Supposedly according to some articles there were a batch of tablets that went out with wifi issues, since then it was fixed.
I need a tablet fast and was thinking about buying a prime off ebay, is there anyway of knowing if the tablets on ebay are part of that first batch or not? Would they have different product numbers or serial numbers?
As far as I know, those sold in Taiwan were recalled over the issues. You can check the serial number here.

Someone here bought one of the Prime's given away at the Verge conference in NYC. It had the same Wi-Fi issue as the Taiwanese units that were recalled. The units being pushed out to resellers are fine (according to Asus). So you should definately get the history of any Prime you buy off CL or eBay.

Expansys is where I got my pre-order. I've never heard of them. I've heard of B&H, J&R, Best Buy, Newegg, and Gamestop having access to preorders, but who are these guys? They seemed legit so I gave them my preorder info. Any thoughts?
I don't think I've ever ordered with them, though if by "legit" you mean if they're real OR a scam in terms of a business, they seem to be an established business.

If by "legit" you mean they can deliver your Prime by Christmas or this month, that's something you'll find out on the receipt OR your order info, or by calling them. Hopefully someone else here can shed more light for you. (was there a reason you chose them and not the other companies you knew about already? like a special or something?)
Expansys is big for imported phones so they're definately legit. Their inventory systems are archaic and all communication is done manually. They keep bankers hours so they're hard to get in touch with. I'd say they're a poor choice for the Prime because they don't do a lot of business with Asus and communicating with them for a product that's touch-and-go will have you ripping your hair out. If companies that have sold a lot of Asus product in the past are having trouble with inventory I can't see how Expansys would fare any better.
Well, I chose them because they were the only company that still had pre-orders available.
I've heard of all the delays. I don't expect to be seeing my Prime before 2012 . Reeeeeally wish I hadn't sold my laptop/eReader preemptively....
With all the hype around this device, I just wondered if anyone had experience buying electronics from this company because I'd never heard of them before. Not only was I wondering about them as a business, I was wondering about how far down the totem pole they may be.
Thanks for the replies.

Ahh BarryH, thank you!
they are definitely a legit company, everything is based in the UK though but they are the place to go for imported phones, my friend ordered his S II from their because when it first came out that was like the only place but yes they will not steal your money or anything
My concern is that they dont metion the model number, and they dont show a picture of it and being that there the same name the first and second generation I think there selling the first ones.

That doesn't make sense because the new one is Transformer PRIME. (which is clearly on the order page and title) The new one also comes in two colors while the original only had one.
The order page also describes the Transformer Prime.
I have two Primes, I want to return one to Best Buy and save me shipping hassle. Does anyone know if they track the serial numbers when they sell it to you? I don't see anything on my receipt and it was an online purchase as well.
I worked at Best Buy for quite awhile and I can tell you that they typically do not track serial numbers unless it is a gaming system (xbox, PS3, etc.), cell phone, or some apple products. I returned one to Best Buy, and I don't recall her scanning the S/N. I purchased mine online as well.
Also, the worst that could happen is that they tell you they can't accept it because it's the wrong S/N and you say that you have two and got them mixed up.
Good luck

Thanks so much.
i know gamestop checks them, because they checked mine like 3 times when i took it in to get replaced with another one.
but with best buy it seems to ususally come down to the employee at the CS counter who is processing your return, i returned an xbox there once and didn't even give them the hard drive (by accident initially) and they didn't notice or seem to care.
the best way to know is to see if the serial is on the reciept, if they track it, it should have printed it on your reciept.
I am one of the ones who is having the issue with WiFi/BT. I am in Australia. Based on Gary's note in the thread, I rang the local Asus customer support line.
The agent I spoke to was not aware that Asus is repairing/replacing Prime units. He said there was no repair or replacement program in place. He said he could give me a RMA number but I can only go back to the shop where I bought it and get a new unit except it also would be from the same C1 serial number batch that is being sold in Australia and so I would not necessarily be any better than just keeping my current unit.
He was also not aware that Gary or anyone from Asus are engaging the Prime user community via XDA.
What do I do now?

I would post this in the WiFi/BT thread .
You should have paid more attention, he specifically said that program was for North American customers only. Non NA customers will have to wait a bit longer.

Really? Have you even read his post? There is nothing about Non NA customers having to wait. Simply says contact your local service centre.

Prime out of stock in Canada "for good" ? Updt: Now available in some stores
Not meaning to spread rumors or anything but felt like I'd share what I was told this morning by various big store employees.
My Prime is defective in many ways (including dead HDMI and wonky WIfi) so I had the choice to either get a replacement unit or get a refund. Since Asus said they were out of stock themselves back a few weeks ago I decided to simply ask a refund and purchase another PRime locally... that should have been simple enough.
Unfortunately, none of the large stores (Bestbuy, Futureshop and Staples) have Primes in stock, either online or instore. All out. Futureshop and Staples both confirmed they never had a single unit instore besides returned defective units. Best Buy didn't know if they ever did have a few but confirmed that he had no ETA on future allocation.
In other words, 3 months post launch, the 3 major canadian retailers don't have Primes and don't have any ETA. Moreover, the staff I talked to at Futureshop indicated that he doubted they'd ever get any more stock because of the numerous returns they had. In fact someone returned one at that very location for the same reason I am exchanging/refunding mine (dead HDMI and.. defective Wifi!).
Obviously the staff in those store often misinform people due to lack of knowledge but I did find it surprising that all 3 were on the same page.
Have you guys experienced anything similar? I'm now asking for a replacement unit since ASus does seem to have some instock.. after all, I don't want another tablet, I want a working Prime..
I had a heck of a time finding one in Winnipeg. Luckily the Best Buy here got like 5 in stock that morning. It has been fine (haven't tried the HDMI port yet) and so I haven't had any issues with it. Looking now none of the Future Shops here have any and you can't even check at Best Buy anymore. The Staples that I have been to looking for accessories have never had any actual Primes in stock ever. Looks like they may have given up on it. =(
The OP has a good point. I looked at Canada Computers, TigerDirect, BreastBuy, Future Shop, NCIX and Staples. It appears there are very limited quantities in Canada and especially southern Ontario. We're talking about 24 or less. Some places had nothing at all and others had less than 10. I agree, what's up with that? There is no proof that they're gone "for good" other than speculation though.
Ncix has the 64gb $599 version in stock. Also checking staples online store says available for next business day delivery

