[Q] 'charging.jpg' draw failed when charging [SOLVED] - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I just tried flashing the leaked ICS build from samsung through odin and I'm pretty sure something messed up somewhere because whenever I try to charge the phone when the power's off, it shows "'charging.jpg' draw failed". Also whenever reboot the phone it goes into the recovery and hitting 'reboot now' only starts up my android. I've tried everything- factory reset, wiping cache, reflashing new roms; nothing has worked. I read that it could be a corrupted param. Not sure what that is. Please help!!

Its a Alpha unstable test build what else will have have but problems .

Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .
jje

None of that worked. I actually managed to solve it. Someone over at the i777 forums had a similar problem and fixed it by flashing a stock param file. I got the i9100 param file from this link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315401&highlight=param
For anyone else who's facing this problem, use mobile odin to flash it 'cause it doesn't increase your binary counter

Galaxy s 2 wont start

Hello ppl,
i got a big problem, i hope someone can help me.
A friend of mine, gave me his galaxy s 2 to fix it. It just showed the battery icon with a circle running into it.
I fixed it with the JIG and got into download mode.
Everything is fine until now, even the flash with Odin shows success, but the phone just wont start up.
It doesnt matter what i do, or flash, its stuck in the samsung galaxy s II screen.
Download Mode is working, but Recovery not. When i try to enter the recovery mode, the phone hangs with the same screen like above.
Is there anything i could try to fix this?
Thank you
geminga
Okay relax, as you can get into download mode, there's a chance that you can still fix it.
I think you're running the wrong kernel or modem here.
I advice you to freshly install a new rom, and then install a CF-Rooted kernel that allows you to get back into recovery.
Once you got that worked out, get into recovery and select Wipe/factory reset. It should boot now.
If this still does not solve your problem, install VillainRom 2.0 using the process described in the thread. I had the bootloop problem too, but Wiping, Flashing and Wiping again did the trick for me.
Thank you mate I will try this later. Im will report if I was successful. (i hope so)
I flashed 2.3.4 ROM with Odin and then CF-Recovery but i can still not access recovery mode. It shows the yellow triangel but still hangs with the samsung galaxy screen.
I think that phone has become a nice paperweight...
As 2.3.4 is a test release i would try older stable firmware .
Flash a stock 2,3,3 rom via Odin and see if it boots .
jje
Is there something for Samsung that completely replaces everything including ROM,recovery and such things?
From my desire I know, if a RUU can't boot your phone it is 100% bricked. So I need something like that for that sgs2, to be sure that this is no hardware failure...
I will try some flashes and report after that.
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using XDA App
what i would do is install one of these carrier branded ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
and see if it boots, if it does then flash the cfroot [specific to the carrier version you choose e.g. KF2] make sure thats the right one. that should give you recovery as prodygee has said. then do a full wipe, system, data, cache, dalvik and reboot.
afaik this should work. that's worked for me on numerous bootloops!
Hope this helps, Rumble
solved [Arrow Galaxy s 2 wont start]
i just followed this link... >>1.Make sure that your phone is Samsung Galaxy S2 not any other. If you try this process on any other phone then the phone will be damaged.
2.Create a backup of your all useful phone data with the help of backup apps that ensure your phone data.
3.This process will take several minutes or may be hours so make sure that your phone battery consumption is maximum.
4.Remove the SIM card and external storage SD card.
5.Download both these files.
Download Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXKGI Firmware
Odin3 v 1.83
Procedure for Update Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I9100 to Gingerbread XXKG1 2.3.4 Firmware.

it worked perfectly for me

[Q] Failed firmware "upgrade"

