Resize icons on home screen? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Is there a way to make the icons on the home screen bigger? I'm currently using go launcher.

Found the setting to resize icons.
Sent from my rooted Nook Tablet.

Can you post what you did/where you found the setting to resize icons? Thanks!

^ In Go Launcher go to Prefs/Visual Settings/Icons. Under icon size, you can change between Default/Large/Custom Size. (Custom size up to 85, seems to require futzing with the grid size under screen settings to make larger icon sizes fit. Stock icons will also start to look blurry pretty quickly.)
Here's the caveat: it seems that if you make a settings change above, and hit the 'Back' button at the top, the change won't be applied. Ditto if you hit the 'n' button. Use the arrow back button on the status bar at bottom, and then the change should stick.

Thanks for the info!

Yup you must click save or the settings won't get applied. On the upside if you mess up you can just click back and any changes since you last clicked save won't be applied

seems if you go over the 52-54 range it will start to get distorted, and if you go higher the labels will not show up under the icons.

I feel lost. I bring up Prefs in Go Launcher and it goes down hill from there. I have white lettering on pale gray so I have to click each option on that page to see what it is. The page it goes to is fine black font. However even checking each of the white font option I can not find "Visual Settings/Icons". Would you have any clue as to what I am doing wrong? BTW un-rooted, with microSD. Thanks for the help.

Are you using GoLauncher EX version 2.69? If not, sideload it from HERE.
The first prefs menu in GLEX has white on gray menus, but they aren't nearly as unreadable as you describe. Here's a screencap of what I'm seeing:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The very first item should be Visual Settings.
I'm guessing you're possibly using an older/different version? (I think there's GoLauncher, GoLauncherEX, and now the 'tab' version as well. I'd recommend sticking with GoLauncher EX 2.xx)
Not being rooted, I don't think there's much you can do about the white menu problem for now. (I find that it's bearable when its gray on white as in the screen cap, but white on white is when it gets difficult.)

Thank you zaptoons that was the problem I didn't have the newest version!! Amazing how much better stuff works when you have the same version and instructions are given for. lol I appreciate your help.

[REQ/Q]Transparent or No Icon... Icon

Is there a way to have no Icon over apps on the desktop? I know I could make lettered Icons and choose to have no "labels", but I was wondering if it were possible to have no icon or transparent icons w/ labels showing.
Thanks in advance.
Use a blank png file as the icon via better cut
I did transparent icons and a custom wallpaper so that the image itself (which has 5 peoples faces at the bottom where thee dock is...) Ended up being where the icons are... So I still knew where my app shortcuts were

Mr. Moonrock-man-him-sir, would you mind sharing a screenshot? I completely understand your suggestion, but I'm interested in your artistic vision and what you've created. Always looking for ideas.

Each of the guys' faces have a clear png icon over them -- linking to phone, contacts, app drawer, web and messages. I've got icon labels turned off and wallpaper scrolling turned off (so it doesn't move the image when I scroll to a different screen, as then the icons would be off of the "guide" of the guys' faces on the dock on another screen) -- No other icons are on the main screen, I've got them all on other screens.
I did this back in the day on my iPhone when I had it as well, so I just yanked the idea from that and re-created the wallpaper to fit the correct resolution. (Note: the wallpaper image itself is larger and has blank blue bars on each side, as otherwise it'd be cropped when applying it like all other wallpapers)
Woah that's pretty! Now if I only didn't change my wallpaper often and with things that don't have objects I can use for shortcuts, THIS would be perfect. Very nice moonrock.

Welcome! It does take some dedication and/or real love of that main screen wallpaper to give up the shortcuts/widgets/etc from your main screen in order to do this
I remember on my iPhone i hid a few other blank icons in the top corners for various things that I *really* wanted on the main screen so they were still easily accessible.
Thanks for sharing moonrock! That is the same idea, minus the NKOTB, . Still searching for some good wallpapers. Again, great work!
Yeah, kinda assumed nobody would want my wallpaper around here
However, in case you want it (even for a guide or something) it is here:

Have you tried another Launcher? ADW Launcher EX is working awesome and you can choose the size of the desktop icons and how many show up on the screen.

