[Q] Sad Lady Needs Your Help! :( - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Hey there guys and gals.
I have been searching through the forums for 3 hours and have found nothing that has helped. If this HAS been answered elsewhere.. I'm sorry. I need help finding it apparently.
Ok. I got a Nook Tablet last night. It was employee appreciation weekend and it was cheap! Gotto rooted and it was working great. (Thank you for that!) I deleted an app (I was tired and can't recall which) not having my glasses on and in bed playing around with it and it flashed to the screen that looked like the nook tablet's home page. But with the 'live wallpaper' instead of the nook wallpaper. I figured I'd reroot it in the morning and go to bed.
So OK. Here I was. Nook unable to get back to the GoLauncher and stuck at the nook screen. Even after reboots I was unable to get it to boot into the Golauncher. I attempted to restore and reroot. But it told me it was already rooted and I attempted to unroot and reroot. :/ Apparently I'm a dummy.
Somewhere along the way I think I've bricked it? It hardly boots. It boots the 'n' and then pops to a black screen with a picture of a tablet with a red exclamation point in it and says the following:
"Please restart your device and try again. If you encounter the same issue, please contact customer service or visit: nook.com/tablet/support."
I've attempted the 10 restarts, the 8 restarts, and every other little tip I've come across so far. With no avail. I'm pretty frustrated and caved in and just decided to seek out your help. So any help would be.. Just... Amazing.. I feel absolutely silly as I've never had anything brick on me since 2008!
Thanks a ton in advance, and like I mentioned earlier.. If this information is somewhere.. I'm so sorry. I'll keep looking as well. I just want to get her up and running again so I can fix this. D:

Go to this thread at end of post #3. Shows how to restore for clean slate.

Edit - nevermind . Solution bellow
Sent from my Haro

What you need to do is a system reset first, then a restore if that does not work.
Turn off your nook, hold the N button and the power button at the same time until it goes on and off. Power on and it should ask you if you want to reset your nook. This will erase everything you have done and start new. If that does not work, you need to do the same thing 8 times to completely restore the nook to factory condition.

Thanks so much for a quick reply, guys. Is there a 'thanks' button I am missing? Anyway, back to the issue at hand...
----------
Attempted the reboot & the rebooting 8 times as directed to no avail. I still get the black screen with the exclamation point saying the same thing.
I also attempted the do the whole adb shell and since it's not on it's not communicating with it so I can't do that either.
Any other suggestions?

Went ahead and tried this even though I have stated already I have tried the 8-times booting method and even 10 times. It doesn't work, and didn't work this time either. And I cannot access the shell do to it not booting.
It's still at the screen with the nook and the red exclamation mark. I can post a photo of the screen if it will help. Just let me know. Thanks guys.

Sounds like it's time for you to return/exchange it, and play the damsel-in-distress routine. If anything, blame it on your dratted-son-who-did-something-to-it-I-dunno-wut.
If the B&N techs play hardball and can't or won't exchange it because it's rooted, then you can do one of two things. Get loud and demand to speak to the manager. Then get louder. Remember, it's NOT your fault (even if it is), and you're not going to let any Scrooge-wannabes ruin your Xmas.
Best if you have little kids and can bring them with you. Even better if you can get them to cry on cue.
Or, if you aren't the voluble type, take it with you. For the second time, make sure it's truly bricked.

Try doing the failed rebooted more than 10 times. I read somewhere in this forum it may take more attempts, maybe 15? or 20? You have nothing to lose and it may work.

what does it say...
had a simular problem. what your goal is to interupt the boot. kinda like when in windows it will popup a window if you failed to load to windows by turning off power during prevoius boot.
I would just let it boot until a few seconds after get the n with black backround. or even the read forever screen. do you ever get to the the read forever screen?
Then i just keep hitting the power and n home button pretty much at the same time, you may want to try holding it or hitting them a few times. until it reboots. if you get it to reboot enough times you will see a reset screen, that will clear setting etc. And reboot. but if force boot more times you get a the same screen about clearing data it will show yellow progress bar until its done, but then it will reboot and show a second progress bar and say something about restoring default software. if it did not get to this step i could not get out brick.
maybe somewone could take a video of this and post it on youtube. it took quite afew attempts before i could figure it out. ive done it twice now. if i need to it again i will video it but restoring everything the way i like it is a pain.
you may have a bigger problem then this, but i would not assume so. i had trouble figuring it out and i was at the point of returing my nt as well. but i tried different things and it worked.
i keep geeting only a clearing data screen and not the full software restore. you will need to
see software restore on your screen. not just the clearing data thing.

