Hi Samsung Galaxy SII (and Hercules) experts,
I have been using an iphone 3GS on custom firmware 4.2.1 that is hacktivated so I can have this phone unlocked to use with t-mobile. My problem is that I only get 2G edge network speed.
I want to stick with T-mobile because I'm getting a really good deal on unlimited anytime minutes, texts, web/data usage. If the only way I can get 3G or 4G speeds on my iphone 3GS with t-mobile is using wi-fi, then I'm seriously considering getting an Android Samsung Hercules when it comes out. If I'm going to consider the Hercules, then I have to also consider the iphone 4 or 5.
Which is a better phone with respect to processing speed and with respect to the operating system. I'm not planning on doing any gaming but I do value fast processing speed with respect to loading of book marked webpages on my desktop (e.g., google map of the best restaurants in Los Angeles) and loading of browser web-pages in general (especially when other processes are going on as well). Is it supposed to be a better phone than the iphone 4 and 5? What is the conclusion of official benchmark tests on the comparison of processing speed of the Hercules and iphone 4 (what will the conclusion likely be of Hercules VS iphone 5) and of Android 2.4 VS ios 4 and 5? I ask about processing speed because previous processing speed tests have shown that even though 2 processors may boast the same speed, one ends up actually being significantly faster.
Insight into this will go a long way for me, because 2G Edge speed is a real liability for me, and I would like to upgrade to the best smartphone availabe as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance for your help.
you can't compare anything to the iphone 5, because nothing is known about it yet.
Really depends on what you want. If you want everything done for you get an iPhone. If you want to customise or have a PC-esque internet browsing experience get a Samsung Galaxy S II.
The S2 in my opinion is in the running for gadget of the year (and worst battery life as well) and the iPhone will have to have 8G and its own neuclear reactor if is stands a chance against the S2.
But first wait for the iPhone 5 to be released and see what you want.

Galaxy SGS 7 much better than IPhone 5 .

Pointless thread is pointless
Why did you create a SGS2 VS. iPhone 5 thread on a SGS2 forum?
I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm using the Galaxy SII forum to compare the S2 with another phone! I want to know why to get one phone over the other!
I don't like this comparison threads at all, besides the GS II is the BEST device released and available in the market atm, if some phone comes closer to it, it will be hTC Sensation.
Chapter closed.
comparison of S2 to other phones
If you don't like comparison threads why do you make comparisons in your post? And if you make them, please explain why you prefer one over the other.
Thanks

Comparisons are great when you can perform tasks on two phones and see which one performs better.
Are you really this thick? Can you not see why it would be difficult to make comparisons with a phone that doesn't exist yet?
comparison between S2 and iphone 4 or 5
Are you that dumb?
Yes, comparisons are best when you can compare performance side by side. However, when one or both phones have not come out yet, it is still possible for knowledgeable people to predict performance based on the expected specs and familiarity with previous models.
I was hoping to get insight from someone knowledgeable.
Still missing on iPhone 5:
No Flash support in the web browser
No quick toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G
No Facebook integration
No proper widgets for the lockscreen
App folders still are limited to 12 apps tops
No DivX/XviD video support out of the box (though there're lots of players in the App Store)
No USB Mass storage mode for uploading content to the device
No haptics for the touchscreen
No Bluetooth file transfers to other phones
Contacts lack a swipe-to-delete or mass delete feature
If you want only the cult phone go with iPhone
If you want the best android phone go with GS2