ADW is my preferred launcher as well, even lets you backup your settings/desktop which is very nice. Search for "wallpaper" in the Nook Color forums to find fixes for that--QuickPic or whatever it's called helped me a lot and made the whole process much smoother. Also, opt for .png files (convert them if you have to) as they scale better. Make sure to format the backgrounds to the appropriate resolution.
Also maybe check your build.prop and see if your LCD Density is off. Have you altered it?
Your abrasive approach to the problem lightened my day
Something must be off on your NC, because I am using Zeam and Fancy Pro ... and it looks phenomenal.
I would uninstall and reinstall both, reboot and see what you get.
Could you post a pic perhaps? Hold down the "n" button and quickly press "-" (minus key for Volume).

Wallpaper Set & Save in the market will help with some image quality problems. Not sure what problems you've had with JPG images, you mention scaling, so maybe that's why I haven't had any problems since all the JPGs I use look phenomenal, but are sized correctly at 1200x1024.
I have the Zeam launcher and it works like a charm. I used pretty much all the launchers and finally settled down on Zeam because it lets me do the most customization (especially the dock). Combined with Super Keys and Apps Organizer, it gives the best flexibility IMHO.
Try using the stock launcher to set the wall paper & then switch back to Zeam. That works for me. Zeam seems to zoom the wallpaper too much.
Cheers,
kev
Finally got this working with high rez backgrounds
I also was having nothing but problems with this, no matter what I tried I would always get blurred/zoomed in backgrounds. Finally, I found the application QuickPic by alensw.com which did the trick (search for QuickPic in the marketplace).
Use it to navigate to the image you want to use as a background, tap the down arrow in the upper right (tap the screen if it doesn't show), and select the option "Set As" and the next menu select "QuickPic Wallpaper" and then adjust the box to fit what you desire and press the "save" icon on the upper right. This will take a moment, and when its done you can exit the application and enjoy your high res background.
VTL launcher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046302
its based on adw but its made more for tablets! try it
I use Zeam and QuickPic and Wallpaper Changer but what made my wallpapers look right was resizing to 750h x 1024w. Now they look good no matter how I set them. I don't know about the widgets though.
Crop wallpapers from the market did the trick for me. I'll post my settings for it when I get to work:

hey I read this yesterday and forgot to post. I recommend using ADW EX and download free from the market an app called WallpaperCASA. I had the same nasty gradient blocky problem you did for wallpapers and everything. ADW EX actually does some things for mdpi devices to make them look like nicer HDPI devices. give it a try
Zeam actually did the best job making my wallpapers look good. You need to check the "manage wallpaper internally" option under settings. The image still gets cropped a little but it is significantly better than any of the other launchers mentioned. ADW, VTL and LPP made the papers look terrible in landscape mode. Not sure how it compares to some of the market apps others have suggested.

[Q] Where is the best place to find ICONS? + 1 more question

I use the Seraphim First Flight by the Collective (best ROM ever, reprezent!) and it uses Apex launcher.
I noticed that you can replace the dock icons so I just need to find the best place to find icon images. What resolution should I pick and what extension? (jpg, png?)
+ 1 question
I use the dedicated search button all the time (which launches the google search, I believe) but unfortunately, you have to remember the exact name of the app in order to do a search for it to show on the list.
Example: Let us say I will search for "Tapatalk"
When I hit the search button and type Tapa .. it will already show up Tapatalk on the result list.
However, when I typed "talk" it will not show it. So it means that you have to know/remember the first letters of the word in order to have good list result.
Is there a plugin or setting in search that would make searching smarter?
Thanks!

