After a night time charge, my phone started to perform strange and I can't seem to get out of the situation.
It started with the temperature display showing on the battery when turning on. I am unable to start the phone, without it being connected to a powered on charger.Without a powered cable in, it just powers off, then goes back to the battery / temp display.
Upon starting, the phone runs fine, apart from the fact that it thinks there is something plugged into the USB port. This sometimes shows itself as the phone thinking it's still being charged to it thinking it's plugged in as a USB data connection. The USB port has been cleaned with the same outcome.
The phone can go from showing 0% charge to being flagged up as fully charged in under 10 minutes. Power the phone off and it will revert to charging as normal.
I'm unable to connect Odin to reflash as the USB port is detected as "unknown" device and I've tried this on numerous machines with the same outcome.
I'm unable to boot into recovery mode with clockworkmod, this coming up with the standard samsung boot options.
Is there a rom that I can copy over the phone, that will pass the Samsung validation check for ROM installation with the Down / power / action button combo.
I getting a bit frustrated with this at the moment, so any help advised will be great.
Cheers
Same thing happened to me, kinda, flash hyperdroid 4.0,you won't be sorry and it'l fix your. Problem.

try cleaning the usb port mate if it has dirt/dust/fluff in there it can cause big issues http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132588 that thread may help a bit
it could also be abad battery causing issues
i would try
#reading that thread and trying the fixes
#putting phone back to stock ie factory reset or flahing a new rom and kernel
#ordering a new battery
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Cheers for all the info so far.
Things tried.
Different battery
USB port cleaned with isopropyl alcohol with both Qtip and new tooth brush.
Numerous factory resets
Battery left out for an hour for full reset
Wipes with CMW recovery with SD card in and Out
I am unable to connect to a machine, so I am unable to use Odin to reflash.
I've just ordered a Jig, so will try that as soon as it arrives.
I'll try the hyperdroid 4.0. Does that flash ok with the stock bootloader as the CWM recovery does not boot, even though the phone is rooted ok.

Well an update to my issues.
The Jig turned up today, after two inserts the usb port occasionally was detected correctly. This gave me enough time to reload the kernal.
After another Jig reset (successfull this time) I was able to connect to Odin and reflash the handset.
The battery is still reporting funny things (goes from 60% to full in 5 minutes or charges normally) so I'll be doing a few more resets / wipes and reinstallations to see if I get to a normal place.
Thanks for all your help.
I have the similar problem as yours.
From time to time the phone thinks its connected to USB.When this happenes I get a "Batery Overvoltaged" reading using Batery Spy App. And I can't connect to my PC using USB. The other thing happening is the phone is waking up as soon as I turn it off and if I try to turn it off again it freezes and u need to reset or pull the batery out. I though I solved the problem when I left the phone off without batery for 12 hours but that only worked for a day and now it started again this time it switches to driving mode on and off, and USB connection. I tried Hard reset ,reverting to a stable ROM with CWM , cleaning the port with alcohol, puting the phone without the back cover and the battery in a bowl of rice for 12hours(water damage?) , cleanng caches, battery stats, different kernels, removed the SD card.
I don't know what trigers this but it drains battery fast and I too had the batery going from 30% to zero in a flash and the fast charginng atleast once. Couple of times the phone even started by itself when inserted back the batery...
Please keep me posted with your progress, I surfed google and found this particular problem several times in other places so it happens more often than I though, but no one posted a fix, or atleast what is causeing the problem

It all started when i tried to root my Samsung Galaxy S2.
I tought it was to confusing to use the long way of rooting so i used to supercurio auto root kernel. I followed the instructions and everything went fine, but when the phone rebooted (like it said it would) it got frozen at the Yellow Triangle boot screen. After this i tried to flash many different kernels without luck, i tried to flash firmware roms aswell but that didn't work either.
The battery seems to be depleted and there is no way for me to open the Download Mode.
Im really new to the android world and i would be the happiest man in the world if i could possibly get the right answers.
P.s! When my phone actually had battery i couldn't open the Recovery Mode
No download mode then you need the USB recovery jig ebay/Google .
With a charged battery .
jje
But i can't charge it since the phone is stuck at the empty battery icon with the looping circle in it (which is stuck aswell). The phone just gets hotter when i try to charge it but i doesn't do any good at all
I think you'll just have to buy a jig and find a way to charge the battery again.
Maybe you can try a full battery from a friend?
Or charges yours in the Galaxy S II of a friend.
After that just try to reflash en wipe everything in cwm.
Good luck!
OKey, thanks for the reply but what does the USB jig really do? I have heard that it only boots the phone into download mode. But even if that works it still wont get the phone to operate as it should since i tried to flash different kernels before when i had battery left.
If i charge the phone right now, it will first show me the empty battery and then it just reboots back to the battery icon. If i press Volume down - Home - Power button it just says that i have to low battery and that it wont go into download mode. Recovery mode has not worked since the first time i tried to flash to Supercurio's auto kernel.
Plz help!
The experts should explain it better but the jig I think allows you to write data directly to the nand. There should be external chargers for the s2, you could try searching for that too.
I suppose what you should take away from this is that it pays to avoid shortcuts. I'm pretty sure it says on the cf thread that the auto root doesn't work on the phone.