BuzzFuzz,
Thank you
im pretty sure iphone 5 will be using the A5, which im sure Exynos will tear appart processing wise
At that time, I think SS Galaxy S2 is the best, , although at some point it doesn't have advantage compare to others. But in overall, it's simply the best. Who knowthe real Iphone 5?
probably by the time there is ip5 we will have sgs3 with its mind reading, bread toasting, coffee making UI!
What a ridiculous thread, only created to stir the pot!
I'm buying a new phone and I want an android one. But there are many android phones and so can't decide which one I should buy. Which one may be the best android phone?
Please give me some advices.
These are the phones I think they are great..
SG3 ( should I wait till this out? and will it the best one? )
SG2 ( now this device probably isn't the best one anymore, right? )
HTC sesation XE
HTC sensation
HTC Evo 3D
Sorry for if I did anything wrong and please point out what I am doing wrong since this is my very first post in this forum.
And sorry for my English.
Android Devices
I believe there are several things to consider when choosing an Android device to buy.
First, what do you plan on doing with it? [beyond just using it as a phone ]
ROM development, app/game development, gaming, scuba diving, etc.
Second, what's your budget? This is definitely the most important factor, since international GSM versions of the phones you listed are rather pricey [approx 500 - 700 USD]
Lastly, network compatibility. [supported bands]
You probably want to make sure you get a phone that supports your carrier... although this isn't absolutely necessary
If you are using it for development of ROMs, any upcoming device is recommended, since they can always use more devs, though you should be wary of locked bootloaders [such as those found in Motorola devices]
Devices suggested: GS3, HTC One S/X, Galaxy Nexus.
If you're using it for app/game development, any Nexus device would be your best bet, as they set the standards for Android
Devices suggested: Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus.
If you just want to play games, then grab the latest and greatest!
Devices suggested: GS2, GS3, HTC One S/X, ASUS Padfone [whenever it comes out ]
I personally have a Galaxy Nexus [GSM], and vouch for it's delicious Ice Cream Sandwich
If this helped at all, I'd appreciate it if you clicked "thanks"
Sorry, I couldn't find the thanks button but will do it when I see the thanks button. But thanks anyway. It helped.
But is galaxy nexus's battery life good?
Hi everyone!
I am sorry if I am not supposed to post this question somewhere else
Well,as the title says,I need your opinion for a purchase I want to do on a Android smartphone.
To be honest I am confused!
Okay to be more specific, the phones I really liked most are the following :
1)Samsung Galaxy S III
2)LG OPTIMUS 4X HD P880
3)HTC ONE X
And there is one rumored :
4)LG LS970 Eclipse 4G LTE(not compatible with my country's carriers, but I believe that this phone will be released to other countries too)
Now you might be wondering why am I looking for rumored phones, well consider this as a stupid thing that I always do with things I want to buy.
According to the budget,I will say that I can give 500-700$
I want the phone mostly, for emails, organizer, calendar, browsing on the internet, movies and most important for development.
So which one you recommend?I have heard tons of things for each phone. Please justify your answer. It would be really helpful!
P.S.: I have posted accidentally almost the same thing in a wrong sub-forum!Sorry for that mods!!!
Okay I got +1000000 ( ) for HTC ONE X from orb3000.What you guys think?
Based on your needs
I think it does matter more why you wanna use that device?
So, it should meet your interests and your needs.
SG2 vs SG3= For me there are no difference in terms of my needs as well applications. But for you maybe you got fond of the new features
Budget does matter
Are you referring to my question hweidi or to the initial one?Because if you do refer to my question I mention all the things that you ask on the #4 post on this page.
take something from the new HTC
I see that people start hating a bit Samsung. Why is that?Is it because of the design and the plastic they use to make the phones?
Xperia S?
i use Nexus S

I would want to know about your opinions too.. Actually I am a Symbian (N8) user and was planning to go for Nokia 808.., but then I felt SGS III hardware is the best at the moment.. I know mostly everything about Symbian and if I will ditch it and go for SGSIII, that will be my first Android phone and considering my zero knowledge in Android .. I am a little bit wondering whether I should make that leap since I love modding stuff and since it will be my first Android device, it will take much longer to learn about it to get ready and start exploring stuff in Android..
So do you guys think I should move to SGS-III?
Also I tried to find some very very basic FAQs threads about Android but couldn't so if anyone could lead me to a right direction, I will be glad and thankful.
Thanks.
As for the nokia I would say that it was my favorite company,I am a proud owner of a Nokia N900.Unfortunately due to its financial problems Nokia is sinking like a boat.It doesn't have money for research and development of innovative technologies.Add to that, the fact that Microsoft bought it and now most of the new Nokia devices, except for a few others like the 808,run Windows Phone, which in my personal opinion still needs way to much development to reach Android/iOS(although I am a hater of the iPhone and not a Microsoft hater). Also,Google is the new superpower/master of the game and almost everyday comes with something new.Think also that Samsung,LG,HTC,Motorola,NVidia(and eventually Intel) they possess money for hardware development(CPUs,GPUs,GPS chips,NFC chips, batteries, camera sensors, pcb reference designs,screens,etc....).So basically, you should move to android.Mind that companies/descent software developers make software for people who probably don't know that much from technology and that is why they try to make it as easy and comfortable and flawless in use.As for you you won't have problem to learn the use of an Android phone and as for the fact that you want to do mods/hacks to an Android phone if you are a Unix/Linux user you won't have a problem as the philosophy is the almost same(not precisely but almost). But even if you are not a Unix/Linux user then again you won't face any problems!
It's all about on how much research you do on something.
That's my personal opinion on your question.
As for my question to help other members to answer my question what concerns me most is if it is better to have qualcomm(quad core)/exynos/tegra 3 and adreno/mali/nvidia ulp combination?

I wouldn't recommend the Sensation series and Evo 3D. If you are on a budget then you can consider the Galaxy S2 or if you have money to burn, you may want to go for the HTC One Series devices (One S, One X. Not One V).

Note: Microsoft did not buy Nokia. They only went into partnership.
As for the answer to your question, if you do not browse the web and/or play games frequently on your phone (means you are not a heavy user), any of those are fine. If you are a heavy gamer, I would recommend the Tegra 3 + ULP Geforce GPU. For battery life, the Snapdragon S4 performs better than the Tegra. For normal day to day usage (web browsing etc), I would recommend Exynos.