You have to do the 8 failed boot properly for it to work.
Turn off your NT.
Press and hold the volume up and n button then press and hold the power button. Keep holding the buttons until your screen turn on. Keep holding until your screen turn off by itself. Keep holding 1 second after the screen is off. Release all the buttons and repeat 7 more times. Don't do it 8 or 9 more times. Turn on your NT on the 9th time with just the power button and your NT will automatically restore after the n black screen.

bokaholic, were you able to get your NT to factory reboot?
I believe i'm in the same boat as you. I keep getting the red exclamation mark. I've tried holding volume up, 'n', and power for 8 power cycles and 9th just pushing the power button to turn it on. It always ends up at the exclamation mark. I've also tried 15 power cycles ending up at the exclamation mark on the 16th power on.
Questions for the NT gurus:
Is it possible to corrupt the factory restore boot block?
Are there any other ways to force a factory restore? Just wondering when i should call it quits and start crying to BN.

Try this.
Power off completely.
Press the power button and the "Nook" at the same time until the logo appears.
Follow prompt to do a reset.
It worked for me.
Sent from my BNTV250 using Tapatalk

I've tried that. I always end up at the same screen though with the exclamation mark. I'm never able to get a prompt or the NT asking me to reset to defaults.
Thanks for chiming in though! I appreciate it.

I was going to suggest the 10 failed boot methods, but that only worked for me when:
a)my device wasn't bricked (just wanted to unroot at the time)
and consequently
b) the white "read forever" screen still appeared after the black "n" screen
Powering it up and then powering it down right when the screen switched to the white "read forever" 10 times in a row resulted in a factory restore (or reset; can't remember specifically) that cleared root, google apps, and everything else from my device.
I don't know what to suggest to you guys though.
Do you guys think Adam_Outler's SD card method of restoring could work?

I've tried the SD card method as well. This whole thing started cuz I was unfortunate enough to get the update. So I used the SD card method to down rev the sw. Then my "n" button wouldnt work so I decided to do the factory restore 8 reboot. After that, I'm stuck at the exclamation mark screen.
I've tried putting the same SD card in, with the same acclaim_update.zip but it doesn't seem to be reading from the SD card. I still end up at the exclamation mark screen.

I'm drawing a blank at what to suggest next. Have you heard/read of anyone else getting this exclamation mark screen? (besides people in this thread).

this was the only thread that I found. I was hoping for the slight chance the OP figured something out and would like to share.

might help
I kinda had the same issue yesterday. I created a post "My rooting experience" in the general forum.
Might be helpful.

Touch Pro abruptly stopped working; won't boot.

So here's a peculiar incident:
I have a CDMA TP with a stock ROM and a few basic apps I gathered from these forums and others. I've had it for less than a week.
Tonite, I went to check my text messages. Suddenly, the screen went black and the phone stopped responding. After pressing the power button and fiddling with the keys, I pulled out the stylus and did a soft reset. No response. Confused by this, I tried again, but still nothing. I removed the battery, and turned the phone back on. It froze at the "Touch Pro" screen with the rom/radio/etc info at the bottom. After repeating this a few times I decided to do a hard reset. So, I turn the device on and perform the hard reset. By this point the TP is only turning on SOME TIMES, and I have to take the battery out and put it back in often just to get it to start successfully. So, I finally get the device to boot up and it starts to configure WinMo. Suddenly, while configuring, it freezes. Now I try to turn it back on, and nothing happens.
Basically the device is stuck like this, shifting between not turning on at all and turning on but freezing at the "Touch Pro" screen.
So, my question is, what the heck is going on here? Has anyone else had this problem, or does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
p.s. Yes, the battery is fully charged.

