[Q] Samsung Galaxy S wifi problem cyanogen - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I'm new here and i have a problem with my wifi.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 7.1 and i never had problems with original rom.
The problem is that it makes a connection and keeps it when idling, but then when
i need to use it the connection falls away and doesn't reconnect automatically.
When i go to the wifi settings it does automatically tries to reconnect.
I found a fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1177650
and i think that one should work. I tried to install the zip but it uses an older script version. I also tried to put the files on the cyanogenmod rom and flash it all again but i also get an error.
Is there any option to get it to the newer script version so I don't get errors anymore?
Erwin

CM7.1 is old now. flash a newer version (the nightlies)
here:
Captivate: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=captivatemtd
Fascinate: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=fascinatemtd
Vibrant: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=vibrantmtd
i9000: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nightly&device=galaxysmtd
download the newest file

I always thought that the nightly builds are like the experimental builds with possibly some glitches or something.
When i flash the newest version, do i lose all the settings and stuff or will it just update some files?

They are experimental...that's what makes them better. You get all the new features in it. Nd no they shouldnt wipe any of your data. Always make a backup though !!
They usually don't have any glitches...usually just new feature.
You should start looking at I cs roms though...they now pretty much all work flawlessly.

[Q] Unusual? Can't get wi-fi or cell data on 4.1 ROM install

Hi,
We have 2 Vibrant phones. 1 is on Paranoid Android 2.54 (via stock eclair, ICS Passion, Slim Bean 2.9 & 3.0) and works perfectly.
The second one was on ICS Passion for a long time and I have finally got around to (trying LOL) to update it.
Here is where the weirdness begins - Flashed PA 2.54 no problems, flashed and booted up, but no wi-fi, well no wi-fi icon, and it can find a couple of wi-fi networks belonging to my neighbours, but won't find my network, 2 rooms away. The network is obviously all good, I am sending this from my laptop through said network.
Obviously I need an internet connection to get through the phone setup, so I power down, throw the SIM back in and boot up only to find no cell data either.
Skip the google account setup and get to the home screen to check things further and I find:
Calls in/out work, and most things are running, but wi-fi won't co-operate, and nothing in the APN list? Baseband and IMEI all look normal, too.
Try to flash Slim Bean 2.9 as I put the zip on the phone at the same time as a fallback and I get EXACTLY the same thing...
Anyone able to shed any light on what would cause this? Anything else worth trying? I'd like to avoid Odin as it honestly scares me reading all the problems people on here have with it...
At this point I've tried flashing both ROMs a few times with exactly the same results, I also can't go back to the ICS nandroid as the partition setup has changed and the restore doesn't work...
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
Cheers...
I ended up flashing a 4.2 ROM (slim 4.2 beta 1) and it made the problem go away, I'm guessing something in the 4.1 base was broken and not getting overwritten on new installs?
ROM seems pretty sorted for a beta, few minor things not working, but hopefully it gives us a clean upgrade path...
Thanks.
I had the same issue with Slim 4.2 Beta 2. If anyone has a solution other than flashing the modem, please post.
Weird. The phone I was having this problem with now has that ROM on it and is working 100%.
I have a suspicion that flashing a ROM that uses a different kernel is what fixed it for us. I guess it just overwrites/replaces more stuff?
Maybe try hellybean 4.2 and see if it makes a difference, and if it does flash back to slim 4.2 and see if the problem comes back?
I have installed slim and other ROMs but not had this issue. Currently on jellybam

The weird part is that every other Slim Bean has worked great. I'll keep my fingers crossed for beta 3.