It sucks for people that don't have one. I didn't have much of a problem finding the tablet but dock was a real pain.
I'm lucky I guess. I have a perfect Prime, can't find one flaw and a nice English-only dock.
Are you talking about canada or Canada? Ncix has in stock, futureshop says in stock in store and 64gb online. I personally got 2 in store from futureshop in january. Memory express has 64gb in stock limited quantities. Are you from the future maybe? Or the past? Can i have your autograph?

Where is this BreastBuy, I would like to browse their selection?
Looking at the US right it's not much better. Can't find it anywhere, and none of my local Best Buy stores ever had any in stock.
Either Asus is getting ready to release a fixed version, or more likely, Prime will fade into history with 700.
Major win for Breastbuy
Besides that, I am talking about the CURRENT situation, not that you found one in January, December or June 2016, I mean right now.
As for Staples if you click on any link you will get an OOS notice altough it does still say "Shipping next day".. Staples is just that great yeah..
FS does say "Available in store but when I browse through the 60 closest stores (which is like 3 provinces around) none have any instock so yeah, that is equal to 0 for me. BB is the exact same.
NCIX doesn't have the 32gb in either color and does have extremely low stock of the 64gb.
It's not available at Tigerdirect either. So.. what's left in terms of larger retailers?
Think about any popular product launch and find one where the product wasn't readily available off the shelf 3 months post launch? Scarce allocation is either because there is too much demand or simply not enough offered. I doubt the demand is that insanely high at this point considering it's very much a "geek" device and not a mass hysteria popular product a la fruit company and most geek happly got theirs (I did).
So all I was saying is that I was told by 3 major outlets that they didn't expect any stock for a rather popular product that has been out for 3 months... I think it's odd that's all.
I just got my Prime today, was really hard to find.
It's sold out on all Media Markts in Germany, Conrad didnt have any (they sold the lasts ones yesterday, I saw them)
And today I found mine on Saturn, not many left there either, and they said they did not know when where they coming back to stock.
You had me at breastbuy....

Give your head a shake. I don't care what you think I was simply stating I bought 2 in store, yes in store as in i walked into a store, a brick and morter store with walls and such on 2 separate occasions and bought a prime with real money from a real cash register with a real person and then walked out of real doors. TWICE! So don't be spreading false information.
Play nice kids….
Ya im in the same boat. Been looking locally and everyones out of stock…kinda weird.
I had no luck finding any Primes in stores.
Last month I had my hands on at least 4 Primes and they all were defective, either in the camera lens or the screen - 2 from Future Shop and 2 from Staples.
I really need to get a Prime.. my keyboard dock is sitting in its box
*hopefully Asus is going to start distributing fixed Primes

Futureshop
Canada computers

I've been trying to get my hands on a 32gb model for two weeks and I'm getting similar results. I'm in BC. I noticed that future shop and best buy have 64gb models online for order. The only in store unit I have ever seen was a best buy display model.
I spoke with a future shop employee who said that they have never had any units in store since release and they don't expect any units anytime soon.
The keyboard dock is also quite hard to find sold out in most locations.
This is definitely odd. Can't say I can remember the last time you couldn't find a reasonably popular product in stores 3 months after launch.

Im not sure why they are lying I got both my primes at futureshop and they had them on at least 3 different times.
Right now I'm living in a little city in Germany so I'll have to order the Nexus 9, which means I won't be able to examine it beforehand for the lightbleed, by far my biggest concern about the tablet (second biggest being the lack of a sd card slot).
I assume I have better chances if I buy a device that's a newer revision, someone stop me there if I'm wrong. So I'm looking around the official retailers but I've seen nothing indicating anything related to which revision it is and if the light bleed problem was addressed. Amazon has the 32gb model for 350 €, but judging by the most recent reviews it seems they are selling old revisions from last years. Google store has the 16gb model for a whooping 380€, but I do not know when were theirs made (maybe these are more recent since it's from google store itself?).
Anyway, I'd appreciate if someone could point me a trustworthy retailer that sells the newest revisions and is willing to accept returns in case of excessive light bleed. Also, I'd appreciate if soneone could enlighten me if looking for newer revisions is actually worth it or if I should just gamble with amazon, or even dissuade me from buying it, if you think that's best.
Thanks!
I went to Media Markt Bonn last week and checked the serial numbers of the boxes from the shelf. I picked one with HTBD... 32gb Wi-Fi for 299€. From mid-November the 2nd Revision was delivered.
Light bleeding is minimal and does not bother me in normal use. Keys are not perfect, but the backside is firm. The first price of asked 499€ last year was a way to much for the known problems. But for this price it is a good deal and I can live with the minimal issues. If you don't like it, the MM has a 30 days return policy.
I would buy the device in a real shop, where you can check the serial numbers. The most Internet shops with special prices try to sell the old stuff nobody wants to have or others had sent back for replacement.
