When I ask how is the sound, I mean how loud is it? I left the EVO 3d for the photon and the photon is A LOT louder when played through the headphones Jack. Where as the EVO 3d seemed as though it wasn't as loud.
I will be buying this phone today but I will need the sound tone as loud as my ipod since this will be my main source for music now that I have Google music set up but the photon is as loud as my ipod if not louder wwhen played through headphones and in my car.

I can't say much about the sound while using the headphones since I've only done it a few times. It sounded loud enough to me. But I use this as my music player in my car all of the time. I have a fairly decent sound system in my car and can't turn this up all the way because it is so strong. I usually have it a couple of clicks below max, and I still get amazing sound out of it.

I can't speak to the phone's performance for car audio but the head phone experience makes this a phone a top contender, in my opinion.
I switched from the EVO 3D, and the difference is laughable when using head phones. People have said the Beats Audio experience is just bass heavy but I've noticed some good clarity in the highs as well.
Only draw back is you'll have to load your audio on the SIM card instead of using streaming services (Spotify, etc.). I don't think Beats currently kicks in with those.
It is much louder than my 3D was.

Take this as a caveat as I do not own the phone but I've been playing with phones for the last 2 months to figure out which one to buy - yea I over do it
-
The clarity on the razr is a wee bit better; the rezound is a lot louder. The photon is extermely good - maybe better than the razr (hard to tell since i could not compare them side by side) but the photon was better than the epic touch in terms of clarity.
-
The rezound is loud and 'clear' enough for me. With ear buds (I used kilips s2 to test) the rezound was extermely good; as good or better than the razr.
-
The evo-3d was a dog in many ways.
-
If I were you I would do what I did; go by verizon - plug in your earphones and test
-
The photon is a really nice phone (i really wanted an oled display; but I think - about 90% sure) I will go with the rezound over the epic touch, razr or gnexus. Just a trade off of pros/cons across the various phones. The big negative of the rezound for me is the dispaly visiblity outside. It is a lot better than the evo-3d but kind fo sucks comapre to the other phones i listed above.

If you want it to sound really good, make sure you get a good auxiliary cable for it. The best I've found (and I've tested way too many) is Auvio Stereo Audio Cable. A bunch of places have it, like Radio Shack or Best Buy. They're extremely tough (they have a braided wrap around the cord), sound amazing, and have a gold coating to ensure the sound is clear with no interference. They also seem to work with the stock music player using the Beats enhancer. Plus if you download the DSP apk and install it on your phone, you'll have even more ways to push more sound out of this.

+1 for monoprice. Only place to buy cables.
I edited my original post. It's Auvio, not Audvio. But anyway, they're only $15 for those cables. The best I've found and not what I would call expensive.

Beats only works in the HTC music player and HTC video player. Ive read reviews, even watched review videos from real reviewers that discuss the audio coming from the speaker as sounding great because of Beats.
read here for explanation:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/11/15/beats-audio-stock-music-video-apps/
I just want this to be clear for people who may be trying out the phone and expecting to hear amazing sound and being disappointed in Beats and the Phone.
Hope this helps
Once/if the phone is rooted would there be a way to manually turn it on regardless? There was a dev that included beats into an incredible S ROM and it seemed to work whenever you wanted it too, even regardless of headphone brand; i think.
Fyi it doesn't matter what brand headphones are...beats sstill works...

Glad they work with any headphones. I love the white ones that came with my iPod. Just kidding. I have a couple pairs of Bose that I really like so I think I'll sell the beats ones.
I like my SkullCandy headphones better than the Beats! Glad it will work, however, I use Google Music. Not trying to bog my phone down with unneeded used space! Thanks for the clarification though!
Personally I wish HTC would offer s beats free version of the Rezound for 100 bucks less.

Yeah those headphones are going on eBay. I would be happy with $50 for them since I consider them a bonus since the Razr is also $299
I wish I could get the beats to work with google music or with my Motorola SD-10HD bluetooth headphones.
i always used cheap jbuds from amazon for 10 bucsk..loved them, and the funny thing is i'm a total audiophile/musician, but when it comes to earbuds, i don't spend money on them because i'd rather use actual headphones
so getthing these beats for free with it was a nice little changeup, i actually REALLY like how they sound with beats audio turned on.
I just looked on eBay an I founds these ear buds going for over 100$ in some auctions. That's crazy. No wonder full retail is so much for this phone

