[Q] HTC Weather App Unable to Detect My Current Location - HTC EVO 3D

HTC Weather App is Unable to Detect My Current Location. I have turned WiFi on, GPS on, and all areas where detecting or sharing my location is turned on. It was working fine then the widget became locked on a location and would not change with my current location no matter what I done. I could turn the phone off and back on this would fix the issue for a little bit. Then the widget would either lock onto a location and refuse to change or it would display Current Location instead of my real location but the weather would not be correct. I would then try to refresh the weather and a grey bubble would appear and have the text Unable to Detect My Current Location. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? I am on the Wildshooter ROM but this issue has happened with every rom I have tried including the stock Rom. I also tried the Accuweather App and had the same issue. Is there a way to change the weather server for HTC's weather app?
I tried searching for a fix and everything I found nothing worked.

Here is a pic of what the weather application and widget is doing.

try setting "allow mock locations", maybe that would help? look in:
menu/settings/applications/development/

Man this problem bugged me for a good while. Here what I did and hopefully it will help you. Turn on wifi and try to update weather. Then turn off wifi. Then turn on mobile internet and also make sure to enable always on mobile in settings as well. Then try to update weather and it should find your location.

Enabling Background Data
I noticed that when Background Data is not enabled, some apps don't sync. Making sure it's enabled may help. It's found under Settings > Accounts & sync > Background data.

Thanks for both of the suggestions but neither worked for me. Still stuck on current location.

Did you turn off wif completely and only enable mobile data???

yes. I even went into manage apps and cleared the data to the HTC weather sync provider. Nothing seems to work. I really dont want to get rid of the weather and clock widget but the weather is worthless. My city is not located in the location either. I was hoping that the current location feature would work as it was intended. I wonder if there would be a way to change weather providers and use google or weather.com or something like that.
I know gps works because google maps shows my location.
Anymore suggestions?............

Try this
Get rid of the weather widget on your home screen if you have one there. Then
clear the data once again on the weather app & the weather widget app in settings. Then turn off mobile data, back ground data, gps, location by wireless network and disable/uncheck always-on mobile data as well. Then boot into recovery and wipe cache & davlik cache. After you've rebooted back into your rom turn on gps, "leave location by wireless network unchecked" then turn on mobile data, background data and enable/check always-on mobile data. Then open up your app drawer and tap on the weather app and press menu then select add/+. Then put in your location. After it brings up your location then select it. The app should go black then just press menu then refresh. Then back out of the app until you see your home screen. Then add the widget back to your home screen and see if it displays your weather location. I hope it does. If not then go back to accounts & sync and select weather and sync it. Then check to see if it helped the issue. Also have you checked to make sure your under sprint only and not automatic in the mobile network settings???

Ok I followed these instructions to the T and the end result is t still didn't correct my issue. After I rebot my phone it fixes the issue for a few mins and then it screws up and get stuck on current location. I am at a loss for words. I have read several other places on the internet with other people with HTC phones having this same issue but there were no fixes. It seems like there is an issue with the GPS communitating with the weather app. IDK and IDK how to fix it! Still open to suggestions................. Thanks to everyone who is trying to help me.

Ok I finally broke down and called HTC the rep advised me that this is a known issue that is a problem on all HTC devices. He said that a fix for this is most likely going to be rolled out in the next few weeks. He said there were some other issues that will be corrected in the next update. He said not to worry that also in the next few weeks ICS will start to slowly roll out to our phones and the issue is corrected on this as well.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.
I have a similar issue where my location on the weather app is shown as United Kingdom. It use to work fine until I messed with the radios, could be just coincidence though.
Anyone know a fix ?
thanks
edit.. should mention it's been the same on my last 2 different roms.

Did you try any of the tips here ???
#Root-Hack_Mod*Always\

Found this after having similar problem with HTC weather. On HTC one S, running ICS and the weather occasionally cannot find my location so just returns "Null" location and "01. Partly cloudy" weather.
Noticed because am using live wallpaper. This runs for 10ish secs before freezing, which I believe is normal, but also rarely animates. It does not run if phone unlocked, or when weather is updated, or when returning to home screen. Beautiful, but useless it seems!

I wish there was a fix for this.
My location will never detect properly. I live in a city in the stix, so my city wont showup in the settings of weather thing, is there a way i could get my zip code in it even if it doesnt show up in the list of cities?

Hi all.
I just got mine working after going to Settings/Location/Google Location Reporting and turned it off. Now displaying my area.
Hope this helps.
Device x920d

On Desire s i had same problem and resolve it.
I just untick fast boot in power menu, turn off/on phone and location get back fine.

