I rooted my device using Gingerbreak.
I have 2.2.2 installed out of the box. I installed CWM. I installed busybox.
Busybox failed. I tried all the versions that it contains.
I checked root status, and RootCheckBasic says I'm rooted.
I installed Flash ClockworkMod Recovery. It will not reboot to CWM.
It only reboots to the standard Android recovery.
I'm trying to install Bumblebee ROM 2.4.
Here are some things I am having issues understanding with it...
Backup current apps and their data with Titanium Backup (available in the Market). Is this required? The phone is new. I have nothing to back up.
Do a nandroid backup in recovery before doing anything else below.
And the nandroid backup is done with CWM? Again CWM won't reboot, only the standard Android recovery boots.
Required if installing BB 2.x for the first time: Wipe. Wipe it all. Data, cache, system, dalvik-cache, sd-ext if you've got it (might need to look under Advanced or Mounts in recovery to do the last two, and while you're there format /system). I assume you wipe it all with CWM while in recovery?
If upgrading from BB 2.3, wipe cache (and only cache) in recovery.
Does not apply to me
If not upgrading from 2.3, install Wiper zip (see below), just to be extra sure that all is wiped. Don't reboot yet. Installing wiper.zip is done by sideloading using adb commands?
Install ROM zip (see below).
I assume this too is done by copying the zip to the external SD, then selecting update from SD card in recovery... right?
Please someone shed some light on this for me.
In standard Android recovery it says e3. I know on my Captivate I had to use Odin to install GB loaders to get it to work.
THANKS!
Flashwork mod recovery? Never heard of it.
Try downloading rom manager from the market and use that.
Everything else should be simple

Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
It's in rom manager.
Which I installed from the market.
But I don't get the CWM recovery when I reboot into recovery mode.
I get the standard Android recovery
-you know... the one that just has "install update.zip"

Oh, okay, um... are you using the reboot into recovery option in rom manager right after flashing?
After flashing what?
I reboot into recovery through rom manager and get:
Android system recovery <3e>
reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

Android System recovery...
Do not pull out the battery!!
After hitting flash clockworkmod recovery, immediately hit reboot recovery
After hitting anything in CWM it did nothing more than reboot into the standard android recovery.
This phone has 2.2.2 on it. Problem? Probably.
I followed instructions at androidcentral and got it to work.
Needed Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_VM
Installed BACKside-IHO-VM670-11222011
using Xionia_CWMA_12518.6_VM_Recovery-signed
Had a little problem today and needed to activate the phone. BUUUUT......
the rom didn't allow activation.
So I installed Bumblebee. No go.
Then I tried [rom] basic stock rom.
Neither of these will let my phone boot. It gets stuck at boot.
Nothing happens.
I can still boot into Xiona_CWMA. But no roms will work.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

I believe that may be due to the newer display in your phone (I'm new to this device so I dont know much yet). From the little bit of information I've gathered, devices manufactured recently have a different display that requires a kernel that supports it. In the iho roms this is included, on others you'll need to flash a kernel right after the rom.
For the stock rom I can upload what I use if you need it. Its basically the one posted here just with the boot.img swapped with one from a nandroid backup I made before switching roms
I think you're spot on with that idea.
I loaded CM7 variant, and it worked.
My question is, how do I get another ROM on it if it has the newer screen?
I loaded different kernels that were supposed to fix it, but no go.