Time to take it in and get a new one.....
Same problem here phone started b not coming out of lock mode. Backlight is on but no display on screen (if i tilt the screen left and right i can see light coming from behind) did about 6 hard resets and still same problem. also power button works whenever it wants to. this phone sucks @ss, i want my mogul back. on a second note my replacement will be here on wednesday.
Touch Pro stock rom purchased back in nov when it came out
yeah, i've had the same problem, i found if i hit my phone on the back or side and then batter pull and hit the soft reset while off, not the power button to turn it back on, it comes back on with color on the screen not just blank black screen with backlight, this works mostly every time, but when it doesn't, i just hold the power button down and do battery pull and hit the power button and it works, its like its got a combo of things you have to do before it works.. weird
Boot Up
I have also had similar problems. I for some reason sometimes have to remove my SD card and boot up without it for some reason. Not all the time, but every once in a blue moon. Not too sure how that affects anything, but you may try that too.
well i started a thread here ***help*** because i kinda have the same problem.
i downloaded some cabs, nothing fancy but i had some problems with a theme i downloaded. when i went to deleted i couldnt..... to make a story short, i took it to the sprint store where they tried to do a master reset/ hard reset and it wont take it. it wont do a thing... they say some important files are missing...
the phone works but not the way it should... the time on the home screen wont show up. and some other small things...
dont know how this happened but i would like to know... im worried about new programs to the phone now. ( getting a new one)

Reboot Brick HTC process
****DOn't take battery out after hard boot***
1.just watch videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk56olMkCtU and do what they do but dont take battery out. LEAVE phone STUCK on BOOT screen. Nothign else will move or work but you want phone just like that.
2. connect usb cable to active sync. (this may not link up but leave usb connected anyhow) Do not delete phone profile.
3.use rom like Download MightyROM6_Herman.exe avail at: http://www.lilrico.com/Mighty/mightyromblog/?p=454
4 although active sync is still attatched but may not be connecting. It will connect thru usb anyway when you run the rom software. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV2I2WAFkg4&NR=1
This worked and kept phone from cutting on and off. and restored ROM. don't know about original htc boot. but your phone will work under this rom for now and you can go from there.
hey thanks plain ole dumb, it works now.
man I thought it was over.
thanks again

[Q] End key stopped working after hard reset

So by accident I launched a CHT file from my SD Card which essentially crashed sense. No biggie, did a hard reset and thought I would be okay.
Wrong.
When I hold down the end key (to either load johcos' end key or even if i uninstall it) my screen is dead. The hard keys work, but not the screen.
Anyone have a suggestion? I have been using tmo-us stock rom without problems until yesterday when this started. I realize I could flash a new rom and maybe it is time...but tis very annoying this is happening after a hard reset.
Thanks.
still not working after flashing energy rom
argh.
flashed energy.
same problem.
now have to work...but any suggestions? my long hard key is dead and freezes my phone. hard reset/ new rom did nothing.
thanks.
same with android
so now anytime my phone goes to lock screen the screen stops functioning though the hardkeys work just fine.
thought i would try android and be savvy...but wrong.
same problem.
any ideas? i am ready to take a hammer to this damn thing...
This recently happened to my GF's phone, She said she was just playing a game one day, it froze so she popped the battery out and rebooted. Now every time she uses the End/Power ( red ) hard button to shutoff or wake up the device, the screen stays locked and won't respond.
I have tried soft reset, hard reset, different lock screens and what not. The only solution I found, besides sending it in, is to let the screen shut off by itself, and then wake it up with the Call/Send ( green ) hard button.
You can also try using the End/Power hard button to lock it, but then as long as you wake it with the Call/Send hard button it should be fine.
It has worked every time now. Try it and see if it helps! It's a little annoying but it saves money and insurance!
Going to repost this in all those previous listed threads to see if it helps anyone else.
Good Luck!

[Q] My phone keeps getting stuck in safe made!! Please help.