[Q] GPS Icon in the Notification Area even when it is off

Hey guys, I don;t really use GPS on my Galaxy Player 4'', but I have notices that it will all the sudden display the GPS icon in the notification area even when it is off. I have disabled GPS and the "Use wireless networks" option, but the icon will appear at least once a day and won't disappear until I reboot the device. It just keeps blinking over and over until I reboot the device.
I have noticed it drains my battery way to quick when that icon appears (uses about 10% when the deviced is locked), which is crazy because it uses about (2%) battery power when it is locked during the night and the player does not shows that GPS icon in the notification area. I have killed pretty much every single application I have been able to kill to find out what app is trying to use GPS, but the icon won't go away no matter what process I kill. I use juicedefender and it has really improve my battery life, but when that icon appears, my device still will waste about 10% battery power even when it is locked with no apps running. Cannot explained why this is happening.
Has any of you had this problem?
Thank you
Try reseting to factory default, my batttery life on galaxy 4.0 is incredible.
I've had the same problem on my 5.0. I figured out it was an app that was constantly trying to get a gps signal. Simply going into the app and the exiting out seems to solve it however. It still happens but going into the app and exiting out helps. I would try to figure out which app is constantly trying to connect and if you don't use it very frequently uninstall it.

Difficult to pinpoint this app.
Do anybody know any way to log what app is using (or trying to use) GPS?
I noticed this happening today. I have my notification bar hidden, so not sure how often this happens. I could make it go away by turning on GPS and GPS Test, then back off. I checked for apps that might be trying to find a location in running services, killed a couple "maybes", but the icon kept blinking. Only app I installed today was Simple Calendar Widget, but didn't see anything in it's options that would be pinging location...
I have Power Tudor that shows how much juice apps are using while you monitor them, the only app there that looked like it could be was something like "system_1025" or something like that.... nothing I could find to stop it.

Also use Simple Calendar Widget, but I don't think it's the reason.
Did you use Samsung Dive recently? I did, in order to test the ring, lock and location service provided from within Dive. The service running on device tries to establish a GPS connection even if GPS is disabled. I didn't make a location trace, only a simple location test.
After reboot GPS icon do not show up any more ...
Looks like Google Latitude might be the culprit. Try opening it and signing out of that service. Also go into "Settings" --> "Location and security" and uncheck "Use Sensor Aiding". Once I turned those off the GPS Notification went away.
What does sensor aiding do anyway? Sure doesn't help the Compass!
I had the same issue with my HTC ONE M8 I did the same process as you. Went into my settings found my battery usage and saw what was draining my battery. It was groupon. So I force stopped the app and the GPS notification went away.

"Can't find location" randomly appearing on Home Screen

All of a sudden today, when unlocking my phone, I've seen this message pop up on the home screen for like 2 seconds. I figured it was just a random fluke and powered down but then when I went to click on refreshing my weather widget which is always set to the same zip code, it happened again. This widget is set to manual refresh, I have to click it to get an updated forecast. Then it happened again a few minutes later after simply unlocking the screen like it was doing earlier.
I've had Network Location services for wifi and gps turned off for a good 3 weeks or so. I only activate those on an as-needed basis. I don't use any apps that acquire my location (weather, facebook, etc.) I have the bear minimum apps running in 'Running Services' and I'm running the configuration in my sig (UnNamed, Entropy's DD, ICScrewd Theme). Any ideas what's going on?
does it happen every time you refresh the weather widget?
if it does I would try a different widget, just to see whether it goes away.
I just had GMail do this to me this morning (when I tried to refresh - I have that set to manual). I turned on location services (wifi and GPS) and let it get my location, then turned them back off. That seemed to take care of it. Might be a cookie based kind of thing - I loaded a new ROM yesterday and hadn't let it get a lock yet.
I just remembered that I updated Google Maps yesterday via the Market. I think that's the culprit. I can't see any setting though which I can change to disable automatic updating. I've gotten this message now like 3 times this morning.
Ive temporarily turned on Location Services for wifi/GPS but I prefer them off as I get much better battery life with them disabled.

This seems to be happening to me more and more. Cannot pinpoint the culprit.
is this still an issue for anyone? It certainly is for me

ASUS Weather Widget Accuweather.com

anyone having issues with this widget?
i'm connected to my wi-fi at home .
and i have "auto-refresh my current location" selected and it is displaying a different city . even when i do a manual search and input my city , it still shows the sun out on the widget.
seems a little buggy, i'm on ICS , 4.0
I always found that the auto refresh location never got my city right on the weather widget (it was close though). That being said, manual search always got things working right for me. If you're using the Asus task manager widget (or any task manager in general), I recommend getting rid of it, it tends to screw things up.
Same, always displays somewhere. 20 mikes off. I just use the manual search.

Hi,
My problem is same as your, auto-refresh my current location will go to somewhere ~10 miles away, not my current city. So I will use manual search to locate my current city. However my big problem is even I set the update frequency for every hr, but it not. Everytime I need to go to the widget setting and click "refresh" then the weather got updated. Is it because the TP sleep mode and will never update?
I think the Deep Sleep state pretty much kills any wireless data connections in order to preserve battery life. I also think it suspends most non-essential apps for the same reason. If this is the case it makes sense that the Weather Widget wouldn't update while the tablet is in deep sleep.