Ok so im realtively new to working on android phones, just got an atrix, rooted fine, superuser and all bootloader unlocked and stuff, booted into clockwork mod for the first time.
When i did this i clicked on "install update from SD card", chose Greyblur as a test rom cause i seen it on the guide to flash roms, so i followed what they did exacly, when i installed it, i went straight to the "reboot" button, clicked reboot and when it did it wont go past the Dual Core Technology screen, please help me android atrix veterans! i dont have insurance and ive been searching for about a week now, im really scared that im royally screwed, i bought accessories for the phone and want to use them on a non-soft bricked phone!
Please and thanks!
1. Install Romracer's cwm
2. Greyblur is a pseudo-rom, try any rom at the top in the development forum instead. I'm using Nottach's Dark Side right now, it's crazy fast and is very stable.
i have cwm, the problem is i just cant get booted into it without getting on my phone, and launching it via an app i have, is there a way to get on the CWM recovery without an app? cause when i click android recovery it takes me to the stock recovery
Ok, sounds like you installed Tenfar's OLD clockwork recovery, which was only a 'bootstrap' recovery.
What you need to do is, try getting into recovery by doing this:
power off.
press and hold power and vol down buttons until you see 'fastboot' appear on screen. press vol down 7 times until you see 'android recovery' and press vol up key.
This may or may NOT work since you installed the boostrap recovery from Tenfar.
If it DOES work. Do a factory reset. and reboot. See if its fixed.
If not do this:
Download RomRacers Recovery and flash via Fastboot
then do the same button commands to get into Recovery and try to factory reset again.
If none of that works, PM me with your information, such as Android version (froyo, gingerbread, etc etc) and I'll get you sorted.
how do i use fastboot? do i need a program or something on my computer? never touched fastboot before i dont think
Hey i have a similar problem my phone was rooted and an unlocked bootloader using the automatic unlocker and i went to install a rom i believe it was called unofficial aroma rom by th3 bill i went to install it from tenfars cwm and i wiped every thing first and when i went to install the rom it finished in like 5 seconds i pretty new to all this but i thought something was up when it rebooted it wont go past the dual core screen so i went and looked around and found that it could be a kernel issue or a recovery be outdated issue since when i tried to restore my back up on tenfars it still wouldn't go past the dual core screen i then put olmypus cwm on it to see if that wont fix it but i guess that made it worse cus now when i went to go restore I it says error mismatch mdsum so yeah i looked around and read that i can return to stock by flashing a fruitcake but before i did that i thought i should make sure first.hope you guys can help

alright so i did what you said and I'm just guessing the rom just doesnt work for my phone cuz it installed in 5 secs again and i installed a previous version of the rom and it didn't work as well it took me to a rom setup screen like asking me what i want to wipe and what memory to use and then installed pretty quick as well and it didn't boot past the dual core i then whent ahead and flashed the fruit cake rom which is pure stock 1.4.1 and now my phone works...i now have a couple questions do you think it would be smart to back up this rom and keep it as my back up even though its not my real original stock rom? my original one doesn't work it gets a md5 mismatch error or something and doesn't restore.i read some where that tenfars recovery doesnt back u roms properly and that might me why because that what i backed up on should i install rom racer recovery i read that that one is specifically for the atrix if should can you explain how to do that?lastly i stil want to put a custom rom on my phone because the whole reason i did this was because i found out i wasn't getting ics but
each of the two roms i installed never booted up and the only one that worked was the fruit cake do you know a good stable rom to use preferably ics or jellybean?i was also looking into the neutrino v2.9 rom but the linked is down and you need rom racer to install if you cant answer anything i asked please do thanks so far though

go back into recovery by pressing volume down while it's turning on. Then mount sd storage (from recovery) and past into your sdcard an other better rom).Unmount when transfer is complete. WIPE ALL: factory reset, cache and dalvik cache. Install the zip from sdcard. Enjoy
Try formatting data and cache. Format options should be under advanced - mount menu. After formatting your data and cache go to install zip from sdcard and install the new rom. Do wipe data, cache and dalvik cache.

Download cwm rom manager from the manager, and install the recovery.
After that you can install the rom you desire!
i tried that and still same result. I have install other roms before but now it wont let me get to the install from sd screen
You should probably learn how to flash back to stock first (instructions are in many of the Guides). If you are flashing roms, eventually something will go wrong, and you will need to reflash to stock, or at least install a new kernel and recovery. Using Odin or Heimdall to install a kernel is part of the instructions for installing CM. Better to have Odin and the JFD file on hand when your phone bricks or boot-loops.

You can download CWR from my signature and put it on your internal SD. Put the update.zip on the internal and make sure it is only thing labeled .zip on there. Hit Reinstall Packages, let it cycle then hit it again. Recovery will go from blue to green and then you can install ROM from SD.
+1 on the reading and how to install ROMs. Plus while you are in CWR, go to Backup/Restore and do a nandriod backup.
Good luck.

