I have IMAP email set to office exchange. Stock app works OK (GT-7500, P7500XWKG1, Ver 3.1, build hmj37 P7500XWKHB ).
BUT after update to KK4 (CWM), all messages disappeared one by one. During sync it is not downloading it is deleting messages already on tab, few thousand of them.
Folders stay, but messages are empty. On update it reads messages 0 of 0.
Fortunately server is not affected.
Same happened on other tab with honeycomb 2.x after upgrade to 3.1 or 3.2!
Other clients with same set up work OK (Kaiten or similar)

HALLO! ANYBODY?
I have updated to XWKL1 and lost all my emails, just folders are there! Update was labeled as firmware but it brought 3.2, and took IMAP mail messages.
Can't say I'm able to help for sure, but it might be useful to point out that IMAP just downloads and saves a snap-shot of what is on your server, not the whole lot by default.
Have you tried going into the settings of the email client on your tab and changing the window of time that messages are downloaded?
I personally have mine set to only download messages from the past 7 days for most folders, but by default it's set to only download messages from the past 5 days and only the main inbox, with other folders needing to be set individually.
Sorry if you've already looked there, that's as much as I can offer in way of assistance!
Thanks for good will to help,
In native email there is no much settings. Interestingly Kaiten works with same server (IMAP )
It has something to do with upgrade of tab and revision of exchange, probably.
Some below and whistles were added to exchange mode and killed good old IMAP!ItIt

Anyone noticed that the Note features SMS Sync with Exchange 2010? Haven't used a Samsung Android phone before so wasn't sure if this was just a standard Samsung thing or specific to the Note but it's overall really nice. I thought this was something only available if you used Windows Mobile 6.5, but it's working great on my Note.
Anyways, just noticed it and thought it was kind of cool. Wasn't sure if anyone else had seen it as well. Here's the Guide if you're interested in learning more about it - http://help.outlook.com/en-us/beta/910552b1-c99c-4046-8bbc-9d2e8dbcbfda.aspx
Yep, this is the first Android handset I've had that does it. Nice to see Android starting to make inroads into the more advanced features of Exchange. The Note also syncs tasks, too, which is also a first for me (for Android - of course WM6.5 had these features years ago IIRC). Now if the Note could sync notes, it would be nirvana (and a pun). And if S-memo were somehow integrated with exchange notes so that your s-memos were synced with Exchange and viewable in Outlook and OWA...there are serious places Google could take this if they felt like it.

My god, the thought of this just makes me want to hurry up and deploy 2010. Screw public folders!
(we are still in test on SP 2010)
HTC started working in syncing Exchange tasks in Sense 3.0 or 3.5 as well. I can never remember which version is which.
SGS2 already syncs tasks. But I have no Exchange 2010 to test with. So not sure if SMS is supported on SGS2.
on the epic touch 4g on sprint which is there sgs2 i never had sms sync.
I've had the feature since I put the vanilla Samsung 2.3 ROM on my original AT&T GTab. I always turn it off. It was cool to see an SMS in Outlook but the sender was listed as the phone number and I couldn't reply to the SMS from Outlook. If you can reply to the SMS with Outlook with your server, then the feature is more useful.
you need exchange 2010 to do that. 2007 will let you recieve them.
Hi, I'm new here. I'm using a HTC HD2 with WM6.5 (and Office 365) and have no experience with Android. SMS sync is the main reason why I'm still on WM6.5. But the phone has been giving me problems and I've been seriously looking at alternatives. Was looking at the HTC One X plus Touchdown (exchange Activesync client app) but learnt that TD still has bugs for SMS sync.
Was very excited when I saw this thread. So I gather the Galaxy Note has it's own Samsung stock EAS client which allows SMS sync? Does it work well i.e. all texts sent and received on your phone syncs up to OWA and Outlook and vice versa? What about the Galaxy S II?
Would really appreciate your sharing your experience with this. Thanks.