Maybe you should try once more flashing a complete stock rom with repartion and pit.
A jig just puts your device into download mode.
It is very cheap on Ebay.
I don't think it is smart to try charging.
I once had a problem like this with the original Galaxy S .
I went to shop where I bought the phone and asked for a battery.
Just try to get a full battery and jig.
I think that is your only chance...
Good luck!
Have you tried letting it charge for some while? The S2 gets a little hot when charging so thats probably not a problem, if i were you i would let it charge for an hour or so and then try to enter download mode again
Thanks but if i plug the phone in with the charger nothing really happens. On the screen it's just a empty battery and within that battery there is some kind of circle that should be swirling but it is frozen, therefor i dont think the phone is actually getting any power...
Even if i set it up with a USB jig and a new battery, what kind of kernel should i use? And should i flash it with a new firmware?
I really have no clue on this one.
The phone only reacts to the button combination regarding download mode, but whilst in there it just says "low battery !! Can't download !!" and that's it.
Any more advices? I will die of happiness if someone helps me with this!
Thanks.
Looks like you need a service centre
or flash stock rom via Odin after accessing download mode via buttons or recovery jig .
You dont want a kernel you want full new stock firmware .
jje
Yea i got that now, but i live in sweden and before all of this i tried the swedish firmware version and it just says FAIL! in Odin.. im sure it would work out if i could get the firmware to reset the phone, which it does right? I guess i should fix me a battery since it seems i can't charge it properly. Any one who could explain it more detailed? It would help me alot.
Hey guys,
My beloved Galaxy S2 is broken, I think.
The only thing that I can pinpoint to be causing my problems is that it got dropped this morning from knee height onto tiles, it was a fairly soft impact on the top of the phone. It's had harder knocks before.
The problems began about an hour after I dropped it. It was sitting on my desk and randomly came up with the MTP initialization notification, as if I had plugged the USB cable in, then it opened up the desk clock app, as if I plugged it into the smart dock.
My problem is now that all my computers won't recognise the device and I get the USB device not recognised error message, even when in download mode, so there is no way for me to flash back to the stock firmware to send it in for warranty.
Right now it has the USB connected notificaiton and it's not plugged into anything, and when I turn it off, it turns back on and if I remove and reinsert the battery it also turns on itself. I reset it and cleared cache and dalvik cache etc but still the same issue.
Also, I had a bit of trouble getting it to turn on before, it was coming up with the battery indicator and then a logo with an empty battery a caution triangle (yellow triangle with black exclamation point) and a thermometer, as if it's saying it has overheated, which it has not. The only way to turn it on now is to plug it in and wait till it's charging and then press the power button.
I don't know where to go from here, I have created backups with ROM manager and backed up my apps and settings with titanium backup, and I can't flash stock firmware to send it in for repair, I have reset the download counter with a usb jig.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Factory reset .
But this looks a service centre job i am afraid you have broke the USB and more .
jje
Makes sense that it's a hardware issue, if I open up battery monitor on it, it always seems to think theAC adapter is plugged in.
I just need to install the original firmware on it so it doesn't look like it's been rooted etc.
I guess I'll have to flash it through recovery from my Micro SD card.
Sounds like two of the wires in the microUSB connector is shorting out or the soldering from the microUSB to the PCB has been damaged.
Is there any way for me to flash stock firmware via recovery/without connecting to PC, I found the firmware I need but the downloads aren't zip files
Thanks
Good Luck
Can you connect to odin in download mode? You can flash the stock firmware using this method, the problem is the binary flash counter that is on the SGS2. It can be reset using a jig but there is a secondary counter that lists how many times the first counter has been reset. I dont know of a work around for this yet so sending your device back for service will probably end in tears
That's the problem, I can't connect by USB to flash with odin. It seems to work for a bit if I remove the battery and reinsert it but I'm not willing to rely on it working for the time it takes to flash a ROM. Though on second thought worst case scenario is I can say I tried to update it to fix the problem and it failed and now I have a brick.
I do have a USB jig and my download counter is reset, so if they only check the download counter at the service centre then I guess I could get away with a warranty repair.
Thanks
If your custom rom counter is zero i would take it to a service centre and say it failed during a Kies update .

All is well, took it to get repaired, all sorted and got it back same day
They replaced the whole LCD and the front of the phone
Get a toothbrush and brush the MICRO-USB-port
Since 2 days i have this problem.
When i connect my phone to the adapter it takes several seconds before it actually charging. But when it's full and i dissconnect it from the adapter it just keeps saying that my battery is full and i have to remove the charger.
When i connect my phone to the computer its keeps saying that he doesn't recognize the usb connecter.
What i have tried so far.
- Trying different chargers/cables
- Trying to update software but this can't be done without cable @ me
- Trying to clean up de usb port in the phone
- Battery reset
I have searched whole google and this forum but couldn't find anything related to this. so sorry if it's a repost
First up, do a factory reset. Back your stuff up before, obviously.
What rom/kernel are you running ?