I know I am definitely putting mine up.
Beats as a sound enhancer is interesting. It boosts bass frequencies, seemingly cranks up the overall gain of the signal (Heavy limiting... a little too much IMO), and puts a little extra emphasis on the top end (highs).
The Beats earbuds seems to color the sound in a similar fashion (save the signal boost, of course...). This is actually a problem because the effect is doubled, effectively over-coloring the sound. The result is unnatural and fatiguing to the ear. The easy test is to try it without beats enabled while using the beats earbuds. Sounds pretty decent, but these aren't exactly top-shelf buds.
The other option is to use Beats Audio with really nice earbuds. I'll bet that will sound nice. I've got some Phonak Audeo earbuds that I use for in-ear stage monitoring with my 80s band. Maybe I'll bust them out and do a shootout with the beats buds. Having heard both sets of buds with music, I have no doubt the Phonaks will sound better. But I'm curious about how they'll respond to the Beats Audio effect.
Hey has anybody else noticed audio noise on the line when music is NOT playing? I get electrical noise when it's hooked up to my truck's audio system, with the audible frequency of the noise changing as the engine's RPMs do. Grounding issue? It never did that with my Incredible.
On my old Incredible, I had NilsP's Buisness Gingersense 3.5 ROM on it, and it had Beats Audio capability as well. With Beats enabled on the Incredible, the bass boost and crisp clean treble sounds were quite nice, but I don't think the Incredible had the hardware to do all the signal boosting like we get with the Rezound. The sound of Beats enabled on my Incredbile would've satisfied an audiophile. It was fantastic. Jury is still out for me re: beats on the Rezound. So far, the Rezound's Beats audio feels just a bit too in-your-face.
Think I'm gonna throw mine on too. Never use ear buds. Just an fm transmitter in my car.

sadly, blue tooth isn't really intended to be used for music.. at least not current versions of bluetooth up to 3.0(which is what the rezound uses). apparently though, bluetooth 4.0 will be better structured for music. but then again, that does you no good if you have a rezound.
Is that why there's a 1-2 second delay in the music when i change tracks? lol
I've had the OG droid, thunderbolt, and now the rezound... they all have that 1-2 second delay in sound from the device to sound in my car. I was beginning to think it's my car's bluetooth that is the issue.

It's supposed to be in your face. Think about Dr. Dre and the Genre he has dominated. Beats is what it is meant to be. I remember wearing a head band around the outside of my headphones to get the speakers closer to my ears and seal out ambient noise. Beats make the 808 kick like the booming systems in the truncks of the Jeeps of my youth. It's not audiophile but it is what it is and the people like it, and you can turn it off if you don't like it.

How does everyone feel about the sound quality? BEATS rolleyes sounds ok, a bit "overblown."
The real issue, is that compared to my iPhone 4s; the rezound doesn't sound as good. It sounds better than my GS2, but I honestly feel like the 4s has better sound. Anyone else have any input?
I'm using Shure SE215s right now, they sound much better than the beats headphones or the Apple In-ear ones I have.
I think it may depend on the type of Music you listen to man. I listen to mostly rock/hard rock and both the Beats and SkullCandy buds I have sound awesome on the phone! If you install another EQ, I found using the HTC Music app it will screw with Beats. You can only use the alternate EQ outside of HTC Music, like in Google Music, etc. My phone sounded like absolute **** on HTC Music with both Beats and the other EQ on at the same time. Since most other EQ's run in the background, I didn't realize what was going on and almost got pissed off.
I listen to all sorts of stuff. I was lying in bed last night with three sets of headphones, and iPhone 4s, and my rezound. Comparing all sorts of stuff. The same parts of the same track, beats on/off, etc.
No extra equalizer on either.
I can only compare it to my iPod from 2005 and first gen zune but I think it sounds much better, honestly. I listen to rock only, though. I think the ear buds are pretty nice. I never really use earbuds because I use over the head cans for recording etc, but I think these sound pretty good on here!

Thats kind of my point, I wouldn't say the rezound sounds "bad" by any means. It sounds quite good actually! It sounds better than my GS2.

When you're stating your thoughts, you should state at the minimum:
App you were using to play music
Beats on or off or other EQ etc...
What you were listening on
I want to know how it sounds when connected to a car or home theater system. My thunderbolt sounds just fine with headphones but connect it to a car or HT system and there is quite a bit of hiss included with the audio. This has persisted over multiple roms, kernels, and apps. I imagine the hiss is still there with headphones as well but the volume is less when using headphones. When connected to an external amplifier, the volume is maxed just to get a reasonable signal to the other device.