From Villain rom I tried to revert back to the stock rom.
I used CWM to do this.
At first proces seemed to go normally when it was done I saw the default Samsung bootscreen and also the yellow warning sign was gone. Entering the home screen got 1 or two messages about applications crashing... now that didn't feel right.
Problems:
- Buildnumber still states "VillainROM 1.20".
- CWM is visible. But any backup or update action results in crashing of the app.
- Recovery mode. When entering it seems to claim to be updating. After that's done I can browse for updates but it doesn't show any ZIP to select.
- Download. Immediately when entering it states "Downloading...". I can connect with Odin. But trying to apply any update results in a BSoD.
When entering recover mode I see this:
Code:
-- Copying media files..
Successfuly copied meida files.
-- Updating application..
Successfully updated application.
-- Applying Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
Can't access to '/system/csc/XEN/system/'
Succesfully applied multi-CSC.
Seems like what I did wrong was that I should've changed the kernel first. The firmware update didn't complete finish. However I'm no expert.
I guess I screwed up. Hope that there's someone out there that can help me...
Who told you to use CWM..Unless you have built a CWM compatible stock rom .
You flash stock files via Odin as per the instructions in the stock rom post .
jje
I had a driver issue with my laptop. Figured I could just as easily use CWM. It was a stupid move..
Question is if and how I can fix this.
Flash stock rom via Odin .
jje
When entering Download Mode it immediately states "Downloading.. Do not turn of the target". I can connect with Odin, however it crashed into a BSoD as soon as tries to upload "boot.bin".
Load correct firmware to Odin as per the instructions .
Put phone to download mode and follow the instructions on that page .
Then connect cable should have yellow bar in Odin >> Start flash .
#Fail wrong firmware or format not a tar file .
jje
I did all steps before. Yes I do see a yellow bar and therefore I presume it does connect. That's also why I can start the firmware update in Odin.
The problem seems to be that updating the phone hasn't fully finished and it's state is somewhere in the middle. Both Download Mode and Recovery Mode seem to try to resume a previous process.
I wonder if it's at all possible to restart or resume the update. Basically trying to abort whatever it is those modes are trying to do.
That's at least what it looks like to me.
Maybe I just created a lost cause. I'll just have to send it back and except the consequences. Though I still hope there is way to fix it....
Recovery mode format and wipe as much as you can and factory reset .Then flash .
If it has to be service centre say you where updating with Kies and it stopped working .
jje
Sadly enough wiping didn't help.
Guess I'll have to send it back. I'll try blaming KIES but I figure they'll be smart enough to verify that that's not true.
Ah well, lesson learned.

Hi. I also had this problem. After a while I found that my files was named ....tar.md5 and when I removed the ".md5" at the end it worked as expected...
I'm a noob and haven't done this much. Thanks for this useful post!

SDS S3, Need Help Flashing Please

Hi all,
Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300, UK, Orange
All stock firmware, updated to JB Novemberish time
Recovery mode works
Download mode works
PC will not recognise as mass storage, but Odin will recognise that an S3 is connected
So my S3 came down with sudden death before Christmas (annoyingly just 3 days before the fix came out) - it's stuck at the boot screen flashing 'Samsung' over and over. I can get into both recovery and download, USB mass storage fails but I think Odin recognises it's a phone. Tried all the very basic fixes like taking the battery out, wiping the cache, etc., haven't done a factory reset yet as I'm trying to save my data if possible as my backups failed.
I want to try flashing the phone with stock to see if this will fix it/possibly fix it without wiping my data at the same time (not much to lose if it's just going to be reset otherwise anyway) but I'm completely new to all of this and only learnt what the words Odin and flashing mean in the past few weeks.
So my questions are:
1) Should I flash the whole stock firmware found on Sammbile or just the boot recovery .tar file, what's the difference between these files and what is a 'resurection rom'?
2) If I should flash the whole stock, should I flash the ICS firmware that came with my phone or should I try the new ELLA one as it's an update not a downgrade?
3) Can someone walk me through which file goes in which Odin box please - PDA, PHONE, BOOTLOADER, etc.
Simple & thoroughly explained answers appreciated
if it's a sudden death, there's no way of recovering the data

Ahh thanks, I had a read of a few of these but I missed the 'for the ultimate noob' one
I've got the USB drivers installed correctly on my pc, I think the phone just won't boot up far enough to do whatever it does to be mass storage at its end.
I've tried pulling my files via ADB as well and nothing.
My problem is there doesn't seem to be a way of getting my data off my phone onto my pc as my phone won't boot. So as a long shot, I'm trying to fix the booting problem by flashing it, hopefully without wiping any data, so then I could boot properly and rescue my files.
My question is what would be the best way to go about attempting this: flashing the whole stock firmware file, or just the boot loader file?
SD means a dead phone impossible to do anything with .
Download mode yes then flash stock firmware via Odin ..

I thought SD meant a soft brick, ie. stuck in bootloop but with the possibility of recovery/download modes, whereas a dead phone is hard bricked?
Ok thanks
Sd means "softbrick" or "sudden death" depending on who abbreviates it.
Sudden death is a full hardware brick ( no chance of recovery), softbrick can be fixed through recovery, download mode and/or jig

Big problem with 2 different boards mothers!