When i did the factory reset it went in a bootloop for some reason.
I am using 2.6.35.7 codeworkx clockworck. I have rooted the phone and put clockworck on it nothing more... and it always worked fine.
I noticed something new. When i put off my phone you see the battery and next to it you see a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark in it. After that it changes into to a temperature meter showing it's to hot but i allready checked it and it's only 37 degrees.
First of all try the most obvious method such as turning on USB debugging. If that doesnt work go to the method below:
There is no need to do a factory reset. Just reflash your rom or flash a new one but make sure you have done a backup of your files. It worked for me

Sounds like the battery and/or the usb/charging circuitry/components might be on the fritz.
Try Steve's suggestion first (re-flash your rom or another rom), if that doesn't work, try another battery. Or even another charger. Tho you said you're seeing problems when you hook it up to a PC via USB.
If you get the same result after re-flashing same/different rom & with a different battery it would probably be a hardware fault.
I'd flash stock first & try that before restoring any backup, that would give you an indication of whether its a hardware issue (particularly with a different battery).
Hey, This is my first post so hopefully i didnt pick the wrong section to write in
So here it is.. A while ago my phone started acting crazy.. voice command started up.. turned off, started up again.. MTP started ( like i was plugging in USB cable) on and off and on and off again.. This was after i had rooted my phone for the first time.. but i was on stock rom at that point when all happend..
Now when im trying to charge my phone it takes like 30-60 sec till it starts charging.. same when i unplug the phone, takes 30-60 seconds for the phone to realise that there is no cable connected to the phone..
Can't turn off the phone.. when i turn it off its black for a few seconds then the samsung logo pops up and the phone boots up again.. and some times when i turn off the phone the battery logo appears and it shows that the battery is over heated..
This is what i have tryed:
- Re flashing, alot of diffrent roms
- Factory reset
- Format System, sd card, data
- Flash back to stock rom
Thx / Wrix
I remember seeing this issue in a few threads last year. Check this thread out as it lokos to be the same issues they were having http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174291&page=6
It seems some had to return their device and others were able to get it working again by cleaning out the micro usb port with a toothbrush. Worth trying. If nothing works, maybe you will have to return it. Hopefully not though
Thx alot.. Will take a look at the link you posted and see if there is something i can do to fix this issue.. hopefully i wont have to send it in to repair cuz i have rooted it.. dunno if samsung can see that if i use USB Jig ? hopefully not but will try with toothbrush to see if it works!
Again thx alot for the advices
EDIT: Toothbrush didnt work at all ;(
/Wrix
Just make sure you reset the counter and you should be fin returning it.
Your device should still be under warranty. I'd wipe, flash the stock ROM that you had on it when you bought it and use the jig if you have one. Then see about getting it returned. Good luck!
I had a recent soft bricked due to some "unknown" problems which I couldn't figure out.
Anyways,I was able to boot into download mode and successfully flashed the stock jellybean firmware via Odin.
Now the problem is that my battery is empty and the phone is stuck on an what I think is an "Empty Battery Bootloop" was the battery icon blinking every 5 seconds or so.
Any ideas how to revive it ?
PS : I am unable to boot into recovery as well.
I have attached a screenshot of the issue I am facing.
Ur screenshot says... 404 error
Re-linked.
Maybe something went wrong while you were flashing the ROM via odin. First of all did you tick Only the right options while flashing in odin?
Supposing you did,
1. Maybe the ROM file which holds information for your battery might be facing curroption.
2. Maybe the kernel (the default one coming with the stock ROM) was not flashed properly.
In either case, I would suggest trying to boot into download mode and try to flash the whole thing all over again. If the problem persists, flash a different kernel/ROM or both.
II'm pretty sure that should fix the problem though.

Tried flashing via Odin for like three consecutive days.Still no luck.
I have googled it and found out that some users were facing the same problem when their battery was completely empty and the phone wont start because it didnt had enough juice to boot up.You know how to solve that problem?

Just keep it on charging wid 0.7mA or a 1mA charger for few hrs... if still it doesnt work..use a usb cord to charge via lappy...
Also use someone else's battery to boot up... and make a wipe data via stock recovery
Charged with USB for about 4-5 Hours.I cant get hold of a 1mA charger here.Using another battery is nearly impossible for me since none of my friends seem to have a S2.
Any other phone which has a battery identical to ours? (Or a Samsung phone with 4 pins possibly.)

Nope. Don't try a battery not designed for the device. Asking for trouble.
Time to change it with a new battery or hook up with an external charger?
PS : Took it to a local mobile repair shop and asked for a universal battery charger.
When I gave him the battery, the first thing he asked was if the phone ever got wet.
He said there's some I don't know what on the battery due to licking it.
I recently replaced the charging circuit from a trusted Samsung shop and he says it's totally fine.
Seems like some kind of corrosion on the battery.Any ideas on how to remove it ?
Anyone ?