I have searched and can't find anything that works. Sometimes it will reboot normal, and sometimes it will reboot into safe mode.
I have pulled the battery and let it sit. I have reboot over and over I have shut it off and waited. I have gone into recovery and rebooted.
I am running superclean 2.8
I do not know if there is an actual problem with the phone, because for a while now it has acted as if I am randomly pushing the keys on the bottom of the screen. It pops up the menu, exits where I am, pulls up search or even pulls up the task screen as if I did a multi home press.
It does not do this all of the time, but sometimes it can be setting on the desk and it will start jumping menus.
Since it is intermitten I am not sure if flashing to stock and taking it to a tech would help.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just realized I posted to the wrong section, will a mod please move this for me? Or will someone let me know if it is something I can do myself and how?
There's two main causes I've seen for this...first and foremost, complete odin back to stock. Run stock for a few days and see what happens...
I did an odin factory restore and ran it for a few hour the other day and I don't remember if it was in safe mode or not, but it was doing the same thing with the menu button.

Cannot get device to factory reset

I posted this in the A500 forum as well, but it's probable that this is not a problem limited to my device, and it's also possible that there is a rom that might help me out.
I purchased my tablet on the day it came out, so it's long out of warranty. Everything has been fine with it until three nights ago.
I woke up in the morning to a crashed app alert. I don't get crashed apps often, but it does happen, so I hit ok. A few seconds later I was inundated with crashed app alerts. At that point, any app I opened would also crash immediately. Figuring a good reset would fix it, I turned it off...and it wouldn't turn back on.
I did finally get it to start by holding the volume up and power button.
But that didn't fix the problem. I've discovered that it is somewhat stable if I keep wifi off, but if wifi is on, within minutes everything starts to crash again.
I tried uninstalling some of the apps that crash, but when I restart, the apps are back. It doesn't matter what I uninstall, when I restart, it's back. Installed apps also disappear, the wallpaper resets...basically nothing I do sticks once I restart. I tried to factory reset using the button combination required for my device, and the screen gives the "erasing user data" message, but when it loads up, everything is just as I left it. I tried using the android os option to factory reset, but when I hit "erase everything", the button depresses, but nothing happens.
So obviously, I'm a bit perplexed.
I've never rooted it, and I ran an anti-virus scan a few hours before this all happened and it came up clean.
Anyone ever experienced this? Any advice? If no one has any ideas one how to fix it, is there a way to bypass the main os completely with a rom? I have absolutely no idea how those work, so it may be obvious that it won't, but I figured I'd check.
Thanks in advance! And thanks for reading this far, even if you have no advice!

LG Optimus F6 Possible reset?

Hi this is my first thread and also an emergency but any help much appreciated!
My Optimus F6 had this problem every few months but it usually fixes itself, where it gets caught in a boot loop and the MetroPCS logo would keep repeating on startup without going to home screen. The last time it happened a couple months ago it was also shutting down really fast without me doing anythingwhen it did work , so it most likely thought power was being held when it wasn't. I fixed it be blowing into the buttons and pressing them while the phone was off. I also removed the battery/sim card a lot.
Anyway today it went into the boot loop again...so I held the volume keys and the home button before turning it on, and it went into what I assumed was the recovery menu. Now this couldnt have been more than a couple seconds, but I was looked at the choices, and then it acted if I had pressed a key...and then it said "Error" unable to something something...regardless though I pulled out the battery immediately, this all happened very quickly. Now the phone boots fine but I'm getting the startup wizard as if it had reset. Now when I try the Recovery Menu again the choices seem normal now, so I maybe accessed a different menu before. I called LG and no help, I really need to know if the phone has been reset or not?
I have to go to work in a couple days and the thought of all my critical data being lost and my contacts and photos and memos on internal memory gone is gonna be really bad, I have no way to get some of the stuff back. Please help! Thank you!

Why don't you go through the start up wizard without logging in to anything and see? If it has been reset, I hope you had it set to back up your data to Google or some other cloud service or you're out of luck if it was not saved on an external SD card.
I would but I'm afraid if I go further through the Startup Wizard it'll further erase and chance I have of getting my data

It's either gone or not already. Going through the Startup Wizard has no effect on that.
