Hi,
My battery drains out within 10 hours when I use my phone - battery usage says simply display and voice calls. But when I install clean system (I use latest cyanogenmod), battery usage is good (lost 6% for 12 hours last night).
What would be the best approach to hunt for the app/service that drains out my battery?
Thanks
call *#*#4636#*#* , select usage statistic. Every app usage is shown in detail there.

It could have been a lot of things.
Did you reinstall all your apps after you reflashed? If you didn't then it may be one of those apps that was draining your battery. Did you calibrate your battery? Perhaps there was something wrong with your previous flash.
Alsi if your battery is draining quickly when the phone is off you could use BetterBatteryStats to try to identify what's preventing your phone from sleeping.
Thanks everyone.
I just deleted traffic counter and droidin, since those two services were the most suspicious to me.. let's see how it goes after this. I'll keep track of usage statistics and will use betterbatterystats if nothing helps, since it's commercial.
A bit on the history of the problem - it started happening about month or two ago on CM7.0.3, so I purchased a new battery (existing one was old), didn't help, so I upgraded to CM7.1.0, didn't help, then I used phone on a clean install, that was good, and now I uninstalled about 20 apps, including forementioned, let's see how it goes by the end of the day.
EDIT: Downloaded BetterBatteryStats, points finger on RemoteSMS, uninstalled so lets see what happens.
Hi,
It was definitely RemoteSMS - removed it and my battery usage normalized. What a pitty.

I am having huge issues with my battery on my galaxy s2. It drains really fast, 60% over the last 15 hours this night when the phone has been idle. This has been an issue for about a week now; I cannot seem to find a solution? I have tried various roms, wiping and doing a clean install, but the problem continues. Currently using lightening rom 3,2.
Do anyone know what can be causing this battery drain? Is the battery defective??
What apps do you have installed?

That is quite a drain I can see there. The drain might be caused by having too many widgets or having too many applications open. If you plan to put it on standby, do close those apps that are not important to you.
Have you tried rebooting?
I have a stock lightening rom 3,2. no apps installed, except titanium backup pro and opera mobile. I have frozen all kinds of stuff in titanium to try find the cultprit, but without success. As you see, no apps except andoid OS is running. Same drain on villainrom, lightening. Don't know what can be causing the error. Is there some way to check if the phone or the battery it self is to blame?
Try with screen on - normally I think that should run for 6 hours or so. Using that as a reference, you can check to see if the energy stored in the battery is normal. It doesn't look like your OS is staying overly active to me.
Hi bjorninge,
Every time after you flash a new ROM you should calibrate your battery.
Get the app "battery calibration" from the market and follow instructions and please report back whether you can achieve better performance.
Cheers,

I have a similar issue, as was the same with my captivate. I have stock ROM on my GS2 though, the way I got it out of the box pretty much. Android OS takes up most of the battery usage. I don't know what it is. Widgets updating constantly? The constant syncing from Gmail/push email?
Well that's surprising! Awake and Screen On bar is quite low and totally synchronized, yet 60% drain, now I gotta say it's weird.

Tried calibrating the battery, but it doesn't seem to help too much

Unfortunately, I have the same issue as you've described above. I am running on stock KE2 kernel and the battery drain is quite a lot. The 'Android OS' is always consuming a lot of processor time on standby mode.
This needs to be fixed A.S.A.P.!
Download and install the app BetterBatteryStats from Android section, it is a very useful app which will show what Awaking the device from deep sleep and processes too. For me, it was the damn Latitude stuff going on background and wasn't letting the device to go to deep sleep.

Thanks for the tip. I have downloaded the app now. what spesifically should I look for?
You just look under 'Wakelocks' and you will know what apps are causing the Awake, then you could take further steps.
Regards.
Would be great if you could look at the screenshot and tell me if something is wrong. Also, after the battery calibration, I've "only" lost 26% the last 7 hours mostly idling. I don't see anything abnormal in the screenshot I provided :/
Well nothing is wrong imo as everything is very low. You should check those which are using more than 10 mins Wakelock, some seconds doesn't matter actually. And you can post any query further to the original thread of this app, here,

OK, So I'm now back to 12% battery usage (from 100% to 88%) with 17 hours and 30 mins on battery, which IMO is normal.
What did I do? Well, I removed the battery and put the rest of the phone into the stove for an hour on 50-60 degreed celsius. My 98% android OS usage is gone and the battery works as normal .I also had problems with the phone constantly going into "car mode" which is now gone.
I got some tips around the internet that my issues were all related to moisture on the inside of the phone.
Hello everyone. I am running the original, rooted stock rom (45.31.0.MB860.Retail.en.GB).
Since a week or so I notice a huge battery drain. Before that I was able to use the phone for a working day (07:30 - 23:00) and put it back to charge with still 10 - 20 % battery life remaining.
However, now the phone is only able to survive 07:30 - 17:00 +- 1 hour.
I did not introduce new software on it.
BatteryCalibration reports ~4180mV @ 100% charge. It looks quite good for a 1 year old battery, isn't it?
The stock battery usage tool reports the usual top drainers when everything should be fine (phone idle 45%, display 22%, com.motorola.contacts.data 9%, Cell standby 9%, ..).
I am trying BetterBatteryStats. It reports as major kernel wake lockers PowerManagerService (78%), dhd_wake_lock (21%) and as major partial wakelockers PingProcessor(51) (43%), com.motorola.blur.service.sync.engine.wakelock.notification (20%), EasPushPrc:51 (12.6%). I have no clue whether one of these is unusual or not.
Has anybody ever experienced something like this? I am missing 5 hours of usage +10-20% charge here
Cheers
install a program like spare parts and check out if there is a app which causes this drain