[Q] CM10.1 "Nightlies" Don't Update Using CMUpdater

Hey guys,
I have "cm-10.1-20131006-NIGHTLY-tf201" installed on my TF201.
There have been popping up notifications on newer Nightlies [cm-10.1-20131020-NIGHTLY-tf201.zip , cm-10.1-20131028-NIGHTLY-tf201.zip ].
I tried downloading both of the newer nightlies using the CMUploader integrater into the ROM but even when it does finish the download, it says that the "MD5 Checksum failed" and the download is cancelled.
I tried finding another route and downloaded the files straight from the CM website, uploaded them into the internal memory and flash them using TWRP but to no avail. I had to reflash the nightly mentioned above to get the system going on again.
How do I solve this situation?
The nightly I have installed is pretty unstable and I think upgrading to the newer versions could probably fix some of these crashes.
Another question:
Does the CM ROM support the keyboard extension for the device? I seem to be able to type and use the mouse but there is no indication whether there are 2 batteries and how much they are charged.

[Q] How can I flash Cyaogenmod without having those crazy radio issues?

I'm sure people were getting pretty tired of hearing about the radio issues when people flashed cyanogenmod (ie, LTE worked, but no SMS, MMS, or voice calls, odin didn't fix, the only solution was to factory restore from WITHIN a TW ROM). After waiting a while for things to calm down, I'm ready to try to install Cyanogenmod again but I am naturally hesitant.
Has this issued resolved itself? I'm running rooted and unlocked MC3 with CWM installed. I heard somewhere that flashing the MJ9 radio BEFORE Cyanogenmod 10.2 / 11 fixed the problem?
I would really appreciate any input or personal experience here!
As far as I know, the issue has not resolved itself. I tried flashing the newest CM 11 a couple of days ago (I think it was the nightly build on the 22nd), and I still had the funky radio issues. However, I tried this, and it fixed all the radio issues with CM 11 (and any other Android 4.4 ROMS - I'm running Slim ROM at the moment)... Here is my post from another thread.
Hey all, I got it working (the data/network connection that is), with a little effort. Here is what I did in sequence...
1) Reflash the ORIGINAL VRALJB image via ODIN. I used the one found here. You want to make sure you get the one that replaces EVERYTHING, i.e., NOT the alternative restore.
2) I set up my phone and used it normally for about four hours. (This may or may not be necessary, I'm not entirely sure. I also rebooted the phone about five times during that time frame.)
3) I unlocked and rooted the phone via the method outlined here. After that was done, I installed CWM 6.0.4.3 via TWRP (which the unlocking process installs).
4) I then installed CM 11 and the respective Google apps. (I first did a backup, then a factory reset, then cache wipe, then dalvik wipe. The next thing I did was install CM 11, then Gapps.)
5) Restart the phone and success!

The reason why I found out that this method would work, is that I tried installing CM 11 on my dad's phone. He has had a TW ROM (Beans build to be exact) since the phone came out. And he has been running the stock VRALJB radio. With that said, I figured I would try flashing the stock ODIN files to restore my phone back to the VRALJB. (I think I was running the MJ9 prior to this) That worked, and the SlimROM has been working perfectly ever since!
[Also, if you wanted to check out SlimROM, you can find a link to it here.]
Still looking for some more feedback from users! Anyone successfully flashed CM 10.2 / CM 11 from MC3 without problems / fixed the problems?

[Q] CM 10.2, Can't Connect to Verizon Network

I have had nothing but pain and suffering since deciding to install CM 10.2 last night. I installed the latest stable version of CM 10.2.2 as well as the google apps pack and after several wipes (system, cache, data), it finally worked. The issue that I am not having is that it wont connect to the Verizon network.
I think the issue may be that in Mobile Network Settings>CDMA Subscription it is set to NV, and won't let me switch to RUIM/SIM. Another clue is that in the About Phone section, Baseband version is UNKNOWN. Any ideas?
EDIT: Ok, I updated to the latest CM version via the CM update process on the phone. looks like i am now on CM11 and i have network connectivity, though it is 1 bar of 3G. And now the google play store keeps throwing errors so i have to uninstall it.
I thought CM was a polished ROM that I could just install and go. I am now considering going with something else since I still cant get it working right.