What these guys have told you has worked time and time again for most everyone else. What I would recommend is that you get the AIO toolbox. Everything you need in a one-stop-shop.
I just did the biggest F-Up of my flashing life. While following QBKing77's Rooting & CWM with unlocked, at approx 3:50, during the flashing of the root SYSTEM.img file, rather than that file, I used the wrong file to flash used an IMG file that was meant for cwm, which is a completely different task.
So now I am trying to get into fast boot and try to do it with correct SYSTEM.IMG, then to find out I never got it downloaded, the link was deadand now I can not find where to DL it from. I must've not been paying attention and got ahead of myself.
Anyone know where I can a mirror of the file found here. Its the first link in the root section labelled "moto-fastboot flashable /system image".
Am I screwed? Does anybody have a copy of that system.img file laying around. I can not find any mirrors. That is the only way I can see this getting fixed bc I can still go into fastboot mode.
ckeck this ????

Thank shabbypenguin for those
If you can get into rsd mode and connected/recognized in rsd lite you should be able to flash one of those sbf files and return to stock.

LOL no kidding Custodian. I did get a laugh out of that.
Thanks CubanLuke & ShabbyPenguin. I did use RSDLite to flash the current sbf you directed me to, I can boot into the phone again. Thanks again.
Now as to how to proceed, I will have to unlock the bootloader again, np, but when I run into that very step where I broiled it, the rooting via speedboot.... would it be okay to root using AIO instead because I can not find the SYSTEM.IMG needed to follow along w/ the video using this method.
Can I just root a different method, then proceed on with CWM recovery, then flash rom from the video?

Thanks KTT. Okay, I'm back on track now. I am unlocked again, rooted as well. but I am not sure about 2 things. This will be my very first android rom flash and just coming from a big whoopsies, I just want to be sure.....
1) Format system: in cwm recovery, which option is that? I don't see "format system" in the main or advanced menu. Maybe its worded differently?
2) Flash ROM: I can only assume its either "Apply Update from SD" or Update from SD". Not sure which one though.

1) Format system is in the "mount" options. Although it's unneeded to flash a ROM. Personally I just wipe data/factory reset and then wipe cache and have zero issues. Others may tell you different though.
2) "Install .zip from SD Card" then select whichever .zip you're looking to install.

Okay well I am in some trouble again. successfully flashed an alpha cm7.1, but it didn't have market and the one i installed did not work so decided to flash to cm7.2 via CWM. When it booted I didn't really see anything change, later realized that maybe I was suppose to wipe/format in cwm first(idk).
So I decided to flash 198_7, same one that I used to restore back to stock earlier. But I did not get back to stock. The process was 100%, it told me to manually turn on the device, which was in rsd mode. So I unplugged, pulled batt, reboot. The phone now starts up until the pulsing Moto logo then screen goes black, then it loops.
In the process I lost CWM & unlocked. So trying to flash a ROM via cwm is no longer an option. Any thoughts?

Reboot into stock recovery, when you get the recovery logo thing push both volume up and volume down at the same time to get the recovery options. Then do a factory reset and it should boot for you. After that, root and unlock again. And you didn't have the Market because you forgot to install Gapps...

The reason cm7 didn't have the market is that you needed to flash gapps. Try doing a hard reset. http://www.hard-reset.com/motorola-photon-4g-hard-reset.html That should do it.

i had the same problem i think and was going thru boot loops but some one told me to start into recovery when you try you get that ? android screen from there hold down volume up and down at same time then wipe phone booted up fine after that.
It worked like a charm. Thanks. I'm still very new to android and hate to admit it but will be running into problems like these again. The best way to minimize it for me is, not only follow certain directions correctly to get out of these binds, but to understand them.
- So theres an image of the stock ROM stashed away on the phone regardless? And it can be accessed only via the stock recovery? Because after I succeeded in flashing cm7.1, I did a factory reset once from settings>privacy and that restored me to a fresh CM7.1. The factory reset from settings>privacy and in CWM is the same, but both different from the factory reset via STOCK RECOVERY?
- Also what would be the correct method to go from one custom ROM to another? Would it be this? :
(in CWM)
- Format system
- Wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache/dalvik
- Reboot recovery
- Flash ROM
Or can I just jump to install from zip ?
- Also regarding SD Storage (internal), only holds storage files? So on any fresh ROM there shouldn't be anything in that partition relating to that new ROM yet right? So I can delete things without worry?
You should not have to reboot into recovery, once your wipes are complete, normally you can just flash your ROM of choice in the same recovery session.
Before I flashed anything I would make a backup with CWM so you don't have to keep rooting and unlocking. You can just restore your backup.