I stated all that? I tried apple in ear, beats that came with the rezound, and my shure SE215s.
I tried beats On and Off, that was part of my first post.
Just using the standard HTC music app and the standard iphone music app.
I use my rezound to listen to audiobooks on my long commute hooked up to the car, i'm actually not into car audio at all, so I wont' be any help there. I don't notice any kind of hiss with the rezound, I definitely had it with the garbage Bionic. I usually keep the rezound a notch below max and compensate with the car volume.
My Rezound has weak audio threw the speaker... not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. Choppy, distorted and low, but it might be because of the type of music. Most of my music has a lot of bass.
The reason other EQs sound bad w/ BA enabled is because BA when on is a custom EQ setting. In other words you shouldn't mix 2 EQ settings together, BA(beats audio) is simply a EQ profile made by HTC or Beats.
what ace said. if someones using Eq with beats, then sigh lol...
but i don't have an iphone4s to try out, so i don't have a comparison..all i've got is a 6 year old ipod that isn't even a touch lol

'call quality' is comparable to the Incredible 2(and definitely better then the Thunderbolt), especially when using Skype.
'sound quality', not really an improvement per se, just they add in a custom 'Beats' EQ to the stock player to try and awe people.
all beats is is a custom EQ setting with more emphasis on lows + you can't even adjust the EQ to your liking. the headphones are ok for being throw ins, but the Bose headphones for around the same price have a bit better clarity and the bass response is a bit better to(just that the dres hit a tad harder).
I'm not trying to put down the phone(heck I bought one) or anything... it does have a really nice screen and performs slightly better then an overclocked Thunderbolt(probably due to Google doing a poor job with the dual-core architecture).... but if you bought/want this phone just because of the whole "Beats By Dre" bit, then you've been had sucka!
p.s. btw, the one thing Apple has done with pure excellence is iphone/ipod EQ. probably the best out there period.
i believe i read somewhere the beats eq is an active eq that constantly adjusts to compensate for frequency loss etc. if so, that's a nice feature.
I don't care who invented beats anyways, I love Monster's products, and this is one of them, lol. People are under the perception this is a Dr. Dre owned and operated business, wrong. It's just the branding, and like the above said, to awe people.

The external speaker on my Incredible sounded louder than the one on my Rezound, although through the beats headphones music sounds great. At times it's a little too bass heavy for me because I listen to a lot of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and the bass drum and detuned bass guitar over power the guitars and vocals.

I had a thunderbolt before this and I hook my phone up through AUX input in my truck EVERY time I drive it. The quality of sound that comes from the rezound is light years ahead of my thunderbolt. Like its a night and day difference, even in pandora the sound quality is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better. I never had the hiss you speak of but I the sound was just super low compared to this phone. Yesterday we had my phone and an iphone4 hooked up through the AUX port in 2 different cars and it didn't matter what we played it sounded better on mine. I will say that the other two guys with me preferred the Power amp app over the stock music player with beats.

I'd say either another for the Sennheiser CX 300 II's or a close second the Skullcandy Titan's. Skullcandy gets a bad wrap as they have been known to have crappier quality stuff compared to most but if you take care of them properly you can't deny the sound is great in these.
I find the Titan's work better with a ROM w/ Beat's Audio. The extra bass boost is definitely heard.
Both can be gotten for about 30-40$ average.
If you are looking for ear buds I would highly recommend the Klipsch Image S4. I have them and they sound amazing I found a cheap set on eBay for half of what the retail for!
For listening to music on the move, I like headphones like the basic ear headphones that rest in your ear but don't stick all the way into it, but it's hard to find good quality ones if I'm honest. So I was delighted to find out that I got headphones with my EVO 3D that are actually somewhat decent, and they're the ones I use.
I just
bought a pair of Soul by Ludacris SL99's yesterday...Don't let the name fool you, these are the best sounding earbuds I have ever heard. The mids and highs are all crisp and clear and the bass is powerful but not overwhelming..I listen to everything from country to rock to rap/RnB/hip hop..Everything sounds amazing.
I just went into the Sprint store today, traded in my OG Evo, and paid $155 for the phone, out the door.
However, while I was in there, they were pushing the Beats headphones a bit. Especially because the sound quality is supposed to be "amazing" using the headphones.
I decided not to grab them, but the iPhone comes with the headphones that you can also use to talk to people on the phone with. Anyone find anything similar, that aren't $100?
Only $100 for Beats-branded headphones? It's a fire sale!
Kudos to you on not paying about 90% mark-up for the label. (Don't they also sport a Monster logo for the cable?)

Yes. Those I can get behind. Klipsch, Sennheiser, maybe even Shure. Do those S4i's work with the LTE? I thought that sometimes products intended for Apple devices have the contacts switched around on the TRRS tips.
What I'd like is a pair of exercise-resistant bluetooth headphones. I know Jabra has some, I'm still debating those vs. some lower-cost options. Just something solid that I can wear running to hear my music and audio cues, and that I could use as a hands-free headset. But I suppose that's another topic.
I have a pair of the Beats Tour earbuds with the in-line mic. I also own a pair of the S4i Klipsch. Quick review. The Beats sound fine when paired with a device that has the Beats audio software. They sound great when plugged into the Evo4GLTE. Now take same pair of Beats and plug into my iPod Touch and/or Classic and they sound like garbage. Regardless of what I have the iPod's EQ set to. Now the S4i's sound awesome when plugged into any of the devices. Only downside is the in-line mic isn't all that great. People always complain of excessive background noise, even when I'm in a quiet place. The mic on the Beats does a better job of blocking the outside noises & isolating your voice while on a call. The Beats are wayyyyy over priced and over hyped IMO. Now I have listened to a pair of the Beats Detox and they sounded good but I really don't have any other over-the-ear headphones to compare them too. I would hope with a $500 price tag they would be great.