Friends,
I have a problem and need lots of help.
My S3 started to not charge more for usb.
I took him on a assistance and exchanged the USB connector
He worked for 1 week and stopped .... ok I was carrying with the external charger.
However one day he simply stop in the screen sansung not spent more that point even after leaving it on hours ... im took him for official Samsung maintence and was told that the mother board was damaged and needed replacing.
Well as I am persistent, I downloaded the original rom in SamMobile and tried to install the recovery
And then ... he does everything right but always hangs in part: updating partition details ... failed
And give not pass this part even putting a cyanogenmod or sentinel ... simply does not pass.
Ok!
I bought a plate of another S3 used.
I replaced the mother board and the s3 started normally
However the android was older, with a lot of app "VIVO" (mobile carrier here in Brazil) that left the s3 a turtle.
So I downloaded the newest version of the original room in SamMobile and tried to install in the Recovery.
Guess what!
updating partition details ... failed
Imagine my face after buying a new board and still have the same error.
Moreover the phone is now no operating system and only accesses the recovery.
Now I'll describe what I've tried:
I tried to install via TWRP 2.0 - the problem remains in the original room and other rooms modified error appears Sector 7
Tried by clockwokmod 6.0.4.5 - the problem remains in the original room and other rooms modified error sector 7 appears
tried formatted the internal card and nothing
I tried a wipe data factory reset and nothing
tried a wipe chache and nothing.
I'm simply no options and no help.
Please can someone help me?
Sorry for my bad english!

Flash the rescue firmware with Odin, then factory reset, follow the instructions exactly. If that won't flash then your emmc chip is damaged.

Hello friend,
thanks for trying to help me.
Before seeing your message I got intalar the original room via odin.
But the question still persists.
Why does this not installing via Recovery.
For those who are into the same problem I did following:
accessed the site and downloaded the official SamMobile room for i9300 zto
Unzipped the file
I opened odin 3.9
I selected the file. Md5 of the original room
I installed via Odin ...
Now is working.

If it is the partition problem, you have to go back to Samsung for a new motherboard. Try flashing other 4.3 roms on sammobile. You dun have to flash one from ur country.

[Q] Bricked, Flashing via Odin stuck at NAND WRITE START!!

Hey guys, I just f***ed my phone up.
This is what happened
First of all, I'm sorry for my bad english, as I'm not a native speaker
I'm using Archi Droid v3.0.2, while playing a game my phone suddenly rebooted, I thought it was just overheated, but I got a bootloop, I tried to wipe cache & dalvik, reboot my phone... bootloop. I made it to the lockscreen though, but after 5 seconds it will reboot again. I'm wiping my phone through Philz & clean install the Archi Droid ROM, aanndd, still, bootloop. So I tried to restore my Lollipop backup (I downgraded my device to Kitkat because Lollipop is not as sweet as Xposed & A.D. ) and ... I can boot, BUT I CAN'T connect to the Internet, everytime my phone got "H+" signal on the top of the screen, the screen will flicker and signal will be lost (over and over). I can still make calls & sms though (if i turned the mobile data off). Then I tried to factory reset my Lollipop, and at first boot, it says "Installing Apps (or something) ... of 98" I thought it wouldn't install or upgrade any apps after factory reset. THEN I got bootloop again. I gave up, flashed stock firmware via Odin, succeeded. Going through setup & realized I still got this network problem, so i factory reset my stock 4.3 rom & after it finished... Planning to setup my phone and after 10 seconds I got bootloop again. I got a feeling (my feeling sucks) that this is a partition problem. So I tried to flash .pit file with samsung 4.3 stock firmware, and I'm stuck at "NAND WRITE START!!" in Odin. After praying for 1 hour I decided to remove the battery and disconnect my phone from the PC. Now everytime I flash something via odin, it will always stuck at "NAND WRITE START!!"
I want to try this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/solved-pit-bricked-dead-problem-gt-t2535367) though, but I'm afraid to mess my phone up even more.
Now I'm unable to flash ANYTHING into my phone, I need some (a lot of) help here. I'm going to university and asking for a new phone will get me into trouble (they will give me a $10 phone for sure). Thanks in advance