After flashing 198 7 sbf, all u need to do is flash derpunlock not go through oem unlocking, then reflash recovery.
Simple generic process for going between roms (assuming already unlocked + cwm recovery flashed; process may be different for some roms, always make sure to read directions, but this is the general concept)
1. Download rom (and gapps if necessary) and put on your sdcard
2. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup
3. You made a nandroid backup right?
4. Secure your nandroid backup (move it to your pc or something).
5. You know where your nandroid backup is right?
6. Wipe data/factory reset.
7. Install zip from sd (flash), choose the rom.
8. Reboot system.
At this point your rom should be all set. If for some reason you don't like it, simply boot into recovery and restore your nandroid backup. You can even make nandroid backups of various roms if you want to swap between them for whatever reason.
I will be getting a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 tomorrow and I am interested in installing the PACMAN ROM
However, the instructions are not clear for me since I am new to all this. I've downloaded the roms, gapps and kernal and now the instructions say to:
'Put the files on your device
Reboot into recovery
Wipe dalvik cache
Install the zips (or do adb sideload if you want)
Reboot'
Since I have no experience with android devices, I am not sure how to do these steps. I've tried searching on Youtube but there aren't any tutorials for SGP's. I am aware that I need to do a full wipe since I am going from GB to JB (so I need to delete data, dalvik, system and dbdata). It also says to do a backup if anything goes wrong, which I am not too sure how to do as well.
If someone could explain these instructions clearly to me, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

put your device in download mode (hold down power and volume down) and flash entropy's kernel with odin.
then you will have clockworkmod recovery, which you can boot into by holding power and volume up.
in clockworkmod, you can make a backup, wipe data, and install the rest of the stuff.
you could even do all of this without ever booting up the stock rom.
This is what I do/did...
I used this tutorial to flash CWM and root
http://m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
Download SuperOneClick and
Download Odin. Follow tutorial.
Odin can be used to flash ROMs or kernels and to flash CWM.
Download the Pacman ROM and a kernel and put it on your External SD card.
Use ROM Manager from the play store to reboot into Recovery mode (easiest way) or volume up and power button at the same time as the Samsung flashes after you first boot your device.
From recovery mode you can wipe dalvik cache etc, but if this is a new device, you shouldn't have to factory reset or wipe cache (I think) If you're buying a used device, wipe and reset.
You're in recovery mode still, navigate to-
"Load zip from external SD card" and select it. Navigate to the Pacman zip and select it.
You navigate using the volume up and down buttons and select using the power button.
Navigate back to main screen in recovery mode and select Reboot System.
Do the same thing to flash a kernel. If the kernel has clockwork mod integrated, load the kernel first.
I use Xplore to move files around, it's quick and easy.
The reason ppl tell you to back up any data is, they have data they want to keep. If this is a new device, you don't have anything worth saving, such as contacts apps etc.

put your device in download mode (hold down power and volume down) and flash entropy's kernel with odin.
then you will have clockworkmod recovery, which you can boot into by holding power and volume up.
in clockworkmod, you can make a backup, wipe data, and install the rest of the stuff.
you could even do all of this without ever booting up the stock rom.

Thanks a lot! I'll do this as soon as I get the device sometime today

After I flashed the kernel, it said 'PASS' on the Odin screen but now my device keeps rebooting, and it won't stop! D:
I can enter CWM Recovery, and I tried wiping data/factory reset and I've wiped cached partition but it still keeps rebooting.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know! I've googled this problem for 3 hours but haven't found a solution
what exactly did you do in cwm?
did you install pac rom?
if not, try installing (using install zip from sdcard) it directly over gb, after doing a full wipe.
also install gapps the same way

I followed instructions on this website;
m.androidauthority.com/galaxy-player-5-0-android-2-3-6-root-clockworkmod-recovery-116474/
(I can't post links, but its the website that HOG1 posted above)
I got up to step 7, but my device kept rebooting after that. So I went in CWM recovery by holding POWER and UP buttons and wiped my data and cache but it still kept rebooting.
And I can't flash any roms since I still haven't rooted the device. I couldn't use entropy's kernel because I have an INTL Galaxy Player.