So this is the problem that everytime I wake up the TP, I would like to get the latest weather info, but everytime I need to manual update so I know what is the current temp. I hope there is some update later when wake up from the sleep mode the weather will be automatic updated. Thanks.
I set mine to update every hour but it doesn't refresh itself..
Guess GPS SHOULD have stayed on the Spec list.
For those who find it doesn't find the correct city, guess what? I hope you aren't one of those who said "I'll never use GPS on a tablet anyway", because that's EXACTLY why it won't find your city. It is doing "course" location using Google's DB of Wifi mac addresses.. Without the "Fine" location awareness that GPS brings to the table, thats about as good as it is likely to get. If you doubt this, go to settings, location, and make sure GPS is enabled, then take the tablet outside and run any location aware app such as Google Maps. NOW try to find your city.
It will work now, assuming you don't have one of the fairly high percentage of tablets that get NO GPS whatsoever.
I haven't bothered on my Prime because I check my phone more frequently for weather and temp, but on my phone I found the only weather app that refreshed when it was supposed to was in Fancy Widgets.
Weather widget Fix
I found a workable fix for my Asus Transformer Prime.
1. Get a app backup and back up apps to the removable micro sd and make sure they are there!
2. Unmount drive and set aside.
The pinhole with a paperclip didn't work for me so this is my alternate method.
3. Power down and power back up into recovery by holding the power on and volume down at the same time until small text appears in the top left corner.
4. Watch it and a second later more choices show up.
5. When they do hit volume down and then up to confirm the wipe data.
6. The tablet will restart and you have to set it up from the start "BUT SKIP THE SIGNING INTO GOOGLE" THAT SCREWES UP YOUR LOCATION... You can set it up when you go to the Market and it wont overide your manual location
7. Tap the weather widget to set it up "Do Location Last" Set update schedule and Fahrenheit then do the manual location.
8. Refresh away!
It may take you a few times to get it right, took me a while!
Also someone mentioned to not use the one click kill app use the individual single shot method in there..
Then restore your apps.
Hope this helps you. If it does give a thanks
If your GPS is off it could be going off of your ISPs buildings are not where your router is. My ISP is located about 3 towns over and i never go there and that's the town it show unless I have GPS on.

GPS\Antenna issue

Off the bat with my phone, i have been having bad GPS connectivity issues. I would launch google navigation and get an instant lock. After a while, it would loose connection and say "searching for gps". It would never connect until i exited navigation, and turned off the gps and turned it back on. Then relaunched google nav and instant lock again. Then I also started noticing that on my htc sense clock widget, where it would show you the weather and the town in which you are in, it would only say "Current Location" no matter what I do. I went as far as resetting the phone back to factory settings which corrected the location issue at first but then it reverted back "Current Location". Any thoughts on this? If i cant figure this out, I will probably end up taking the phone back.

Location Service not working

Hi Everyone,
I can't see to get any of the location services to work.
All three services are on but none of the apps that uses location seems to get a hold of the location.
For example, in google maps it says "Your current location is temporarily unavailable".
None of my android phones has had this problem.
Thanks.
Download an app called gps status and toolbox. Let that app run. You can use it to reset a-gps info, then download sat info (in the manage a-gps menu).
Let the app run until it gets a good lock. You may need to tap the screen to keep it from timing out while it is getting a lock.

Also I would hate to factory reset.
Any other suggestions?
I am having the same problem

So using the GPS status and tools app, I can get a lock when I am outside.
However, when I am indoor else where I am not locatable, which seems to indicate that GPS does work but Google location service and/or VZW one don't work.
I am going to give it a factory reset.
Mine didn't work at first either. I turned all 3 services off rebooted then turned all 3 back on and rebooted again. Its been working fine since then.

This worked wonderfully.
Thanks.
I've seen the same issue on and off, just to add further to str8upx's answer, a reboot is all it took to fix for me (wasn't necessary to turn services off first).
Just wanted to update, while a reboot does "fix" the issue, it's not a solution. The issue does come back.
Turn off Verizon services and leave on google services, reboot the phone and try it.
I've banged on this all morning. So far, this has worked for me.
Settings > Location > enable all 3.
then
Settings > Apps and Sync > Google > Location > make sure both are checked.
then
Settings > Apps and Sync > Google > Maps & Latitude > Location Reporting > Detect your location. (I am not a Latitude user and have all the other location sharing stuff turned off.)
Finally
Open Browser > Menu > Settings > Privacy & security > Enable location > check Enable Location
AND THEN REBOOT.
So far so good. Maps hasn't been unable to locate me again and the browser can get my location.
I had the same issue when I first got my Droid DNA. Location services would not work for me whatsoever (weather, maps, etc.) As soon as I got home and connected to WiFi, location services started working. My wife, who got her Droid DNA at the exact same time as I did, never had this problem.
Once I connected to WiFi and location services started working, I haven't had any problems.
Not sure what the logic behind it is, but try connecting to WiFi if you haven't already.