Have you tried cruising the android market? I doubt that samsung is the first to have actually done this.
just a quick search of the market found this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nitrodesk.touchdownpro&feature=search_result
not sure if it would work for you, but it's a place to start. With that being said you could essentially find ANY android phone you want, but the note is still the best
touchdown will do it but one of the issues is if the carrier supports the feature. at&t just happens to support this. the sgs2 international had this functionality as well. i found this out from another person in the company i work for.
Hey guys, thanks for the reply. Yes from what I've read, Touchdown seems to be the best option out there - far ahead the competition. Plus not only do they sync the usual stuff (email, contacts, calendar, tasks), they apparently also sync notes and SMS. A godsend for me...just like WM6.1/5! I dug further and even joined the forums in Touchdown but then found out there were still bugs with SMS sync and others. So I held back. And I found this thread. I've been scouring the net just to figure out what people's experience are with each but nothing is clear. As it stands, it just appears I have 2 options:
1) Get Touchdown (full featured EAS) and hope they fix the bugs, get a newer ICS phone
or
2) Get a SGS2 or SG Note (assuming the SMS sync works well), forego the notes sync.
Or maybe wait for SGS3 and hope the SMS sync feature is carried over?
sms sync works with stock email client
anyone able to use this to SEND sms? outlook 2010 supports the feature, and the message gets as far as the outbox on the note, but for some reason, goes to the email outbox, and not the sms box.
Also - if you have any alerts configured SMS sync screws that up. I had a rule that would send me a TXT message whenever my SQL server sent an email with high importance (aka a failed job). Exchange wont do that, becasue SMS sync is on.

You can still have public folders in 2010 and theyre easy to migrate. The SMS sync is delayed (I dont use it, I use google voice) but fine.
Yeah you CAN have Public Folders, but since we just invested in a large SP2010 farm I don't WANT public folders.

I've got to ask... how is it working great? I bought a note, set up SMS Sync (on both the stock GB and the stock ICS), and neither was usable. Sure, I could send SMS from outlook fine, but:
Sent SMS did not get displayed on the phone in the email client, or the SMS client
Received SMS displayed in the email client but do not show who they are from
Received SMS in the email client can not be replied to
SMS sent via the SMS client on the phone do not display in the email client on the phone, and do not get synced to Exchange
I could go on... but basically, it wasn't usable. How did you find it?
For what it's worth, I tried Nitrodesk's thing and it wasn't any better. I have a strong suspicion Samsung may have bought it to integrate into their phones actually, as it had the same bugs.

I just bought a Samsung S3 and my experience with the native Activesync and Exchange 2010 is ok but far from great. Here's what I am experiencing:
1) The native Activesync is not matching the contact name in the Activesync Contacts with the incoming SMS message. So, when I am looking at the SMS message in the Android "MESSAGES" icon/app, I DO see a matched 'friendly' name. But, when it gets sent to Exchange via Activesync it drops the friendly name. So, in the Android EMAIL icon/app, I only see the sending phone number.
2) When I'm using the full Outlook client at a computer, I see the TXT message come in and with the full Outlook client it only shows the sender as the 'phone number' and no matching occurs there as well. I think the root cause is no matching at the phone, so it's a pass-through here.
3) When I reply to one of the SMS messages with the full Outlook client at a computer, replyabilility does work and it puts the sending phone number in the TO: field and still no matching.
4) FAIL: In OWA (Exchange 2010) there is NO replyability with the SMS message. You can select REPLY but it does not automatically fill/paste in the destination TO: and you have to manually enter it. This lack of replyability is only with OWA, but the full client.
5) Performance, is fine, messages fly great and instantly.
This is my first Android exerience. I came from a Windows Mobile phone, and I chose the Android function over the iPhone because the iPhone does not support SMS Sync. My phone is stock, no apps added except Facebook. I did try to load Touchdown but I could not get all the functions to work. All that was sync'ing was email, no contacts/SMS/Notes/Calendar....etc. I did not spend more than 10 minutes troubleshooting so I abandoned efforts.
My phone is running 4.0.4, Kernel 3.0.8- 1092717
I promptly disabled my SMS sync. I don't need all my personal text messages flowing through my employer's line of sight. Not saying I have anything to hide, but they just don't need it.