Would that work, even though I haven't rooted my device yet? Since I haven't done the steps under 'Rooting the Galaxy Player 5.0' on the link HG1 sent.
oh you have an intl device. in that case, you'll have to install cm9 first, power down, boot up into recovery and install pac rom
you dont have to be rooted for this

Okay, but in the CM9 thread the first thing it says for installation is 'Make sure your device is ROOTED' and mine is not - so are you sure it will work? I just don't want to brick my device or anything, just got it today xD
to install cm9, boot into recovery, and go to mounts and storage, then select the mount usb storage (connect your usb cable to your computer first)
then copy a cm9 rom zip over (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679957)
you should be fine
if something fails for some reason, try installing http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465144 via odin (put your device in dl mode).
this is a rooted stock rom

yup, dont forget to wipe data, cache, dalvik, (look under mounts and storage) system, and dbdata (or datadata)
All this INTL and US device stuff just throws wrenches into everything. The link I posted says it's for INTL and US devices. Apparently not the case.
I have intl kernel on my US device and it works fine, not sure why the reverse isn't true. Weird.
I use the INTL kernel because I like the governors choices.

Yeah it sucks that Samsung made different devices for different regions...Makes no sense..
But yeah, I installed CM9 and when I selected to reboot my phone from the actual ROM it said 'Rebooting...' and now its been like this for 30mins or so... :| I guess I'll have to wait for the battery to drain or something, but as soon as it does I'll wipe data, etc and install PACMAN with the new kernel and gapps. Sucks that you can't take the battery out the phone, I don't think the phone is actually gonna reboot.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, I JUST SAW ONLINE THAT YOU CAN SWITCH IT OFF BY HOLDING DOWN THE POWER BUTTON AND HOME BUTTON...Yeah I'm totally new to Android and Samsung xD
Or you could hold the power and volume up buttons to go into Recovery mode and reboot from there.

I finally got it working yesterday evening, and I'm loving the new ROM! Thanks a lot for your time and effort guys, I really appreciate it
Hi everyone, I have a problem with my phone.
It is no longer booting into the OS, instead it boots into the recovery mode.
So here's what happened. I was on Google Play Store looking for some utility apps, and found this "[ROOT] Rashr" app, read its details and got interested in it since I also do wanna try to back up my CWM Recovery. I don't even completely understand what it means, but as what the apps says, I really thought that with it, backing up my recovery will be very easy, just like how ROM is backed up when you do a NANDroid backup. So, after it was installed, I head on to its Back-Up section, ticked the box for "Recovery", and tapped on "Go", expecting that it would work. It said "Rebooting..." and booted to recovery mode, so I thought that I had to complete the "Recovery Back-Up" inside CWM, so I spent time looking through the options. And, this is where I discovered that CWM has a rainbow color mode. When I found out that no signs of back up could be done in CWM, I rebooted from within CWM. BUT, it still booted to Recovery Mode.
I tried . . .
Odin, but since it boots only to recovery, Odin isn't detecting it.
Wiped the data, cache partition, and Dalvik cache. Then restore.
Can this be fixed? I badly need help.
I have:
CWM Recovery v6.0.3.6 (used when I rooted the phone), updated to v6.0.4.5 (current)
Stock ROM 4.1.2
Recent NANDroid Backup
Any inputs will be very much appreciated. Thanks.
No intention of giving the "Rashr" app a bad name. I just didn't know how to use it.

I never thought the solution would be that simple. Hehe Thanks manoj. :good:
Finally fixed it!
What I did:
1) Flashed the stock Recovery. I was surprised it was able to boot to Android cause I was thinking that the zip is only the stock recovery. It had errors though. Home Screen won't appear or load.
2) When rebooted, it got stuck in SAMSUNG boot animation, but it was all good cause Odin was still able to detect it which means it can still be rooted. So . . .
3) Flashed CWM Recovery v6.0.3.6
3) Wiped data, cache partition, and Dalvik cache.
4) Restored the backup.