If you like free, minimalist icons that you can customize to any color, try the MetroStation icon pack in the market. The icons look like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Until I started using those, I was using icon packs from Sonny Sekhon, just search his name in the market. they cost a buck I think for each theme you want, but they look really nice and include like 560 or so icons with each theme, do most common apps are all included. Here is a screen shot with a few examples of the three packs of his that I have bought:
I don't know of anything to solve your second problem though.
Edit: forgot to say how to use MetroStation icons. You have to open their app, select the icon you want to use, them out will bring up a color picker. Select the color you want, them save it. Then go about switching the icon of the app you want by long pressing, then releasing, then hit edit, then click on the icon in the popup, then select gallery, then find the folder with the icons in them. Drag the size out fully and hit save. Every time you open metrostation again it will save your previous color, which makes it easy to make all of your icons the same color.
Edit 2: Bored, so I made a picture guide. Haha:
In metro station, find your icon
Pick the color, after selecting the color it will save and exit out of metro station
Then long press on the icon you want to change to bring up this menu
After selecting gallery and finding and selecting the icon you saved, drag out the resizing box fully
There you go!
Any more questions, feel free to ask

LG V10 - Resize Widgets?

Hi Guys,
Just got my hands on a V10 and it is a lovely phone. Just trying to get to grips with it having upgraded from a Note 3.
I am trying to figure out how to stretch the Widgets so they go across the entire width of the screen.
I could do this with my Note 3 but can't seem to do it with my V10.
Am I being silly?
Thanks

Just hold your finger down on it as if you were going to move or delete it and let go once the delete/remove option comes up. You can then grab an edge to resize. Blue lines indicate an allowable resize, red lines a size not available. Pandora for me can go from 4x1 to 4x4 but not 5x1.

Odd. When I do that I get the blue lines around the box to move it, however when I release my finger the widget falls down again and locks.
I don't get the options of moving the sides to resize.
Also, all the promotional photos of the V10 show the clock widget with the hours on top of the minutes, which I prefer. I don't see that widget on my device and I can't shrink the 3x2 clock widget to make it present this way. Where is the clock widget showcased in this picture?

Jimmy, I've been using android phones for years. If you don't have an answer, don't respond. I have a horizontal clock on my lock screen as well as my home screen. Regardless of which screen is in the picture, the clock is vertical. Do you have a vertical clock on your device on any of the screens?

Turns out my problem is with the Audible widget and amazon music widget both are not actually resizable.
Other widgets resize in the way you would expect.

I had trouble resizing widgets too. But I noticed that if I first moved them away from the left side of the display, I could then resize. Weird.

no, I do not
they also used a similar vertical clock on the press pics for the lg flex

Theme

Somebody needs to create a theme like this one.
Go to settings - accessibility - vision - negative colours
I would take a screenshot off how it looks unfortunetly screenshots dont show negative colours. The negative colours looks great in the settings as it's pure black.
"Why don't you just enable negative colours rather than a theme?" Well the negative colours only looks good when it's on the settings page as before the change it is white mea mmmking that it will be black when enabled, now the problem is that the menu is white like the app selection, which doesn't look good as the negative colours would invert darker colour into a brighter colour.
Hopefully you get what I mean...

@underdog_656
Are u talking about this negative vision colour? All our themes work with negative vision colour setting. So negative color seem look like inverted color.... So if u have red theme applied.... then after negative vision colour setting applied it would change to blue or teal color theme..... u got the idea when u see screenshots below. We Would create ThemeDepot thread soon for S8 and S8+ but in the meantime you can try our free themes or premium themes from our website at http://www.theme-depot.net or our Theme Depot Thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=70328174
EDIT:
now I got what you meant after went back to regular setting all my screenshots from Negative vision Colour all changed to normal color theme.

Basically what I meant if you have the original theme then do the inverted colours the settings menu looks appealing as it's black and red. Somebody should create a theme just like that only for settings and notification and also possibly phone app red. Hopefully you get what I'm here after
Why not just upload it onto your pc and open paint, and then overwrite using inverted color.

How to extract original theme frome phone ?
There is one already called High_Contrast_theme, you need to be logged into your Samsung account first.
then goto "Settings" "Wallpapers and Themes"
Then "Themes" (at the bottom) "Search" (at the top) for "High Contrast" download and apply this...
It will look exactly like the screen shots of "negative colours" a few posts back.
Then its like someone cut your circulation - made your world will turn black !!
Its made by Samsung and is exactly what you are looking for (thanks please!)
let us know what you think =)

So far great looking theme, except I'm not a fan of those style of icons (that's my opinion tho). Maybe you would possibly release one theme with the custom icons maybe other theme with default icons.