You definitely want to be using CM 11! 10.2 is ancient at this point.
As for your problems. First, Sense based ROMs apparently show more bars for the same signal strength. To know if it is actually worse, you need to compare the numeric (db) signal strength. Second, did you also flash a kk gapps package?
I would recommend downloading the latest gapps-kk-* from http://goo.im/gapps and then in recovery do:
* factory reset
* format /system
* install cm 11 version of your choice (latest nightly or M8)
* install gapps
And see if that makes your life a little better.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. The reason i went with 10.2 is it was the latest "stable" version on CM's website. I wasn't sure what "snapshot" meant so i didnt do any of those. Then i eventually did download and flash the kk gapps but was still having issues.
I am following your steps above to start fresh again, though I was still having issue with the radio before though, so we will see if this helps.

Ordered i9300 from eBay - need help to understand what's going on

Hi guys,
I've ordered a new, unlocked i9300 from eBay, and I had some adventures with it:
I've unpacked it, inserted my SIM, powered it on, and found out that the phone always thinks that I'm roaming. Instead of trying to understand what's going on, I though: "I'll just install CyanogenMod and everything will be good".
I've installed CyanogenMod 10.2 (latest stable build), only to find out that my SIM is not being detected at all. It says that Baseband is unknown, IMEI and related are unknown as well.
After trying lots of stuff, I gave up and decided to return to stock ROM (4.3). While trying to do that, I bricked my phone, and the only thing I could do is enter Odin mode.
After reading dozens of tutorials and trying lots of stuff, I ended up flushing GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit, and that unbricked my phone.
I successfully flashed Android 4.3. This version detected my SIM, displayed the Baseband/IMEI, but it didn't connect to the cellular network. I could scan for available networks, but when I chose my network manually, it said "Selected network not available ".
I tried to flush alternative modems, but all it did is making things worse. Usually it made the phone behave like with CyanogenMod, i.e. Baseband/IMEI are unknown.
Again, after trying lots of stuff, I tried to flush Android 4.1.2. That made no change until I've stumbled on this thread. Flushing Patched_Modem_I9300XXEMG4.zip made my networking work again, and restored it to behave exactly like it did initially. Again, the phone thinks that I'm roaming all the time, but at least it works.
So currently, I have two issues:
My phone always thinks I'm roaming. Is there a fix for it?
And more important: currently, I cannot install anything other than Android 4.1.2!
Could you please shed some light on the situation? What happens with my phone? Why does it think I'm roaming? Why does the SIM work only with Patched_Modem_I9300XXEMG4? How can I make other ROMs (e.g. CyanogenMod) work?
Thanks, any help is much appreciated!

When the phone gets upgraded from 4.1 to 4.3 your efs changes from efs v1 to efs v2 sometimes this upgrade does not go smoothly (as in your case) so then you need to always use a patched modem from version mg4 onwards (not a normal one) if you flash a rom which changes the baseband to anything less than 4.3 then it will not work. You need to keep on mg4 or later to keep signal and because your efs is not fully upgraded properly you need to always use a patched modem and preferably kernel as well.
I am not sure about the roaming issue but if you try patched modem and patched kernel together that might help.Take a look here for some patched modems and kernels and remember you always need to use them >> https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list << You should also be able to use 4.3 roms as long as you use the patched files above ie baseband and kernel.
In general, It would be great if I could use CyanogenMod 10.2.
Should I proceed in the following order? Flush CM -> flush patched kernel -> flush patched modem.
Which of the patched versions should I choose?
Also, what do these versions change? What functionality was patched in these files? Can I read about it somewhere?
Thanks for the help.

No the kernel will only work for 4.3 roms not CyanogenMod roms but the patched modems will work. You can try flashing CyanogenMod then the patched modem but CyanogenMod does not include a modem so whatever modem you where on when you flashed CyanogenMod you will keep.

You mean flash not flush.
Also you should be careful to by things like this off ebay, There is a very high chance you brought the phone broken like this but did not notice straight away.
Don't hang around on 4.1.2 as you might get SDS.
Upgrade to 4.3 stock of higher using custom roms with a patched modem of mg4 or higher as stated by tallman43.
Read here for what you or the previous owner has done. Also on stock make sure your csc is correct.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289
If you cannot get it to work you need to take it in for repair. Make sure it works on 4.3 before paying.