See, now I feel bad, because I was just going to make a crack about how the Beats products are the new SkullCandy's. Just re-branded products with fancy colors. I met somebody with a pair of SkullCandy headphones that were exactly like my Sony headphones, just with Jamaican coloration versus my silver and black style. At least they sounded alright (mine were better, IMHO, for some reason) but they cost twice as much as mine did.
Anyway. It would be cool if there was a way to force the LTE's ambient mic to stay on during a headset call, so it could cancel out ambient noise the same way the onboard voice mic does. I have no idea if that would work or not.

Nice, I've looked at those. Good to know you like them. I'd prefer stand-alone earpieces, but I guess if they're wireless it's about the same thing.
I have a pair of Solo HD's but I havent tested them with the phone yet. I dont really listen to music on my phone so I havent gotten around to it.
questions go here....
I have these Audio-Technica headphones (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technic...KR8E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338762494&sr=8-1) and so far they have been great.
I'm close to 4 years with them and traveled around the world with them. The best noise cancelling I've heard (you can't hear a thing on an Airplane, Train or Car) and they are extremely durable: been to Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan with them and they have come back alive and working.
so... one of the main reasons i got this phone is for the beats... while it is shiipping i would love to know if there is any chance a few questions could be answered.
does beats only work on/get full richness from beats head/earphones?
how do you know if it is working?
does beats also affect speaker quality?
and if the first question is correct, is this because of the beats audio engine is already installed, or is there another reason?
any helpful answers will be met with a thanks i guess
Only on headphones and a beats symbol will show in note bar

I can't speak for the full richness of beats head/earphones, because I have only ever used my cheap $9 ones or the AUX jack in my car.
I asked myself the same question "How do i know it's working," when you plug in an AUX Jack, A small red b (circled) will show up in the notifications bar. What i did was plugged my headphones/car stereo system into my phone, and played some music and turned beats audio on, then off again and i did notice a nice difference in the sound. (See attached Picture)
You can tell if it is working my turning that option in the notification bar on/off and noticing the difference.
Speaker quality is not effected by Beats unfortunately, but the speaker itself is loud and great

If you root, I HIGHLY suggest you install the DSP Manager: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017647
You can use it along or, like me, with Beats audio for the best sound ever out of my Skullcandy earbuds. On some songs, I can literally feel the bass vibrating my forehead.

PLEASE do research into different headphones before jumping into the "fashion headphones" like beats. klipsch headphones are okay depending on what you get i would recommend like sennhiser .... audiotechnica ...V-moda .... koss what exactly are you looking for ? a bass heavy headphone ? or something that has more of a audiophile approach or just some random 19.99 headphones ?

I prefer Etymotic myself.
Monster turbine copper pros, are the ones I use for in ear.
For over ear, I use beats pros. The beats pro's with the dna's extra amp kicks ass.
If you havent used the pros, please don't knock it.

Not an fanboi, i don't like the studio or solo's.
Studio's gave me an artificial sound I didn't like. Too much dynamic range.
Haven't tried the v moda, can't comment on them, but I do know alot of counterfeit beats going around, and everytime I let people here my pros, who bought the bootlegs are impressed. Not saying you got the bootleg Johnson's , just saying

If you really want some good SQ, and have high bitrate (320kbps+) or flac/other lossless formats, download neutron music player...by far the best SQ I've heard out of a cellphone when paired with the dedicated headphone amp. I turn the beats dsp off and set this up and its great. Currently using westone 4's and etymotic er4p. Never tried over the ears, I prefer in ear. I do use the beats dsp when playing slacker radio. It does muddy up the mids a slight bit, but seems to me to pick up both ends of the spectrum and bring the soundstage just a bit more forward.

+1 on neutron player, very in-depth music player
I forgot I purchased it a while ago, going to give it a spin.
How are the westons compared to the turbine coppers?

Not sure, I've never tried them. I also have a pair of Shure SE215's, which are single driver. Obviously not going to be as good as the turbines driver, but I seem to prefer multiple armature in-ears versus single. I feel like the details are a bit better seperated, yet still blended well.

something with really clear and crisp sound. the bass doesnt need to be explosive XD but i do like to be able to hear a backgroung track and percussion as much as the vocals (i'm a drummer ) and yes you could definitely call me an audiophile lol
