal?
Help, please?
Thanks x 1000000 in advance
Titanium Backup?
Can't get it installed.
Well, it is installed, it's just unusable.
I can't get the Market so I can't try and install it.
And attempting to install it's APK with File Manager results in "Application not installed"
Okay, I seem to have figured it out, while I had this problem, my dalvik-cache was inaccessible as a folder. I deleted it in ADB and recreated it.
It was because when I wiped user data to flash ICS, it also wiped the SD-EXT partition, which my dlavik-cache was on, that was not backed up.

Flashing first ROM questions

Hello please forgive me if these questions have been answered but I'm kinda lost if my root is good or if i need to change some settings
Sprint Note 3 4.4.2
I used chainfire cf-root followed the instructions its working fine.
Installed TWRP tested boot recovery it works
Installed ROM Toolbox Pro
Titanum Backup Pro
Installed Busybox installer
My questions/concerns as I'm confused on how this will work i don't want to lost my data by mistake
When i create a backup using TWRP it seems to be saved on internal phone not my SD card, using root explorer everything is under /storage/emulated/0 and /storage/sdcard0 not extSDCard is that ok or do i need to ensure everything is saved to my SD card?
I would like to flash a ROM from freeza, but from reading it says to back up before flashing the ROM and to do wipe, tick dalvik and cache partition then flash the ROM, since i see my backup is on internal phone if i do this will i be wiping all my data and backups or just certain files that are tied to the ROM?
Once i flash a ROM all my programs and personal data will still be there?
If i want to switch ROM's I need to do the wipe, tick dalvik and cache partition Flash ROM all my personal data still there as well?

In general, when flashing a rom, you'll wipe system and data, but not the contents of your internal memory.
Thus you'll not lose your backup or your stuff (pictures, etc).
But your settings, apps, launcher setup, WiFi passwords, bluetooth pairings, email accounts, everything will be gone, and you'll have to set those up the way you like. Again. Plan on it.
The above assumes that you're on TouchWiz KitKat, which from what you've written, I'm unclear.
If you're on an AOSP rom, the steps are different.
Can you show us your about phone?

OK, got it. Definitely on stock TouchWiz KitKat.
At this point, I'd highly recommend carefully looking at the roms on the dev forum, give thanks to all, choose what's right for you. Read the OP, ask questions here before you flash, there after you've read and experienced a bit, and you'll be fine.
I highly recommend not using Titanium Backup for any restoring of anything but xml files of call logs, SMS, &c.
For all other things, just a fresh install is the wisest route.
Good luck!