So I just got my SGS2 a couple days ago after narrowing down my decision to whether i should wait out on the dual-core S3 with 2GB of RAM, or get my S2 like i always planned
Now my thoughts are coming back about getting the S3, although like i mentioned, the US version has a dual core unlike the international version. but with an extra GB of RAM, however a huge deal breaker is the massive 4.8inch screen. After holding the Galaxy Nexus with the 4.65 inch screen thats a bit huge in my opinion and i cant imagine another .15inch even though thats a very small difference.
I love my S2 but i feel like im outdated again! But a year this time. Its lag free and is a solid performer and plus i got it for one hell of a deal, but i heard great things about the S3 like the battery life and performance which in favor excels much more than the S2 in those terms.
I'm considering returning my S2 and getting S3 towards the end of this month
idk if i should do it or not? Whats your opinion?
Your first mistake was posting a Question thread in the General forum instead of the Q&A forum...
Secondly... nobody can make this decision for you but you.
Thirdly, thread closed.
Hi everyone! I will be buying a new phone in a couple of days and was considering the Xperia S as an option. I've been reading this forum as well as some reviews and comments in other forums and blogs, and I've come across very conflicting opinions, so I would like to know if you, as owners, would recommend it.
Before you ask, this is the only Xperia phone available in my country right now, and the other two options I'm considering are the Galaxy Nexus and the S2. As you can see, I'm not looking for the latest most powerfull smartphone but rather a reliable device with a healthy development community (also, there aren't many other powerful smartphones available here but that's a whole different issue).
I currently own a Motorola Defy, which is a very reliable phone, and has a great development community (everything working in CM10!). This has been particularly important for me as the people that own the Defy are very enthusiastic about it, and there's a still a lot going on even almost two years after it's release. I think the Xperia S might be a great choice because of the decent hardware hardware, form and size (galaxy S3 feels too big in my hand), but specially because of its unlockable bootloader and the possibilities that it represents (I'm not really expecting to keep the stock firmware for long).
So, do you think the Xperia S might be a good choice, or would you say I should look into my other options?
Simple lags, not very smooth ui is only problem. Also google is now testing aosp support for xperia s so it could have a very good future. If VERY good hardware is not your choice, then you won't regret buying xps. Although it does simple daily usage very good and you may not notice lags until you are expecting a perfect mobile.

Simple, if you don't care about internal memory and want the latest android OS faster and can't wait for it, go for nexus series.
If you want a whooping display and a good camera with good looks, go for XPS.. XPS is relatively new so not a very broad support but its more than enough has a good android future. You won't regret buying any of these..:good:
As far as the lag is concerned, its not there in my device, few users complain about it but i never experienced it, except for the stock contact app, which i don't use
if u considering between nexus and s2, just pick xperia S. nth will go wrong, except for yellow tinted screen.

No yellow tint issue on new batch
Toss a coin , and leave s2 out of it , xperia S has 720p res on its 4.3 , s2 has 800x460 , the xperia S's screen is way way more detailed , and 720p displays are whats new these days :good:
I have an xperia S and it hasnt disapointed me yet
My brothers have the Samsung S2, and I can tell you that the Xperia S is MUCH better!
The Xperia S is an EXCELLENT phone, the only con is that I'm just disappointed with it's camera. I came from a Galaxy Note.
Hi all,
Just curious and wanted to see if the general consensus is that starting with the Galaxy S through to the S3 ( you may include lesser variants but I'm talking strictly I II and III ) is this the most popular and well developed mobile series in terms of modifications and roms ? much more so than say Sony, HTC etc ?
Having owned all three and having gone from DarkyRom on the Galaxy S, the to using PA on the S2 to now using ( and loving Null ) on the S3
the dev scene around the Galaxy series always seems to have been healthy but with the S2 and S3 more so seems massive and so well catered to.
Am I right or am I blinkered in having stuck the the Galaxy line over the years ?
I believe the galaxy series have very active mods
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
They are very popular phones, namely for their powerful hardware and the fact that they are ahead of the curve.
This alone would attract a heavy amount of devs.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I understand that but the HTC one series has some nice hardware and features yet they don't seem to be embraced among the community now the way they used to be, I suppose it's almost a chicken and egg scenario.
Does the Samsung series attract the most dev's and therefore sell's the most or vice versa do dev's hit the hottest selling mobiles as they know it's a way to ensure their work hit's an appreciative audience ?
Essentially Devs do what they want to do .
Point of note that development may consist of nothing more than themed and cut and paste mods with nothing actually developed for many roms .

Actually your half right, the one x is a stellar phone which IMHO is a much better looking phone than the s3, however it has something really crap about it, well two things really, locked in battery and non upgradeable memory.
Two things which made me steer clear of HTC this year, take a peek at my sig and you'll see my history is full of HTC phones.
Also the connectivity of the HTC devices is utter rubbish compared to the S3, can't even link up via Bluetooth. Afaik anyway. ( unless the kernel supports it, I think u had to install an aosp ROM, or cm type ROM)
It was enough to sway me away from it and quite a few devs too, but there are still a fair few developing for it.