Hey all,
I recently upgraded to ICS on my samsung galaxy SII using KIES. Since the update i cannot get the stock e-mail client to show my hotmail e-mails as read on other devices.
For example, when on GB if i read an e-mail on the phone while i was out, and then checked my e-mail on my computer when i got back home. The e-mail would show as read on both devices.
But since ICS the e-mail only shows as read on the phone, is there any way to change the settings so that it works the same as it did on GB?
All other e-mail/calender/contact syncing works correctly as does sending/recieving and deleting e-mails. It is only the read massages that seems to be an issue.
My phone is not rooted and is XEU model running 4.0.3 XLPS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I had the same problem using email configured through Samsung sns.
I ended up using the exchange (push) option during setup. Once setup, goto menu / settings / tap your account / scroll down to "in case of conflict......" and change to "....... update to server"
Works for me.

Thank you for your suggestion UpInTheAir, i have tried this on my phone but i am still getting the same results :-( Do you have any other ideas?
I haven't used K9 email from Google Play since Froyo days on the HTC. You could check it out and see if that's working. The only other thing I can come up with is trying another firmware or custom ROM.
Ok, just rechecked myself. Seems to be intermittent!
I had some showing up as thread as well. I increased from 3 days to 1 month sync andlet it reload the app inbox, selected the first unread and refreshed my html email.worked, showing the previous unread message as read. Now I read another unread and or doesn't work. When back to 3 days sync and didn't work.
Bummer, just wonder if this is for just hotmail account or other. Will have to search XDA and Google to see about this bug, surely the question had been asked somewhere before?
Edit : tried a couple of modded email apks but no good.
Tried official Hotmail app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hotmail.Z7
Any changes to inbox seem to work and will show up on the Web inbox within a few minutes. Emptying the trash folder doesn't sync with the server though. Also don't know if it's a battery hog and causes wakelocks etc. yet.

Hi all. Having been with yahoo for many many (often tiring) years, sadly this isn't a new thing, it's something that comes and goes seemingly based on the whims of yahoo deciding to change their settings, potentially to try to herd users onto their (awful) mail app. Anyway, problem:
All of a sudden, my account (yahoo plus, imap) and my mothers (yahoo basic, pop) have stopped receiving emails on our 2 android phones (samsung S3 with latest ICS, & HTC wildfire with whatever was before ICS, respectively). I've read a number of forums with various suggestions, including:
- clear the app cache
- change to a different server: most suggest imap.mail.yahoo.com but others suggest imap.n.mail.yahoo.com, imap.android.mail.yahoo.com, one suggests using IMAP4 (don't know how to select this)
- delete account & reinstall
None of these work. Peversely, I AM getting emails through on imap.mail.yahoo.com, but very intermittently. I'll notice that, e.g. overnight, I'll have gotten most of yesterday's, but if i click for a manual refresh it'll fail. Likewise if I set myself up for imap.mail.yahoo.com, it'll check the settings & be ok, but then give a connection error.
My mum's phone is a slightly different problem: she can log in fine through the internet, but her username/password combo fails for pop access through the stock email app. She's a .co.uk address, & i'm wondering if this is the reason for the problem. I suspect it's just that yahoo is having a problem.
Any thoughts appreciated for both of these - potentially connected - problems.
Cheers
Dez

Address any prompts or issues you see when signing in on a desktop before trying to sign in on a third-party email app, then send a test message.
Sign in to Yahoo Mail from a web browser.
Compose a new email and add your own address in the "To" field.
Send the email.
Wait up to five minutes to see if it arrives.
Confirm app is configured with the correct POP settings or IMAP settings for Yahoo Mail. Need to find some way to DISABLE repeating email notifications...as in I keep getting repeated "new" email notifications for the same email until another, newer email comes in...I've even got notifications clicked off in the settings menu and I am still getting notifications.
Any ideas? Running Clean ROM right now, but it was happening on Novella Dos as well...one of the reasons I switched over to CR...it is quite maddening.
Thanks in advance!