Spare Parts (+) does the same job as the other beforementioned tools (stock battery usage in particular). Thanks for the reply, by the way!
It turned out to be a software problem (bug?). I performed a factory data reset and everything is back to normal now.
The funny thing is that I am using the same applications as before the reset.
The attached screenshots show the battery state with light usage (two activesync accounts / gtalk, WI-FI always on, some twitter usage).
I am satisfied :good:
I'm trying to assist a non-technically inclined friend to troubleshoot her battery life issues. She's on a stock JB Vodafone ROM, and she lives a long way away, so me just going to see her and rooting the phone is a no-no.
Her battery dropped from 99% - 47% overnight, with the main culprits being android system, followed by device idle and cell standby quite a long way behind. The phone had wifi and mobile data switched off during this period.
I know android system is an umbrella for all sorts of processes that go on in the background, but since she isn't rooted I can't use Better Battery Stats to drill down and try and find the cause of her wakelocks. She doesn't have many apps installed at all, mainly just what came with the phone.
Is there some general stuff that I can do to try and eliminate any obvious causes of this battery drain? Any suggestions at all would be welcomed

Install gsam from play and let it run over night. Use it to inspect apps, but then toggle the view from battery drain to number of times waking device. Typical culprits are sync with numerous accounts and location services. Google Now has been know to beat up location services. Next install air push detector and remove any apps it detects.
Hope this helps.

When I upgraded my phone to JB i had to charge my phone twice a day, so I decided to do a factory data reset and now my battery life is about 20 hours, I'm installing one by one all the apps that I had and until now I haven't had that problem anymore.
You could tell her to do the same, and let me know if it worked. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem, but on ICS. I figured that Fast Dormancy was the culprit, keeping my phone awake for almost half the time it was out of charger. It solved itself on Jelly Bean, but I read a tip somewhere that might help.
1. Remove battery for about a minute. Re-insert battery.
2. When phone is fully charged, ONLY remove it from charger when screen is on and phone unlocked. If not, then remove battery and start over.
Dont know if this helps, but give it a try. Worth a shot. If not, factory reset is an option. Better Battery Stats is also good for checking wich processes keep the phone awake.

On idle, GSam battery monitor reports I have 55 minutes of estimated battery life remaining on 24% charge. But that's the end of the story. Perhaps you could spare a few minutes and hear out a strange tale.
When I first got my LG Optimus L9 about two weeks ago, I was amazed by the estimated battery life of 3 days on standby. Then the number started decreasing to about 1 day on standby, to now 4 hours. I've tried everything, from turning off location services to stopping synchronization with my Google account to uninstalling updates to every application you could think of. I am at my wit's end now. The last option available to me will be a hard reset, although I am trying to avoid one because I will lose all my application data. Yes, the data may be synchronized with my Google account, but should the problem lie in there, I will be facing the same meager battery life as before once I re-download those applications and restore my data.
And then I read someone else on the forum still has 66% battery charge after 3 days of use. What.
Tomorrow I will take a snapshot of battery usage on a full day with GSam battery monitor. I fear the results will be ambiguous and unhelpful.
Odp: Serious Battery Drain Problems [P769]
Do factory reset, if wouldn't help send it to service. I think it's a hardware problem.
Our lg have a backup program built in so you can after reset restore every app.

Okay, I thought there was a false alarm but now the battery life is still sort of low. I am getting 20 hours with almost no usage at all, except for waking the phone to check the time and a brief 20 minute Temple Run. Why LG, WHY?!?!
Hey Guys,
since a longer while (1-2 months?) my S7 is incredible bad on battery.
In the past when it was new, I disconnected it at 7:30 and went to bed with 60% battery left.
So by today / the last time, sometimes it goes down 10% in an hour - without heavy usage!
I really tried whatever I found here at XDA / Google.
Finally I used wakelock detector - there is one version that still works (should be 2.0.1) - it only works with a little help after every reboot (ADB TCPIP 5555) but it does a nice job.
The result is, it has about 45% awake time - while yesterday after 6-8h it showed about 4500 times awake triggering by the google app. (Whatsapp made in the same time about 50)
I know - Google Now is a battery killer, but honestly I am using it since it came out and it newer performed as bad as now!
I already tried to delete all data from Google Now (cache and user data), which fixes it a little until I open it and configure it again to work.
So actually I disabled it, but this is not really what I want to do - I'd like to go back to where it was before. No idea how - in my opinion, I have not changed any setting significantly. I using location history since years now and never experienced such kind of problems.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Maeffjus
Do you have always on Display? Check through samsung's own Smart Manger to see power hunger app.
Also location always drain battery, you might want to consider Google's accurate location or completely turn off Gps