thats the problem. POP3 will show a notification on any unread email. also, if you r deleting the email from the phone, you may not be deleting it from the server. POP3 gives you the option to change this in the incoming server settings. when inside the incoming server settings, you will see at the bottom that there is an option that says what the phone should do when you delete an email from the phone. if you delete it from the phone only, the email will still exist on the server. this will cause multiple notifications of the same email, even if it is marked as read.
a couple solutions:
1: if you ARE NOT deleting the emails and getting duplicate notifications, switch the account to an IMAP config. (every email host i have had gives you both options: IMAP or POP3)
2: if you ARE deleting the emails and the Incoming server setting is set to "Delete email from server: Never", you will need to change that to "When i delete from inbox". otherwise, you will have to deal with duplicate notifications. NOTE: IF YOU DELETE THE EMAIL OFF OF THE SERVER, ANY OTHER PLACE THE EMAIL IS STORED (I.E.: HOME COMPUTER, TABLET, ETC.) WILL ALSO DELETE OFF OF THOSE DEVICES.
you should also know that when deleting an email with an IMAP config will automatically delete it off of the server. IMAP will also show when you have viewed or replied to an email across all devices that are signed into the same email address as IMAP.

Thanks for the detailed response...I don't know what to say really; the problem has only happened recently, say last few weeks. I finally got fed up with it and sought a resolution.
I switch roms frequently, so I have to set up accounts frequently enough to know what is checked and my settings are default, always the same. So why the change? I guarantee I could power up my Rezound and the settings would be the same...and I never had this problem before.
Doesn't matter if the emails are read or not. Right now I have notifications off and the problem still is occurring. If I delete an email then I'm still notified for the next newest.
And last but not least, the problem has followed me across different roms. Thought it was specific to one as I had used that rom for several weeks. So maybe it is something server side. Can't configure Knology(now WOW) for IMAP, I tried. Besides, I refuse to check 'delete from server' because there are emails I need to keep that need attention from my home PC. I can change sync settings to longer periods or off, but that is not really feasible either.
So bottom line is, I just don't get it.
**Update** Not sure exactly what fixed it as I did multiple things in a short period, but the problem no longer exists. Unticked, rebooted, reticked notifications and all is good. Also loaded a different rom from bachup, but that was before I did above steps. Who knows??:fingers-crossed:
Hi,
I have a Hotmail account and wandering if there's any way to get my other folders to sync same as inbox? On the stock email app for my Mate 10 pro I can't even add the folders and Gmail lets me add them but can't get them to sync like inbox (have to manually refresh).
Sounds minor but bugs the hell out of me, there must be a way without using a 3rd party app?
Cheers in advance.
Use the Outlook app from the Playstore. It really uses push notifications and not "check every 30 minutes" or something like that.
Hi,
I have 3 hotmails accounts synchronized on the stock app of my mate 10 pro with multiple folders.
You can select the folders you want to synchronize in the stock app (sorry, my phone is set in French): go to the three dots at the bottom of the app - parameters - select your Hotmail account - folders synchronization
Here you can select by folders how you want to sync them.
Hope this helps
PS : automatic push (real time notification) is working without any issue on the stock app.
Hi @freedamdam, thanks for your reply.
I don't have that option, do you definitely use stock email app? I have the normal folder screen on left showing inbox, sent, drafts, recycle bin, etc best t not my personally created folders? The 3 dots takes me into settings but nothing in there re folders.
Also, when you set up your Hotmail did you select Hotmail or use Microsoft exchange or other? Not sure if makes difference? Just don't understand why you can't view your folders!
Thanks
Wayne
Yes, I'm using stock app, no root or whatsoever, as I was also on my P9 with the exact same options for hotmail folders.
But I think you got it,m right, you have to setup your accounts as Microsoft exchange, not Hotmail, so as to get real time push and folders options I believe.
Let us know if this works.

OK thanks again for reply
Tried adding exchange account in settings but keep getting couldn't connect to server? Tried googling settings for exchange and tried couple but still get same error message.

Thnx for the tip. Added the account as an Exchange and there is the push option.
Any tips on how to set up as exchange? Mine either gets stuck "connecting to server" or "couldn't connect to server", tried using my email as domain, imap-mail.outlook.com as server and 993 as port but can't set it up.
